Make Up For Ever Reminded Fans of Its Shade Range, Rihanna Noticed


Over the past month, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty has been swimming in accolades for its inclusive, 40-shade foundation range—something that ought to be given if you’re selling foundation, but as sales of her darker shades prove, is still a novelty. One of the other makeup brands that gets it is Make Up For Ever. It’s offered that same range, 40 shades with options on either end of the spectrum, since 2015—which it not so subtly reminded fans in an Instagram post on Tuesday, captioned “40 shades is nothing new to us -?-.” You see where this is going, right?

Fenty Beauty fans and members of Rihanna’s Navy took none too kindly to the perceived shade over shades. And then this happened: Rihanna, herself, slid into the comments, leaving not one but two messages for the brand: “Lol still ashy” and “Shook.”

The first addresses an issue black women from Naomi Campbell to Duckie Thot have brought up time and time again: the ashy cast that certain deep foundation shades leave on the skin of women of color. Her second, well, what do you expect when you come for Rihanna?

While neither brand has made an official statement, Twitter has come to a rather different conclusion.

Personally speaking, Make Up For Ever was the first brand that made a foundation that truly matched my skin. Its also been one of the leaders in the industry that prioritize women who fall outside the realm of beige—as its campaign starring Khoudia Diop earlier this year proved.

In a post-Fenty world, it’s clear if brands want to keep up, quantity and quality should be the norm. Just maybe don’t bring Rih into it. She’ll notice.

Rihanna Closed Her Fashion Week Show on the Back of a Motorbike, Because She's Rihanna


When has Rihanna ever played by the rules? She always finds a way to go above and beyond—but never too far—when it comes to her work, always delighting and surprising her adoring fans. Most recently, it was with the launch her long-awaited makeup line. Then, at the Spring 2018 show for her Fenty x Puma collection during New York Fashion Week (scheduled for the same week as the Fenty Beauty launch, by the way), Rihanna once again pulled out all the stops by hosting one of the most heart-pounding spectacles we’ve seen this season. No, really—she brought motocross to Fashion Week.

Instead of taking the traditional bow on the runway at the end of her show (as designers tend to do), Rihanna opted for a drive-by, cruising into the Park Avenue Armory in New York on the back of the motorbike, clad in new Spring 2018 Fenty, waving to the audience gathered in the bleachers. Take a look:

That wasn’t even the most unexpected part of the event: Rihanna’s Fenty show opened with motorbikes flying over the pink sand-filled runway. Then, model Slick Woods rode past the front row on the back of bike. Casual.

Then, after all of the models (which included Adriana Lima, Kaia Gerber, Joan Smalls, Stella Maxwell, Adwoa Aboah, among others) walked the runway, the motorbikes came back out with their aerial tricks for the finale.

At any other Fashion Week event, we may have had to pick up our jaws from the floor after watching this display—but this isn’t just any NYFW show. This is Fenty.

So, roll into this workweek with the gusto of a Bad Gal at the end of her latest collection debut. It’s what Rih would want.

Rihanna Wants to Time-Travel Back to the Day She Lost Her Virginity


Rihanna is killing the game right now. The pop star just launched her first makeup line, Fenty Beauty, her song with DJ Khaled, “Wild Thoughts,” is rocking the Billboard charts, and she’s still hanging out with that Saudi billionaire she was first spotted kissing over the summer. (RiRi tried to hide him under an umbrella-ella last month, but the Internet wasn’t fooled!) All of Rihanna’s body-shamers need to sit down, because she’s on top of the world.

But even though Rihanna is ubiquitous, there’s still a lot we don’t know about her—as this new interview with Elle proves. The singer covers several topics during her recent chat with the magazine—including why lipstick is her “secret weapon”—but the most interesting tidbit involves time travel.

One of Rihanna’s friends, magician David Copperfield, asked her where she’d go if she was magically zapped anywhere in the world, and her answer was pretty surprising.

“Ten minutes before I lost my virginity,” Rihanna told Copperfield, who said that he actually can make her disappear and reappear any place on Earth. (Not sure if he was kidding or not.)

Interesting, right? There was no follow-up to this question. Rihanna didn’t explain why she’d transport back to the day she lost her virginity or when exactly this was. It’s a curious thought, though. Losing your virginity is typically a very awkward and vulnerable experience. I certainly wouldn’t want to repeat that day—it seems like Rihanna might want to prevent it from happening altogether.

Leave it to Rihanna to give the most mysterious and intriguing answer to this question. Most people would’ve just said the Bahamas. OK, I would’ve said the Bahamas.

Rihanna Just Posted a Huge Teaser for Her Makeup Line Fenty Beauty


Rihanna fans, this is what you came for. After over a year of speculation, broken only by a launch date announcement, we’ve finally got more clues about Rihanna’s insanely anticipated Fenty Beauty line.

The singer/designer/woman after all our hearts has kept nearly every detail about Fenty Beauty under wraps since news first broke of the line back in April 2016, making fans—including all of us here—a little bit rabid. (If you’ve been keeping track, you’ll know that eagle-eyed followers have been stalking her personal Instagram for tags to the Fenty Beauty one, speculating every step of the way about what the line might entail.)

So what glorious products, sealed with Rihanna’s approval, await us? We’ll likely have to wait until next Friday, September 8 when the line officially launches for the full lineup. (Although rumor has it that she might make a big reveal sooner during New York Fashion Week, which kicks off Thursday.) Luckily, praise be to Rihanna, she surprise dropped three new campaign teasers today, and they’re every bit as awesome as you’d expect.

The first, posted on the Fenty Beauty account, features a handful of some of the fashion world’s top models of the moment—and brazen champions of diversity. Duckie Thot, Slick Woods, and Halima Aden all make cameos in the intro, followed by a just as impressive roster of women of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes, including Camila Costa, Paloma Elsesser, and Leomie Anderson.

There’s no question, as Anderson put it on her Instagram, “this the beauty brand for girls who know who the f-ck they are and aren’t afraid to show it.”

We also got our first product confirmation: lip gloss. So plan for a huge resurgence. Beside that, we have some other clues by way of the #ShadeNames hashtag. In the Instagrams above, Woods and Costa recite the following phrases—which we can only assume are the names of bronzers, blushes, or illuminzers, no?—”Chili Mango,” ‘Trophy Wife,” “Yacht Life,” and “Confetti.”

Regardless of what Fenty Beauty makeup drops next Friday, we are dying to try every last drop of every last product we can get our hands on. Twitter, it’s clear, couldn’t agree more.

Rihanna Hides Her Rumored Boyfriend—Where Else?—Under Her Umbrella

Singer, actress, and angel on this earth Rihanna has been pretty low-key about the new man in her life, rumored to be 29-year-old Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel. The two were spotted making out in a pool in Spain earlier this summer, but not much is known about Hassan. According to The Independent, he dated Naomi Campbell in 2016. Neither Rihanna nor Hassan—whose family is Saudia Arabia’s main Toyota distributor—has commented on or posted publicly about the relationship. Rihanna prefers to instead bestow upon us pictures of her looking like this at Crop Over and, to be clear, we are not complaining.

But now the pair’s been spotted again…just barely. TMZ reports that Rihanna attended a birthday dinner (Wednesday night at Chiltern Firehouse—a swanky restaurant and hotel in London—where she was photographed leaving the dinner, followed closely by a man identified as Hassan. It does seem from body language that she’s trying awfully hard to cover her companion, standing directly between him and the photographers and covering both of them with her umbrella (insert “Umbrella” joke here).

Look closely just below Rihanna’s auburn hair: That’s Hassan’s nose.
