Grey's Anatomy's Showrunner and Ellen Pompeo React to The Shortened Season Due to Coronavirus

Grey’s Anatomy season 16 is coming to an end sooner than expected. On March 27, ABC announced that the medical drama will not resume production on the final four episodes of Season 16, meaning the season will end Thursday, April 9, with episode 21 serving as the finale.

After learning that the current season of Grey’s Anatomy will officially be cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, Ellen Pompeo and showrunner Krista Vernoff took to Twitter to reassure upset fans the impromptu finale will still be a “satisfying” one.

Though some fans are disappointed, the good news is the new finale episode, titled “Put on a Happy Face,” will be jam-packed with drama and a new potential love story. According to the description, “Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question, Owen makes a shocking discovery,” and “Link tries to convince Amelia to take it easy during the final stage of her pregnancy.”

Plus, Vernoff promised fans that any lingering question will be answered next season in a new Twitter statement. (The series had already been renewed for Season 17.) “We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season,” she tweeted on March 27. “The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year. #GreysAnatomy #StayHome”

Ellen Pompeo, who has played Dr. Meredith Grey for the past 15 years, also reacted to the show’s shortened season via Twitter.

“When you hear the full season of #GreysAnatomy is not going to air,” she tweeted with a throwback pic of Meredith.

Although clearly not ecstatic about the news, the actor is looking on the bright side. For one, Killing Eve, starring her former co-star Sandra Oh, is returning earlier than planned!

Pompeo even teased a fan after they asked if this means the season finale will not be “full of people dying.”

“That’s what that means,” she quipped.

Grey’s Anatomy is just one of many TV and movie productions that shut down in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. They’re also among a number of medical dramas that donated supplies to hospitals amid the pandemic.

“At Grey’s Anatomy, we have a back-stock of gowns and gloves which we are donating as well,” Vernoff said in a statement to Good Morning America on March 19. “We are all overwhelmed with gratitude for our healthcare workers during this incredibly difficult time, and in addition to these donations, we are doing our part to help them by staying home.”

Watch Billie Eilish React to Fan Covers of Her Biggest Songs

Billie Eilish became an instant music powerhouse in November 2016 when her debut single “Ocean Eyes” went viral. The 16-year-old singer-songwriter has since amassed millions of streams, which is incredible—especially because she’s only released nine songs so far. Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim even raved about Eilish when we interviewed her a few months back.

“I love Post Malone. When he’s in his feels, he’s the best. ‘Stay’ is such a good song. And I love Billie Eilish,” she said. “I’m into more mellow music typically, but when I’m snowboarding I’ll listen to hard rap. Playboi Carti is everything.”

Kim isn’t alone in stanning Eilish. She now has a legion of loyal fans, and many of them cover her songs on YouTube Music. We had Eilish stop by our offices a few weeks back and watch a few of the renditions, and her reactions were everything.

Eilish’s fans have covered all her biggest hits, including “Lovely,” “Ocean Eyes,” “Bellyache,” “When the Party’s Over,” idontwannabeyouanymore,” and “you should see me in a crown.” And all the interpretations are different. Eilish loved each of them, obviously. Check out her thoughts in the video, above.

“If there’s a song that, for you, is like you hear it and you’re like, ‘Ugh, this is my song,’ that’s your song then. I don’t want to say it’s my song,” she told us. “Yeah, I made it, I wrote it, I sang it, but it’s your song from here on out.”

Remembering Kate Spade: Celebrities, Fans, and Friends React to Designer's Death

Fashion designer Kate Spade passed away Tuesday at the age of 55. A New York City Police Department spokesman confirmed to Glamour.com that a housekeeper discovered Spade, who was “unconscious” and “unresponsive,” in her Park Avenue apartment at around 10:20 a.m. Multiple news outlets are reporting Spade left a note, though no details are available at this time.

Spade was a ubiquitous force in the fashion industry, both through her self-titled brand (which she and husband Andy Spade co-founded in 1993, and then sold in 2007) which had a global influence thanks to its bags, as well as through Frances Valentine (the accessories label she debuted in 2016). In 2017, Kate Spade the company sold to Coach for an estimated $2.4 billion.

Celebrities, fashion industry insiders, and friends of the Spade family have taken to social media to express their condolences and remember the designer’s legacy; many tributes mention mental health, as it’s reported that Spade died by suicide, and include phone numbers people can call if they need help. If you’re dealing with depression or suicidal thoughts, you can contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

Bill Cosby Found Guilty of Sexual Assault: Women React on Twitter

After a grueling few weeks of testimony from six different women, Bill Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault on Thursday (April 26).

This verdict is specifically in regard to Andrea Constand, whom Cosby assaulted in 2004. The court charged him with three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Constand—but this is a symbolic win for many women. Over the past few years, more than 60 women have accused Cosby of sexual assault. Many of them appeared on the cover of New York magazine in July 2015 and shared their frighteningly similar testimonies—a brave, universally-lauded act that was viewed as one of the accelerators of the #MeToo movement.

Cosby’s guilty verdict is the first court win for both the #MeToo and #TimesUp initiatives, which began at the end of 2017 and early 2018 to end sexual harassment and gender bias. The court decision is proof our culture is progressing and that women are finally being heard.

One of Cosby’s accusers, Lili Bernard, summed up this sentiment today in an interview outside the Pennsylvania courthouse where Cosby was convicted. “I feel like I’m dreaming, Can you pinch me? … I feel like my faith in humanity is restored,” she said.

And several women—both famous and not—feel exactly the same way. “Thank you society for waking up,” actress and activist Rose McGowan tweeted shortly after Cosby was found guilty.

“In a fitting end to Sexual Assault Awareness month, Bill Cosby was found guilty today. Thinking of all the women he traumatized over the past 50 years,” Top Chef host and sexual assault survivor Padma Lakshmi also wrote.

Writer and cultural critic Roxane Gay tweeted something many of Cosby’s accusers are no-doubt feeling: “Enjoy that prison cell, Bill.” At this point, though, it’s still unclear how much jail time—if any—Cosby will serve.

But that’s not stopping women from posting messages about what this means for sexual assault survivors. Here are some of the most powerful ones we found, both on Twitter and Instagram:

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd Split: Fans React on Social Media

It’s a sad, sad day in the world of celebrity relationships: People magazine confirmed this afternoon that Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have split after 10 months of dating. The news has, naturally, thrown the entire Internet for a loop. From their gushy red-carpet debut at the 2017 Met Gala to their cute Halloween date just a few weeks ago, The Weeknd and Gomez seemed truly obsessed with each other. They’ve flown thousands of miles at the drop of a hat just to spend time with each other, and their Instagram Stories, at one point, were filled with sweet notes raving about the other’s accomplishments. A breakup was the last thing we expected.

Just look how shocked and upset their fans are on Twitter:

OK, maybe “the last thing we expected” is a bit of an exaggeration. To be honest, people sensed potential trouble in paradise when Gomez was spotted hanging out with her ex Justin Bieber, last week—and again just yesterday. Of course, it’s totally possible Gomez and Bieber’s relationship is strictly platonic—in fact, it most likely is—but that hasn’t stopped social media from raising a giant eyebrow at their hang-out. After all, the two of them were tabloid fodder when they were together, so it’s only natural their reconciliation received attention. And the fact it happened just days before The Weeknd and Gomez’s breakup is…coincidental, to say the least. Many fans straight-up think Bieber is the reason for their split (which, truthfully, is baseless and not exactly fair).

The Bieber tweets are just the tip of the iceberg, though. Several people on Twitter are bringing Bella Hadid, The Weeknd’s ex, into the mix. They seem to think Hadid is doing a happy dance in light of this split, which is just dumb and reductive. We’re sure the end of “Abelena” is the last thing on Hadid’s mind; she’s too busy being a jet-setting top model to give it a second thought.

R.I.P. to the hottest couple in Hollywood. Does this mean a Weeknd-Gomez collaboration isn’t in our future? Pour one out for the bop that could’ve been.
