Alex Rodriguez Found a Photo of Jennifer Lopez He Had Autographed 20 Years Ago, and It's a National Treasure

Lovebirds Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are clearly obsessed with each other. (See: all their coordinated outfits, their adorable public affection at award shows.) How do we find a love like theirs in our lifetimes, which are but a blink of the eye in the course of human history? The answer, apparently, is fate.

On Friday, A.Rod posted quite the throwback on his Instagram. It took us back twenty years ago, when an already-major pop star known as Jenny From the Block autographed a glam shot for a young, up-and-coming baseball player by the name of Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez. We can only assume that the shimmering wattage of Jenny’s skin illuminated served as an unassuming beacon of destiny. And (J.)Lo, a love was born.

“#TBT to almost 20 years ago when a big time global pop superstar signed a pic for a young ball player #lifecanbeafunnythingsometimes #pictureperfect #keepsake #jlo,” Rodriguez eloquently captioned his priceless photo. Check it out:

It wasn’t just A.Rod who was thrilled with this discovery, which definitely belongs in the Smithsonian (and not in storage.) Lopez left a comment on the Instagram photo, writing “Omg!! Who found that!!???” She reposted it to her own feed, once again expressing her surprise at what we should all agree is the newest national treasure:”Wow!! Had to repost!!! He found this cleaning out storage!!”

Blessed be destiny; blessed be the light of their love.

Taylor Swift Just Won't Let That National Snake Day Drama Die

Let me take you back exactly two years ago: Kanye West had just released a new song, “Famous,” in which he rapped about how he’s responsible for Taylor Swift’s fame. He specifically said, “I made that bitch famous,” a line Swift claimed she didn’t know about or approve of. Fast-forward to July 17, 2016: West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, uploaded a series of Snapchat videos that showed Swift having a conversation with West about “Famous.” Swift said she hadn’t approved of the phrase “that bitch,” which the Snapchat clips corroborate, but the damage was done. Twitter users took the videos as “proof” she lied about her knowledge of “Famous,” and they branded her a “snake.” It was all very petty and dumb and ridiculous.

So what did Swift do? She made snakes the focal point of her Reputation album era. Ever since she dropped “Look What You Made Me Do” in August 2017, Swift’s been all about the snakes: snake outfits, snake social media posts, snake images in her music videos—the works. She did this all in an attempt to reclaim her narrative, which she has. We get it! Snakes are cool now! The feud is over!

Well, not for Swift’s fans, at least. They took to social media yesterday—the two-year anniversary of #SnakeGate—demanding Kardashian “apologize” to Swift for what happened. The “Delicate” singer seemingly nodded to the anniversary herself too, wearing a snakeskin-patterned bag around New York City. Of course, that could’ve just been a coincidence.

But what she said during her concert last night definitely wasn’t. “Happy National Snake Day: my favorite day of the year,” Swift exclaimed Tuesday night while performing “LWYMMD” on her Cleveland Reputation Stadium Tour stop.

She also opened up about #SnakeGate in May when she kicked off her tour, saying, “A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on. And then a lot of people called me a lot of names on social media. And I went through some really low times for a while because of it.”

So now we have definitive proof that, yes, Swift is still very much thinking about this hoopla. That bag might’ve actually been intentional, after all. Drama, drama, drama!

Here’s the thing: National Snake Day is pretty much what created Swift’s Reputation album, which is an absolute bop parade, so I can’t be 100 percent mad at it. That being said, Swift and Kardashian should probably just let dead dogs snakes lie at this point. They both are too paid and too iconic to worry about something that happened on Snapchat years ago. Their million-dollar empires and kids and British boyfriends who low-key look like Ken dolls are far more interesting talking points, TBH. After two years it’s high time for them—and their fandoms—to just shake it off.

Oprah Winfrey Just Got A Year-Long Exhibition At The National Museum of African American History and Culture

Oprah Winfrey is a media titan, philanthropist, businesswoman, fashion icon, actress, and all-around American treasure — and a new museum exhibition is now giving her the credit she deserves.

On Friday, the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., unveiled “Watching Oprah: The Oprah Winfrey Show and American Culture,” an exhibition that celebrates Winfrey’s monumental contributions to society. The exhibit pays special attention to the cultural impact of her iconic daytime program “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, which became the highest-rated talk show in history during its 25-year run.

“What’s interesting is the same way America thought about Walter Cronkite — you could trust Walter Cronkite and his opinion — they trust Oprah,” museum director Lonnie G. Bunch III told the Washington Post. “An African American woman becomes the person America turns to.”

The exhibition features a series of interview segments, video clips, photographs and journals that chronicle Winfrey’s life and career. The first section focuses on the ways in which the cultural shifts of the 1950s and ’60s shaped and informed Winfrey’s worldview—as the museum’s website puts it, Winfrey is “a daughter of the civil rights generation whose phenomenal story of success illuminates the struggles and achievements of African American women throughout history.”

The second part includes artifacts and ephemera from Harpo Studios in Chicago, where Winfrey filmed “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The exhibition explores how Winfrey used the show to raise conversations around race, equality and gender through her interviews, improvement segments, and popular book club discussions.

The final part of the exhibition highlights her role as a “cultural influencer and tastemaker.” In addition to appearing in films like The Butler and A Wrinkle In Time as an actress, Winfrey has produced award-winning films like Beloved and the Ava DuVernay-directed feature Selma. She’s also helped launched the careers of a number of authors through her book club and has promoted arts and culture through her philanthropy and on The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

While Winfrey donated $21 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the museum told the Washington Post that her role as a benefactor did not influence the show. Instead, they explained that the exhibition was put together by museum scholars and curators Rhea L. Combs and Kathleen Kendrick, who worked hard to balance Winfrey’s personal story and success.

“We’re providing a context for understanding not only who she is, but how she became a global figure, and how she is connected to broader stories and themes,” Kendrick said.

France Just Announced a National Plan to Combat Sexual and Domestic Violence Against Women

On Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a national plan to combat sexism, sexual violence, and domestic violence against women. The policies he outlined include simplifying the process for reporting rape, implementing additional public safety measures for women, and educating schoolchildren about pornography. Meanwhile, women across France gathered for demonstrations against domestic and sexual violence in a rousing observance of Saturday’s designation as the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.

During his presidential campaign in 2016, Macron made gender equality a part of his platform. So although his policies weren’t directly prompted by the reignited #MeToo movement—or France’s viral equivalent: “#BalanceTonPorc”, meaning “out your pig”—that picked up after the wave of allegations against Harvey Weinstein, they’re being brought forth at a time when sexual assault and sexual violence is at the forefront of an incredibly necessary cultural conversation.

In Saturday’s speech, Macron began by observing a minute of silence for the 123 women killed in France by a partner or ex-partner in 2016. According to the BBC, an additional 225,000 were physically or sexually abused by their spouses, although fewer than 20 percent filed a report.

“It’s indispensable that the idea of shame changes sides, that the Republic cleanses its own concept of shame; that the everyday criminals who harass, insult, touch, attack never be excused, but identified, vilified, brought to justice, condemned as firmly as they should be,” he said. “France must no longer be one of those countries where women live in fear.”

As a part of the initial measures to protect women and make reporting sex crimes easier, Macron announced that women who experience sexual assault and harassment will be allowed to make their first statement from their homes—prior to bringing criminal charges up with the police—through a 24-hour online service. Through it, they’ll be able to speak to trained police and find out how to report their attack.

Public safety measures are also included in the plans. “On demand” bus stops are in the works to allow women to stop a bus at any point along a route so they can get home safely at night. An app for victims of online stalking will also be available.

According to the BBC, Macron also announced an awareness campaign to educate secondary school students about pornography.

Calling France’s society “sick with sexism,” he announced further proposals for laws that criminalize street harassment as well as extending the statute of limitation for the rape of minors from 20 years to 30 years.

Macron also stated that he wants to set the country’s age of sexual consent at 15, which, according to the BBC, aligns with the country’s legally fixed age of sexual maturity (France currently has no age of consent).

According to Reuters, French feminist group Osez le Féminisme stated that the only thing standing in the way of making these changes a reality is adequate funding from the government—which they don’t currently believe is the reality. “Without funding, any communication, training, awareness or help plan for the victims will be useless,” the group said.

France is notable, however, for making an effort to change the culture surrounding sexual and domestic violence. Back in America, U.S. President Donald Trump—who has been accused of sexual assault himself—recently refused to defend Alabama’s Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who multiple women have said pursued sexual relations with them when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s.

Cher Proves She's a National Treasure With Epic DACA Repeal Clapback

PHOTO: Tara Ziemba/Getty Images

Over the years, Cher has earned her reputation as a legitimate Twitter icon, frequently shading President Donald Trump by using the toilet emoji instead of his name. And her latest political clapback has everyone cheering once again in the wake of Trump’s order to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a federal program created by Barack Obama in 2012 that protects undocumented immigrants who entered the United States illegally as children, also known as Dreamers, from deportation.

Cher went on a Tweetstorm about the decision, saying, “Those Who Can Must Take a DREAMER In2 Their Home & Protect Them‼️I’m Ready 2 Do This & ??Others in MY BUSINESS WILL DO THE SAME‼️SANCTUARY.” One Twitter user, @bwebb56, who has since made her account private, doubted that the singer would actually put her money where her mouth is, writing that she’d “believe it when she saw it.” And, well, we found out what happens when you question Cher. She called the naysayer out to her millions of followers in six simple words: “Then keep your eyes open bitch.”

Needless to say, people were shook, writing things such as, “RT if you’re okay with using tax dollars to mosaic the walls of Trump’s cell with Cher’s tweets,” and “gotta delete your whole account now.” Cher hasn’t been the only celebrity to speak out against Trump and his DACA policies. actors, singers, tech leaders, and and Barack Obama himself have all condemned the latest ruling.
