Elizabeth Warren Made A Surprise Appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ — Twitter Reactions

Elizabeth Warren may have dropped out of the presidential race, but she returned to the spotlight on March 7 for the Saturday Night Live cold open.

During another coronavirus-related opening sketch, Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, played by Kate McKinnon, advises her viewers that the outbreak is an “urban legend—yes, I’m using ‘urban’ as a dog whistle,” and complains that criticism of President Donald Trump’s response to COVID-19 is the work of stark raving mad liberals.

After speaking to Jeanine Pirro (Cecily Strong), Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day) and Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), and Chris Matthews (Darrell Hammond), Ingraham patches in Elizabeth Warren to discuss her exit from the race…the actual Elizabeth Warren.

This skit is full of moments that Warren supporters will no doubt find enjoyable. When Ingrahm decides to roll tape of Warren pummeling Michael Bloomberg during the debates, she hits play on a recent viral video of Warren’s dog, Bailey, fighting staffers for a burrito. “Just to be clear, were you the dog or the burrito?” Ingraham asks.

“I was the dog,” Warren responds, to uproarious applauds by the live studio audience.

Warren added that she didn’t have any regrets about her presidential bid, especially because she got to give a billionaire a “swirlie on live TV.” The senator explains that she’s been practicing some self-care stepping down, which includes prank calling big banks, drag-racing Subarus, and staying off Twitter. The cold open then ended with McKinnon running into the room in full Warren gear, unwilling to miss the opportunity to thank her in person for her life’s work. “I’m not dead. I’m just in the Senate,” Warren replies. Watch the full sketch, below:

That’s not all. Having Warren on set at 30 Rock meant some behind-the-scenes antics with her impersonator.

The moment quickly made the rounds on Twitter, via Warren supporters and McKinnon enthusiasts, alike. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, even replied, “ok this is legendary.”

Here are some more reactions from the night:

Maybe Warren doesn’t need to avoid Twitter after all.

(If you subscribe, be sure to also check out the very-excellent The Good Fight which streams exclusively on CBS All-Access.)

Considering this year’s show is going to be hosted by Alicia Keys and will feature performances by a ton of your faves including Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, and an all-star Prince tribute, you’re not going to want to miss a minute. The presenter list is also stacked: Common, Cynthia Erivo, Dua Lipa, Billy Porter, Ava DuVernay, Shania Twain, Smokey Robinson, Bebe Rexha, Keith Urban and Stevie Wonder are all included in the lineup.

How to Watch the Grammys Red Carpet

You can also stream the Grammys red carpet on Sunday night. Considering this awards show usually features some of the most interesting celebrity fashion choices, we’d highly recommend tuning in to Entertainment Tonight‘s live coverage. The Recording Academy and CBS will stream GRAMMYs Live From the Red Carpet exclusively on Twitter via @RecordingAcad and @CBS. The live stream will be hosted by ET Live‘s Cassie DiLaura and The Recording Academy’s Alina Vission, the pre-show will feature coverage of red carpet arrivals and all kinds of behind-the-scenes action starting at 5 p.m. ET.

As for who we expect to take home statues: The Recording Academy, along with the rest of the world, seemed to have fallen in love with Lizzo, as the singer-rapper-flautist was nominated in eight major categories, including Album of the Year for Cuz I Love You. Her viral hit “Truth Hurts” was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, capping off what’s been an incredible year for her.

The Academy also embraced young artists like Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. Lana Del Rey received nominations for her album Norman Fucking Rockwell!, while Ariana Grande’s album Thank U, Next was recognized in the Best Pop Vocal category along with Taylor Swift’s “Lover”. Scarlett Johansson Called Fiancé Colin Jost the 'Love of My Life' During Saturday Night Live

The biggest surprise on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live wasn’t a special guest or an on-point sketch about the 2020 election. It was a moment that Scarlett Johansson, the evening’s host, shared with her fiancé and “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost during her opening monologue.

It was Johansson’s sixth time hosting the show—so she started off her monologue with some quips about her return to the Studio 8H. “If the show’s bad, what are the going to do? Fire my fiancé?” Johansson said. “Oh no! What will we do without his paycheck?”

Then, the monologue turned into a mini-Avengers installment, in which Pete Davidson made members of the cast disappear with “Infinity Stones.” At one point, Jost ran onstage to tell Johansson he’s okay, and she barely reacts. “I thought you’d be more relieved to see me!” Jost says. Johansson replies: “No, yeah. It’s great.”

After retrieving the other SNL cast members and ending Davidson’s reign of terror, Johansson’s monologue took a heartfelt turn. “I just want to say that this place means so much to me,” Johansson said, with Jost at her side. “I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here.” She then gave Jost a quick kiss to applause from the audience.

You can watch her entire monologue below:

Johansson and Jost were first rumored to be an item when they were spotted engaging in PDA at an SNL wrap party in May 2017. Since then, they’ve only been spotted on a handful of red carpets together, including two Avengers premieres and the 2018 Met Gala. The couple confirmed their engagement to the Associated Press around two years later.

Johansson and Jost aren’t known for opening up about their relationship—hence the surprise at their on-air moment. The few times Johansson has spoken about her soon-to-be husband, though, indicate how happy the two are together. “It was surprising; he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding,” she said about Jost in an interview with People. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic.”

Johansson has been married two times previously: first to actor Ryan Reynolds, and then to French journalist Romain Dauriac. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actor said she’s matured since her first marriage. “I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices,” she said. “I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Watch Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber Perform ‘Rise and Shine’ Live at a Charity Event

Kylie Jenner has had a pretty big year, even by Kardashian/Jenner standards. She officially became the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire; she sold 51% of Kylie Cosmetics to Coty Inc. for $600 million; she split with Travis Scott, the father of her daughter Stormi. But, perhaps most iconically, she created arguably best meme of the year with “Rise and Shine.”

In case you somehow missed it, Jenner went viral (well, more viral than usual) after posting a video tour of her Kylie Cosmetics offices. In one clip, she goes into Stormi’s room and sings “rise and shine” to her daughter. The internet took the moment and ran with it, as the internet does—and it was wonderful. She even trademarked the phrase so that she could turn it into a makeup collection (or more).

So what better way to wrap up the year than to perform that brief tune live at a charity event? Jenner, along with her friends, Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith were in attendance at an art gallery auction (curated by Bieber and his wife, Hailey) to benefit LIFT Los Angeles and Inner-City Arts. Thanks to social media footage, we can see the Biebs—who appears to be wearing a pajama-adjacent outfit—began the musical event with old hits like “Baby.”

He got Smith involved on “Never Say Never.”

But the real moment of the night was when he sang “Rise and Shine,” persuading Jenner to come to the mic.

Based on Bieber and Smith’s reactions in this clip, it was their favorite thing of the night too.

Fans on social media went wild over Jenner’s live debut of the…three words. “The way everyone was silent until Kylie start singing “rise and shine” and then Justin screaming out loud. THIS IS SO FUNNY,” one person wrote on Twitter. “Kylie singing rise and shine and justin and jaden jumping is something i didnt know i need until now,” another wrote.

2019, what a wild ride it’s been.

Selena Gomez  Performs Live for the First Time in Two Years at the 2019 AMAs

Kevin Winter/Getty Images

Gomez had taken some time out of the public eye in recent years. While she wasn’t releasing new movies or music, she focused on producing show like 13 Reasons Why, lending her voice to movies like Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and giving awesome toasts at her friend’s weddings. But earlier this fall, the singer stepped back into the spotlight, dropping back-to-back singles signaling a return to her musical roots.

Fans immediately surmised that both songs were about Gomez’s tumultuous relationship with Justin Bieber. While Gomez has not mentioned Bieber by name while promoting the new song, she has been getting super candid about her exes.

“Yeah, I think, you know, I’m really grateful too because I’ve actually experienced that [exes moving on to another relationship quickly] a million times before,” she said when speaking to Ryan Seacrest. “And that’s the unfortunate part about what I do. So it’s all very real to me, and I’m sure it’s just entertainment for other people, but I think I had become numb to it, and it would be stupid of me if I didn’t acknowledge what I had felt because it would be inauthentic, and that’s everything I claim to be and do.”

“These two songs were me wrapping up a chapter in a pretty little bow, and the rest of the album is just all about where I am now and where I’m going so, in my opinion, these are great songs, but I’ve saved the best for later,” Gomez added.

The singer recently announced that the full, as-yet-untitled album will be released on January 10, 2020.
