Brad Pitt Wore a Name Tag to an Event, and People Can’t Handle It

There’s a small list of people in this universe who don’t need a name tag for strangers to identify them: Oprah, Santa Claus, Madonna, Left Shark. Also on that list is Brad Pitt—which is why it’s hilarious he wore a literal name tag to the Oscars luncheon in Los Angeles on Monday, January 27.

To be fair, all the Oscar nominees who attend are given name tags, but something about Brad Pitt—Brad! Pitt!—wearing a name tag is too good. He’s not just an actor, but a part of society’s very fabric. He’s as big a cultural institution as McDonald’s and Apple and sneaking alcohol into the movie theater. As one fan accurately put it on Twitter, even squirrels know who Brad Pitt is.

And yet the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor opted to put his on for the luncheon. The photos, naturally, are incredible. “Hi. My name is Brad Pitt,” I picture him saying to luncheon-goers, pointing to his name tag enthusiastically. The whole thing is delightfully earnest. Honestly, give Pitt’s name tag an Academy Award right alongside the best supporting actor trophy he’ll no doubt win come February 9.

Here are just a few photos of actor Cynthia Erivo (who’s also an Oscar nominee this year) chatting with Pitt and his cute name tag:

“Did they spell my name right?” Pitt asks Erivo in my imagination, to which she just says, “Um, yeah.”

I’m sorry, Brad Pitt just can’t seriously appear on a name tag. Brad Pitt is what you wrote on your high-school-orientation name tag as a joke.

“Imagine meeting Brad Pitt—and he’s wearing a name tag, identifying him as ‘Brad Pitt,’” one person joked on Twitter. Another said, “I hope Brad Pitt wears a name tag to the #Oscars.”

Thank you for this gift, Oscars luncheon planners.

Kate Middleton Didn’t Wear Her Engagement Ring to an Event Today—Here’s Why

Kate Middleton had an official event Tuesday (January 28) at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, and she looked effortlessly chic. The Duchess of Cambridge had on a Dolce & Gabbana tweed skirt suit, which she paired with black tights and simple Gianvito Rossi pumps. Her jewelry was just as classic: “Empress” earrings and a necklace designed by Mappin and Webb.

Something noticeably missing from her ensemble, though, was her engagement ring, which previously belonged to Princess Diana. She had on her gold wedding band, but her other iconic ring, gifted to her by husband Prince William, was nowhere to be found.

So where was it? No, there isn’t any trouble in (royal) paradise. According to People, the Evelina London Children’s Hospital actually has a policy about visitors wearing minimal jewelry. As would be expected for a hospital visit, you have to thoroughly clean your hands before touring the wards, so it’s recommended you show up with as little jewelry as possible.

It’s important to note this isn’t the first time the duchess has done this. She frequently leaves her engagement ring at home when visiting hospitals. People points to her visit to the opening of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital in January 2018 as a recent example. It’s just a precaution to ensure Middleton’s priceless engagement ring stays, well, priceless.

“The Duchess of Cambridge visited Evelina London Children’s Hospital today to learn more about the creative art workshops which are delivered by the @nationalportraitgallery Hospital Programme,” Kensington Palace posted to its Instagram page about Middleton’s recent outing. “The NPG works closely with Evelina London to bring workshops and artists into the hospital, helping to support the health, well-being and happiness of the children who receive care there.”

To be honest, I didn’t even notice Middleton’s engagement ring was missing on this outing. I was too busy living for her sleek, impossibly shiny hair. Tell us your secrets, duchess.

Emilia Clarke No Longer Takes Selfies With Fans Following This Traumatic Event

Emilia Clarke said she won’t be taking selfies with fans anymore after a traumatic experience made her reconsider how she wants to interact with people when they see her in public.

In a recent interview on the Table Manners podcast, the Game of Thrones star discussed a particular stressful incident when a fan approached her for a photo at an airport.

“I was genuinely walking through an airport and I suddenly started having what I can only believe to be a panic attack brought on by complete exhaustion,” she recalled per Time.

The actor continued, “I was on my own, I was on the phone to my mum saying, ‘I feel like I can’t breathe, I don’t know what’s going on.’ ‘I’m there and the tears are coming out. I’m crying and crying, this guy’s like, ‘Can I get a selfie?’ And I was like, ‘I can’t breathe, I’m really sorry. Just having a minute.’ It was after a few moments like that where I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do this.’”

Clarke said the encounter made her realize she wants to engage in more meaningful and “human-to-human” interactions with her fans in the future. But she said she’s still happy to sign autographs if they want to remember the moment.

“When you do that, you have to have an interaction with that person, as opposed to someone just going, ‘Oi, give us a selfie, goodbye.’,” she said. “Then you have a chat and you’re actually having a truthful human-to-human thing, as opposed to it being this other thing that probably isn’t nice for them and isn’t nice to you.”

The 33-year-old acknowledged that although she signed up for fame, she’s “been trying to navigate how I can [interact with fans] without feeling like my soul is completely empty. Because they don’t really want to talk to you.”

“When you do a signing thing, you can actually look into their eyes and have a proper real human thing,” she added.

Just like that, Clarke found a way to put an end to fleeting selfies and contribute to her own mental well-being.

Watch Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber Perform ‘Rise and Shine’ Live at a Charity Event

Kylie Jenner has had a pretty big year, even by Kardashian/Jenner standards. She officially became the world’s youngest “self-made” billionaire; she sold 51% of Kylie Cosmetics to Coty Inc. for $600 million; she split with Travis Scott, the father of her daughter Stormi. But, perhaps most iconically, she created arguably best meme of the year with “Rise and Shine.”

In case you somehow missed it, Jenner went viral (well, more viral than usual) after posting a video tour of her Kylie Cosmetics offices. In one clip, she goes into Stormi’s room and sings “rise and shine” to her daughter. The internet took the moment and ran with it, as the internet does—and it was wonderful. She even trademarked the phrase so that she could turn it into a makeup collection (or more).

So what better way to wrap up the year than to perform that brief tune live at a charity event? Jenner, along with her friends, Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith were in attendance at an art gallery auction (curated by Bieber and his wife, Hailey) to benefit LIFT Los Angeles and Inner-City Arts. Thanks to social media footage, we can see the Biebs—who appears to be wearing a pajama-adjacent outfit—began the musical event with old hits like “Baby.”

He got Smith involved on “Never Say Never.”

But the real moment of the night was when he sang “Rise and Shine,” persuading Jenner to come to the mic.

Based on Bieber and Smith’s reactions in this clip, it was their favorite thing of the night too.

Fans on social media went wild over Jenner’s live debut of the…three words. “The way everyone was silent until Kylie start singing “rise and shine” and then Justin screaming out loud. THIS IS SO FUNNY,” one person wrote on Twitter. “Kylie singing rise and shine and justin and jaden jumping is something i didnt know i need until now,” another wrote.

2019, what a wild ride it’s been.

Taylor Swift Called Out Scooter Braun During Her Speech at Billboard's Women in Music Event

But Swift saved some of her harshest words for Braun, who acquired the rights to her masters when he purchased her former record label with backing from a private equity firm. “As your resident loud person, I feel the need to bring it up. That is the unregulated world of private equity coming in and buying up our music as if it is real estate, as if it’s an app or a shoe line. This just happened to me without my approval, consultation or consent,” she said. “After I was denied the chance to purchase my music outright, my entire catalogue was sold to Scoter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in a deal that I’m told was funded by the Soros Family, 23 Capital and the Carlyle Group. Yet to this day, none of these investors have bothered to contact me or my team directly to perform their due diligence on their investment. On their investment in me, to ask how I might feel about the new owner of my art. The music I wrote. The videos I created. Photos of me, my handwriting, my album designs.”

“Of course, Scooter never contacted me or my team to discuss it prior to the sale or even when it was announced. I’m fairly certain he knew how I would feel about it, though. Let me just say that the definition of the toxic male privilege in our industry is people saying, ‘Well, he’s always been nice to me’ when I’m raising valid concerns about artists and their rights to own their music,” she continued. “Of course he’s nice to you. If you’re in this room you have something he needs.”

[embedded content]

She continued, “The fact is that private equity enabled this man to think, according to his own social media post, that he could ‘buy me.’ I’m obviously not going willingly. Yet the most amazing thing was to discover that it would be the women in our industry who would have my back and show me the most vocal support at one of the most difficult times and I will never, ever forget it. Like ever.”

Well, that’s indeed one powerful way to kick off your 30th year, Tay. We’re impressed.
