Ex on the Beach (2018—)

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Want to know if you should get back with your ex? Bring them to a beautiful island without any of your real-world baggage holding you back. Honestly, this sounds like a terrible plan, but that’s none of my business. Watch on MTV.

Are You the One? (2014—)

After a series of interviews and tests, about 20 men and women are matched using the series’ fancy algorithm. Unfortunately for some of them, the singles are not told who their ideal partner actually is. Instead, they have to get to know everyone and take weekly tests to see if they can figure out their perfect match. If everyone finds their “one” by the end of the series, they win love and money. This might be the closest one to Love is Blind. Watch on MTV.

The Voice (2011—)

At least at first, all the very famous judges of The Voice know about the competing singers is their actual voice. During the blind auditions, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and newly-minted judge Nick Jonas are seated in chairs facing away from the stage. The singers have to perform their asses off to impress the judges who have the option to turn around and bring the performer onto their team. If more than one chair turns, the tables do too—the performer then gets to choose which judge is right for them. From there, it basically turns into every other vocal show, but if you love the judges as much as I do, The Voice is the best one on TV right now. Watch on Hulu.

The Circle (2020—)

The Circle is often described as “Big Brother meets Catfish,” and it delivers on that promise. Like Love Is Blind, the contestants never meet face-to-face, each living in their own apartment. Instead of communicating through walls, they create profiles on a social media app designed specifically for the reality show. (This means they can portray themselves however they wish.) To take home the $100,000 grand prize, the contestants rate one another each episode, eliminating the lowest-ranking players one by one. Whoever makes it to the end gets the money. No love to be found here, necessarily, but it is just as fun to watch as LIB. Watch on Netflix.

Back with the Ex (2018)

Whoever created Back with the Ex must be looking at all of our Instagram stalking habits. Back with the Ex follows four people trying to reignite an old flame. From high school sweethearts who were driven apart by a cheating scandal to a six-year relationship that ended via text message, this show may pull on your heartstrings more than any other on this list. Feels too real, you know? Watch on Netflix.

Dating Around (2019)

Dating Around follows one person each episode as they embark on five (mostly awkward) first dates. Once the dates are over, they pick the one they’d like to go out with again. Like the best of Netflix documentary series, Dating Around is a much more honest look at life in the dating world as opposed to a gimmicky game. Watch on Netflix.

'Love Is Blind' Didn't Show Us Every Couple Who Got Engaged


Love Is Blind, Netflix‘s latest foray into the world of reality programming, is the show that everyone’s talking about on your social media feeds—and with good reason.

If you haven’t yet watched, here’s the deal: 15 men and 15 women agreed to take part in a social experiment wherein they try to find a spouse without first seeing that person. In the early days of the show, the cast basically goes through rounds of speed dating where they sit in “pods” and get to know each other to find out if they’re possible soulmates, but they have no idea what they other person looks like. The men and women live in separate quarters where they often shared their feelings about who they were clicking with.

We get to see many of the Love Is Blind contestants get engaged within days of meeting each other—and at that point they are finally allowed to see each other and then jet off on a vacation in Mexico. Interestingly, though, viewers didn’t get to see all of the eight couples who got engaged.

“We only have so much time to tell a story, but there are lots of interesting stories. There’s the guy, Rory who features in a couple of scenes,” series creator Chris Coelen told Entertainment Weekly. “He actually got engaged to a woman who you only see for a brief moment early on named Danielle. They were together for a little while and then they broke up and she ended up dating the guy who appears at the very beginning of the show, Matt. I think they were all curious. One of the things I love about the show is, ultimately, when they go on their romantic getaway, they do get to see what the other ones look like and Jessica gets to see Barnett in the flesh for the first time and you get to see whether that matters and if maybe she made the wrong choice. I love that element of the show and I think that in real life, they were all really curious to know what the others looked like.”

The entire show is quite a wild ride, but it must also be crazy to go through the process and have your love story edited out for time. Danielle certainly thinks so, based on her Instagram.

Love Is Blind is now streaming on Netflix.

Scarlett Johansson Called Fiancé Colin Jost the 'Love of My Life' During Saturday Night Live


The biggest surprise on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live wasn’t a special guest or an on-point sketch about the 2020 election. It was a moment that Scarlett Johansson, the evening’s host, shared with her fiancé and “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost during her opening monologue.

It was Johansson’s sixth time hosting the show—so she started off her monologue with some quips about her return to the Studio 8H. “If the show’s bad, what are the going to do? Fire my fiancé?” Johansson said. “Oh no! What will we do without his paycheck?”

Then, the monologue turned into a mini-Avengers installment, in which Pete Davidson made members of the cast disappear with “Infinity Stones.” At one point, Jost ran onstage to tell Johansson he’s okay, and she barely reacts. “I thought you’d be more relieved to see me!” Jost says. Johansson replies: “No, yeah. It’s great.”

After retrieving the other SNL cast members and ending Davidson’s reign of terror, Johansson’s monologue took a heartfelt turn. “I just want to say that this place means so much to me,” Johansson said, with Jost at her side. “I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here.” She then gave Jost a quick kiss to applause from the audience.

Johansson and Jost were first rumored to be an item when they were spotted engaging in PDA at an SNL wrap party in May 2017. Since then, they’ve only been spotted on a handful of red carpets together, including two Avengers premieres and the 2018 Met Gala. The couple confirmed their engagement to the Associated Press around two years later.

Johansson and Jost aren’t known for opening up about their relationship—hence the surprise at their on-air moment. The few times Johansson has spoken about her soon-to-be husband, though, indicate how happy the two are together. “It was surprising; he’s got a lot behind that news desk he’s hiding,” she said about Jost in an interview with People. “He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic.”

Johansson has been married two times previously: first to actor Ryan Reynolds, and then to French journalist Romain Dauriac. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actor said she’s matured since her first marriage. “I feel like I’m in a place in my life, I feel I’m able to make more active choices,” she said. “I’m more present, I think, than I’ve been before.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Kick Off Pride Month with Sweet Instagram Post Declaring 'Love Is Love'


Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broke records when they launched their own Instagram account—@SussexRoyal—in April after previously sharing social media channels with Kate Middleton and Prince William.

Since that time, they’ve amassed over 8.4 million followers and have used the platform a little bit differently than we’ve come to expect from the royal family—from baby Archie’s birth announcement to commenting on other royal posts with emojis. They also have a pretty cool strategy where each month they only follow accounts dedicated to a cause or issue that is important to them. Last month it was mental health—and now in June, the Sussexes are celebrating Pride month.

“Continuing with our tradition to rotate the accounts we follow based on causes and social issues that matter to us: For the month of June we ‘proudly’ shine a light on PRIDE,” the Instagram caption reads. “This month we pay tribute to the accounts supporting the LGBTQ+ community – those young and old, their families and friends, accounts that reflect on the past and are hopeful for a deservedly more inclusive future.”

“We stand with you and support you ?,” the caption continues. “Because it’s very simple: love is love.”

The image is a collage of photos from the accounts chosen by the Duke and Duchess to highlight. The organizations are both British and American and include The Trevor Project, the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Stonewall UK, Pride, and It Gets Better.

Markle and Harry also paid a sweet tribute to Princess Diana, who did an enormous amount of work with HIV and AIDS patients in the 1990s prior to her death. They included a 1996 photo of Harry’s mom sitting with a one such patient at London Lighthouse, a center for people affected by HIV and AIDS.

The response in the comments section has been overwhelmingly positive. Markle’s friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin wrote, “love IS LOVE ✊??❤️????.” Another fan said, “We stan for a couple that promotes inclusivity and diversity! ????❤️”

A number of the organizations also expressed their gratitude to the royal couple. “Thank you so much for your support of lgbtq+ youth! Happy pride month! ❤️?????,” It Gets Better wrote. “Thank you so much for your support in raising awareness! ❤️?,” the Matthew Shepard Foundation added.

It’s great to see the royal family supporting equal rights for all. And they’re not the only big names making a statement to kick off such an important month—also on Instagram, Taylor Swift posted a letter to her senator to raise awareness for the passage of the LGBTQ+-focused Equality Act.

Zayn Malik Tweeted 'Love You' to Gigi Hadid, and Twitter Had a Meltdown


Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid reportedly broke up back in January, but whether things are over-over between them or not is still a little TBD (not that, you know, they have to define their status for us). On Saturday, for example, he dropped her an L-bomb on Twitter, writing, “@GiGiHadid love you.”

Hadid, who is currently out and about at Paris Fashion Week, didn’t respond (models gotta model). In the meantime, Twitter exploded as it tried to figure out if whether Malik’s missive actually indicated that the on-again, off-again couple has rekindled their relationship—although the only way to be sure would be if one of them confirmed it. They have a habit of keeping things ambiguous; at one point, Malik had shared that they didn’t believe they need to define things for anyone. “We’re adults. We don’t need to put a label on it, make it something for people’s expectations,” he told GQ.

Regardless, the little outreach from Malik sparked a virtual storm:

The couple’s relationship is hard to follow, so there’s a full timeline if you need to catch up. Basically, however, they dated for about three years after getting together in 2015. But in 2018, they released some of the world’s most civil break-up statements, announcing that they’d gone their separate ways.

“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and friend,” Malik said in his. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time; we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ”

“I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be,” Hadid said in her.

However, they’ve been spotted together in recent months. The Sun obtained several photos of Hadid leaving Malik’s apartment following rumors that they had split. But for now at least, Zigi shows no signs of confirming things anytime soon.

Wait, Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the 'Love Actually' Kids?


Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal engagement has been very distracting this week. Between news of Harry’s real first name and the blinding dazzle of Markle’s ring, the approaching holiday season, with all the classic movies that come along with it, has almost been eclipsed—almost. Luckily, comedian Travon Free remembered to have his annual Love Actually viewing, because he made a fantastic discovery—Harry and his bride to be look a lot like grown-up versions of the film’s cutest almost couple, Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Joanna (Olivia Olson).

Free first tweeted out a side-by-side image of the real-life couple and their adorable fictional doppelgangers, according to HuffPost, immediately putting the puzzle pieces together for all the fans of the film. Even Olivia Olson, aka American Joanna, agrees the resemblance is there, posting the side-by-sides on her Instagram with the caption, “Memedom congrats to the happy couple…lol.”

Of course, fans do know exactly what happened to “grown-up Sam and Joanna,” after the continuation of their love story was addressed in a short Love Actually “sequel” released this summer for Red Nose Day. In the short film, Sam, now in his late 20s, meets up with his dad (Liam Neeson), who was so supportive of his youthful courtship, to tell him he’s reunited with Joanna and the two are engaged. It’s truly a love story for the ages, now tied to another great love story.

Go ahead and take this as your Yuletide reminder to rewatch the greatest British anthology Christmas rom-com ever made, and listen to “All I Want For Christmas Is You” on repeat while gazing at photos of Meghan and Prince Harry. A Merry Christmas, indeed.
