Lili Reinhart Wrote a Savage Message to Fans Petitioning for a ‘Game of Thrones’ Do-over

More than 800,000 fans have signed a petition for HBO to remake the eighth season of Game of Thrones. One person who’s not on board with this, though, is Lili Reinhart. The Riverdale star took to Instagram on Thursday (May 16) to shut down those in favor of this lofty request, which knocks GoT showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as “woefully incompetent writers.”

“This is not how television works,” Reinhart wrote in a comment under Variety‘s post about the petition. “TV shows are not fan service. It’s ridiculous of people to think they can demand creative change from artists.”

Reinhart’s comment has sparked a bit of a debate about whether or not television actually is “fan service.” “The customer is the fan and if the customer doesn’t like the product, actors, [or] shows, then the money stops coming in. Without the fans, there isn’t a show because there is no money,” one person wrote.

“I agree that demanding a change of directing is unrealistic; however, it comes to show that people find it hard to bid farewell,” wrote another.

Check out Lili Reinhart‘s message for yourself, below. (And head on over to Variety‘s Instagram page to read more comments.)

To call season eight of Game of Thrones divisive would be an understatement. The show’s depiction of its female characters has been a point of particular criticism and concern—so much so that stars like Jessica Chastain have chimed in. After Sansa’s sexual assault backstory was put in an “empowering” light, the Molly’s Game actor tweeted, “Rape is not a tool to make a character stronger. A woman doesn’t need to be victimized in order to become a butterfly. The #littlebird was always a Phoenix. Her prevailing strength is solely because of her. And her alone. #GameOfThrones.”

Game of Thrones ends once and for all this Sunday starting at 9:00 P.M. ET on HBO. Fingers crossed that the showrunners deliver a finale that satisfies fans.

Lili Reinhart Opens Up About Her Battle With Anxiety and Depression

Lili Reinhart continues to speak out about mental health—and on Friday, February 15, she got even more personal as a way to encourage others to seek help when they need it. The Riverdale star opened up about her battle with anxiety and depression, sharing on a series of honest and open Instagram Stories that she’s re-entering therapy.

“Friendly reminder for anyone who needs to hear it: Therapy is never something to feel ashamed of,” Reinhart wrote in a series of Stories. “Everyone can benefit from seeing a therapist. Doesn’t matter how old or ‘proud’ you’re trying to be.”

“We are all human. And we all struggle,” she added in a next series of posts. “Don’t suffer in silence. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help.”

“I’m 22. I have anxiety and depression,” the actress continued. “And today I started therapy again.”

This isn’t the first time the actress has spoken about her struggle with mental health. In December, she announced she’d be taking a break from Twitter to get away from all the negativity. “Taking a break from that toxic site and the people on it who feel the need to attack me, my cast mates, my relationship, and Riverdale,” she wrote at the time.

Since then, she’s made her return to the social-media platform but hasn’t been as active—though a post or two about boyfriend Cole Sprouse have definitely snuck in her feed.

In the past, Reinhart has also been very open about other personal insecurities, including her struggles with body image and acne. “Sometimes I feel like I look like shit. Sometimes I don’t want to talk to anyone. And I’m allowed to have those days,” she told Glamour in November. “I’m not going to apologize for that.”

Lili Reinhart Just Announced She's Taking a Break From Twitter

Lili Reinhart has had enough of Twitter trolling — and she’s not backing down. On Sunday, December 16, the Riverdale actor posted a series of Instagram Stories airing her frustration with Twitter trolls and the “toxic” environment of Twitter. She also announced that she’s “taking a break” from the social platform for awhile.

“Do people on Twitter ever get tired of being so negative and disrespectful to literally everyone and everything?” she began in her post. “Are they really that miserable?”

“There’s hate everywhere,” she continued. “But especially Twitter. It’s like a cesspool for evil 15-year-olds who don’t know what the hell they’re talking about and have nothing better to do. Taking a break from that toxic site and the people on it who feel the need to attack me, my cast mates, my relationship, and Riverdale.”

“Hate to break it to you online trolls,” Lili ended her story. “Spreading your hate and overall negativity online won’t make you any less miserable.”

This isn’t the first time Lili has spoken up about the intense scrutiny she and her castmates receive online. Back in October, she tweeted about the constant speculation she deals with over her relationship with costar Cole Sprouse, writing in a now-deleted tweet, “Can I tweet something stupid without everyone speculating that my relationship is suffering?? F*ck. Grow up.”

“It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote. “If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety…please reevaluate your priorities,” she once wrote on Tumblr about the speculation about her relationship with Sprouse. “I also want to point out that there is a difference between shipping Betty and other characters, and shipping me with literally everyone I make eye contact with. There are so many other things to focus your attention and energy on.”

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse Just Beat the 'Riverdale' Cast at Their Own Trolling Game

Possiblymaybebut-most-likely-definitely couple Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are at it again with the Instagram PDA, this time with Reinhart posting a shirtless photo of Sprouse with the caption, “I hope you don’t mind.”

The public record has shown that this is usually the part when one of their Riverdale co-stars swoops in to brilliantly troll the two of them with a sarcastic comment or question about their relationship status—but this time, Sprouse beat them to the punch. He quickly responded to Reinhart’s photo by writing, “Are you guys dating?”

Well done, Sprouse. This is almost as good as the time his co-stars Casey Cott and KJ Apa recreated his birthday tribute to Reinhart by using a hilarious shirtless ‘gram of Apa and Sprouse’s same caption: “Both the birthday and my gift. My little muse, have a good day my love.”

Or the time Camila Mendes dug up a meme from the movie Ghost that read, “when you third wheel so much you basically become part of the relationship,” and captioned it, “@lilireinhart @colesprouse we’re such a cute couple.”

While Reinhart and Sprouse have never actually told the world they’re dating, the relationship has been pretty much confirmed through all of their social media flirting and their recent appearance together at the Met Gala. Still, Reinhart opened up on Tumblr about wanting to keep her private life away from so much mindless scrutiny.

“It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote. “If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety…please reevaluate your priorities.”

It looks like the Riverdale cast hasn’t jumped in on Sprouse’s latest Instagram hijinks, but if we know anything about them, it’s pretty likely they’ll come up with some hilarious comebacks. Sprouse may have won this round, but we’ll just have to see who is quickest on the trolling draw next time around.

Lili Reinhart Thought Cole Sprouse's Voice Was 'Annoying' When They First Met

Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse haven’t said the words “We’re dating” yet, but there’s plenty of evidence on social media that suggests they’re at least more than friends. Take Sprouse’s Instagram post from September 13, for example, in which he calls Reinhart his “muse” and his “love.” Reinhart said something similar to Sprouse on Instagram for his birthday in August, writing, “I’m so thankful that our paths intertwined to form this beautiful adventure. Happy birthday, my love.” I think it’s safe to say these two are quite found of each other—and have no problem talking about it.

But this wasn’t always the case. In fact, Reinhart’s first impression of Sprouse wasn’t exactly positive. “I thought his voice was annoying,” she tells Glamour in the video, above. “That was my first impression. I was like, ‘That guy’s got an annoying voice.’ And now it’s grown on me.”

This is just one of many things Reinhart and Sprouse say about each other in this video. We had both them and three of their other costars—Casey Cott, Madelaine Petsch, and Vanessa Morgan—complete friendship exercises, and the result is just delightful. It’s beyond clear from this eight-minute clip that this cast thinks the world of each other, which makes their chemistry on Riverdale all the more sweet.

“[Lili is] one of those people that consistently pushes me to be better at the arts that I’m pursuing, and that’s just the kind of person she is,” Sprouse says about Reinhart at the beginning of the video. “She inspires excellent out of everybody she works with.”

Watch more of these friendship exercises for yourself, above.

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse Just Got Hilariously Trolled by Their 'Riverdale' Costars

Just a few short days ago, Riverdale‘s Cole Sprouse added more fuel to the are-they-or-aren’t-they dating fire when he posted an artistically topless Instagram photo of co-star and rumored girlfriend Lili Reinhart to his account in celebration of her birthday. “Both the birthday and the gift. My little muse, happy birthday my love,” he wrote in the caption. Reinhart seemed like she loved the picture—she dropped a heart emoji into the comments.

Although the photo was stunning, it also opened the rumored couple up to some pretty hilarious trolling by their friends and Riverdale costars.

On Friday, costar Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, posted his own take on Sprouse’s birthday present—only this time it starred KJ Apa. Cott and Apa even used the same caption as Sprouse, writing, “Both the birthday and my gift. My little muse, have a good day my love.”

Thankfully, Reinhart found the entire thing to be hilarious, writing in a comment on Cott’s post, “Show me those nips.” (Apa also threw in a heart in the comments.)

Of course, she’d likely have to find this funny when you consider just how much her castmates love to poke fun at her and Sprouse on Instagram. In August, their other Riverdale pal Camila Mendes essentially confirmed their relationship by commenting on a meme saying “when you third wheel so much you basically become part of the relationship,” which was posted by the aggregated account, @MyTherapistSays. In the comments, Mendes said, ” @lilireinhart @colesprouse we’re such a cute couple.”

Though these coded messages could mean they are together, we might never know for sure: Reinhart has made it pretty clear in the past that her business isn’t open to everyone’s opinions.

“It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote on Tumblr. “If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety…please reevaluate your priorities.”

As long as the cast keeps the Instagram hilarity going, Sprouse and Reinhart keeping their relationship status private is OK with us.
