Here’s When Meghan Markle’s Maternity Leave Is Ending

Meghan Markle has kept a pretty low profile since she became a mom. Her unofficial maternity leave started back in March, when Kensington Palace confirmed that she did not “currently have any more official engagements” on her calendar. However, it looks as though she’s back in action—and her first postbaby engagement is next Thursday, September 12, according to People.

The occasion is pretty exciting too. Markle will be back in public view to launch the workwear fashion line she’s been cooking up to benefit Smart Works, a charity for which she’s a patron. The organization helps women in need transition back into the workforce, and they often provide professional clothing needed for interviews and such. Markle has been cranking away on the capsule collection with four brands, including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis & Partners, Jigsaw, and her longtime friend the designer Misha Nonoo.

Markle first announced the line this summer, when she edited the September issue of British Vogue. “To help with this, I asked Marks & Spencer, John Lewis & Partners, Jigsaw and my friends, the designer Misha Nonoo, if they were willing to design a capsule collection of more classic options for a workwear wardrobe,” she wrote in the magazine. “Taking the idea further, many of the brands agreed to use the one-for-one model: for each item purchased by a customer, one is donated to the charity. Not only does this allow us to be part of each other’s story, it reminds us we are in it together.”

She’s also shared photos on her Instagram account that show her visiting the charity and going through its clothing options for women. And above, you’ll see Markle hard at work behind the scenes on a photo shoot.

There’s no word yet on how the launch will be organized, but we do know it’s going to be in London. We can’t wait to see what Markle has in store.

Meghan Markle’s Gorgeous Birthday Cake Had a Special Meaning

Meghan Markle just celebrated her 38th birthday this month. We’re sure Prince Harry and baby Archie made the day special for the Duchess of Sussex, since the celebration reportedly included a treat from one of the subjects in the issue of British Vogue she edited: Luminary Bakery. Markle mentioned the cake shop, which gives jobs and training to women who are experiencing poverty or domestic violence, in the magazine—so it’s especially meaningful that the bakery created a cake for Markle’s birthday.

Hello! reports that Markle chose to have a quieter birthday get-together at Frogmore Cottage with husband Prince Harry and her new baby, which of course included one of Luminary Bakery’s creations. While we don’t know what her cake looked like, we’re sure it was a great match for the duchess’s celebration based on the bakery’s gorgeous Instagram:

Last week Luminary Bakery posted a photo of the note Markle sent the business after she included it in British Vogue. In it Markle thanks the business for its work and explains why it was important to highlight Luminary Bakery. (She also demonstrated her calligraphy skills in the process, natch.)

“When I knew I would be secretly guest editing the September issue of British Vogue, including Luminary Bakery was a non-negotiable,” Markle writes in the note. “The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there—you all embody what it means to be ‘forces for change’. Thank you for being a part of this special project.”

The bakery also published a note on Instagram thanking Vogue and letting their new followers know more about what they do: “Luminary is a social enterprise working to empower the UK’s most disadvantaged women. We offer skills training in the art of baking, paid employment in our business and a supportive community to help women thrive,” the post said. It makes sense that they’d want to thank her in, literally, such a sweet way.

I Visited Meghan Markle’s Eyebrows Place and Learned So Many Tips

To say my eyebrows have always been lush would be polite. When I was growing up, they were bushy, and not in the cool Boy Brow kind of way. I have dark, thick hair—and the brows to match. Case in point: Back in middle school a guy once told me, “Your eyebrows are just so masculine,” and I went home and cried. My mother plied me with photos of Brooke Shields and told me how lucky I was. But in all of my favorite magazines all I saw were hyper-tweezed shots of Gwen Stefani, Drew Barrymore, and Nicole Richie, which made me dream of having dainty little crescent moons above my eyes.

But then something amazing happened. In 2011, Cara Delevingne hit the scene, and suddenly eyebrows weren’t something to minimize. Instead, they were on fleek. Celebrities everywhere began growing theirs out to stay au courant, and in fashion the mentality was the bushier, the better. My brows became my secret weapon, not my shame.

And while I have Delevingne to thank for helping me own my look, these days I have a new brow icon. None other than Meghan Markle. The shape! The thickness! Hers are total perfection. So it’ll come as no surprise that when I was visiting London earlier this month, one of the first stops on my itinerary was the famous salon where the Duchess gets her eyebrows done.

However, when I got to Nails & Brows, the black-owned boutique in the ultra-luxe neighborhood of Mayfair, I learned that it’s not the Markle that its customers flock to the salon for, it’s the Audrey. When Sherrille Riley founded the salon in 2014, she unveiled its signature brow treatment, which is inspired by Audrey Hepburn. “The Audrey consists of a straight, archless brow that tapers out toward your temple. The sculpt instantly lifts your face and creates a fresh and youthful appearance,” she tells me. And it’s the style that Meghan Markle always requests when visiting the salon. I was sold.

When my time came, they took me upstairs where I laid back on a plush white leather chair (airy, monochromatic accents is very much the aesthetic of the salon) beside a series of regulars—one who was getting married over the weekend and made sure to stop in before her big day. As the woman chatted about her upcoming nuptials, my stylist set to work measuring the dimensions of my face (I have been getting my brows done since I was 11 and never once has someone taken the time to actually make sure my brows were proportionate to the rest of my face). Using a piece of thread, she measured from my nostril to the bottom corner of my brow, and kindly told me that the length was too long and that I need to “take some hair off the sides.” The trick, she says, is to extend the string from your nostril to the outer edge of your eye—wherever that line hits on your brow is where the tail should end.

Overall it took them 40 minutes of threading, tweezing, filling in, and highlighting to give my brows that magic Meghan Markle/Audrey Hepburn realness—and I’ve never loved them more. So here’s my gift to you, a breakdown of exactly what they did, plus a few tricks for bringing out the best in your brows. Spoiler: It requires a lot of brushing.

Step 1:
Take a brow brush—Riley recommends using the Beauty Edit Mayfair Brow Styler—and thread or tweeze your brows in a straight line, while following their natural shape. Remember: The Audrey is all about bringing your brow up and making it archless.

Prince Harry Is Already Making Dad Jokes About Meghan Markle’s Pregnancy

Meghan Markle hasn’t even given birth yet, but Prince Harry is already making dad jokes. His latest one happened on the couple’s current trip to Morocco. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were visiting a school in the town of Asni when someone congratulated Markle on her pregnancy. Prince Harry quickly swooped in with some dad humor. “What, you’re pregnant?” he said, pretending to be shocked at what the well-wisher said.

Markle played along, quipping, “Surprise!” as she held back her laughter. And that’s when Prince Harry jumped in with the ultimate corny joke: “Is it mine?” he said.

It’s official: Prince Harry is going to be one of those dads, the ones who wear chunky white sneakers, fanny packs, and Hawaiian T-shirts to Disney World. On Halloween, he’ll put on a costume to bring his child to school—even when they’re 16. And he’ll have plenty more jokes where this one came from.

Watch Prince Harry and Markle have this exchange for yourself, below:

Meghan Markle has been having quite the exciting month. Just last week she had her baby shower in New York City, which several of her famous friends, including Gayle King, Serena Williams, and Amal Clooney, attended. “She’s very kind. She’s very generous and a really, really sweet person. I think her friends just wanted to celebrate her,” King said about the shower. “A good time was had by all.”

Now she and Prince Harry are in Morocco, where she received a henna tattoo to celebrate her baby. “It’s for when we have a big party. Now she is pregnant we do the henna to keep her happy with the baby,” Khadeja Oukattou, an Education for All housemother, told People about the ink. “For good luck.”

Markle is reportedly due in late April-slash-early May. Let the royal baby countdown begin.

Meghan Markle’s Outfit Included a Subtle Callout to Her Growing Family

Prince Harry might have missed Meghan Markle’s celebrity-filled baby shower in New York City yesterday (he was back in the U.K. attending military exercises with the Royal Marines), but he wasn’t totally absent from the trip. The Duchess of Sussex found a sweet way to reference her husband on her way back home to London.

Markle was photographed leaving the hotel where the Serena Williams–hosted festivities took place late Wednesday. Under one of her signature camel coats, she wore the sort of athleisure outfit we’d all like to be wearing when we travel: black jacket, black leggings, black baseball cap, and black sneakers. She completed her look with a chic leather carry-on bag, identified as the Le Sud Weekender by Cuyana.

According to a press release from Cuyana, Markle’s carry-on featured a subtle, personalized detail that made it feel much more special, given the occasion. Her Le Sud bag was monogrammed with an “H” on its side, presumably as a nod to Prince Harry. (Customization is an option when you buy Cuyana accessories online.) The Duchess’s luggage of choice is available for $395 on the brand’s website.

The Duchess of Sussex is a fan of the California-based brand, which is founded on the idea of creating timeless essentials for conscious shoppers. She carried its Mini Saddle Bag at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in Sydney back in October. Her makeup artist Daniel Martin has also designed a capsule collection for the label.

But back to Markle’s latest travel outfit. Her carry-on wasn’t the only sweet callout to her growing family: Fashion blog Meghan’s Mirror pointed out that she was also wearing Jennifer Meyer’s “Mommy” nameplate necklace as she left her New York hotel. (Probably a shower gift.)

The sweet necklace is still available at select retailers for a cool $850.

As for the rest of her airport style, Markle stuck to her usual high-low mix. Her jacket was by Ingrid & Isabel ($88), her leggings were Lululemon’s Align yoga pants ($98), and her sneakers were Adidas ($157).

Meghan Markle’s Baby Shower: All the Details

It’s happening, people: Meghan Markle‘s highly-anticipated baby shower is going down in New York City today (February 19). Details about the gathering have slowly been trickling out, but now that it’s fully underway we have even more information.

Before we get into it, though, one interesting thing to note is royal mothers-to-be typically don’t have baby showers. Victoria Arbiter, a royals expert, told ABC News in 2013 such events would be seen as “highly inappropriate” because the royal family is “clearly very wealthy.” “There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves,” she explained.

But Meghan Markle‘s baby shower is different. The gathering is more of a way for Markle to reunite with close friends than to receive actual presents (though we’re sure there will be some of those too).

Here’s everything we know (so far) about the fun celebration:

It’s happening in New York City. Specifically at a swanky uptown hotel, according to Hello. Very fitting for a duchess.

The guest list is stacked. Omid Scobie, an ABC News royals contributor, tells Good Morning America 15 guests are slated to attend. “[Guests] include best pal Jessica Mulroney, actress and close pal Abigail Spencer has flown in, and Priyanka Chopra is supposed to be flying in especially for this from London Fashion Week,” he says, adding, “It’ll be a celebration with her closest friends.”

Why this date. “The trip was planned some months ago and, with [an official trip to] Morroco this weekend, this is the last available time Meghan can travel before the Baby Sussex is born,” Scobie tells Good Morning America. “Over the weekend she has been catching up with some of her closest friends, visiting favorite spots in the city and even shopping for baby clothes.”

A second baby shower is also happening in England. According to this tweet from Scobie:

The décor. Official photos probably won’t come out from this super-private gathering, but paparazzi did catch pink roses being delivered to the reported location before Markle’s arrival. Hello notes the orange, yellow, and pink hues to other flowers could be a nod to Markle’s spring due date. Someone was also spotted carrying in an orange tree, which symbolizes prosperity, happiness, and luck—the perfect message for an expecting mother.

The gifts. Again, this information probably won’t officially be released, but paparazzi did snap a Babyletto crib being delivered to the shower’s uptown New York location.
