Ariana Grande Opens Up to Fans About How Music 'Saved Her Life' in an Emotional Instagram

Ariana Grande is busy preparing for her Sweetener tour, which kicks off in about two weeks on March 18. But before she starts playing stadiums all over the country, she took some time to thank her fans for all of their support during an emotional year.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday night, Grande expressed her gratitude for friends, family, and fans who have stood by her.

“‘Bout to embark on my third tour and am for sure deep as fuck in my feelings and getting my period so…. this is probably gonna be too much,” she wrote. “But I just want to say how grateful I am for my life, for the people in it, for the ups and challenges, for the laughter and the pain, for this music and for the lifelong friendships I’ve made thru making it (that includes my friendship with y’all).”

The singer has had a lot to reckon with recently. She spent a lot of time healing from a terrorist attack that killed multiple fans at her Manchester Arena concert in May 2017. She also ended her short engagement to comedian Pete Davidson, following the death of her ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller. In between, she had to answer to legitimate criticism about how she’s used cultural signifiers in her music, got in a public back-and-forth with the Grammys, and fought/forgave the TV host Piers Morgan. It was a lot, especially in a year in which she released two albums and won her first-ever Grammy.

“I cant really fathom all that has happened over the past few years. I don’t even really know where i’m going with this post but I’m just grateful to be here still. And excited to see you. I’m prolly gonna cry a lot,” she continued. “A few months ago I told my team I wasn’t even in an okay enough place to tour or work at all and my friends, you guys and this music really saved my life and turned everything around.”

Her fans responded with lots of love and support. “I admire you for being such a good, kind, real, positive and very strong person. You’re just perfect,” one fan responded.

Grande was honest about the fact that she’s still working through some difficulties, but her overall message was a testament of how she’s trying to approach the future with a positive outlook.

“I’m still healing but I feel a lot lighter as of late and I think this is really going to be such a beautiful time,” she said.

Demi Lovato Just Marked Six Months of Sobriety With Two Powerful Instagram Stories

Demi Lovato is celebrating six months of sobriety today, and her posts on Instagram to commemorate her milestone show that she has a supportive team behind her. In two back-to-back stories, Lovato published an image of a cake with a card, and then a photo of her six-month sobriety coin.

“Happy 6 mo. We are so fucking proud of you! Love, Team DL,” the card says.

Demi Lovato Just Marked Six Months of Sobriety With Two Powerful Instagram Stories

The milestone comes after Lovato was hospitalized after a highly publicized overdose in July. She remained in the hospital for about three weeks before going into treatment, and she’s kept a relatively low profile ever since. Still, she’s broken her silence a few times and opened up to fans about her sobriety.

Lovato also released a statement in August, writing, “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time.”

In December, Lovato got candid again on Twitter, this time using her platform to blast tabloids that have spread mistruths about her addiction. She took agency and promised that “someday I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today…but until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up shit that you know nothing about. I still need space and time to heal.”

Lovato has always been honest about her struggles with addiction, and her candid approach to discussing these issues has helped change how the entertainment industry addresses the topic. Throughout the recovery process, Lovato has had a legion of fans and celebrities rallying behind her and voicing their love and encouragement.

The six-month posts shows that Lovato is still surrounded by people who care and are committed to helping her throughout the recovery process—and it’s a testament of her own strength and resilience.

Selena Gomez Just Returned to Instagram to Open Up About Her Year of 'Challenges'

Selena Gomez low-key returned to Instagram last week when she appeared in Taylor Swift’s most recent post. However, the “Hands to Myself” singer published the first message to her account since September on Monday, January 14, outlining the “challenges” she faced last year.

“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” Gomez posted alongside two photos of herself. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

Take a look at the post for yourself, below:

Gomez was quite transparent about the obstacles she encountered in 2018. In late September, she announced she was taking a “social media break.” “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” she posted on September 24. “Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings.”

Then, in October, news broke that Gomez was allegedly seeking treatment following an “emotional breakdown” she had at the hospital about low white blood cell count. This reason was never confirmed by Gomez’s team, nor was the treatment itself. “She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point,” a source told People in October. “She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast.”

Regardless of what happened, it appears Gomez is in a great place now, and that’s what matters.

Kourtney Kardashian Is Promoting Flat-Tummy Shakes on Instagram, and Followers Aren't Happy

Kourtney Kardashian is no stranger to a detox—and let’s just say that the Kardashian-Jenners in general aren’t averse to social media spon-con, subsidized by products like “appetite-suppressing lollipops” (looking at you for that one, Kim). The messages these posts send about body image, nutrition, and health are, in a word, harmful, considering that the products haven’t been proven to be safe or effective—and Kourtney’s latest one seems to have left her Instagram followers a little frustrated.

On Friday, Kourtney posted a photo to Instagram that features her in a gray Calvin Klein bra and underwear set. She’s holding up a water bottle with a thick, chocolate-y liquid inside of it, and behind her are two pink jars that, we can make out, read “shakes.”

“#ad Back from Aspen and back on the @flattummyco meal replacement shakes…they’re exactly what I need right now. Day 3 on the program and I’m already feeling good again. I’m starting to see my tummy toning up nicely. Chocolate is my favorite, but they’ve got 20% OFF all their flavors right now so you guys should check them out!” she captioned the post.

Needless to say, her followers weren’t super pleased: “Disgusting that anyone would promote this stuff – meal replacements are NOT the way to healthily obtain a toned look (if ?? that’s ?? what ?? you ?? want ??) Eat healthy and exercise is the only way!,” wrote @callapetra.

“I want to see you actually ingest this. As anal as you are about organic sand [sic] healthy food, you’ll still shill this? Shameful. Anything for a buck,” wrote @nosillamp.

Another follower called her out: “Lol liar. You need a pay check this bad? You don’t drink that trash and you know it!”

Kim, FWIW, was also shilling Flat Tummy Shakes this week.

Kourtney has a reputation for being super health-conscious, so it’s personally pretty disappointing to see her promoting these unregulated products. And considering that she’s admirably pushed Congress for stricter cosmetics regulations in the past, you’d think she’d be on board with stricter regulations for these often super-sketch diet products (that, let’s be honest, just tend to make you poop a lot).

No two individuals are the same when it comes to health or weight loss—and as a reminder, health professionals are far from convinced when it comes to the benefits of these shakes and teas. Let’s hope more well-thought-out #ad partnerships are part of the rest of the Kar-Jenners’ 2019 resolutions.

Why Women are Posting Photos of Their Leg Hair on Instagram for Januhairy

In recent years, more and more women have ditched their razors, buoyed in part by body hair-happy celebrities, beauty brands, and the rest of us alike taking a definitive stance on body hair. Rihanna posted a selfie showcasing her leg hair, while Billie became the first brand to actually show body hair in a razor ad. Whether they’re trying to make a statement or just no longer interested in being “perfectly groomed”—or maybe both—it’s working.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that 2019 is off to a similar start, as women have taken to social media to celebrate #Januhairy, a project that encourages women to grow out and share photos of their body hair for the month of January.

Started by student Laura Jackson, who first grew out her body hair for a school project, #Januhairy encourages women to accept and empower themselves while challenging the view that female body hair is abnormal and something to be ashamed of. It’s a fundraising effort, too: #Januhairy is also raising money for Body Gossip, a nonprofit that promotes education around body acceptance, by encouraging followers to sponsor women up to the task.

Jackson told the BBC News that she was inspired to start the hashtag after experiencing backlash after growing her own body hair out. “Though I felt liberated and more confident in myself, some people around me didn’t understand or agree with why I didn’t shave. I realized that there is still so much more for us to do to be able to accept one another fully and truly.”

As part of the project, Jackson is encouraging like-minded women to post photos of their progress on social media, too—all for the purpose of normalizing women in their natural state. In an Instagram post in which she recounts explaining her plan to her curious mother, Jackson points out: “Why should we be called lazy if we don’t want to shave? And why do we have to be proving a point?…If we do something [or] see the same things over and over again, it becomes normal.” And by filling feeds with photos of women with body hair, she aims to make it just that: Normal.

Demi Lovato Calls Out Horrifying Fat-Shaming Ad on Instagram

Demi Lovato has been slowly making her way back onto social media as she continues her recovery from an overdose back in July. But like the Lovato we’ve always known and loved, she’s not afraid to use her voice and platform to call out things she takes issue with—especially when it comes to body issues.

Today (January 4), she’s taking Instagram and the makers of a game called Game of Sultans to task for a rather horrifying ad that popped up in her feed. In the ad for the video, women are categorized as either “pretty” or “obese” with users apparently choosing what the women can eat—including a “controlled” diet of broccoli. “Why is this fat shaming bullsh*t on my feed?” Lovato asked in an Instagram Story. “So many things wrong with this ad.”

Um, yes. Yes there are.

PHOTO: Instagram/@ddlovato

She goes on to correctly point out that “you can be ‘pretty’ at any weight.”

PHOTO: Instagram/@ddlovato

“This is absolutely harmful to anyone who is easily influenced by societal pressures put on us by diet culture to constantly be losing weight in a world that teaches us to equate our value and worth with the way we look and especially anyone in recovery from an eating disorder,” she continued. “Especially when eating disorders are all about control.”

PHOTO: Instagram/@ddlovato

“So please Instagram, keep this bullsh*t off mine and others’ feeds who could easily be affected by this disgusting advertisement,” she wrote. “With how aware people are becoming of mental health and mental illnesses, I expect you guys to know better by allowing this advertisement to be allowed on your app. And shame on the game.”

PHOTO: Instagram/@ddlovato

It’s insane to me that this sort of game even exists, let alone that its distributor is allowed to advertise it on one of the largest social platforms in the world. The overt fat shaming is indeed incredibly harmful, as Lovato points out, and the categorization of women in this way is deeply reductive.

Many thanks to Demi for calling them out. Let’s hope this keeps other young women from being subjected to such a hurtful piece of media.
