The Schitt's Creek Series Finale Made People Very Emotional on Social Media

The rise of Schitt’s Creek as one of the most popular shows on television is very much a modern-day success story. While it had an original core audience after its American debut five years ago on the channel Pop, it became hugely popular once its first two seasons began streaming on Netflix in January 2017.

However and whenever you met the wonderfully wacky Rose family—Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis—and the many colorful residents of the titular town, you likely fell in love with them. I know I did. The show and its characters are highly meme-able and have become internet staples. And last night, April 7, fans bid an emotional farewell to it. (The final season is not yet streaming on Netflix.)

When we first met the Roses, they were incredibly out-of-touch rich people who suddenly found themselves penniless and living in a roadside motel in Schitt’s Creek, a town they’d purchased as a joke. But over the course of six seasons, the characters grew and evolved and became heartwarming, hilarious beacons of light, hopefulness, and acceptance. That made the finale even more heartfelt. While I’ll miss all the “Ew, Davids,” Moira’s weird pronunciations and wig collection, and Alexis’s perfect way of sliding a random fact from her past life into casual conversation, it’s the relationships I’ll miss most of all. As far as finales go, I think this one was pretty perfect—from Patrick and David’s wedding to the final goodbyes for the family. I’m still a weepy mess.

And I wasn’t alone, as many fans also worked out their feelings about the finale on social media:

Co-creator and star Dan Levy wrote a heartfelt note to the cast, crew, and fans ahead of the April 7th episode. “This show has been the love of my life for the past seven years,” he said. “Getting to tell these stories, build these characters, and watch them grow has been a privilege for which I will always be grateful.”

He continued, “As for our viewers, getting to share this show with you, getting to watch you champion it, tell your friends about it, herald its messages of love and acceptance with such empathy and passion… that is something I will never forget. The stories you have shared with me over the years have made me laugh and cry and feel empowered to keep making things that mean something…Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to watch our show. I am forever grateful for this time we had together. Here’s to many more stories and many more memories, whatever they may be.”

Until we (hopefully) meet again, Roses.

Queen Elizabeth II's Rare Address to the British Public Is Making People Emotional

Queen Elizabeth II just gave a rousing speech in response to the coronavirus pandemic, attempting to reassure U.K. residents with a rare, televised address to the nation. However, her words seemed to speak to everyone facing this difficult, unprecedented time.

“I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time,” the Queen said on Sunday. “A time of disruption in the life of our country; a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all.”

The Queen’s own son, Prince Charles, has been diagnosed with COVID-19 but is reportedly “on the other side” of the illness after only experiencing minor symptoms.

“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it,” the Queen also said in her address. “I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.”

Like Prince William and Kate Middleton, who visited first responders before beginning their self-isolation, the Queen made sure to thank those on the frontlines of this pandemic.

“I want to thank everyone on the NHS frontline, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all,” she said. “I’m sure the nation will join me in ensuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times.”

“I also want to thank those of you who are staying at home,” the Queen added, “thereby protecting to help the vulnerable and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones. Together we are tackling this disease and I want to reassure you that if we remain united in resolute then we will overcome it.”

She finished the speech in a particularly hopeful manner. “We can take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return,” she said. “We will be with our friends again. We will be with our families again. We will meet again.”

According to the BBC, this is only the fifth time in history that the 93-year-old Queen has addressed the nation outside of her annual Christmas greeting. She spoke from the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, allegedly chosen because it allowed for enough space between the monarch and her cameraperson, who wore protective gear. Watch the full speech, below:

Beyond the flood of positive comments on The Royal Family’s Instagram post, the Queen was trending on Twitter, with viewers from England and beyond feeling profoundly impacted by Queen Elizabeth II’s words. “It’s so very strange as an American to feel profoundly more encouraged and hopeful watching a rare address from Queen Elizabeth, an unelected monarch in a country halfway around the world, than I ever would from anything Trump has said in this crisis,” Charlotte Clymer tweeted. Here are some more reactions.

Long live the Queen, indeed.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Had an Emotional Goodbye With Their U.K. Staff

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry capped off what are believed to be their final engagements as working members of the royal family on Monday, March 9 at the Commonwealth Day services—alongside Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth.

The couple will soon embark on the latest chapter of their lives in North America, starting their new charitable entity and raising baby Archie. Because they will no longer be full-time working royals, their staff in the U.K. has been let go. But, according to Page Six, the Sussexes hosted a special celebration while they were in London to thank their team for all of their hard work.

The “festive” lunch was held at The Goring Hotel on Thursday, March 5. “Harry and Meghan have often done fun things like throwing pizza parties or hiring ice cream trucks for their staff, but they wanted to do something special going into this last week together,” their source said. “They toasted the team and thanked them for everything they have done. Some of the staffers cried.”

“They’ve all been through so much together, and the staff [has] been working around the clock to make sure this last visit was as seamless as possible,” the source continued. “Meghan and Harry really wanted to show their appreciation, they know how hard everyone has worked.”

The lunch for their staff wasn’t the only private event the Sussexes attended while in the U.K. On March 10, they posted previously unseen photos from a meeting they held with youth leaders in their roles as President and Vice President of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, where they are seen smiling and laughing.

Markle also visited the National Theatre, of which she is a royal patron.

What’s next for Meghan Markle and (Prince) Harry is a bit unknown at the moment. We have yet to hear all the details about the new charity organization they are forming, where exactly in North America they plan to live, or how they plan to make the money they’ll now be allowed to earn outside of the royal fold. But we can’t wait to find out.

Demi Lovato Describes the ‘Emotional’ Moment She Came Out to Her Parents

Demi Lovato’s triumphant return to public life continues, this time with a visit to Andy Cohen’s radio show, Radio Andy. Things got deep quick when the singer described the moment she came out to her parents as sexually fluid about three years ago.

Lovato, who just brought the house down at the Grammy Awards, was talking about having kids when the subject arose. The singer revealed she is hoping to start a family this decade but isn’t sure whether she wants to do it with a man or a woman.

“I’m still figuring it out,” she told Cohen. “I didn’t officially tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman until 2017.”

The conversation with her parents went well, she explained: “It was actually emotional but really beautiful. After everything was done, I was, like, shaking and crying. I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive.”

According to Lovato, it was her mother’s reaction she was most concerned with. “My mom was the one that I was super nervous about,” she said. “But she was like, ‘I just want you to be happy.’ And that was so beautiful and amazing. I’m so grateful.”

During her chat with the radio personality, Lovato also revealed that she considered putting her music career behind her after an overdose almost two years ago. “I think as time goes, on I’ll be able to give more details, but it was a general thought,” she said. “We didn’t know what was going to happen. We didn’t know how healthy I would be when I left. It was a scary time in my life for sure.”

After Lovato’s heart-wrenching performance at the Grammys, where she debuted her new song called “Anyone,” Selena Gomez spoke out on Instagram Stories to lend her support. “I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was,” she wrote over an image of the performance. “Demi I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery.”

Clearly, Lovato’s hordes of fans aren’t the only ones happy she is continuing to create music. And thankfully, we will all get to see her perform the national anthem on Superbowl Sunday.

This Pic of the Friends Cast the Night Before They Filmed the Finale Will Make You Emotional

Friends may be gone from Netflix, but it still holds a Central Perk-sized place in our hearts forevermore.

The show will be streaming again soon enough when HBO Max launches later this year, but until then we have some of the cast out here on Instagram sharing behind-the-scenes memories and reunion dinners.

The latest throwback comes from Courteney Cox, who posted a photo to commemorate the 16th anniversary of final episode taping. (It happened on January 23, 2004.) She also shared a shot of the final script’s cover. “‘The Last Supper’ before taping ‘The Last One’ on Jan. 23, 2004. #tbt #friends,” Cox wrote in the caption. All six main cast members—Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—are present, along with copious amounts of food and sodas.

Kudrow wrote in the comments section, “Awwww???,” while Aniston used emojis to express her feelings with a simple, “???.” Jennifer Meyer, the jewelry designer and a close friend of Aniston and Cox, spoke for all Friends fans when she commented, “Stop teasing us and make this shit happen again @courteneycoxofficial @jenniferaniston thx ?.”

A Friends reunion show (of the non-scripted variety) has been in the works at HBO Max with interest from the entire cast. “We would love for there to be something,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2019. “But we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.” Unfortunately, though, the project recently hit a snag. Last week, HBO Max chief creative officer Kevin Reilly told the Television Critics Association, according to Deadline, “There is interest all around and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it.” For now, he called the reunion “just a maybe.”

Consider all of our fingers crossed. In the meantime, we have Instagram posts like Cox’s to keep us warm.

Prince Harry Delivers Emotional Speech About Decision to Step Back From Royal Life

By now you’ve likely heard the news that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, are officially stepping back as senior members of the royal family. And, you’ve likely heard plenty of rumors as to why they made that decision. But now, Prince Harry is setting the record straight, calling their decision to step down the only option.

On Sunday, he addressed the crowd at a dinner in honor of the Sentebale charity in London. Harry started his speech by stating, “I want you to hear the truth from me—as much as I can share, not as a prince or a duke, but as Harry, the same person that many of you have watched grow up over the past 35 years, but now with a clearer perspective.”

He continued, “The U.K. is my home and a place that I love. That will never change. I have grown up feeling supported by so many of you, and I watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms, as you saw the love and happiness that I had hoped for all my life.” He added, with a slight chuckle, “Finally, the second son of Diana got hitched, hooray!”

In the speech, Harry explained that he and Meghan had the same values, beliefs, and hopes for the future and serving the queen. However, it quickly became apparent to the duo post-marriage that their life in the public eye would soon cause a strain that made it too hard to continue with life as-is.

“The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly,” he said. “It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is, we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.”

Harry then noted the couple hoped to continue their work serving the monarchy without the assistance of public funds, something the couple has been clear they would like to do in the future. “Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible,” he said. “I’ve accepted this knowing it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am, but I hope it helps you understand what it had come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.”

He closed his speech by stating he remains committed to his grandmother’s work, who he has the “utmost respect” for and “will continue to be the same man who holds his country dear and dedicates his life to supporting the causes, charities and military communities that are so important to me.”

“Together,” Harry said, “you have given me an education about living, and this role has taught me more about what is right and just than I could ever have imagined. We are taking a leap of faith, so thank you for giving me the courage to take this next step.”

Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan shocked the world by announcing their decision via social media.
