Ariel Winter Defends Her Right to Dress However She Wants in Instagram Clap Back

PHOTO: Dan MacMedan/Getty Images

Ariel Winter has become a queen of the body shamming clap back. But because Internet trolls never learn, another week has brought another round of criticism that Ariel is pushing back against.

Ariel took to Instagram to share her frustration that her everyday fashion choices are subject to so much scrutiny. In a post simply captioned “rant,” she wrote, “Something I wish people would realize…I am not trying to be featured on Snapchat, I am not trying to be pap’d everywhere I do, I am literally just living and unfortunately, I can’t do that without paparazzi following me around everyday. I’m not trying to show you my ass in shorts when I go to the grocery store. I’m trying to live my life. People wear shorts. People have wardrobe malfunctions. No one is perfect.”

The actress had tweeted earlier this month about her frustration that some saw her shorts as some kind of affront, instead of a reasonable solution for sweaty summer legs. Her most recent social media post on the issue, however, was spurred on by the response to a certain quote she gave in a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. Ariel explains in the interview that she was dressed in revealing clothing at an early age, and she felt sexualized as a result. She explained she’d wear, “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen. People thought I was 24 when I was 12. If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes.”

While critics have called her hypocritical for criticizing the fact she called out her mother for dressing her in miniskirts while she dresses herself in revealing clothing, Ariel rightly points out there’s a big difference between someone sexualizing a child and an adult woman deciding what to put on her body. She goes on to write in the Instagram post, “As a child, you do as you’re told regardless of what is good for you. I’m an adult now, who can make my own choices and have my own identity. And just because I decide to show my body occasionally doesn’t mean I’m unintelligent or that I’m talentless or that I have no self respect.”

Because trolls are immortal creatures whose only food source is manufactured drama, this likely won’t be the last time Ariel has to defend how she chooses to dress herself, but no doubt she’ll be ready when the time comes with another well-thought-out, completely valid comeback.

Selena Gomez Reveals She Had a Kidney Transplant In Emotional Instagram Post

PHOTO: Selena Gomez/Instagram

Selena Gomez had a busy summer—releasing new music, reportedly moving in with her boyfriend—but her fans may have noticed that the star wasn’t out in the public eye much despite having new songs to promote. This morning, Gomez revealed why: a few months ago, she received a kidney transplant, which she needed due to complications from lupus.

“I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering,” Gomez wrote on Instagram of her extended absence over the last few months. “It was what I needed to do for my overall health.” Gomez has been public about her battle with lupus, a disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own organs and tissues, since being diagnosed in 2014 and undergoing chemotherapy to treat it in 2015. An organ transplant is a major surgery, and the gravity wasn’t lost on Gomez, who also wrote: “I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.”

But the most incredible part of Gomez’s story has to be her donor, longtime friend Francia Raisa (that’s her in the photo, in the hospital with Gomez). “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

One of the most selfless and brave things a person can do is donate an organ, and it’s amazing to see Gomez publicly acknowledging that (with 2.1 million likes so far on the post, it seems Raisa is getting the recognition she deserves).

Gomez’s fans are already flooding the star with love and get-well-soon wishes, but as she writes herself, the best way to show her support is to get educated about lupus, a still-misunderstood disease.

To learn more, Gomez recommends checking out the Lupus Research Alliance.

Gal Gadot Just Shared the Funniest 'Wonder Woman' Bloopers on Instagram

PHOTO: ©Warner Bros/courtesy Everett Collection / Everett Collection

Diana Prince (a.k.a Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot) is very serious throughout the Wonder Woman film that dropped over the summer, and for good reason. She’s tasked with both defeating Ares and stopping the war outside Themyscira—not exactly chipper stuff. Still, there are funny moments in Wonder Woman mixed in with the many, many shots of Diana being a badass warrior.

But none of those scenes even compare to the silliness that took place behind-the-scenes on set. Gadot just posted a few Wonder Woman outtakes of herself and Chris Pine on Instagram over the weekend, and they’re hilarious. (I mean, they should be—bloopers are funny by definition.) The video is especially great, though, because it’s such a stark contrast to the no-nonsense Diana Prince we watched kick butt in the film.

It’s amazing: Even when they’re tripping, bumping into each other, and spilling ice cream all over their hands, Gadot and Pine are still two of the hottest people alive. Watching these two slam into each other while trying to fit into a door is a work of art, to be honest. In fact, they each deserve Oscars based on this blooper reel alone. Check it out for yourself, below:

“Okay, first, you can see why Chris’s nickname for me was giggle Gadot?,” Gadot captioned the video. “And how Patty and I could communicate with no words. Instead just weird sounds & head movements.. I LOVE to laugh and I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed filming every second of the movie about the Amazonian princess.”

Our only complaint? We wish we had more bloopers! It’s a good thing the Wonder Woman DVD comes out September 19. This is just a small teaser of the funnies to come.

The Weeknd Is the Perfect Instagram Husband for Selena Gomez

PHOTO: Karwai Tang/WireImage/Getty Images

With New York Fashion Week in full swing, celebs gathered to celebrate at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party Friday night. Buzzy stars walked the red carpet; Kendall Jenner wore a naked dress; and Selena Gomez and The Weeknd showed off just how in love they are (also proven by the adorable puppy they got together this week). But we’re not just judging by the official pics from the night: they also caught a cute moment on the ‘gram courtesy of The Weeknd being the best Instagram Husband like, ever.

Of course, the couple would go on to get cozy on the Icons red carpet—we all know they’re not exactly afraid of a little PDA. Remember their handsy Met Gala debut, where they stepped out as an official couple for the first time? They couldn’t keep their hands to themselves Friday night either, and frankly, it’s making us believe in love all over again.

Here’s the red carpet pics from the Icons party, with Selena looking every bit the ’60s siren:

And then there was this cute behind-the-scenes moment: check out The Weeknd in the mirror doing the time-honored Instagram Husband crouch-and-shoot with truly excellent form. (Selena looks so rock ‘n’ roll in his jacket, too.)

It’s definitely not the first time the two of them have obsessed over each other via social media. The Weeknd has been known to stalk Selena on Instagram, and Selena posted the sweetest Instagram story when her BF was on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Given their general level of cute, we’d say we can’t, but the truth is we can. Keep it up, you beautiful lovebirds.

Did Kim Kardashian Block the Snake Emoji From Her Instagram Account?

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to Sunday, July 17, 2016. It’s late. You’re about to crawl into bed and dream about work being canceled the next day, when all of a sudden your phone starts blowing up. “Kim exposed Taylor,” 19 people texted you simultaneously. What!? WTF does that mean? Exposed what? Exposed how? Were these people referring to Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift or just two random people named Kim and Taylor? So many questions, but you’re too tired to find the answers.

You begrudgingly log onto the Internet, and that’s when you see it: Kardashian’s lengthy Snapchat Story, which features her husband, Kanye West, and Swift having a detailed phone conversation about his song “Famous.” You’re immediately reminded of the drama that led to this phone conversation: Swift claimed she didn’t approve of West calling her a “bitch” on “Famous,” but both he and Kardashian said the opposite. According to them, Swift absolutely green-lit the lyric—and she was excited about the controversy.

Kardashian published this phone conversation to set the record straight, but it honestly didn’t confirm anything one way or the other. Yes, Swift and West talked about “Famous” during their chat, but not the “bitch” lyric specifically. All this proved was that Swift knew about the song in general, but not the details.

Of course, this didn’t stop the Internet from praising Kardashian for “exposing” Swift. The hashtag #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty quickly popped up on Twitter, and fans started spamming Swift’s account with the snake emoji to show their disdain.

Why the snake emoji? That’s what people were using at this time to bully Swift. This started happening after Swift’s ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris, went on a Twitter rant about her, but it really ramped up after the Kardashian drama.

But now Swift is fighting back. On Monday (August 21), she started dropping mysterious snake videos on her Instagram page. These clips led to the announcement of her new album, Reputation, which seems to be a clap-back to everyone who trolled her last year—including the people who called her a “snake.”

She’s officially reclaimed the snake emoji as a positive symbol, and her fans are living for this. They’ve reclaimed the emoji, too—but now they’re using it against Kardashian. Just look at this recent message Kardashian posted to Twitter; several Swift fans replied to it with—you guessed it—snake emojis.

Is this petty? Absolutely. Kardashian, though, still isn’t standing for it. According to BuzzFeed, the reality TV star has blocked the snake emoji from her Instagram page—which means people can’t use it in her comments section. A BuzzFeed staffer wrote the snake emoji on Kardashian’s page but then noticed it disappeared when he tried to view it from a different account. Interesting.

Apparently, this is a thing you can do. If you go to Instagram’s settings and select “comments,” you can set a filter that prevents certain phrases from appearing on your page—including emojis.

So…did Kardashian do this because of Swift? Maybe. Maybe not. It’s totally possible she’s just afraid of snakes now and doesn’t want to see them. They are snakes, after all.

Louise Linton Apologized for Insulting Someone on Instagram for Not Being As Rich As She Is

UPDATE: In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Louise Linton apologized for her now-deleted Instagram photo and commentary, calling her remarks “inappropriate.”

“I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response,” Linton said. “It was inappropriate and highly insensitive.”

In a typical presidential administration, the spouse of a cabinet member can manage to stay under the radar, remain out of the public eye, and maintain at least a semblance of pre-government life normalcy.

In the Trump administration, however, life is anything but typical: Just consider Louise Linton, a Scottish actress and the wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who caused some major public uproar on Monday after bragging about traveling on a government plane.

To set the scene, let’s revisit the Instagram post Linton shared on Monday (one that has since been made private). The couple was traveling to Kentucky so the Treasury secretary could drum up support for his proposed tax overhaul and Linton opted to share a photo marking the occasion. In the picture, Linton and Mnuchin are seen stepping off a government plane—her husband in a classic dark suit, Linton dressed in all-white, her blond hair cascading in the wind. “Great #daytrip to #Kentucky! #nicest #people #countryside,” Linton captioned the shot before making note of all the labels she was wearing: “#rolandmouret pants, #tomford sunnies, #hermesscarf #valentinorockstudheels #valentino #usa.”

Now, let’s be clear: There’s no issue with a person of considerable financial means choosing to spend their own money on designer clothing and accessories. And though The Washington Post reports that most Treasury secretaries use domestic carriers for trips within the United States, a Treasury Department spokesman confirmed that the plane was cleared by “appropriate government channels” and the Mnuchins paid for the cost of Linton’s travel. (He also added that Linton received no compensation from the brands she hashtagged.)

But what is truly off-putting is when someone in Linton’s position starts a comment war with other Instagrammers over her conspicuous displays of wealth. Wrote 45-year-old Jenni Miller: “Glad we could pay for your little getaway #deplorable.”

Linton, however, refused to ignore the critics and soon went off on this particular woman. In a lengthy—and condescending—post she wrote:

“Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable! Do you think
the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have
you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an
individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m
pretty sure we paid more sacrifices toward our day ‘trip’ than you
did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than
you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.”

(We can likely assume that one of those sacrifices was Mnuchin’s divestment of his financial interests in several film production companies, including the one behind this summer’s smash hit superhero movie, Wonder Woman.)

Linton concluded her diatribe by saying that Miller was “adorably out of touch,” telling her that her kids and her life looked “cute,” and recommending that she check out this week’s episode of Game of Thrones.

This, of course, isn’t the first time Linton’s faced a wave of backlash for some public remarks. In 2016, she self-published a memoir about her gap year in Zambia and described the experience as a “living nightmare.” But not only was Linton slammed for creating a “white savior” fantasy, her memoir was also riddled with inaccuracies (according to the website OkayAfrica, Linton’s work was “the dumbest, most egregious piece of writing on Africa of the 21st century.”). Ultimately, Linton’s book was removed from sales.

In an interview with The New York Times, Miller said she was stunned by Linton’s response and found the remarks “wholly inappropriate.”

“I think my post was just five or six words, and she had to go on basically a rant about it to make herself look more important and look smarter, better, richer—all those things,” she said.

“If she hadn’t made her account private, I would have written back with a very snide Marie Antoinette joke,” Miller added.
