Bernie Sanders Endorses Joe Biden for President: ‘We Need You in the White House’


Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) has endorsed former vice president Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for president. The announcement was made, of course, via livestream in a conversation broadcast on April 13.

Like soon-to-be in-laws meeting up over FaceTime to graciously divvy up speaking rights at the rehearsal dinner, Sanders and Biden got together online and streamed a (remote) conversation in which the Vermont senator—himself once a frontrunner for the nomination—endorsed his longtime rival for the 2020 presidential election.

Just days after dropping out of the 2020 race, Bernie Sanders surprised many by endorsing Biden, who is the presumptive Democratic nominee. “We must come together to defeat the most dangerous president in modern history,” Sanders tweeted just before going live. “I’m joining Joe Biden’s livestream with a special announcement.”

The two men shared a spirited but exceptionally friendly conversation about unions, health care, and government response to the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, leaning hard into their shared views. Biden trumpeted Sanders’s history of “fighting for health care and home care workers” and called Sanders “maybe the most powerful voice for a fair and more just America.”

Naturally, reactions have been mixed:

Sanders called for “all Americans to come together,” acknowledging his and Biden’s shared desire to keep Americans from going hungry or losing basic rights. “I know you’re the kind of guy who’s gonna be inclusive,” Sanders said. “We can argue it out—it’s called democracy. You believe in democracy and so do I.”

“We don’t have a choice, we’re going to have to come together,” Sanders said, veering out of a sidebar about whether the two men should start playing virtual board games. (This really did happen; watch the playback.)

“I very much look forward to working with you,” Sanders told Biden.

“So do I,” Biden said, grinning.

Miley Cyrus Cut Her Own Hair Into a Joe Exotic Mullet


Miley Cyrus is like so many of us during social isolation—bored and left to our own devices when it comes to our beauty and grooming regimens. From roots growing in to brows growing out, we’re all looking at ourselves in the mirror these days and thinking, “Sure, I can totally do the job I usually pay skilled professionals for…”

And the singer is no different. She revealed during her Instagram Live talk show Bright Minded that she attempted (operative word here) to cut her own bangs. Cyrus told reality star Kristin Cavallari and hairstylist Justin Anderson about how she combed all her hair forward from the back before starting to trim—which is generally not what a seasoned stylist would do. “Lucky for me, I’m not going to be seeing anyone,” she said, joking that she’s the one person who won’t be mad if the social distancing orders continue into June.

Anderson says this is definitely a “dangerous” time for Cyrus because, while she’s low-maintenance when it comes to styling her hair, she often wants little “tweaks” to her look. Considering she called another friend to drop off thinning shears in her mailbox, we’d have to agree.

Miley’s never been one to take beauty too seriously, though (remember when she let her mom cut her hair?), so she’s been a good sport about her quarantine cut. Fans have jumped in, too, and quickly started pointing out the similarities between Cyrus’s cut and Joe Exotic, the main subject of Netflix’s wildly popular documentary series, Tiger King.

“Miley Cyrus really out here looking like the Tiger King,” one fan tweeted. “Whyyy does Miley have the Joe Exotic cut????? Lmaoo Rolling on the floor laughing ,” another wrote. “All I’m saying is… have you ever seen Miley Cyrus and Tiger King in the same room together?” one person jokingly wondered.

While we wouldn’t necessarily copy Cyrus’s technique if your bangs need a trim, she is truly pulling off this look in a way only she can. Let’s just seriously hope the tattoo liner isn’t next.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas's Quarantine Life Sounds More Fun Than an Actual Party


Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are doing the right thing at the moment and staying home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But that doesn’t mean they’re not having loads of fun.

Turner joined Conan O’Brien on his late night show (virtually, natch) and let the world in on what life is like at the Turner-Jonas household. Turner, for one, is “kind of loving” being at home all day. “I’m an introvert, I’m a homebody,” she said. “If I could stay at home all day I would, so this is great for me. I leave my house like once a day to walk my dogs, and then that’s it.”

While she realizes it might be harder for some people to practice social distancing she said, “All you have to do is stay at home and get drunk at home.” When O’Brien replied that he hadn’t heard Dr. Anthony Fauci recommend that path during his press briefings, Turner joked, “Yeah, but you know he’s thinking it. You know he’s doing the same thing.”

She also showed off her sweatpants, paired with a lovely green sweater—a stark change from how stars usually dress for their talk show appearances. “I’m business on top, party on the bottom,” she said.

But what really sounds fun is the club Turner and Jonas seem to be running from their home. Turner says her husband has taken up performing DJ sets filled with 80s music, and she serves as the bartender. “He’s started doing that really, really loudly when I’m trying to read my scripts. He’s DJing at home,” Turner said. “But it’s fun! I pour him his drinks. I pour him his alcohol. I give him tequila shots. He’ll text me and be like, ‘What time is it?’ I’ll reply from the kitchen, ‘Shot time,’ and bring him a shot of tequila.”

“There’s no rules in quarantine,” she added. “It’s fun.”

We love the sound of that motto, as long as it’s all going down in a socially distanced and safe way.

Tiger King: Cardi B Wants to ‘Free’ Joe Exotic by Starting A GoFundMe


Everyone’s obsessed with Tiger King right now, especially Cardi B.

In fact, the rapper is very much team Joe Exotic after watching Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, the most-talked about new docuseries on Netflix.

The “Money” hitmaker has been serving up some amazing quarantine content, including her viewing of the bonkers seven-part series, which follows the story of the eccentric zoo-owner who was arrested and is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for two counts of murder for hire and other charges.

In a nutshell, Tiger King follows Joseph Maldonado-Passage (aka Joe Exotic), an unregulated zoo owner in rural Oklahoma, and the story of his epic feud with Carole Baskin, the founder of Big Cat Rescue and animal-rights activist. Then, in a wild turn of events, Maldonado-Passage ends up in jail for allegedly hiring an assassin to murder Baskin (don’t worry, she’s alive and well).

On Thursday night, March 27, Cardi live-tweeted her binge and revealed that she doesn’t believe Maldonado-Passage should be in jail, despite his conviction. The rapper said she’s planning to set up a GoFundMe account to free him from prison. “He shall be free,” she wrote on Twitter.

“They did Joe so dirty over and over again,” the rapper added.

Cardi also isn’t the biggest fan of Baskin, like many viewers who couldn’t really tell the difference between Big Cat Rescue and the zoos she rallies against. She even asked her followers to respond with their thoughts. “Who you think is more wrong,” she asked. “Narcissist joe? Or Greedy Carol? And why?”

Cardi is obviously not the only celebrity who’s obsessed with Tiger King. Everyone from Jared Leto to Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian cannot stop talking about the true-crime series. Leto even dressed up as Maldonado-Passage for his watch party and I’ll never recover.

Other stars, including Dax Shepard, hope to be cast in a future biopic or series based on Tiger King.

They may just get their chance. According to Deadline, Kate McKinnon is set to star and executive produce a limited TV series in development at UCP. Based on the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, the miniseries will follow Baskin (McKinnon) in her quest to take down Maldonado-Passage.

It sounds like the purrrfect casting if you ask me. Hopefully, Cardi will make a cameo appearance.

Joe Biden Commits to Picking a Woman as His Vice President


Much to the disappointment of activists and those who hoped to elect the first woman president, the Democratic race has narrowed down to two white men in their seventies—former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders.

But Biden made news at the latest CNN debate on March 15 with a new commitment to choose a woman as his vice president, if he wins the nomination. (Sanders came close, responding to the question with: “In all likelihood, I will.”)

While Biden has hinted in the past that he’d like to run with a woman, this was the first time he articulated it as a firm pledge. (He also reiterated his promise to nominate the first black woman to the Supreme Court.) “I commit that I will, in fact, appoint a woman to be vice president,” Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “There are a number of women qualified to be president tomorrow.”

A number of those women are, of course, Biden’s former competition. Senators Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren have all dropped out of the presidential contest, increasing the pressure on the men who remain to choose a woman for what some call the race’s “consolation prize.”

The women’s activist group Supermajority has circulated a petition calling on both Biden and Sanders to commit to a woman with them on the ticket. Hillary Clinton said she would “love” to see a woman in the position. But it is now official: If Joe Biden is the nominee, a woman will appear on the presidential ticket.

The news made instant waves on Twitter—a lone bit of unexpected news in a stressful time. “@ewarren @staceyabrams and @KamalaHarris please sleep next to your phones. Let’s go!” tweeted the investor Arlan Hamilton. Even former presidential candidate Andrew Yang weighed in, tweeting: “Wow Joe just committed to a woman as VP. I like it.” He went on to note in a follow-up tweet that Harris and Klobuchar are obvious choices to sit “at or near the top of the shortlist.” (Some were less positive, criticizing the pledge as a form of “tokenism” and comparing Biden’s spottier record on issues like abortion access and civil rights to Sanders’ more progressive positions.)

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Are Reportedly Expecting Their First Child Together


Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are expecting their first child together, sources tell Just Jared. Us Weekly has also reported on the news.

“Multiple sources” tell Just Jared that the couple has a baby on the way. “The couple is keeping things very hush hush but their friends and family are super excited for them,” one source said to Just Jared. “Sophie has decidedly been choosing outfits to wear on and off the carpet to accommodate her changing body.”

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas officially tied the knot in May 2019 in Las Vegas and had a second ceremony later that summer in France. “I was fully preparing myself to be single for the rest of my life,” Turner told Rolling Stone last year about meeting Jonas. “I think once you’ve found the right person, you just know. I feel like I’m much older a soul than I am in age. I feel like I’ve lived enough life to know. I’ve met enough guys to know—I’ve met enough girls to know. I don’t feel 22. I feel like 27, 28.”

She also spoke to Glamour U.K. about how happy Jonas makes her. “A lot of [my happiness now] is to do with being with a person I’ve fallen in love with, who loves me more than he loves himself, and who wants to see me find my own happiness,” she said. “That was probably the biggest thing that pushed me to find who I am and find my happiness in things other than acting.”

It’s been a busy few months for both Turner and Jonas. Sophie is coming off the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, plus her role in Dark Phoenix, while Joe reunited with the Jonas Brothers last year for a record and have plans to release another album this year.
