Twitter Is So Happy Idris Elba Is People's Sexiest Man Alive This Year and Not Blake Shelton

Idris Elba was (rightfully) named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive this year, the magazine announced on Tuesday (November 6). “I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’” Elba told People when he first heard he won the title. “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”

No one on Twitter was surprised, though. People have been campaigning for Elba to win Sexiest Man Alive for years now. Every time someone who wasn’t Idris Elba snagged the honor, it felt like the Internet let out a collective, “Why not Idris Elba?”

This was most apparent last year when People awarded country singer and Voice judge Blake Shelton with Sexiest Man Alive. People were…perplexed by that choice, to say the least. No shade to Shelton, who seems like a great guy, but Twitter just thought other dudes were more deserving of the tribute—dudes like, ya know, Idris Elba.

Now that he has the title, many feel like justice has been served, and they’re taking to Twitter to celebrate. Check out the reactions for yourself, below. Fair warning: There’s some playful jabbing at Shelton, but it’s all in good fun.

“My name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay?” Elba also told People. “I got picked on a little bit. But as soon as I could grow a mustache, I was the coolest kid on the block. Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers.”

Bonkers indeed. Congratulations, Idris. 2018 just got a little better.

Happy Thursday: Prince Harry Just a Kissed a Royal Fan

A woman named Lydia received quite the surprise yesterday (October 3) when Prince Harry gave her a royal kiss on the hand. Yup!

Here’s what happened: While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were on their official visit to Sussex, they did a meet-and-greet session with fans. When the couple got to Lydia—who the Daily Mail reports is an 80-year-old woman—she told Markle that she looked “so beautiful.” And then, Prince Harry swooped in to give her a peck on the hand.

Lydia replied by giggling and saying, “Oh thank you!” You can watch the full video, below:

Prince Harry and Lydia’s adorable moment wasn’t the only dose of royal PDA that fans got during the duke and duchess’s trip to their namesake Sussex. (This was the first trip they took to Sussex, by the way: a fact that’s delighted the Internet.) While chatting with and fist-bumping some school-age children, Markle gave Prince Harry a sweet back rub, likely returning the favor from the time he gave her an impromptu massage at the WellChild Awards in September. Their visit also involved a cute interaction between Prince Harry and a golden retriever. It’s like he’s trying to make us swoon, ya know?

The royal couple is reportedly planning to take their first ever trip to the United States next year. They have no official plans on the books just yet—insiders claim they’re looking at New York, D.C., California, and Canada as potential destinations.

Cole Sprouse Wishes His 'Love' Lili Reinhart Happy Birthday With an Artistic Topless Photo

I think it’s safe to say that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are dating. The two Riverdale stars kept their rumored relationship tight-lipped for months, but after making their red-carpet debut at this year’s Met Gala, they’ve been more relaxed when it comes to talking and posting about each other on social media. If you want proof of this, look no further than Sprouse’s birthday message to Reinhart (she turns 22 today), which features a topless photo of her.

“Both the birthday and the gift. My little muse, happy birthday my love,” Sprouse wrote in an Instagram caption on Thursday (September 13). Alongside it is a grainy photo of Reinhart staring into a mirror. Check out the post for yourself, below:

Reinhart posted an equally-as-sweet post for Sprouse on August 4 (his birthday). “It seems as if the world would still be a stranger to me, if not for you. I’m so thankful that our paths intertwined to form this beautiful adventure~Happy birthday, my love,” she wrote on Instagram, adding a photo of Sprouse in a white tank top and shorts.

News that Reinhart and Sprouse were an item first broke last summer, but neither commented on it for the longest time. In fact, Reinhart wrote a Tumblr post last October criticizing the way fans and the media pick apart her personal life.

“It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote. “If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety…please reevaluate your priorities.”

If anything, it seems the two of them are no longer afraid to share their affection for one another. Happy birthday, Lili!

Selena Gomez Just Topped Her Own Instagram Record, and All It Took Was a Happy Hour

If you’re an avid Instagram user, there’s a very good chance you’re one of the 142 million people who follow Selena Gomez. And if you’re among that group—comprising approximately 2 percent of the entire world’s population—there’s also a pretty good chance you double-tapped one of Gomez’s recent posts, which, in less than a week, has become her most-liked photo ever.

The post in question appeared late Saturday night (September 8). It’s a slideshow of two photos showing Gomez first posing with and then actually drinking a bright red cocktail. She wears a simple black strapless tube top and silver hoop earrings, and her long brown hair is slicked back into a high ponytail. As of press time, the captionless post had garnered nearly 10.7 million likes, thus securing the 13th spot on the list of most-liked IG posts, Harper’s Bazaar reports.

In doing so, the photos knock one of Gomez’s other posts down a peg. The previous record-holder for Gomez’s most-liked pic was a shot she posted almost exactly a year ago that showed her and close friend Francia Raísa holding hands across hospital beds. In the caption, Gomez explained she had undergone a kidney transplant and Raísa served as her donor. With just over 10.6 million likes, that sentimental shot now falls about 27,000 short of Gomez’s latest record-setting upload.

“I don’t have my password for Instagram. I have no apps on my phone, no photo editing apps. I have Peak, a brain game,” Gomez told ELLE for its October 2018 issue. “The reason why is, it’s not real to me. I know my voice is very prominent, but I’m not careless with it. I’m selective. As far as my personal life, someone sees me having a glass of wine? I could give two shits. I’m not trying to hide. That’s my life. I’m living it the way I want to live it. But it’s about making a conscious effort—if I can have a moment to be with my friends, I’ll take that time. So I don’t have any of it. I had to make that decision.”

Meghan Markle Reportedly Sent Thank-You Notes to All Who Wished Her a Happy Birthday

Meghan Markle may still be brushing up on the finer points of royal protocol, but it seems she’s got thank-you note etiquette down pat. On Tuesday, royal commentator Omid Scobie shared a photo on Twitter of the cards that the Duchess of Sussex reportedly sent to all who wished her a happy birthday last month.

Though Scobie didn’t share an inside look at the card, the outside features a color photograph of Meghan flashing a huge grin while greeting an excited group of well-wishers during a royal engagement with Prince Harry, who can be seen standing next to her in the photo. The cards were reportedly signed, sealed, and sent just over a month after Meghan’s 37th birthday, on August 4, placing her on the prompt end of the recommended one- to three-month time frame for sending thank-you notes after a birthday or wedding.

Take a look:

But Meghan’s big day wasn’t actually all about her. On August 4, she and Harry attended the wedding of his longtime friend Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks. The ceremony took place in a chapel in the village of Churt in Surrey, just southwest of London. For the sunny summer wedding, Meghan wore a navy Club Monaco dress and a matching fascinator, while her husband coordinated by pairing a royal blue vest and light blue tie with his traditional morning coat and gray striped trousers.

Though Meghan was undoubtedly showered with gifts once she and Harry returned to the palace, she reportedly wasn’t allowed to keep many of them. Per royal guidelines, members of the royal family aren’t allowed to accept from the public any gifts that come with strings attached or monetary offerings that aren’t directed toward a charity. They can, however, keep benign items like flowers, food, and books, or anything else that costs less than £150 ($195). So, if you sent your fave royal a B-day gift that abides by those guidelines, there’s a good chance you’ll be getting a thank-you note in return.

Clinique Is Revamping Its Iconic Happy Perfume

Growing up, if the radio was on and my parents had any say in it, the oldies station would be playing. I heard Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is a Place On Earth” countless times. But despite how accurately I can still screech it at a moment’s notice, the concept didn’t sink in until I walked into my suburban town’s Nordstrom and saw the beauty department. The sense of joy and freedom was incredible, and Clinique’s Happy perfume was a fitting floor institution. That time has passed, but with Clinique’s revamp of its Happy fragrance line, the brand is striving to recapture the essence of feeling good.

Which, let’s be real, isn’t easy. My happiness smells like walking past an apartment building’s laundry room, warm pavement after it rains, and late-night cookies right out of the oven. The second a brand bottles that I’ll know the tracking algorithms have grown too powerful. Instead, Clinique took a methodical approach. It polled millions of shoppers across the world for the scents that made them feel happy, and came up with the collected themes of baked goods (true), nature, flowers, tea, and the beach.

If that sounds like an accurate summary of your Instagram feed, first, congratulations on escaping wedding season. Second, that’s no coincidence: People told the brand that they find happiness in instances that feel close and primal, in the little moments they’ve always valued. Unsurprisingly, the brand found that those are also what people often share on social media. It’s kind of a “no duh” idea, but also something that other brands haven’t tried yet, so props to Clinique.

The new line comes in six $22 scents based around the themes above, the variations of which are most fun to read with their Insta equivalent in parentheses. There’s Peace & Jasmine (tea with a caption about brief reprieves on a hectic day); Blue Sky Neroli (a wide-open field); Peony Picnic (peony season or a cheese spread in the park); Cocoa & Cashmere (the only good thing about winter is carbs and blankets); and Lily Of the Beach (surf, sand, piña colada).

And then there’s the original Happy, which has now been poured into a slim vial and re-dubbed Happy Splash, though the original is still available. A citrus and floral mix that launched in 1997, the brand says it released the OG as an antidote to nineties angst, because grunge’s pessimism was no longer doing the trick. Optimism, though? People were into it. With today’s news similarly dismal, Clinique is betting another moment of “hope springs eternal” is necessary. Whether it’s on the mark is hard to say, but the rainbow of bright bottles is trying, and that’s the most we can do.
