Harvey Weinstein Claims He's a ‘Forgotten Man’ in New Interview

Harvey Weinstein is still in the middle of criminal proceedings on sexual assault charges, is soon due back in court, and has reached a tentative $25 million settlement with some of his accusers (which insurance will cover), but he still thinks he’s a victim in this situation.

The disgraced former movie mogul whom dozens of women have accused of sexual misconduct seems to be looking for sympathy in a new interview with the New York Post. Oh, and he would also like credit for all the work he did for women.

“I feel like the forgotten man,” he said. “I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker, and I’m talking about 30 years ago. I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it! It all got eviscerated because of what happened,” Weinstein said. “My work has been forgotten.”

Never mind that “what happened” was a whole lot of alleged abuse.

“I want this city to recognize who I was instead of what I’ve become,” he continued. Weinstein used a few examples from his past to try to make his point. “Gwyneth Paltrow in 2003 got $10 million to make a movie called View from the Top,” he said. “She was the highest-paid female actor in an independent film. Higher-paid than all the men.” He also cited “social issues” taken on in movies from his companies, Miramax and The Weinstein Company. “I understood the celebratory nature of the film [Paris Is Burning] and bought the distribution rights,” he said. “The same thing is true for Transamerica [for] which Felicity Huffman got an Academy Award.” (Huffman was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 2006, but did not win.)

In response to Weinstein’s interview, 23 women—including Judd, McGowan, and Rosanna Arquette—released the following statement to USA Today.

“Harvey Weinstein is trying to gaslight society again. He says in a new interview he doesn’t want to be forgotten. Well, he won’t be. He will be remembered as a sexual predator and an unrepentant abuser who took everything and deserves nothing,” The Silence Breakers said. “He will be remembered by the collective will of countless women who stood up and said enough. We refuse to let this predator rewrite his legacy of abuse.”

Demi Lovato Just Responded to Claims She Shaded Taylor Swift by Skipping the VMAs

Demi Lovato was noticeably absent from the MTV VMAs on Monday, August 26, and when she wrote on Instagram that she skipped the awards ceremony “for a reason,” speculation began almost immediately. People started wondering if the message was a subtle dig at Taylor Swift, who opened the show and went on to win three awards. But Lovato stopped the rumor mill in its tracks with a follow-up story that instructed everyone to “stop reaching.”

Lovato revealed this morning that she was a no-show at the ceremony because she nabbed an exciting role on the final season of Will & Grace. After sharing the news, she was quick to dispel accusations that her original comment was directed at Swift. “Btw.. I didn’t ‘shade’ anyone last night. My REASON for not going is because I’m literally living my dream being on Will & Grace rn so stop reaching thaaaaannnnkkssss,” she wrote in one of her stories.

Fans may have started jumping to conclusions because Swift and Lovato do have somewhat of a fraught relationship. In 2016, Lovato seemingly knocked Swift’s early brand of feminism to Glamour, saying, “Don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work.”

Instagram

Lovato continued in that same interview, “To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.” (Swift famously had a “squad” of girlfriends a few years back.)

Things seemed to get tense again when the whole Swift-Scooter Braun drama went down earlier this summer. Lovato, who is Braun’s client, said on social media, ““I have dealt with bad people in the industry and Scooter is not one of them. He’s a good man.”

Still, despite what their past issues have been, Demi Lovato doesn’t want words put in her mouth. It sounds like she wants to spend her time celebrating her Will & Grace moment instead of entertaining gossip.

*The Bachelorette*'s Peter Weber Addresses Claims He Dumped His Ex to Go on the Show

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: This has been one dramatic season of The Bachelorette. Guys have abruptly left the show, others have been accused of cheating on their girlfriends back home, and one guy repeatedly slut-shamed Hannah Brown. Even Peter Weber—the pilot and early fan favorite—had to face claims that he’d abruptly dumped his former girlfriend for a chance on the show.

He’s striking back at those rumors, though. He spoke exclusively to People magazine and addressed several comments that his former girlfriend, model Calee Lutes, made. Lutes alleged that the two of them were serious and even thinking about moving in together when he dumped her to go on television.

“There was a lot of truth to what she said in her story, but there is also a lot of truth that wasn’t mentioned,” Weber told People. “The show had absolutely nothing to do with me ending that relationship.”

According to Lutes, she and Weber dated for six months and broke up around Christmas of last year. She was looking on his Instagram for clues about why he dumped her when she noticed that a producer from The Bachelorette had started following him.

“He absolutely betrayed me,” she said. “He interviewed for a reality dating show while simultaneously planning a future with me. I trusted him entirely and he pulled the rug out from under me.”

Weber said that the timing and the reasons behind the breakup were different than what Lutes has stated. “I was very serious in trying to progress that relationship and move it forward,” he explained. “And she wasn’t on the same page as me. That being said, I wasn’t going to waste her time or my time. But the casting process and my first interview was months after we broke up.”

Lutes has not responded to Weber’s rebuttal.

Salma Hayek: Harvey Weinstein Dismissed My Harassment Claims Because Women of Color Are 'the Easiest to Discredit'

In the wake of an explosive report in The New York Times outlining numerous sexual harassment and abuse allegations against film industry titan Harvey Weinstein, Salma Hayek wrote an op-ed for The Times in which she accused Weinstein of sexual harassment during the making of the 2002 film “Frida.” (Hayek starred as the title character.) She also said that Weinstein had threatened to kill her.

Weinstein’s lawyers denied the claims made by Hayek, stating: “All of the sexual allegations as portrayed by Salma are not accurate and others who witnessed the events have a different account of what transpired.”

Weinstein’s team has been dismissive of other claims—for example, when actress Lupita Nyong’o came forward with sexual harassment allegations of her own against the Hollywood producer.

While the two incidents may have appeared to be isolated, at the Women In Motion panel at Cannes on Sunday, May 13, Hayek argued that Weinstein had been especially dismissive of allegations made by herself and Nyong’o because they are both women of color.

“We are the easiest to get discredited,” she said, according to Variety. “It is a well-known fact. So he went back, attacking the two women of color, in hopes that if he could discredit us.”

Hayek’s candidness surrounding Weinstein’s actions wasn’t the only form of protest exercised at the film festival this past weekend. On Saturday evening (May 12), 82 women, including Hayek, silently protested the significant gender imbalance present at Cannes. The 82 women in attendance were a symbolic representation of the 82 female directors who have screened at the festival since its first edition in 1946.

“On these steps today stand 82 women representing the number of female directors who have climbed these stairs since the first edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946,” actress Cate Blanchett, this year’s competition jury president, and Belgian film director Agnès Varda said in a joint statement. “In the same period 1,688 male directors have climbed these very same stairs. In the 71 years of this world-renowned festival there have been 12 female heads of its juries. The prestigious Palme d’Or has been bestowed upon 71 male directors—too numerous to mention by name—but only two women, Jane Campion, who is with us in spirit, and Agnès Varda, who stands with us today.”

While protests like this one, coupled with the rising resilience of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements, are making some traction, Hayek warned in the Cannes panel against complacency in Hollywood and beyond: “Now is the time for action.”

A New 'Riverdale' Fan Theory Claims This Surprising Character Is Black Hood

This season, Riverdale has us wondering who the heck the serial killer Black Hood is. We’re approaching episode six now, and the creators are still stringing us along episode after episode. But a new Reddit theory has us convinced the killer is closer to the core crew than we originally thought. According to Redditor Kvelynm, who posted their theory on Sunday, there are two major clues that Kevin is the man underneath the mysterious Black Hood. Buckle in and get ready for some chills.

The first hint is that the serial killer’s most notable attribute is the fact that he’s obsessed with Betty. If you recall earlier on in the season, Kevin and Betty had a big blowout of a fight when she stalked him in the woods with Cheryl Blossom to try to stop his cruising in the shady woods—and then she promptly told his sheriff dad.

The next most important clue is that Black Hood doesn’t like sharing Betty with other people. Hence why he manipulated her into cutting ties with the new girl in town, Veronica Lodge, and her new love interest, Jughead Jones, both of whom Betty’s been focusing on. Kevin used to be Betty’s right-hand man (aside from Archie Andrews, of course) before Season 1, when Veronica moved to Riverdale from New York, and she had romantic feelings for Jughead. If Kevin is indeed Black Hood, maybe his reasoning for targeting her would be that he’s spending less time with Betty now that she has new friends.

There’s another tiny detail, too: According to the comic, Kevin and Betty have been best friends since kindergarten. The fact that these two friends go way back would also explain how Black Hood knew Betty would know the Nancy Drew mystery book from two episodes ago—as well as give some logic to his assumption that Betty would share her woes of manipulation with her beloved Archie Andrews.

Of course, the theory isn’t perfect: Although it makes sense in terms of Betty’s plotline, it doesn’t hold up when it comes to Kevin’s motivations behind the other random killings around Riverdale (RIP Miss Grundy!). And he was supposedly cruising for those guys while the Black Hood was striking (or was he?!). We’ll just have to keep watching.
