Meghan Markle Reportedly Took a Secret Birthday Trip With Prince Harry and Baby Archie

Meghan Markle turned 38 on August 4, and people have been speculating non-stop about what she did for her birthday. At first, reports suggested the duchess took things pretty easy. She was said to have hung out at home with family and a lovely cake from Luminary Bakery, a shop that hires underserved women in London. (Markle mentioned them in the issue of Vogue she edited.) However, now the tabloids are suggesting Markle’s birthday was a little more involved; sources say she secretly jetted off to Ibiza wth Prince Harry and Baby Archie.

Both Hello! and The Mirror claim that Markle and her family took off on a private jet on August 6 and spent time in a “secluded villa,” heavily watched over by a security team and local escorts. The rumors are based on sightings covered in Spanish media outlets, who first reported that the trio was in the country for a six-day trip. Buckingham Palace did not comment on whether or not the trip actually happened.

Still, it seems like it might have. As Hello! pointed out, Markle has traveled to Ibiza before, in 2016, and there are a few photos from that trip floating around the Internet. Plus, she’s had a lot going on lately, between Vogue, her newly-announced workwear line for charity, and her new mom duties. So it could be that she just needed a mini vacation.

The only confirmed birthday detail people have is the sweet note that Prince Harry left her on their joint Instagram account. “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!’ – Love, H,” he wrote in a caption. For anyone still dying to know exactly how Meghan Markle celebrates her birthdays, there’s a simple solution: Just get an invite to her bash next year.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte Are Reportedly as Obsessed With Baby Archie as We Are

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor may be one of the most famous babies in the world—his parents are out here sharing his milestones with the likes of Beyoncé and Jay-Z—but to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, he’s simply their adorable little cousin.

Us Weekly reports that George and Charlotte are especially taken with the newest member of the royal family. “They dote on him,” a source told the magazine. “Charlotte treats Meghan and Harry’s son like a little doll and is always asking after him.”

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle recently took all the kids to watch their fathers, Prince William and Prince Harry, play in a celebrity polo match—and from the photos, it looks like a good time was had by all. Even Prince Louis got in on the action, playing with his mom’s sunglasses and making faces for Aunt Meghan and Archie.

Us Weekly also reports that George, who will turn 6 on July 22, and Charlotte, 4, also include their little brother in playtime. But it sounds like Charlotte may be running the show. “Charlotte’s a bit of a tomboy and loves climbing and sports,” their source said. “Although Charlotte’s much bossier than George, she looks up to him. They squabble over small things like toys, but the majority of the time they get along.”

Recent reports indicate that the splitting of the royal households has eased whatever tension might have been present between the Cambridges and the Sussexes. Middleton and Markle, who have been the subject of many a tabloid headline about a “royal feud” are apparently getting closer, too. “They’re each a little more relaxed,” a source says. “They have more in common now.”

It’s not surprising, then, that the royal cousins are also bonding. Harry and William are famously tight with their own cousins—Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie. After all, who else could truly understand what growing up in the royal spotlight is actually like?

Prince Harry Revealed a Major Milestone About Baby Archie to Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Much like his father, Prince Harry, baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is going to have much of his young life documented by the public. Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s desire to keep his life as normal as possible, he’s still a royal, after all.

One perk, though? Sometimes Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be the first (outside of family and friends, natch) to learn about him reaching new milestones—like holding up his baby head.

In case you missed it, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met Bey and Jay at the London premiere of The Lion King and shared a few sweet moments (and hugs) while discussing their children. Per People, Beyoncé told Markle that Archie was “so beautiful” before hearing about the baby’s big moment from Prince Harry.

The prince reenacted his son stretching his neck and holding his head straighter, to which Beyoncé replied, “He’s holding his neck up?” Prince Harry then showed off how he claps and cheers for his son and revealed that Archie is “not so little anymore.”

It’s a nice reminder that no matter how famous their parents are, babies are just babies—growing and changing every day. And those famous parents are going to celebrate those milestones just like the rest of us, even if they also get to hang with Beyoncé. People also reported that Beyoncé and Jay-Z left their twins, Rumi and Sir, at home for the Lion King premiere. “They are not here. They don’t come on every trip,” Beyoncé said. “We left them at home. They would loved to have been here.”

Perhaps they were following Jay-Z’s reported wise words for the Sussexes: “The best advice I can give you, always find some time for yourself.”

It’s not clear when the public will get its next glimpse at baby Archie. Perhaps another polo outing for the family? Or it might not be until Markle and Harry’s royal tour in Africa this fall. Either way, we can’t wait for more adorable photos.

Everything We Know About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s First Royal Tour With Archie

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have kept a relatively low profile since welcoming their son, Archie, in early May. Yes, they did a photo call with Archie shortly after his birth and appeared at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June. Besides that, they’ve been MIA. But they’ll soon be making their grand return to the public eye—as a family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on their Instagram page Thursday, June 27, that they’ll be completing a royal tour of Southern Africa come fall. And get this: They’re bringing baby Archie along with them.

“TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are excited to announce that they have been asked to carry out a tour to Southern Africa this autumn,” the official @SussexRoyal Instagram post reads. “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have requested a visit to South Africa ?? as well as The Duke carrying out visits to Malawi ?? and Angola ??. His Royal Highness will also do a short working visit to Botswana ?? on route to the other countries.”

It continues, “The Duke and Duchess are really looking forward to meeting so many of you on the ground and continuing to raise awareness of the high impact work local communities are doing across the commonwealth and beyond. This will be their first official tour as a family!”

See the announcement for yourself, below:

Details about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s upcoming family tour are sparse. Save from this announcement, we don’t know much about what to expect. But we’re compiling all the details as they come so you can stay up to date on the trip. Here’s everything we know so far:

When it’s happening: Fall 2019

Where it’s happening: South Africa, Malawi, and Angola.

Who’s coming: Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, their son Archie, and, presumably, those who work on their team.

Why this trip: According to People magazine, Prince Harry plans to work on his Sentebale charity while in Malawi, which works to support people affected by HIV/AIDS.

How it was announced: The British High Commissioner to South Africa, Nigel Casey, broke the news. “They are going to be coming back to visit us in South Africa this autumn,” he said. “That’s great news for us. I predict it’s also good news for the South African economy, because I predict a hat and frock buying frenzy to rival even SONA [the country’s State of the Nation Address, which took place last Thursday], which could well restore economic growth all on its own.”

What Archie’s coming means: According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, Archie will be the youngest baby to go on a royal tour if he jets off to South Africa with his parents. “William traveled first when he was nine months old, and George when he was eight [months old], so the precedents are there, not that a couple as independent as Harry and Meghan need precedents,” Fitzwilliams told Insider.

What Africa means to Prince Harry and Markle: “Africa, Botswana in particular, has always been a very special place to Harry,” a royal expert named Katie Nicholl also told Insider. “He calls it his spiritual home and it’s where he and Meghan fell in love, so I think it’s probably high up on the couple’s wish list.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Shared a Brand-New Photo of Baby Archie for Father's Day

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is only just coming up on six weeks old, but he’s already endeared himself to pretty much everyone—to the point where there were stories only 11 days after his birth about the precocious infant repairing the alleged Sussex-Cambridge rift. And because the royals know that no one can turn down an adorable pic of Baby Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to gift us on Sunday (June 16) with a new photo of him in honor of Father’s Day—a milestone one for them, as it’s Harry’s first.

The photo, which was posted to the @sussexroyal Instagram account, shows little Archie in Prince Harry’s arms. “Happy Father’s Day!” the caption read. “And wishing a very special first Father’s Day to The Duke of Sussex.”

It’s the first close-up shot of Archie’s little face, reports Metro, and suffice it to say: He’s adorable. Check out those little fingers wrapping around Harry’s hand:

In May, Meghan and Harry shared a photo of Archie for Mother’s Day that featured his baby toes against a background of blue forget-me-nots—the favorite flower of his grandmother, Princess Diana.

The Sussexes aren’t the only ones marking the family’s first Father’s Day, either: A group of Prince Harry’s fans have thrown him a virtual baby shower. Like #GlobalBabySussexShower, which raised money for some of the royals’ favorite charities in honor of Archie’s impending birth, this round of fans’ spirited fundraising—dubbed #HappyFathersDayPrinceHarry—will benefit some of the charitable causes Harry supports.

It’s pretty cool that the new parents could celebrate both Mother’s and Father’s Day so soon after their little one’s birth. Happy Father’s Day, Harry!

We All Totally Missed Baby Archie at Trooping the Colour This Weekend

Meghan Markle made her first appearance since giving birth to baby Archie this past weekend, at Queen Elizabeth II’s annual Trooping the Colour ceremony. Those who tuned in assumed she and Prince Harry had left Archie at home, but it turns out he was at the event too—just not on the balcony.

“Archie was at Trooping the Colour,” a source tells Us Weekly. “[It] was a chance for him to meet some of his cousins.”

The insider continued, “The reason Harry and Meghan didn’t appear on the balcony when the queen returned back to Buckingham Palace was because she was breastfeeding.”

Markle was all smiles at the event, but this source tells Us that leaving Archie—even for that short period of time—was hard for her. “She has spent almost every moment with him and saying goodbye was very difficult,” they say. “But Meghan truly wanted to be at the celebration for the queen…. Meghan loved seeing all the other royal children and was doting on them.”

Prince Harry has similar feelings about being away from Archie. A second source tells Us it was hard for the Duke of Sussex to go to Italy in May for an overnight engagement: “Harry left for Italy and it was very difficult for him to leave Archie and Meghan. He wants to spend every second he can with them.”

Baby Archie was first introduced to the world on Wednesday, May 8, during a photo call. Both Markle and Prince Harry gave short interviews about their new lives as parents.

“It’s been great. Parenting is amazing,” Prince Harry told reporters. “It has only been, what, two and a half, three days…. We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.”
