Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Released Their First Family Christmas Card—Starring Baby Archie

We interrupt your holiday plans to share that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s family Christmas card has finally arrived.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s latest Christmas memento was shared via Twitter on Monday afternoon by the royal charity Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle serve as the President and Vice President. On the digital card, the couple sits casually in front of a Christmas tree, while baby Archie crawls toward the camera. “Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year, from our family to yours!” it says in twinkling gold writing. Take a look:

This year’s card included a personal detail for Markle. Per People, the photo was taken by the 38-year-old’s close friend Janina Gavankar. The Morning Show actor has been friends with Markle since her Suits days and was among hundreds of guests who attended the royal wedding in May 2018.

Markle and Prince Harry reportedly went the digital route for the card for an important reason: A source told Harper’s Bazaar they wanted their greeting to be environmentally friendly. As royal fans know, Markle is a huge proponent of sustainable and eco-conscious fashion. The source also said their card was only sent to friends and family, as well as the patronages and charities they work with.

Monday’s digital greeting is the second Christmas card the couple have released together. Last year, the pair sent their holiday wishes with a never-before-seen photo from their May 2018 wedding. The stunning shot showed the pair watching fireworks at their reception.

When will we next catch a glimpse of the royal family’s Sussex branch? Not for a while. Royal officials revealed that the royal pair would be spending Christmas in Canada this year. The family’s staying there as part of a six week break from royal engagements.

Meghan Markle Just Revealed Her Nickname for Baby Archie

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s current 10-day tour of southern Africa has given fans a chance to see them in a more personal light. And that includes, much to the delight of the internet, several moments with baby Archie, who joined his royal parents on the excursion.

On Wednesday, September 25, Markle brought Archie to his first royal engagement and revealed a nickname she has for him. According to People, the Duchess of Sussex was holding Archie during a visit with South African human rights activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu and cooed, “Say hello! Hello, hi.” Archie had a little bit of dribble spilling down his chin, and when Markle noticed it, she laughed, “Oh, Bubba!” She’s heard using the same nickname again in another video posted on the joint Sussex Instagram account. That same video also included a moment when Prince Harry whispers to the baby, “You’re going to meet Arch, Arch!”

The couple shared a few other images of their meeting with Desmond Tutu, and captioned one, “Arch meets Archie!”

“This morning The Duke and Duchess were honoured to introduce their son Archie, to Archbishop, Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Thandeka,” the caption continues. “The Archbishop, a globally respected figure in anti-apartheid movement, is one of the world’s great champions of equality, and has spent his life tirelessly battling injustice.”

Even though it’s Archie’s very first royal tour, both his parents noted that he’s relaxed and natural in front of all the cameras. Harper’s Bazaar reports that while they were having their picture taken, Prince Harry said to the cameras, “I think [Archie’s] used to it already.” Markle reportedly added, “He’s an old soul.” It looks like this whole public figure thing is coming pretty natural to him.

Fingers crossed more cute moments with baby Archie are coming on this tour soon.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Brought Archie to His First Official Royal Engagement

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, welcome to the family business. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle brought their son to his first royal engagement today, September 25, in South Africa—and what a momentous one it was. While we knew the littlest royal joined his parents on the royal tour to Africa, it wasn’t known if or when he would make an official appearance. But today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex brought the almost five-month-old to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Thandeka. Per the Sussex Royal Instagram, the royals are meeting to learn more about the work of The Tutu and Leah Legacy Foundation.

Archie sightings have been fairly scarce since his birth in May, as Meghan and Harry have made it clear that they are trying to maintain as normal and private a life for their son as they can, given their positions. We first met him a few days after he was born and then have been left to a few photos on their Instagram and the official christening images.

But, oh how he’s grown over the past few months—and we’ve also got video of the adorable little guy his parents appear to call “Arch.” (And who doesn’t love baby giggles?)

Meghan Markle Just Shared a Never-Before-Seen Photo of Baby Archie on Instagram

On Sunday, September 15, Meghan Markle celebrated her husband’s birthday just like any other social-media-savvy partner: by posting a tribute to Instagram.

In honor of Prince Harry’s 35th birthday, Meghan took over the couple’s @sussexroyal Instagram account. There, she shared a collage of images of the prince throughout his life, including one with little Archie from the baby’s christening earlier this year. She also wrote a heartfelt caption to accompany the post.

“Your service to the causes you care so deeply for inspires me every day,” Markle wrote. “You are the best husband and most amazing dad to our son. We love you. Happiest birthday!”

In the collage, Meghan shared a photo of a young Prince Harry with his mother, Princess Diana, followed by a few from his childhood with Prince William. In the second row, Meghan put together images from his days in the military, following that up with a few from his charitable campaigns, before ending the collage with an image from their wedding and a never-before-seen image from Archie’s christening, taken by Chris Allerton. It’s a little hard to see in the original composite, but luckily royal reporter Omid Scobie gave us a close-up look:

Since Archie’s birth in May, the royal couple has remained incredibly protective over their son, only sharing a handful of images of the adorable tot. The couple even forwent the tradition of royals to have their photo taken leaving the hospital after a child’s birth; instead, the pair shared a family portrait at his private christening. Then, for Mother’s Day, the couple shared a sweet snap of the baby’s feet. They followed that up for Father’s Day by posting a close up of the baby but shielded most of his face from public view.

Both parents are passionate about Archie’s privacy, but Prince Harry, who grew up in the spotlight, seems particularly so. As he once told reporters, “My mother took a huge part in showing me an ordinary life. I am determined to have a relatively ordinary life, and if I am lucky enough to have children, they can have one too.”

Ellen DeGeneres Has a Sweet Story About Her Visit With Meghan, Harry, and Baby Archie

Ellen DeGeneres paid a visit to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in London over the summer, and she has the—no joke—sweetest story about baby Archie.

The talk show host told her studio audience about the visit on Monday, September 9. “They are so amazing—the cutest couple and so down to Earth,” DeGeneres said of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “I hate it—I see them get attacked, and it’s not fair. They’re just two of the most down-to-Earth, compassionate people. They’re doing so much good work.”

DeGeneres is no-doubt referring to the wave of criticism Meghan Markle and Prince Harry received last week for chartering a private jet on their vacation, which some view as contradicting their stance on environmentalism. DeGeneres was one of the first celebrities to come to the couple’s defense. “Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation…Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better,” she wrote on Instagram August 19.

What DeGeneres said on her talk show this week echoes that sentiment. “Portia and I talked to them about all the conservation they’re doing for wildlife,” she said. “They’re doing all this work in Botswana for elephants, and I love that. And they like what I’m doing for the gorillas in Rwanda. So we’re all going to do something together.”

Then, she told the anecdote to end all anecdotes about meeting Archie for the first time. “I can’t tell you how sweet they are, but the most important thing is I got to hold little Archie, the baby. I fed Archie. I held Archie.”

To be a fly on that wall, am I right? Watch Ellen DeGeneres explain more about what happened in the video, above. Of course, some A+ baby jokes are involved.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Baby Archie Casually Hung Out at a Pub This Weekend

It seems that Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Baby Archie are getting into the English Sunday roast tradition. The Sun reports that over the weekend the family was spotted at a local pub called the Rose and Crown in Berkshire’s Winkfield village, where they were seen having a casual $18 meal and hanging out for a few hours.

The Sun says that Prince Harry had a few beers, while Markle stuck to water. They somehow went largely unnoticed by diners, although they were sitting inside with two security officers nearby. Still, one businessman, who was quoted anonymously, spotted them while he was at the pub with his girlfriend and described the scene to the news outlet.

“They were on a table with, I presume, a private secretary. Meghan was cradling Archie most of the time. The little lad was as good as gold. I didn’t hear him cry once while he was there,” he said. “No other customers recognized them. The staff clearly knew who they were but kept the service low-key.”

The reported pub visit comes just as the royals have been facing a serious wave of scrutiny, something that’s become pretty common by now. They were heavily criticized this month for their use of a private jet during a vacation to France. Elton John, who had organized the transportation, jumped to the couple’s defense and said on Twitter that he ensured the flight was carbon neutral. Other celebs, including Ellen DeGeneres and Pink, also jumped to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s defense.

“They just chatted away like any normal couple and were laughing a lot,” the Sun‘s source continued. “After the controversy they have been attracting, they were getting their feet back on the ground with pub grub like millions of ordinary folk, and it was nice to see.”
