We All Totally Missed Baby Archie at Trooping the Colour This Weekend

Meghan Markle made her first appearance since giving birth to baby Archie this past weekend, at Queen Elizabeth II’s annual Trooping the Colour ceremony. Those who tuned in assumed she and Prince Harry had left Archie at home, but it turns out he was at the event too—just not on the balcony.

“Archie was at Trooping the Colour,” a source tells Us Weekly. “[It] was a chance for him to meet some of his cousins.”

The insider continued, “The reason Harry and Meghan didn’t appear on the balcony when the queen returned back to Buckingham Palace was because she was breastfeeding.”

Markle was all smiles at the event, but this source tells Us that leaving Archie—even for that short period of time—was hard for her. “She has spent almost every moment with him and saying goodbye was very difficult,” they say. “But Meghan truly wanted to be at the celebration for the queen…. Meghan loved seeing all the other royal children and was doting on them.”

Prince Harry has similar feelings about being away from Archie. A second source tells Us it was hard for the Duke of Sussex to go to Italy in May for an overnight engagement: “Harry left for Italy and it was very difficult for him to leave Archie and Meghan. He wants to spend every second he can with them.”

Baby Archie was first introduced to the world on Wednesday, May 8, during a photo call. Both Markle and Prince Harry gave short interviews about their new lives as parents.

“It’s been great. Parenting is amazing,” Prince Harry told reporters. “It has only been, what, two and a half, three days…. We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.”

Photos of Prince Louis at His Trooping the Colour 2019 Debut

Although a lot of eyes were on Meghan Markle during this year’s Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday (June 8), it was Prince Louis who stole the show. The 1-year-old child of Prince William and Kate Middleton attended his first public royal event, along with the rest of the family, to officially celebrate his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s 93rd birthday. He made his debut on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, where he not only showed off his royal wave but provided us with a number of super-cute photos. Let’s just say he takes after his brother, Prince George, when it comes to making funny faces—and the photographic evidence exists.

P.S. Peep the little prince’s outfit—Louis was dressed in a blue-and-white ensemble, complete with a pair of patent leather shoes. There’s something special about the look: According to People, the outfit was actually worn by Uncle Harry when he made his debut at Trooping the Colour in 1986. And before that, Prince William wore the outfit during a family trip to Balmoral in 1984 with Prince Charles and Diana. Gotta love some royal hand-me-downs with a sweet meaning behind them.

We hope the tradition is passed on to baby Archie, who will most likely make his first appearance at the event next year as he’ll be a year old—the same age Prince Louis is now. Until then, enjoy the most delightful pictures of the littlest royal’s debut, below.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's Trooping the Colour Outfits Nodded to Their Royal Weddings

Both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle stepped out for Trooping the Colour on Saturday (June 8). The event is the pomp-and-pageantry-filled royal celebration held every year to officially mark the reigning monarch’s birthday—in this case, of course, we’re talking about Queen Elizabeth’s 93rd. Markle wasn’t technically due to show up today: She’s still on maternity leave from giving birth to Prince Archie less than a month ago, but, like Middleton did last year after giving birth to Prince Louis, Markle opted to attend. And it seems like there was some thoughtful planning that went into both duchesses’ outfits for the important event: Both women chose to wear designers they share a special history with.

Markle appeared in a chic navy midi-length dress with a matching hat and her hair in her signature low bun, plus what looks like a matching short-sleeved overcoat. Meanwhile, Middleton wore a cheerful pale yellow coat dress with a matching Philip Treacy fascinator—one she actually wore for Markle’s wedding last year. Cameras first caught their outfits as they pulled up to Buckingham Palace in a carriage with Prince Harry and Camilla.

Zara Is Selling a Replica of Meghan Markle's 2018 Trooping the Colour Off-the-Shoulder Blazer

Meghan Markle may have a Rolodex full of designer contacts—one of the many, many perks of being a duchess—but that doesn’t mean dressing like her has to come at the designer price point. Zara appears to be selling a near-exact replica of one of our favorite Meghan Markle outfits of all time: her off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera blazer suit set from the 2018 Trooping the Colour celebration.

The affordable retailer is offering a red Boat Neck Blazer cut in the same style as Markle’s Carolina Herrera number. It features an “open neckline, oversized round buttons, and a folded-over collar—and it can be yours for $99.90.

Even in a totally different color (the Duchess’s was pale pink), there’s no denying the similarities between the jacket and the look that likely inspired it.

As a reminder, here’s Markle’s Carolina Herrera top from earlier this summer.

And, behold, Zara’s take on the Duchess-approved trend.

Markle has proven to be a fan of the boat neck silhouette in her royal capacities. In addition to her Trooping the Colour dress, her Givenchy wedding gown also dipped below her collarbone (and, it’s worth noting, was approved by the queen). The year of the bateau continues!

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Savannah Phillips Completely Stole the Show at Trooping the Color

The Queen of England’s public birthday celebration, Trooping the Color, has everything a royal-watcher could ask for: high fashion on our two favorite duchesses, handsome princes in uniform, copious amounts of royal waving, and tiny royals doing delightful little-kid things from the regal Buckingham Palace balcony. Speaking of, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, along with cousins Savannah and Isla Phillips (daughters of Princess Anne’s son Peter), totally stole the show when the royal family gathered at Buckingham Palace to watch the military flyover. (Prince Louis was not in attendance, unfortunately.)

It’s partly thanks to what might just be this year’s best GIF. Savannah’s shushing of Prince George—complete with a no-nonsense face to beat them all—went viral.

And she quickly got some new Twitter fans:

Of course, Gary Janetti, whose Instagram posts about Prince George have become a bit of an Internet sensation themselves, weighed in with a two-part ‘gram.

Overall, the royal children seemed to have a blast—look at those excited faces.

But the excitement might have been too much for one of the junior royals: Princess Charlotte had a classic toddler tantrum at one point. Luckily, Kate was right there to comfort her through her tears.

Today’s festivities might have been new for Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex—this was her first such occasion—but not so much for Prince Harry and Prince William. They’ve had their share of silly moments on the balcony over the years, as seen here at Trooping the Color in 1988 and 1989.

Here’s 1988:

It’s all just further proof that no matter whether they’re royal or not, kids are always gonna kid.

5 of the Very Best Royal Moments from Trooping the Color 2018

Trooping the Color is an annual celebration, held in London on the second Saturday of June, that publicly commemorates Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday (her actual date of birth is in April.) And for us Yanks across the pond, it’s another occasion to take in royal pageantry—which, considering how incredible Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent wedding was, couldn’t come too soon.

All of our faves were present on Saturday for the celebrations: Meghan, looking great in a protocol-breaking pink dress, and Harry were there—both fresh off their honeymoon. So was Prince William and Kate Middleton, with George and Charlotte in tow. Also showing up for the day? Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall—and of course, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. (We were hoping for a baby Louis sighting, but, alas, he did not make his balcony debut this year.)

Here are the best royal moments from the celebration.

1. Meghan and Harry are back and still crazy in love.

Will we ever tire of seeing these two looking seriously in love while riding in horse drawn carriages? Probably not.

His look is the definition of the heart-eye emoji.

2. Shenanigans among the littlest royals.

In what will likely be the GIF of the day, Savannah Phillips is seen covering her cousin Prince George’s mouth (what was he saying??). Just look at that no-nonsense face of hers.

Also, it looks like Charlotte got a little talking to from her mom, while her Uncle Harry and Aunt Meghan whispered to each other in the background.

But, all in all, it looks like a good time was had by all.

3. There was an RAF flyover that made for a great photo op.

After the family gathered on the balcony, the Royal Air Force conducted a military flyover as a salute to the Queen.
