Beyoncé Made a Surprise Appearance on the Disney Family Singalong

As if knowing the world needed her now more than ever, Beyoncé popped up on the Disney Family Singalong special that aired on ABC April 16.

“Tonight, we come together and take a break to share in the joy of Disney,” host Ryan Seacrest said at the beginning of the special, which also raised awareness and funds for Feeding America. The night featured many big stars, like Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera covering classic songs, but nobody was a bigger surprise than Queen Bey, whose appearance had not been mentioned in any of the press leading up to the event.

“I’m very proud to be a part of the Disney family,” Bey during the special. “And to help present the Disney Songbook Singalong in partnership with Feeding America, I’d like to dedicate this song to all of the healthcare workers who’ve been working tirelessly to keep us healthy and safe. We greatly appreciate you.”

She then sang “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio and crushed it, naturally.

“She sent something in and it was absolutely beautiful. Beyoncé singing ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ was in the total spirit of not only what the special is about, but what the country is about right now, and it was something only she could do,” Rob Mills, a senior vice president at ABC Entertainment told Buzzfeed News.

Darren Criss shared a little inside insight into the song choice on Twitter. “Fun fact: asked if I could do ‘When You Wish Upon a Star.’ They said ‘that’s impossible to get cleared’ which was either the nicest way to tell me ‘please don’t’ or it was actually true and it’s just nothing is impossible if Beyonce wants to do it,” he wrote on Twitter.

As with every time Beyoncé makes a public appearance, social media went nuts. “ABC didn’t even bother to put the lyrics up for Beyoncé’s song. They said don’t you even THINK about singing when Beyoncé sings!!!!! #DisneyFamilySingalong,” one person tweeted. “I need Beyoncé to release a small ep of her singing lullabies. Imagine how peaceful sleep would be Loudly crying face,” another wrote.

“Please hold on to your families tight. Please be safe. Don’t give up hope, we’re gonna get through this. I promise. God bless you,” Beyoncé said as she finished singing and blew the world a big kiss.

Is Beyoncé and Jay-Z's Bodyguard Carrying Their Alcohol at the Golden Globes 2020?

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are never late to a party. Everybody else is just simply early. That’s why I didn’t bat an eye when I saw them standing in the back of the room at the 2020 Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 5), waiting for Kate McKinnon to finish her speech so they could take their seats. (It appears they showed up to the awards show in the middle of the SNL star tributing Ellen DeGeneres.) What did catch my eye, though, were the bottles of booze their apparent bodyguard was hiding behind his back.

Well, I didn’t see this with my own two eyes, exactly. It was on my TV screen—and brought to the surface by L.A. Times reporter Amy Kaufman who tweeted, “@Beyonce and Jay-Z just walked in. They’re waiting until Kate McKinnon finishes speaking to take their seats. Is their bodyguard carrying bottles of alc for them?”

Check out the image for yourself, below:

It’s not 100 percent clear if what Kaufman wrote is true, but regardless, what a mood. If I was Beyoncé, I would demand that a bodyguard carry bottles of champagne around for me at all times. And not just to awards shows: to the grocery store, to the gym, to file my taxes, to pick up my dry-cleaning. You never know when the desire to crack open a bottle of bubbly is going to come, right?

The internet is living for Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s surprise appearance at the Golden Globes. Below, just a few reactions.

Beyoncé was nominated for Best Original Song at tonight’s Globes. (She co-wrote “Spirit” from the live-action Lion King alongside Timothy McKenzie and Ilya Salmanzadeh.) Other nominees for the award included Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber (“Beautiful Ghosts,” Cats) and Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo (“Stand Up,” Harriet). The award, ultimately, went to Elton John and Bernie Taupin for their song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Look Like Twins in This New Photo, and Fans Are Living for It

It’s hard to believe Blue Ivy Carter, the eldest daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, is about to turn 8 years old on January 7. It seems like just yesterday we were all anxiously awaiting her birth—and name.

Now she’s out here singing on her parents’ tracks and looking like her mom’s total twin. To celebrate the new year, Beyoncé posted a retrospective video of 2019 to her Instagram. In it you get to see big public moments, like The Lion King‘s London premiere where Bey and Jay met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, or their courtside seats for the NBA playoffs. But the fiercely private singer also gave a glimpse into her private life with images from a second birthday party for twins, Rumi and Sir. And there’s lots of Blue looking so much like her mom.

But it’s a photo of Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, and Megan Thee Stallion from New Year’s Eve that has everyone talking.

Fans couldn’t help but call out the resemblance. “Beyoncé literally gave birth to herself with blue ivy. this is so beautiful. im crying,” one tweeted. “Beyoncé made blue by herself,” another wrote.

Twitter

This isn’t the first time the mother-daughter duo has done the twinning thing. They wore coordinating Alexander McQueen sparkling blazers and skirts to The Lion King premiere in Los Angeles in July. (Bey starred as the voice of Nala in the remake.) Blue has a credit for her vocals on “Brown-Skinned Girl,” a song from Beyoncé album, The Lion King: The Gift, released with the movie.

The singer also took her daughter to the Wearable Art Gala in 2019 and while they didn’t match their outfits, the facial resemblance was so strong.

If, for some reason, you’re still not convinced that these two look so much alike, check out this throwback photo Tina Lawson, Beyoncé’s mom and Blue’s grandmother, posted on Instagram back in 2017.

You love to see it.

Beyoncé: Giving Zero Effs Is ‘the Most Liberating Place to Be’

Beyoncé is one of the world’s most private celebrities. Case in point: She rarely gives interviews anymore. Instead, she chooses to express herself through her projects, such as emotional albums like Lemonade and her Netflix documentary Homecoming. Hell, even her Instagram posts are often without captions.

But recently she talked to Elle (via fan-sourced questions) about topics as varied as her latest Ivy Park collection, her work process, motherhood, and body image. One highlight of the Q&A comes when a fan asked Queen Bey how she feels about unnecessary scrutiny around her body. “Everybody’s weight fluctuates,” the fan wrote. “How does it make you feel when people are constantly commenting on your appearance?”

Beyoncé’s reply: “If someone told me 15 years ago that my body would go through so many changes and fluctuations, and that I would feel more womanly and secure with my curves, I would not have believed them. But children and maturity have taught me to value myself beyond my physical appearance and really understand that I am more than enough no matter what stage I’m at in life.”

She continued, “Giving zero effs is the most liberating place to be. Also knowing true beauty is something you cannot see. I wish more people focused on discovering the beauty within themselves rather than critiquing other folks’ grills.”

Amen to that.

But Beyoncé also admitted that negative comments can get to her sometimes. “Yes, I’m human,” she said. “In moments of vulnerability, I try to remind myself I’m strong and I’m built for this. Thank God most of the noise bounces off of me after all of these years.”

We also learned her karaoke go-to songs are “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” and “Hotel California.” She doesn’t know her Snapchat handle, but she is aware of Keke Palmer’s “I’m sorry to that man” meme because she answered, “Sorry to that Snapchat. ???.” And her least favorite question to be asked is actually relatable to a lot of women: “‘Are you pregnant?’ Get off my ovaries!”

The queen has spoken.

Beyoncé Just Announced a Surprise Behind-the-Scenes Documentary, and It's Dropping Tomorrow

Just when we thought we had our slate of TV shows and movies all lined up for the week, Beyoncé and ABC went and announced a surprise documentary that’s going to drop Monday night. (That’s tomorrow, September 16, just to be clear.) And honestly? You’re probably going to want to clear your schedule for it.

Bey and the network teamed up to gift us with the doc, titled Making the Gift. Although pretty much everything Beyoncé does is a gift, if we’re being honest, this particular documentary specifically follows the making of her companion album—titled The Gift—for this year’s Disney reboot of The Lion King, in which she played Nala.

The network announced the documentary in a tweet Sunday evening—and even went so far as to change its name on Twitter to ABeyC, which is extremely appropriate. Along with a short, 30-second trailer for the documentary, ABeyC revealed at exactly what time the documentary will drop: 10 P.M. ET. (Set an iCal alarm now!)

Per Rolling Stone, the documentary will give viewers an “intimate” look at the genesis of each and every song from the album, which features an incredible array of talent from Childish Gambino (who plays Simba in the reboot) to Pharrell and Kendrick Lamar—plus a ton of incredible African musicians from Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Cameroon. Beyond that, viewers will also be treated to glimpses of the work that went into The Gift‘s music videos and recording sessions.

Check out the trailer for the ABC ABeyC documentary below:

Beyoncé’s gifted us with surprise drops before—hello, Homecoming—and consider us here for another. Now, who’s going to bring the popcorn?

Prince Harry Revealed a Major Milestone About Baby Archie to Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Much like his father, Prince Harry, baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is going to have much of his young life documented by the public. Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s desire to keep his life as normal as possible, he’s still a royal, after all.

One perk, though? Sometimes Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be the first (outside of family and friends, natch) to learn about him reaching new milestones—like holding up his baby head.

In case you missed it, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met Bey and Jay at the London premiere of The Lion King and shared a few sweet moments (and hugs) while discussing their children. Per People, Beyoncé told Markle that Archie was “so beautiful” before hearing about the baby’s big moment from Prince Harry.

The prince reenacted his son stretching his neck and holding his head straighter, to which Beyoncé replied, “He’s holding his neck up?” Prince Harry then showed off how he claps and cheers for his son and revealed that Archie is “not so little anymore.”

It’s a nice reminder that no matter how famous their parents are, babies are just babies—growing and changing every day. And those famous parents are going to celebrate those milestones just like the rest of us, even if they also get to hang with Beyoncé. People also reported that Beyoncé and Jay-Z left their twins, Rumi and Sir, at home for the Lion King premiere. “They are not here. They don’t come on every trip,” Beyoncé said. “We left them at home. They would loved to have been here.”

Perhaps they were following Jay-Z’s reported wise words for the Sussexes: “The best advice I can give you, always find some time for yourself.”

It’s not clear when the public will get its next glimpse at baby Archie. Perhaps another polo outing for the family? Or it might not be until Markle and Harry’s royal tour in Africa this fall. Either way, we can’t wait for more adorable photos.
