Serena Williams Paid a Secret Visit to Meet Meghan Markle's Baby Archie

The littlest royal isn’t even a month old yet, and he’s already been visited by some of the most famous people in the world—one of which includes Meghan Markle‘s close friend Serena Williams. The tennis star paid a surprise visit to the Frogmore Cottage last week to see Markle and Prince Harry and to meet baby Archie for the first time.

According to The Daily Mail, Williams was joined by her husband Alexis Ohanian and 1-year-old daughter Olympia. After the visit, the family continued on to Paris, where the pro will compete in the French Open.

Williams, who is among the first of Markle’s friends to meet baby Archie, also posted a photo of herself on Instagram last week during her visit. Although it’s unclear if the pic was taken in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s home, we gotta say: Things are looking pretty regal.

Following baby Archie’s arrival, there have been rumors swirling about who his godparents will be. Harry and Markle have yet to announce their decision, and since Prince William and Kate Middleton are unlikely to be the baby’s godparents, there’s been a lot of speculation about who will take on the important role. One rumored contender for the role of godmother is Markle’s close friend and maid of honor, Jessica Mulroney, who reportedly also visited the newest member of the royal family last week with her daughter Ivy. Williams definitely seems to be in the running as well: After meeting in 2014, she and the Duchess have remained incredibly close—not to mention Williams also helped organize Markle’s lavish baby shower at the ritzy Mark Hotel in New York City in February, which is, um, a very godmotherly thing to do.

Back in September, Williams also revealed the two had been in touch more than ever. “We were actually just texting each other this morning,” she told Australia’s “The Sunday Project.” “We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”

No matter who winds up being godmother—and it’s not a competition—either of these royal-adjacent ladies is just lucky to have met Archie and hold the newest royal addition. Those cheeks!

This Story About Baby Archie Fixing the Royal 'Feud' Is Cracking Me Up

Baby Archie only arrived last week, but he’s already been tasked, reportedly, with something big: fixing the so-called “feud” between Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William.

I just…I have a lot of feelings about this. On the one hand, sure: New babies coming into a family are known to ease tensions or rifts. There’s simply no time to be passive aggressive toward your annoying brother-in-law from Texas when there’s a screaming child in the house. But on the other: LOL, what? Baby Archie has only been on this planet for 11 days. He shouldn’t have to bother himself with his famous family’s problems. All he needs to be worrying about at the present moment is napping.

According to People magazine, Baby Archie gives Prince William and Prince Harry, who have allegedly grown apart over the last few years, an opportunity to reconnect.

“William and Harry will want their children to know their cousins and do things together, so they will work harder at their relationship,” a source close to the royal family tells People. “The brothers will have a different kind of relationship and move on.”

Look, I get it: If a feud does exist—and that’s a big if—then Baby Archie probably will help the two princes put their differences aside. But now all I’m picturing is Archie wearing a three-piece suit and playing couple’s therapist to his father and uncle. In my mind, they’ll all meet in Archie’s vegan paint-colored nursery and hash out their issues. Archie will have to take naps every two minutes, of course, because he’s a literal baby. And his counseling rate would be $500 an hour, at minimum.

I kid, I kid. Archie’s arrival is obviously cause for celebration and an opportunity to mend any fences within the royal core four. Keep in mind, though, that a feud might not even exist. Royals expert Katie Nicholl told Glamour a few months back that any stories of drama between either William and Harry or Kate and Meghan are grossly exaggerated.

“I think this idea of there being a catfight between [Meghan and Kate] has made tantalizing headlines, but I don’t believe that,” she said. “I’ve never heard from my sources that there has ever been a feud or a falling-out. I had heard about an upset over the dress fitting for Princess Charlotte. And I had heard that while Harry was very keen for the two of them to become best friends, there was never that sort of a friendship.”

She continued, “I think there is some truth to there having been some tension—not just between the duchesses but between the dukes, as well. As we all know, things can gather momentum pretty quickly. So while I think there’s been tension, I don’t believe there has been some feud.”

For what it’s worth, a source tells People that despite all the changes happening in the royal family (like the core four splitting offices), “There is never any doubt that [Harry and William] will be there for each other 100 percent and support each other when it matters.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William Just Met Baby Archie for the First Time

Kate Middleton and Prince William met Baby Archie for the first time today, May 14, a palace rep confirmed to People magazine.

According to the publication, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s newborn son took place at the latter couple’s Frogmore Cottage home. Not much else is known about the meet-up at this time—just that it happened.

Will and Kate’s reasoning for waiting a week to see Archie wasn’t shady. Rather, royals expert Omid Scobie explained on Good Morning America yesterday that Markle and Prince Harry wanted week one with their baby to be relatively quiet. This week, though, is all about the visitors, with Prince Charles expecting to stop by Frogmore Cottage on Thursday.

“We’re absolutely thrilled,” the Duke of Cambridge told reporters last week about Baby Sussex’s arrival. “We’re looking forward to seeing them in the next few days. I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting.”

Middleton also talked to journalists with Prince William, adding, “It’s such a special time, and with Louis and Charlotte just having had their birthdays, it’s such a great time of the year to have a baby. Spring’s in the air and everything, so it’s pretty great.” (Prince Louis’ birthday is on April 23, while Princess Charlotte’s is on May 2.)

Markle and Prince Harry officially welcomed Archie early Monday morning, May 6. “It’s been great. Parenting is amazing,” the Duke of Sussex said at a photo call on May 8. “We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up.” Markle echoed his sentiment, saying, “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”

Here's Why Kate Middleton and Prince William Haven't Met Baby Archie Yet

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son, Archie, last Monday, and there are two very important people who still haven’t met him yet: Kate Middleton and Prince William. The reason for this, though, isn’t as shady as the tabloids and Internet would like to think. Rather, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex simply wanted their first week with Archie to be low-key without a ton of visitors.

“Archie’s first week at home with mom and dad was quiet,” royals expert Omid Scobie said on Good Morning America today, May 13. “They wanted that personal space with their newborn. This week, it’s all about the visitors with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visiting tomorrow and the Prince of Wales [Prince Charles, Harry and William’s father] visiting later this week.”

Scobie reiterated this on Twitter, as well, writing, “Sources confirm that Prince William and Duchess Kate will be meeting baby Archie for the first time early this week. Grandfather Prince Charles will be paying a visit a few days later.”

This makes sense, when you think about it. Parents typically wait at least a few days—if not weeks or months—before introducing their newborn children to extended family. Kate Middleton and Prince William probably just wanted to give Markle and Prince Harry some room to breathe before showering baby Archie with presents. There’s nothing to see here, truly.

Middleton and Prince William showed their love for baby Archie from afar last week. “We’re absolutely thrilled,” the Duke of Cambridge told reporters. “We’re looking forward to seeing them in the next few days. I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting.”

The duchess echoed these sentiments and pointed out that Archie’s birthday closely aligns with two of her children’s: Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte. “It’s such a special time, and with Louis and Charlotte just having had their birthdays, it’s such a great time of the year to have a baby,” she said. “Spring’s in the air and everything, so it’s pretty great.”

Markle and Prince Harry shared a few photos of Archie to the @SussexRoyal Instagram account last week. Their most recent post, published Sunday, is in honor of Mother’s Day and includes a snap of Archie’s feet.

“Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered,” the post reads. “We honor and celebrate each and every one of you.”

Here's Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Decided to Name Their Son Archie

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry threw everyone for a loop when they revealed the name of their baby boy: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. This isn’t a traditional royal moniker, as many predicted the Sussexes would go with. It turns out Markle and Prince Harry wanted something a little different for their child.

A source close to the duke and duchess tells ELLE.com the couple was keen on a “modern name” that still respected royal tradition. As for why Archie specifically, well, the answer is simple.

“There was no special meaning behind the name; the couple just loved it,” the source tells ELLE.com. That’s about as relatable of a reason as ever.

And it’s in line with what royals expert Katie Nicholl told Glamour a few weeks ago about Baby Sussex’s name. “I heard Meghan might want to go down the more modern route; they might want a more American name. But I think they will be respectful of royal traditions,” she said. “There are no strict rules at all. There’s no rule stipulating they must name a royal child after other royals.”

A few eyebrows were raised when it was revealed Markle and Prince Harry decided to forego a courtesy title (like “Prince”) for Archie, but Nicholl also called this in our interview.

“Harry is a man who, as a young boy, resented being a prince, resented the weighted burden that came with his title,” Nicholl told Glamour. “I think it’s very unlikely he’s going to want a title for his child. I think Lord or Lady is probably more than good enough for the Sussexes.”

Archie does have the title “Master” right now, but this could change when Prince Charles becomes king. All of the grandchildren under the current monarch have an HRH title, so it’s possible Archie will fall in line when the time comes. Or Markle and Prince Harry could stay firm in their decision.

Joe Little, a royal history expert and editor at Majesty magazine, says (per ELLE), “When Charles becomes King, his grandchildren will, where necessary, automatically be upgraded to Royal Highness and Prince/Princess. But perhaps Harry and Meghan will do what Prince Edward and Sophie have done and choose not to ‘burden’ their children with such styles and titles.”

Keep in mind that Queen Elizabeth II could issue a new “Letters Patent” to ensure all of Prince Harry’s children receive royal titles—so if she hasn’t done this yet, it’s probably because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t want her to.

Prince or not, one thing is certain: Archie is a total cutie.

'Riverdale' Fans Are Not Happy About Archie and Betty Possibly Hooking Up

Last night’s Riverdale episode was probably traumatic for “Bughead” and “Varchie” shippers because both couples ended things on sour notes. After Archie told Veronica “I love you” and she didn’t say it back, the two had a heated spat that ended with Veronica tearfully getting into a car and driving away. Meanwhile, Jughead was royally pissed at Betty for doing that stripper dance at the White Wyrm to become a Serpent. He wants her to stay as far away from that world as possible, and they quasi broke up—for what seems like the fifth time—after their own fight. It was an emotional final five minutes, to say the least.

And it only got crazier at the very end: The final shot of the episode showed a shirtless (of course) Archie staring wistfully at Betty through his bedroom window. She stares back at him, too, and the implication here is that they’re going to get together—or, at the very least, revisit some latent feelings. Yes, my friends, it seems like “Barchie”—Betty and Archie—is about to make an appearance on Riverdale.

Fans aren’t happy about it, though. The social media response to Betty and Archie’s thirsty stare-off has been, surprisingly, very charged and angry. Yes, there are some fans who’ve been shipping Betty and Archie since the beginning, but the majority of them see this relationship as a step backwards. For them, Betty and Archie had their chance in season one, but that ship has sailed now. Too much work has gone into establishing “Varchie” and “Bughead” for those relationships to just disappear. Here are the most, erm, spirited reactions we found to this Betty and Archie nonsense:

Of course, it’s possible Betty and Archie won’t hook up at all. Riverdale is notorious for its ambiguous cliffhangers, so we could be creating something out of nothing. We’ll have to tune into next week’s episode to find out for sure, though. Get your ponytails ready.
