We can’t say with certainty whether Aqua had fashion in mind when they sung “life in plastic, it’s fantastic” back in 1997, but two decades later, designers seem to be catching on. Runways from New York (Marc Jacobs) to Paris (Chanel, Valentino) featured plenty of PVC for spring, and the street-style crowd gave the slick material a rousing endorsement outside the shows, pairing vinyl skinny pants with classic cable-knit sweaters, and glossy jackets with tattered tees. To give credit where credit is due, Raf Simons ushered in the recent craze back in February with his first collection for Calvin Klein, which featured plaid overcoats, floral dresses, and furs topped with a layer of translucent plastic. If you don’t have the budget to invest in one of those pieces of fashion history, however, there’s an abundance of options at ASOS, Topshop, Zara, and the like that will let you try the trend without going broke. 'Mulled Wine Hair' Is Winter's Prettiest, Coziest Hair Color Trend


‘Tis finally the season for mulled wine, that warming, sweet winter adult beverage made of boxed red wine, brandy, oranges, and a handful of the most delicious spices you can find. Truly dedicated fans, however—or, hey, just anyone who wants to switch up their hair to a new gorgeous shade for winter—will want to note the latest hair color trend that’s been popping up all over Instagram lately. Behold, the jammy, plummy tones of “mulled wine hair.”

The color is marked by a deep berry-red base hue—the same shade as that Bordeaux you just poured into the saucepan to simmer—with undertones of cinnamon and orange. It’s kind of like the purple-red hair color that was popular in the ’90s, but the multidimensional tones in this shade, plus an updated cut, make it firmly of this year.

Ultimately, it’s more soothing and less in-your-face—plus, the sheer variety of tone combinations you can explore means that there’s a right shade of mulled wine for just about anyone. Lighter skin tones might opt for a brighter berry, while darker skin tones might steer toward the rich merlot shades, Allure reports.

It’s not been the first time a trending shade has been named after a favorite beverage (this fall’s “Cream Soda Hair” is a notable example), but there’s something so warm about this shade that we’re reaching for our mugs and cozy wool throws pretty much as we write this.

Of course, this Bordeaux shade has been having quite a moment lately—hello, eye shadow and Kate Middleton’s wardrobe—but adding it to the world of hair color? Beautiful.

At this point, it’s hard to believe there are any ‘90s trends we haven’t seen make a comeback yet — from fanny packs to stretchy chokers, mini buns to baby tees, everything old is new again (and again and again). This season, thankfully, the throwback style of the moment is actually very wearable: chenille sweaters are ultra-plush, knit from a tufted yarn that makes them velvety-soft. Back then, the fabric was a favorite choice for clingy sleeveless turtlenecks and baggy cardigans—preferably paired with grunge-era floral mini-dresses and ripped black tights—but this winter, you’ll find slouchy cropped V-necks, cozy hoodies, and oversized off-the-shoulder styles, in some cases adorned with of-the-moment details like ruffled sleeves and asymmetric collars. 5 Celebrity Outfits That'll Convince You to Try Out the Beret Trend


As with any fashion trend I skeptically buy into (creeper sneakers, furry slides, Tuesday tulle), this story begins with Rihanna. Last March, she arrived to Dior‘s Fall 2017 show during Paris Fashion Week wearing what would be that collection’s hallmark accessory, worn by every single model down Maria Grazia Chiuri‘s runway: a black leather beret. These were, according to the designer, admittedly more military-inspired (and politically charged) than the “how to dress like a French girl” stereotype (as was a recurring theme that season). And on Rihanna, it was obviously, unimpeachably cool.

Soon enough, the headgear had transcended the catwalk and evolved into a more mainstream trend. First Bad Gal RiRi, then the street-style crowd; then frequently photographed celebrities and models; then all the way down the retail chain to fast fashion. Now, you’re more likely to spot a well-dressed stranger in a perfectly tilted beret than a calculatedly slouchy beanie on the street when it’s cold out. It’s an accessory that’s never truly left the fashion imagination—partly thanks to the industry’s unfaltering fascination with “Parisian style,” and partly thanks to season-two Carrie Bradshaw—but is suddenly more relevant than ever, thanks to some choice high profile sightings that could sway anyone for this trend.

The 'Naked Dress' Trend Is Alive and Well, Thanks to Ashley Graham


It’s almost harder to think of a celebrity who hasn’t worn the once-scandalous “naked dress” than to list off those who have. Ever since Rihanna brought it back in a big way (with a little help from Adam Selman) at the 2014 CFDA Awards, the glam, sheer, and otherwise light-on-opacity trend has become a staple on the red carpet—or, if you’re Bella Hadid, in daywear, if you’re just hanging out by a casual helicopter. Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and a whole host of other A-listers are big on this style. And if you thought the “naked dress” was on the way out, you were sorely mistaken, because Ashley Graham just wore a stunning black version that’s making us excited about this trend all over again.

The model opted for a Spring 2018 Marina Rinaldi gown to accept a Model of the Year award at Harper’s Bazaar UK’s Women of the Year event on Thursday night. The beyond-elegant style was midi-length, with sleeves to the elbows and a crew neck—and also completely sheer, embellished only with gorgeous, 1920s-esque beading in black and silver bars across the chest, hips, and calves.

A very literal interpretation of the “naked dress” trend, the Marina Rinaldi gown exposed Graham’s black bra and matching low-rise bikini panty. The model kept her hair and makeup simple and sleek—winged eyeliner and a voluminous half-up—though she let some diamond drop earrings add a little drama to the whole ensemble. Stunning, no?

The Biggest Celeb Costume Trend for Halloween 2017 Is Disco Queen


There have been a lot of great celebrity costumes for Halloween 2017 season thus far. But none of them have been chicer or more popular than the 1970s-inspired disco queen looks that everyone from Kaia Gerber and mom Cindy Crawford to Amal Clooney were seen wearing over the holiday weekend.

To be fair, we’re guessing part of the costume’s popularity has to do with the fact that Casamigos, the tequila brand co-founded by George Clooney and Rande Gerber (a.k.a. husbands to Amal and Cindy, respectively), threw a ’70s-themed party in Los Angeles over the weekend. But it also makes sense that the costume is having a moment given the decade’s ongoing popularity in fashion, beauty, and pop culture. After all, who doesn’t love an opportunity to sport big sexy hair and wear something slinky and shimmery?
