John Mayer Spoofed That Viral Celebrity ‘Imagine’ Video, and I Can’t Stop Laughing

Today’s little escape from the coronavirus comes in the form John Mayer spoofing the video of celebrities singing “Imagine” that went viral last week.

You know the video I’m talking about. Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Kristen Wiig, and several other A-listers recorded themselves singing “Imagine” by John Lennon and spliced it into a super-cut. The intention was to lift people’s spirits during this hard time—and while they meant well, the stunt didn’t land properly. Social media backlash was swift, and everyone from Charli XCX to Trevor Noah took a shot at spoofing it.

But the award for best spoof, hands down, goes to John Mayer, who joked in a new Instagram video that he was approached about doing the video but thought the celebs wanted him to sing “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, not John Lennon. He then recorded himself belting some particularly funny lyrics on Grande’s song and intermixed it with the original “Imagine” super-cut. The result? Pure hilarity.

“Gal Gadot and a bevy of other celebrities released a rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ that went far and wide across the internet,” he said in his video. “She asked me to be a part of this and I totally misunderstood the assignment and thought they wanted me to sing ‘Imagine’ by Ariana Grande from her 2019 smash hit album Sweetener.” (Mayer mixed up his Grande facts right there. Sweetener actually came out in 2018, and the song “Imagine” is off her 2019 album Thank U, Next, but I’ll let it slide.)

Check his spoof for yourself, below.

Mayer has been serving up some excellent quarantine content lately. He has a weekly live show on IG called Current Mood that’s a must-watch. Other celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Katharine McPhee are also blessing us with periodic feel-good content. Keep it coming, pals. We need it.

Hannah Brown Says She Can't Get on the Celebrity Dating App, Raya

Hannah Brown is down to find love on Raya…if only they would let her on!

According to the former Bachelorette and winner of Dancing with the Stars, the popular “celebrity” dating app has completely ghosted her application. “I don’t know if you know this but I was the Bachelorette,” Hannah jokingly complained on her Instagram story. “And I can’t get on Raya. I’ve been on the waiting list for months now.” One Reddit user recorded the entire three-story rant for your viewing pleasure.

Apparently, Hannah’s friend Elyse Murphy, also featured in the video, is a pastor who was approved by the app. To be fair, Murphy has 20K followers on the ‘gram, which is nothing to scoff at. Plus, she even offered Brown her profile, which she says she’s no longer using.

“No no no, I’m done. Christian Mingle, here I come,” Brown declared in response. But will they approve? “I might not be allowed on Christian Mingle at this point, but Jesus still loves me,” she joked. This is probably referring to that time she boasted on national television that she had sex with current Bachelor Peter Weber four times in a windmill. “Jesus still loves me” has become a sort of slogan for Brown since that moment and appears in her Instagram bio and posts.

Many commenters on Reddit have already come to Brown’s defense. “Someone at Raya must still be in a denial den/cockpit/ballroom,” one poster wrote. Another said Raya is “so embarrassing” anyway, which launched a debate about the app’s users, which may or may not consist mostly of “Australian DJs, youtubers, semipopular podcasters, and macro-influencers.”

Maybe Brown should commiserate about the celebrity dating game with Lucy Hale. The Katy Keene star recently admitted that she swiped right on John Mayer on a VIP app that’s so secret, she can’t even say its name. Unfortunately, she doesn’t think he swiped back.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times: If Alabama Hannah and the girl from Pretty Little Liars can’t find love, what hope is there for the rest of us?

Super Bowl Commercials 2020: The Best Celebrity Appearances

Check back here for all the updates on Super Bowl commercials 2020.

Non-sports lovers have a few things to look forward to with this year’s Super Bowl. Demi Lovato is singing the national anthem. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be doing the halftime show. So basically, we’re talking about a full pop concert with some football happening in between.

And as always, we have commercials. The Super Bowl commercials are consistently a cut above what you see during regular prime-time programming: They’re usually funnier, more clever and/or tear-jerking, and packed with celebrity cameos. This year is no exception. But if you’re not watching the big game, it’s all good: We have a roundup of all the pop culture-y Super Bowl commercials worth watching.

Without further ado, let’s go through the best celebrity appearances from Super Bowl commercials 2020:

Olay

Taraji P. Henson, Busy Philipps, Lily Singh, Katie Couric, and actual astronaut Nicole Stott star in this spot for the skin-care brand. The commercial’s hashtag, #MakeSpaceForWomen, clearly has a double meaning. We can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.

Pop-Tarts

“Time for this snack to get a snack,” Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness says in this spot for Pop-Tarts. The only problem? All the available food options aren’t up to JVN’s standards. Looks like a certain frosted pastry giant will have to come in and fix the problem….

Avocados From Mexico

I never thought I needed to see Molly Ringwald put a crown on an avocado until I watched this commercial. Avocados from Mexico has a storied history of featuring celebrities in its Super Bowl commercials. Last year’s featured Broadway icon Kristin Chenoweth. A true legends-only club.

Sabra Hummus

Real Housewives of New Jersey rivals Teresa Giudice and Caroline Manzo star in this new spot from Sabra, which has them in glamorous red gowns, eating hummus and talking in surprisingly hushed tones. No table flipping? No yelling? No one-liners? The extended commercial will certainly include something dramatic, right?

Squarespace

Winona Ryder returns to her hometown of Winona, Minnesota, in this spot for the website-building company. The premise is simple but cute: Ryder is building a website next to the Winona, Minnesota, sign when a cop stops by and asks what she’s doing. Watch on to see what happens.

Michelob Ultra

John Cena and Jimmy Fallon go on a kooky fitness journey in this new ad for Michelob Ultra. This is a relatable commercial: Working out next to the living hulk that is John Cena indeed would require beer afterwards.

Hyundai Sonata

John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch, and Chris Evans put on some over-the-top Boston accents in this cheeky commercial about the Hyundai Sonata, which features new technology that lets the car park itself. All three actors were actually born in Boston—and Fallon and Dratch immortalized the accent with their recurring SNL sketch—which makes things extra clever.

The Biggest New Celebrity Couples of 2020

New year, new decade, new relationships—at least that’s the way things are playing out among the newest celebrity couples in Hollywood.

Last year saw the breakups of some of the most famous duos around, like Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth; Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik; and Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott. But if January is any indication, a new crop of couples will soon be making headlines in 2020. Take Rachel Bilson and Bill Hader. While rumors of sightings of the two hanging out lingered at the end of 2019, they didn’t make things official until they hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January. And according to Us Weekly, Zac Efron has quickly bounced back from a recent breakup by dating fellow actor Halston Sage.

Here are are the new celebrity couples of 2020…so far.

The Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2020

Twenty-nineteen saw several celebrity breakups that hit us hard. Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum ended their marriage. Lady Gaga and Christian Carino called off an engagement. Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson split after five years. And Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth concluded a short marriage but very long relationship. There were also some quick, memorable romances that flamed out—among them Demi Lovato and Austin Wilson, Gigi Hadid and Tyler Cameron, and maybe the year’s biggest WTF couple, Kate Beckinsale and Pete Davidson.

Sadly, for anyone who believes in celebrity love, the hits keep coming in 2020. On January 14, a source confirmed that Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have ended their relationship after almost nine years together. The news comes after fans noticed Butler was absent from Hudgens’s recent posts, including around the holidays. “Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup,” the source told Us Weekly.

More celebrity breakups will inevitably happen this year. Below, a list of the ones that were particularly difficult to accept.

Celebrity Weddings: Here's Everyone Who Got Married in 2020

2019 was a massive year for celebrity weddings: Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had a glamorous French wedding after an unexpected surprise bash in Vegas (with an Elvis impersonator in attendance, of course) and Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin had an elegant soiree after months of anticipation. Jennifer Lawrence also tied the knot with her boyfriend Cooke Maroney in Newport, Rhode Island; Nicki Minaj announced on Instagram that she’d officially married Kenneth Petty; and Zoe Kravitz and Karl Glusman had a stunning reception in Paris, complete with Kravitz’s famous parents and her Big Little Lies castmates.

It’s going to be hard to top all of the high-profile nuptials from last year, but there are already some major weddings to look forward to in 2020. Wilmer Valderrama and Amanda Pacheco announced their engagement on Jan. 1, and Bachelorette alumnus Roberto Martinez shared he’d popped the big question to his girlfriend Kristiana Elliott. And during the first weekend of the year, Riverdale actor Vanessa Morgan revealed she’d had an exciting few days, sharing shots on Instagram from her wedding to MLB Star Michael Kopech. She posted a video on her stories that showed bright white slippers with the word “BRIDE” written on them in sparkly rhinestones. Kopech had revealed he’d proposed in an Instagram post, in which he wrote to Morgan, “You stayed by my side for these seemingly random changes of my life. You stayed when often times I didn’t deserve it. You’ve loved me for ME from day one. Completely unselfishly. You’re undeniably the spark that reignited my fire.”

Morgan and Kopech might be one of the first big celebrity weddings of the year, but we’ll keep adding to this list of everyone else who says “I do” in 2020.
