These Taylor Swift Fan Theories Will Convince You She’s Dropping New Music Soon


Taylor Swift fans love a good theory—especially when it comes to her music. Before she released her sixth studio album, Reputation, in November 2017, Swifties were running rampant with theories about what her next era would be. At one point they thought the new album was going to be about space—like, the actual stars and planets. And the evidence was there! The FBI honestly needs to recruit new agents from the Taylor Swift fan base, because their sleuthing skills are unparalleled.

And now they’re at it again. Roughly 14 months after Reputation, the Swifties are convinced Taylor’s next era—which we’ll call TS7—is upon us. As always, they have the receipts to back it up. Let’s go through (1) all the reasons why Swifties think new music is coming soon, and (2) what that new music could be.

Swift has allegedly talked about releasing new music this year.__ Perez Hilton claims Swift told him she plans to release new music before her 30th birthday, which is in December 2019. Also, keep in mind that at last year’s American Music Awards, Swift said this: “I always look at albums as chapters in my life. And I’m so—to the fans, I’m so happy that you like this one. I’m so happy that this means that you like this one. But I have to be really honest with you about something: I’m even more excited about the next chapter.” This at least hints Swift is working on new material.

The Scrabble saga of October 2018. A few months back, Swift posted a photo of herself playing Scrabble with her mom. The letters she had on display were B, I, O, I, E, letters whose point values, ironically, add up to seven. Swift fans were quick to point this out and suggest it was a nod to TS7.

Seven palm trees means…TS7? On Sunday (February 24), Swift posted a photo of palm trees and captioned it with seven corresponding emojis. This is yet another reference to that number and further fuels the idea new music is coming.

But this could also mean a countdown…starting at seven. The proof for this lies in Swift’s next two Instagrams. On Monday she posted a photo of herself sitting on the sixth (6) stair of a spiral staircase.

She then uploaded this photo, with five (5) holes in a fence and her face in the middle:

Obviously, the idea is once Swift reaches one (1), there will be a special announcement—possibly about new music.

That fence pic and the Scrabble photo have a strong connection. She’s wearing the same flowered shirt in each—and the flower featured is the woodland forget-me-not, Myosotis sylvatica, which blooms in April.

The stamps in Swift’s fan calendar. As BuzzFeed points out, specific dates are “stamped” on Swift’s 2019 fan calendar: April 13, May 13, July 13, August 13, and December 13. There’s also a flower marked on March 2, which is when the aforementioned “countdown” would end. The consensus? Swift is making a big announcement on March 2, and April 13 could be the first major date connected to it. BuzzFeed also says Swift is rumored to be Elle magazine’s April cover star. That issue, presumably dropping in early March, might tee up whatever Swift has planned for the spring.

YouTube is also doing something fishy. Swift has 245 videos uploaded to the site, but only 243 are visible, according to BuzzFeed. This could mean she has two clips prepared to drop after this countdown. Orrr it could just be two old clips she doesn’t want to release. The first theory is more exciting.

Well, that depends on which fan you ask. Palm trees, though, seem to hold significance. A Reputation promo photo of Swift features her wearing a jacket with seven palm trees. The trees also show up in the “End Game” and “Delicate” videos.

Also, consider the placement of the palm trees in Swift’s Instagram pic. There are four on the left, two on the right, and one in the middle. One fan posits the first four represent Swift’s country albums, while the last two are her pop ones. TS7 lands right in the middle, which leads some to think it will be a country-pop fusion or something totally new.

The word eternal also keeps popping up. It was stitched on the dress she wore to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. Palm trees, if you’re curious, symbolize “triumph, peace, and eternal life,” according to one fan’s Tumblr post. It all comes full circle.

This Small Detail From *You*'s Season Finale Will Convince You That Beck Is Alive


Warning: You spoilers ahead.

If you’re all aboard the You train on Netflix (and who isn’t?) then you know the big question on fans’ minds: Is Beck (Elizabeth Lail) alive? The season one finale suggests Joe (Penn Badgley) murdered her after she tried to escape that creepy glass box in the basement of his bookstore—but we never see Beck’s body, just an anonymous body bag of some sort. Joe also manages to sell Beck’s debut novel to a publisher, and people are celebrating it in an almost-posthumous way. But none of this 100 percent proves Beck is dead. You is bonkers, people. Anything can happen.

With that spirit in mind, fasten your seat belts—because there’s a small detail from the show’s season finale that supports the fan theory that Beck is alive. As WhatCulture points out, Joe is completely flabbergasted when his ex-girlfriend Candace shows up to the bookstore in episode 10. “Candace, you’re…” Joe starts saying before she finishes his thought for him: “Alive.” For those who think this means Joe didn’t harm Candace—as previously speculated—think back to something she said to him in an earlier episode in a hallucination: “Are you gonna leave Beck alone, or will she end up like me?” This builds a strong case for thinking Joe believed he killed Candace but didn’t.

And if Candace is alive, it could mean that Beck is also alive. It’s plausible that for a second time, Joe is a failed murderer. He essentially replicated the same atrocious behavior with Beck that he did with Candace: the obsessing, the stalking, the jealousy, etc. Maybe Joe also thinks he murdered Beck—that would explain why he’s acting like Beck is dead in the season finale. But in reality he didn’t pull it off, and fans are finding all sorts of loopholes.

This theory holds water if you (a) believe Joe attempted—but failed—to murder Candace, and (b) believe the fates of Candace and Beck mirror each other, which is more than possible. Joe is a very methodical thinker and quite set in his problematic, murderous ways. He’s a killer, yes, but as the pee incident at Peach’s house proves, he makes mistakes. Perhaps he made the same mistake twice.

Hillary Clinton's Speech at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards Will Convince You to Run for Office


2008 Women of the Year honoree Hillary Clinton spent much of midterms season campaigning for Democrats running for Congress, including Florida politician Donna Shalala and Chicago gubernatorial candidate J.B. Prtizker. So it’s really no wonder she surprised the crowd at Glamour‘s Women of the Year awards for an inspiring speech on the importance of women running for office.

Read the powerful message she delivered to the crowd, below:

“Congratulations to all of the Glamour Women of the Year being honored tonight—don’t they inspire us and give us hope about the future?

“This week, exactly two years ago, was a rough one. But, you know, my personal disappointment wasn’t so much about what happened, but how do we create even more opportunity for all the people in America. ‘An America that’s hopeful, inclusive and big-hearted,’ as I said afterward. That remains my mission today.

Maybe we didn’t crack that highest, hardest ceiling, but we did charge straight through the wall and into the arena.

“In that same speech, I told little girls that they deserved every chance and opportunity to pursue their own dreams. But I didn’t realize how many women were listening as well. And many of those women decided that they were going to get involved in politics, including running for public office. Maybe we didn’t crack that highest, hardest ceiling, but we did charge straight through the wall and into the arena.

“In 2018, women brushed themselves off and ran in record-breaking numbers: Just think, 233 for Congress, 16 for governor, and more than 3,300 for seats in state legislatures. And what was so great was that these women came from a variety of backgrounds, from military veterans to teachers to bartenders to small business owners. They ran grassroots campaigns, many of them as first-time-ever candidates, and each of them fought for the priorities of their local communities: seeking fully funded public education, justice system reform, environmental protection, an unprejudiced immigration system, economic equality, and so much more.

“From lifetime politicos to first-time candidates, busy, busy, people, busy executives and busy moms, women facing men and women facing each other, women went all in. Win or lose, their races really, energized us, and encouraged even more Americans of all kinds to run for public office, to get civically involved.

To those of you who think it’s impossible to make possible, we have lots of examples from last week that now we just have to try.

“Think about this the winners included a number of firsts: Debra Haaland and Sharice Davids, the first Native American women elected to Congress. Right? And what about Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress; and Lucy McBath, a woman who I got to know well in the 2016 campaign who turned her grief of losing her son to gun violence to a movement to commons sense gun reform. She helped turn mourning into a movement, then she won a seat once held by Newt Gingrich. To those of you who think it’s impossible to make possible we have lots of examples from last week that now we just have to try. Just before I came on, I heard that the race in Arizona was called for Kyrsten Sinema.

“Can we please offer some thunderous applause for them, and for all of the women who ran this year? And for the women who will follow their lead and run for office in 2020…maybe some of them are in this room tonight. I hope that you are. Because we need you. We need you so much. I think people got a burst of energy from the victories from last week. I will be sure to continue to encourage a lot of you and encourage particularly young women and everyone who wants to see positive change to go ahead, get involved, and maybe even run for office. And may the best candidates win.”

Rihanna Is Here to Convince You That Blue Highlighter Actually Looks Amazing


Fenty Beauty is dropping products so quickly, it’s impossible to keep up. After surprising fans with four new shades of Stunna Lip Paint, the brand just announced its new-new for the holidays, and—well—it’s a doozy. Fenty is releasing its first highlighter palette.

Last night, Rihanna made an appearance in Sydney, Australia where she revealed the first (in what’s sure to be much more to come) of Fenty’s #CHILLOWT holiday collection. The seven-pan palette includes just about every shade of highlighter under the rainbow, which we mean quite literally. The Killawatt Foil Palette contains metallic purple, pink, white, red, orange, bronze, and blue (yep) options available to aid in your glow-up. And, like all of Fenty’s products, they can be used pretty much however you deem fit.

Fans, as you can imagine, have been going rightly bonkers over it online. “OH HELL YES!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE MINE,” one user commented on Instagram. “Ri Ri really out her got me buying more highlighter ok goodbye wig, goodbye bank account,” shared another.

The palette is launching at midnight on October 4 (so basically tonight) for anyone who lives in Australia or New Zealand. The rest of us have to wait until October 12 when it start rolling out in Sephora stores in the U.S. and online. According to the brand, this is only just the beginning from the collection. So buckle up, Rih-mas is looking good this year.
