Lizzo Failing at Making Dalgona Coffee Is the Most Relatable Thing a Celeb Has Done in Quarantine

Lizzo can win Grammys, play the flute, rap, help you find the will to live, and create a national stir just by standing up at a basketball game.

But she cannot make Fancy Internet Coffee by hand, and in this sense, she is just like all of us.

You know Fluffy Online Dessert Coffee, perhaps by its legal name: Dalgona coffee. It’s the handmade Korean trend that has become an international sensation during quarantine. Caffeine-fiends and cool teens looking for a way to get non-boring coffee while staying at home developed this three-ingredient, whipped instant coffee, which you can make at home, following an easy recipe.

When you were young and full of hope and hadn’t added hot water yet.

TikTok

That is…if you have an electric mixer, you can easily make it at home. If you only have a whisk—or, God forbid, a spoon—it’s not so easy. Stirring by hand just isn’t an efficient way to whip air into liquid (that’s why most people buy butter, instead of churning it from heavy cream). You can make Dalgona coffee with a spoon or whisk, but only in the same way you can, technically, knit a tablecloth; it’s a fun activity if you’re in the mood, but time and space will likely lose all sense of meaning for you while you’re doing it. However, if you succeed you will feel like a pioneer queen and will instantly be vaulted into the next level of the quarantine simulation: i.e. baking your own bread. (Next thing you know, you’ll be whittling.)

Take it from Lizzo, who in a just world would win an Oscar for Best Short Film for the video masterpiece in which she attempts Dalgona coffee. Captioned “Shit don’t work,” this TikTok has everything: scenic shots, a musical number, smash cuts, comedy, tragedy, and a twist ending worthy of M. Night Shyamalan.

You can watch her attempt here.

Lizzo is all of us, in the Wild West of quarantine

Lizzo, consider a hand mixer. And for anyone else planning to tough it out making hand-whipped Dalgona, your best bet is to switch mixing hands regularly (so you can get evenly ripped) and cue up a TV show or movie, cause you’re in for the long haul. If you stream Hustlers when you start mixing, you’ll have a perfect cup of coffee by the time Lizzo starts dancing with Usher. Probably.

Amy Schumer Is the Latest Celeb to Boycott the Super Bowl

Amy Schumer isn’t afraid to get political—she’s just back from getting detained at the Kavanaugh protests, and has long advocated for women’s rights and gun control (she’s also cousin to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who’s also big on gun control). Now, following in the footsteps of Rihanna, who turned down an invite to perform at the Super Bowl, Schumer’s also stated that she’ll turn down doing any commercial that will air during the Super Bowl.

Ri-Ri was reportedly offered the halftime entertainer slot but turned it down to show support for Colin Kaepernick, who kneeled during the anthem to quietly (and peacefully) protest police brutality against the black community. He’s now filing a collusion grievance against the NFL, which he believes has conspired to keep him off the field due to his protests.

On Friday, Schumer posted a photo of herself to Instagram holding a very large wine glass, because, presumably, politics in 2018 can be exhausting. She added an eloquent caption that explained her reasoning for telling her team she wouldn’t be doing commercials for the Super Bowl,

“Friday thought. I wonder why more white players aren’t kneeling. Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders. Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit? I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri Did. I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year. I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all i got. Hitting the nfl with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them,” she wrote.

“I know opposing the nfl is like opposing the nra. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living? Stand up for your brothers and sisters of color. And the hottest thing a guy can do is get down on one knee. Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country. Anyone who says its disrespectful to our military please read up on the fact that a lot of veterans are proud of what @kaepernick7 is doing and fully support him. What are your thoughts?”

Time will tell if other celebrities join the boycott—or if Maroon 5, the band that is still around, pulls out of the halftime performance.

Taylor Swift Baked Selena Gomez a Long-Distance Birthday Cake, and It's Peak Celeb Friendship

Taylor Swift has a few key interests that we’ve heard about over the years: performing (duh), cats, and baking. Also up there on her list? Her famous squad, which is filled with a ton of celebrities you’d probably also want to hang out with. And sometimes, these interests intersect—as they did on Sunday, when she combined her love of baking and of her famous friends by making an adorable birthday cake for Selena Gomez](/about/selena-gomez), who turns 26 today (July 22).

Swift found time between her busy concert schedule to prepare a homemade (and tasty) tribute to one of her original squad members. She posted the end result on her Instagram Stories, and it’s truly glorious to behold. (We wouldn’t hate getting one ourselves, TBH.) Swfit captioned a picture of the cake she baked for Gomez: “Will distance stop me from celebrating my best friend’s bday? I MEAN I COULD BUT WHY WOULD I WANT 2.”

So cute—but now peep the cake. It’s emblazoned with a very clever “Gomez or go home,” plus a heart with “26” squarely in the center.

Gomez spent her birthday in California with friends as Swift was preparing for a show in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Grace VanderWaal posted pictures to Instagram of Selena’s surprise birthday celebrations, which involved cupcakes decorated with “Happy Birthday, Selena” spelled out in blue icing. (Note: Get friends who will commemorate your day of birth with baked goods on both coasts.)

Gomez’s California birthday crew went for lunch together on Saturday, before seeing VanderWaal open for Imagine Dragons in concert, per Instagram.

All in all, not a bad way to spend your birthday, TBH: best friends, concerts, cupcakes—especially when you’ve got your best friend in NYC doing the most for you. Happy birthday, Selena!

The Biggest Celeb Costume Trend for Halloween 2017 Is Disco Queen

There have been a lot of great celebrity costumes for Halloween 2017 season thus far. But none of them have been chicer or more popular than the 1970s-inspired disco queen looks that everyone from Kaia Gerber and mom Cindy Crawford to Amal Clooney were seen wearing over the holiday weekend.

To be fair, we’re guessing part of the costume’s popularity has to do with the fact that Casamigos, the tequila brand co-founded by George Clooney and Rande Gerber (a.k.a. husbands to Amal and Cindy, respectively), threw a ’70s-themed party in Los Angeles over the weekend. But it also makes sense that the costume is having a moment given the decade’s ongoing popularity in fashion, beauty, and pop culture. After all, who doesn’t love an opportunity to sport big sexy hair and wear something slinky and shimmery?

Check out all the groovy versions of the look below, then let them inspire your own costume come Tuesday.

Amal looked every bit the disco diva when she hit the party wearing a sparkly turquoise jumpsuit, huge hoop earrings, round sunglasses, and teased hair.

Gerber went for classic ’70s glamour with her look. The model was spotted wearing a blond wig, silver chainmail top, and iridescent blue eye makeup that’s giving us major Studio 54 vibes.

And last but definitely not least, Kim Kardashian and BFF Jonathan Cheban dressed as era icons Sonny and Cher (the latter had a disco album in 1979, after all).

Celeb Lawyer Lisa Bloom Says Representing Harvey Weinstein Was a 'Colossal Mistake'

PHOTO: Frederick M. Brown

In an explosive New York Times investigation published October 5, some incredible reporting—and many brave women—uncovered that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has allegedly spent decades sexually harassing women while apparently hushing women who might speak up with financial settlements. Days after the story broke, Weinstein was fired from his own production company and is now reported to be in a treatment center.

But before the allegations against Weinstein went public, power lawyer Lisa Bloom, who’s known for taking on women’s rights cases, was hired to advise Weinstein. Her agreement to represent him came much to the befuddlement of feminists, as well as her own mother, who happens to be Gloria Allred—a lawyer famous for taking on high-profile sexual harassment cases. (Recently, Allred’s clients have included at least 28 women accusing Bill Cosby of sexual misconduct and three women accusing President Donald Trump of sexual misconduct.) Bloom quit as Weinstein’s lawyer on October 7 and has now admitted in a Buzzfeed interview published Saturday that taking the job was a “colossal mistake.”

She’s known for representing female celebrities like Mischa Barton, Blac Chyna, Kathy Griffin, and a number of women who accused former Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly of sexual harassment. Because of her previous work advocating for women, it seemed strange when it came to light that Bloom was set to defend him—and according to a statement she posted on Twitter the day the story broke, she’d been advising Weinstein about a year before he was fired.

“As a women’s rights advocate, I have been blunt with Harvey and he has listened to me,” she said in the statement. “I have told him the times have changed, it is 2017, and he needs to evolve to a higher standard. I have found Harvey to be refreshingly candid and receptive to my message. He has acknowledged the mistakes he has made. … He is an old dinosaur and learning new ways.”

She told Buzzfeed that during her time working for Weinstein, she wasn’t aware that he’d been accused of sexual harassment. Bloom says she was told that she was hired to help him handle his anger and workplace attitude and that when she learned of the accusations she was “absolutely shocked.” It didn’t help matters, however, that the Weinstein Company was planning to turn a book of hers into a mini-series.

Bloom resigned two days after the Times story came out and tweeted, “I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein. My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement.”

In her Buzzfeed interview, Bloom explained her initial decision to represent Weinstein: “I can see that my just being associated with this was a mistake. All I can say is, from my perspective, I thought, ‘Here is my chance to get to the root of the problem from the inside. I am usually on the outside throwing stones. Here is my chance to be in the inside and to get a guy to handle this thing in a different way.’ I thought that would be a positive thing, but clearly it did not go over at all.”

Shade also seemed to come from her mother, who said that if she’d been asked to advise Weinstein, “I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sex harassment.” Allred posted a more positive statement on Facebook Saturday, however: “I would like to say that my daughter Lisa Bloom is and always has been a champion for women’s rights….Nothing that has happened in the recent past has altered my views of Lisa’s commitment to protecting and advancing women’s rights. I stand behind Lisa and support her.”

Bloom told Buzzfeed that, going forward, she won’t represent men accused of sexual misconduct, even if they claim to be innocent. She added, “I will just make the best choices I can out of every situation. I have clearly not been successful. I think anybody who does big bold things fails. And I definitely failed on this one.”
