Fans Think Selena Gomez's New Song 'Wolves' Is About Lupus


Selena Gomez has released some of the most interesting pop music this year. She kicked things off with “Bad Liar,” a plucky, stripped-down song that samples the Talking Heads’ 1977 hit “Psycho Killer.” Then, there was “Fetish,” a lush, electro/hip-hop jam with a featured rap from Gucci Mane. Now she’s hitting us with “Wolves,” an EDM collaboration with Marshmello. And if Gomez’s previous dance tracks are any indication (“I Want You to Know,” “It Ain’t Me”), “Wolves” will be a bona-fide smash.

It might be Gomez’s most personal song to date, too: Fans have picked up on a second meaning in its title that gives a clue into what the lyrics could detail. In Latin, “wolf” actually translates to “lupus,” which is also the name of the autoimmune disease Gomez opened up about having more than two years ago.

“We see you @selenagomez,” one fan wrote on Twitter, along with the words “wolf” and “lupus.” Check it out for yourself, below:

It wouldn’t be surprising if Gomez discusses her lupus diagnosis in this new song. After Gomez released “The Heart Wants What It Wants” in 2014, her music’s been incredibly forthcoming. (Look no further than a track on Revival called “Sober” for proof of this. The gut-wrenching tune is all about being in love with someone with substance abuse issues.)

Her social media has also become more transparent now—especially regarding her lupus. A few weeks ago, Gomez revealed the disease caused her to get a kidney transplant; her best friend, Francia Raisa, was the donor. “[Raisa] gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed,” she wrote on Instagram. Who knows? Maybe this song is a tribute to her.

We’ll find out when Gomez drops “Wolves” on Wednesday, October 25.

Taylor Swift Told Fans Her New Song 'Gorgeous' Is About Joe Alwyn


An FBI-level investigation ensues whenever Taylor Swift releases a new song. When “Look What You Made Me Do” came out, fans spent hours decoding the lyrics and writing theories. They did the same for the music video and also for “…Ready for It?,” her second promo single, which dropped the next week. There’s a lot to unpack with these releases, too: Swift is a crafty wordsmith. She has a knack for writing lyrics that seem obvious at first but actually have secret, mysterious meaning.

And the same thing can be said for “Gorgeous,” the track she released last night. However, fans won’t have to give up their weekends figuring out the subject of this one: Swift already spilled the beans.

Well, she (allegedly) spilled the beans to the 300 fans who attended her Reputation secret listening sessions. One of those lucky Swifties took to Tumblr and wrote, “Basically Taylor made us all promise that if anyone made any accusations of who this song is about, we tell them it is 100 percent about her angel boyfriend of one year. This isn’t a secret. She wanted us to tell people.” (Swift’s been dating actor Joe Alwyn for a year.) See their post for yourself, below:

It’s great Swift’s being so transparent about “Gorgeous,” but, honestly, the lyrics aren’t that tough to crack. “You should take it as a compliment / That I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk,” she sings at one point. (Alwyn is British.) “And I got a boyfriend, he’s older than us / He’s in the club doing, I don’t know what,” she sings again. Alwyn is 26, and the two men who Swift could be referring to as her boyfriend—Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston—are both older than him, though our money’s on Harris, considering he’s one of the highest-paid DJs in the world. Regardless, it’s pretty obvious “Gorgeous” is about Alwyn—but, hey, at least now we know for sure.

Taylor Swift Just Released an Insanely Catchy New Song Called 'Gorgeous'


Taylor Swift is single-handedly saving pop music in 2017. The 27-year-old first sent top 40 radio into a tizzy in August when she released “Look What You Made Me Do,” a slinky techno banger that’s arguably her darkest effort to date. She followed this up with “…Ready For It?,” a lighter, more summery track with rapped verses and an incredibly uplifting chorus. But that was more than a month ago, and pop has turned back into a dry, depressing wasteland. Where are the jams? Where are the anthems?

Music lovers have been stalking Swift’s social media channels for weeks, waiting for the moment when she announces the next song off her album, Reputation, due out November 10. They know she’s the only one who can deliver the goods.

And she finally has with a new, insanely catchy track off Reputation called “Gorgeous.” It’s exactly the kind of fizzy, delightful tune we need in these bop-less times. Listen, below:

Swift first teased “Gorgeous” on Instagram Thursday afternoon. “Available everywhere midnight tonight Eastern,” she wrote, along with a five-second snippet of the track (which, oddly, features a baby saying the word “gorgeous”).

Several diehard fans who’ve attended Swift’s Reputation secret listening sessions say “Gorgeous” is one of the best songs on the album. Some flat-out think it’s the best. Here’s are just some of the reactions we found on Twitter.

Sonically, “Gorgeous” is right on par with “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready For It?” It’s electronic and poppy, but slightly left of center—pushing the genre forward in unexpected, but very satisfying, ways. After listening to it, we’re more than confident that Reputation will be one hell of a ride.

A Popular Theory About Taylor Swift's Next Song Just Got Debunked


With Reputation less than a month away, Taylor Swift fans are freaking out. Actually, they’ve been freaking out for a while—decoding Swift’s new songs, music videos, and social media moves like detectives. Swifties take every action their queen makes as some kind of indication of music to come—which is why they had a full-on conniption about a commercial she filmed for UPS last month. The stuttery, electronic music playing in the background of it, when slowed down, sounds like a new single from Swift called “Rip Off the Page.” The person singing the track sounds a lot like Swift, and it fits the current EDM aesthetic she’s going for. Fans were convinced Swift sneakily embedded this song into the commercial just for them to decode.

But this isn’t true. A person on Reddit did a little digging and discovered the music in the UPS commercial is actually just generic instrumentation. They pointed to a Facebook video, which uses the exact same music, as evidence. Check it out for yourself, below:

Before you get disappointed, though, another Reddit user suggested it’s possible this video ripped this music from Swift’s UPS video. “She thinks about every detail, and I doubt that as a singer she’d have someone else’s song in the background of a commercial she’s a huge part of,” they wrote.

However, this is unlikely, because the music actually dates back to 2009—from a video called “Scratch Massive – Ghost in the Subway.” Listen to it, below. You’ll hear the similarities.

Sorry, Swifties, it looks like y’all got this wrong. But there’s a silver lining: This means Swift’s new single is still a mystery. It could be anything, and half the fun of being a fan is wondering what your fave will do next.

Taylor Swift Just Dropped a Brand New Song Called 'Ready for It'


Well, well, Taylor Swift sure has been busy today. First, the pop singer made a “very sizable donation” to the Houston Food Bank to help with Hurricane Harvey relief. Then she made a rare public appearance in Martha’s Vineyard to serve as a bridesmaid for her high school best friend Abigail Anderson. And now, she just dropped the first minute of a brand new song, titled “Ready for It.” What a benevolent queen.

According to Just Jared, the snippet played during the pre-show intro of the college football game between Alabama and Florida State. Details about when the full song will be released and available for download aren’t available yet, but that one-minute clip has made its way online for your previewing pleasure.

I’ll go ahead and say it: As much fun as I had deciphering the music video for “Look What You Made Me Do,” I’m already feeling “Ready for It” way more. “LWYMMD” pushed Taylor’s image and sound, yes, but we wanted a banger!

Taylor Swift Just Dropped Her New Song, and It's Her Sexiest Yet

Stop everything you’re doing right now: Taylor Swift just dropped her new single, and it’s friggin’ amazing.

It’s called “Look What You Made Me Do,” and it’s by far Swift’s sexiest song yet. Listen to it, below:

The track is certainly a departure from Swift’s 1989 sound.

This new song is the culmination of six days of mysterious promo. Swift hinted new music was coming on Friday (August 18) when she blacked out her Instagram and Twitter pages. However, things really kicked into overdrive on Monday (August 21) when she dropped a video of a snake’s tail on social media. Fans immediately took this as a reference to the snake emoji people started using to describe her after the Kim Kardashian-Snapchat debacle. (Remember that nonsense from 2016?) Swift followed this up with another snake video on Tuesday—and then a third one Wednesday morning.

And that’s when it happened: At 12:30 P.M. EST Wednesday, Swift revealed the name of her album (Reputation), the cover art (see below), and its release date (November 10). She also included a message that her first single would drop Thursday night, and now here we are: in pop-music utopia.

So what can we expect from this new album? The cover art suggests Swift’s new direction is darker and grittier than 1989, which took home the 2016 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Fans should still expect a pop aesthetic, but one grounded in harder beats and sonics than, say, “Blank Space.” We’re definitely on board with that.

This new music is coming off the heels of Swift winning her countersuit against former radio DJ David Mueller. (If you’re unfamiliar with that story, Swift claimed Mueller reached under her skirt and grabbed her bare bottom during a meet-and-greet in 2013. Mueller said the claims were false and sued Swift for $3 million in damages. Swift countersued for just $1—and the court sided with her.)
