You Won’t Believe How Much Actress Tiffany Smith Looks Like Meghan Markle

In just a few short years, Meghan Markle has gone from a Suits actress and lifestyle blogger to a member of the British royal family and one of the most photographed women in the world. While that, of course, must have been a wild ride for Markle herself, it also had a strange impact on someone who happens to look a lot like her: actress Tiffany Smith.

For starters, it led to a big break in her career, as she’s playing the Duchess of Sussex in Lifetime’s new movie Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. (She took over the role from another Markle doppelgänger, Parisa Fitz-Henley.)

But Smith told Glamour that even before she landed the part, she was often mistaken for Markle. “The first time it happened was when she was on Suits and started dating Harry,” she says. “People would come up to me and say, ‘Do you know who you look like?'”

Once she landed the part, Smith says she studied Markle so much that she started to take on some of the royal’s mannerisms, like her now famous hair tuck. “It’s not a real tuck, but she kind of brushes it back,” Smith explains.

Obviously, the actress playing Markle in a movie will look like her—but a closer look into Smith’s Instagram feed only further proves how much these two look alike.

See for yourselves, below.

Major kudos to the Lifetime casting department on finding Meghan Markle 3.0—and if Markle ever wants to cut off her famous hair, at least she’ll be able to see how cute it looks.

Tiffany Smith Was Always Mistaken for Meghan Markle—Now She’s Playing Her

Tiffany: One of my favorite scenes to shoot was the first time that Charlie, who plays Harry, and I had to kiss. We were in Vancouver filming, and it was really cold, but it wasn’t supposed to look cold. We lean in to do the kiss, and since Charlie is a lot taller than me, I felt a drip down my face—it was his snot. I didn’t want to embarrass him, but the closeup was snot on my face. Everyone started laughing. It was great because it immediately broke any awkwardness. Another scene I loved was anytime the entire family—Harry, William, Kate—was in a scene together.

You did a deep dive into the history of the royals. What surprised you most?

Tiffany: When you’re in the presence of the Queen, you call her “Your Majesty” the first time you talk to her. It’s “ma’am” from then on.

Sergei Bachlakov/Lifetime

Are there any of Meghan’s mannerisms that you picked up?

Tiffany: Watching her with Harry…she’s so beautiful, but she kind of looks up through her eyelashes. So that was one of the things I incorporated. She also tucks her hair—it’s not a real tuck, but she kind of brushes it back.

The film covers a lot of ground of what Harry and Meghan went through in their first year of marriage. Was there anything that happened to Meghan that was hard for you to even wrap your head around?

Tiffany: The stuff that stuck out the most to me was everything with her dad. Those were some of the hardest scenes. I’m super close to my parents, so thinking about that and how I would respond—and then being in such a public position at that point—was something I couldn’t believe really happened to her, and that she handled it as beautifully as she did. There are so many times where people are like, “Well, you’re supposed to be this. You can’t be this and this.” For me, doing those scenes helped me see she is a strong, empowered, put-together, incredible woman, who can also cry when she’s around someone she feels safe and comfortable with. That’s why I really wanted to make sure [the scenes we did about her dad] were handled as respectfully as possible.

If you could talk to Meghan or ask her anything, what would you say?

Tiffany: There’s a scene in [the first movie] where a little girl goes up to her and says she thought she would never see someone who was like her become a princess. That’s one of the biggest things that stuck out to me. So I would thank her for being such a great, incredible role model for women, but also for multi-racial or mixed girls. I grew up experiencing that world, and it’s awesome to see her get to do the things she’s done and be so joyful and positive. And I’d ask her if she has any advice for having a strong career and getting what you’re striving for.

The movie ends with Meghan and Harry as parents to baby Archie. Would you want to play her again as a mother?

Tiffany: It was a life-changing experience for me, and I can’t imagine if I did it again that I wouldn’t feel the same way. So we’ll see. We’ll see how everybody responds, and then it will be a question for Lifetime.

Why was it life-changing?

Tiffany: I’ve been acting for a couple of years now, and this is my first lead role, which is something I’ve always wanted and felt ready to do. It was one of those things where you realize, “OK, I can do that. What’s next?”

Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal airs tonight, May 27, on Lifetime. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

'A Star Is Born' Almost Starred Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith

A Star Is Born has been met with nonstop acclaim ever since its debut, which isn’t so surprising given that Lady Gaga is front and center of the project. Not only did she give the performance of a lifetime as pop singer Ally, but she basically caused a rupture in the space-time continuum with her showstopping red-carpet outfits during the press tour.

It’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role, but that could have been the case: In a recent interview, Jennifer Lopez shared that she had been in early talks to develop a Star Is Born script with Will Smith.

Speaking to Extra, Lopez addressed rumors that she and Smith had been attached to the film before Bradley Cooper came in to direct and star in the remake. “Oh yeah, Will and I talked about it and talked about developing the script,” the singer-actress-producer-icon said. “It just never took off. Projects are like that.”

PHOTO: Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures

Lopez and Smith reportedly dropped out of talks around 2013. At some point, Clint Eastwood was also looking into the project and had tapped Beyoncé and Leonardo DiCaprio about lead roles. That didn’t work out either, of course. Eventually Cooper was brought on, and he turned to Lady Gaga in a room full of 100 people, and…well, you know the rest.

Cooper and Gaga’s version of the film is the third remake of the 1937 original; subsequent versions have starred Judy Garland and, later, Barbra Streisand. Gaga was nominated for a Grammy and a Golden Globe earlier this month, and she’s considered a top contender for an Oscar this year.

Lopez says that even though the film didn’t work out on her end, she’s happy with how it’s all turned out.

“I’m really proud of Bradley, one for directing his first film…we’re friends, and watching Gaga kind of do her thing in the movie, it’s just great,” she said. “It’s perfect, just like this movie, everything happens in its own divine timing.”

Still, we can’t but wonder what the J.Lo version of Ally would have been like. Would there have been dance routines? Green Versace dresses? I guess we’ll never know.

Claire Foy Says She Actually Wasn't Paid Back for Making Less Than Matt Smith on 'The Crown'

It turns out that Claire Foy may not be getting her due after all. In an interview with Al Arabiya English published Thursday (July 26), the actress said that she has not received the back pay supposedly promised to her for the gap between her and costar Matt Smith’s paychecks. “That was what was reported that I was back-paid. I’ve never mentioned anything about it and neither have the producers. The fact that that is ‘fact’ is—not quite correct,” she told Al Arabiya English.

To recap: In April the Daily Mail reported that Foy would reportedly receive £200,000 (around $260,000) in back pay for her lead role as Queen Elizabeth II. This news came about a month after producers Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries confirmed that Smith, who played Prince Philip, was getting a higher paycheck than the woman who portrayed the queen.

“Going forward, no one gets paid more than the queen,” Mackie said at the time. Meanwhile, Left Bank Pictures, one of the production companies behind The Crown, apologized to both stars, while declining to mention whether anything would be done to retroactively address the gap.

Shortly after, Foy addressed the controversy: “I’m surprised because I’m at the center of it, and anything that I’m at the center of like that is very, very odd, and feels very, very out of ordinary,” Foy told Entertainment Weekly in March. “But I’m not [surprised about the interest in the story] in the sense that it was a female-led drama. I’m not surprised that people saw [the story] and went, ‘Oh, that’s a bit odd.’ But I know that Matt feels the same that I do, that it’s odd to find yourself at the center [of a story] that you didn’t particularly ask for.”

In the article published Thursday, Foy elaborated on those thoughts: “Yes, it’s Netflix, but it’s a British production company. It happened at the same time as it was coming out with a lot of other people that there was a lot of pay inequality across the board—in the music industry, in journalism, in every industry,” she told Al Arabiya English. “It’s across the board that it became part of a bigger conversation, which is an odd place to find yourself in.”

“I realized early on that me being quiet about it or me not thinking about it in any way, and not associating myself with it, would be harmful to me and also lots of other people,” she continued. “It’s taught me a lot, and I’m still learning about it. I have not come out the other side and know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m still learning as much as anybody else is.”

Glamour has reached out to Foy’s representative, Netflix, Left Bank Pictures, and Sony Pictures for comment, and will update this story accordingly.

Olympian Ariana Kukors Smith Sues USA Swimming, Alleges Sexual Abuse Cover-Up

Former Olympic swimmer Ariana Kukors Smith filed a civil lawsuit Monday in California against USA Swimming, the governing body of the sport, alleging that they covered up abuse she suffered at the hands of coach Sean Hutchison, the Associated Press reports.

Kukors Smith, who competed in the 2012 Olympics, first went public in February, alleging that Hutchison began abusing her when she was just 16 years old. According to CNN, she told Department of Homeland Security investigators that the abuse began in 2005 and that her former coach took thousands of sexually explicit photographs of her when she was a minor.

“I never thought I would share my story because I was able to leave a horrible monster and build a life I could have never imagined for myself,” she said in a statement at the time. “But in time, I’ve realized that stories like my own are too important to go unwritten.”

Hutchison has denied the allegations and said that the two later had a consensual relationship. In February, he released a statement through his attorney that stated, “I absolutely deny having any sexual or romantic relationship with her before she was old enough to legally make those decisions for herself. Prior to that time, I did nothing to ‘groom’ her.”

According to the AP, USA Swimming previously hired a private investigator to look into rumors of a relationship between the two in 2010, when Kukors Smith was 21. It closed the investigation without finding any misconduct.

In the new lawsuit, USA Swimming officials are accused of knowing about allegations of Hutchison having inappropriate relationships with underage swimmers, including Kukors Smith, who was 16 in 2005. It also alleges that they manipulated a background screening system to shield coaches accused of abuse. Also included in the lawsuit is former Olympic coach Mark Schubert in a mention that he failed to report “a reasonable suspicion of child abuse or endangerment.”

“Those at USA Swimming need to change the culture of protecting predator coaches over young and vulnerable athletes such as myself,” Kukors Smith said.

Max Papendieck nearly missed meeting Julia van Os at New York City nightclub the Blond two years ago. “It was one of those nights you’re like, Ah, I’m not sure if I’m going to do anything,” the Australian photographer says. Spoiler alert: He went. She approached. They kissed. “You don’t really meet people you get serious about in a nightclub. We’re, like, the exception,” says Os, a model from the Netherlands. “I would say that Max is my best friend.”

She smiled a lot,” says Crush, a gender-fluid model. “In this industry it’s hard if you’re different, and I’m very different. Amilna’s always been supportive in everything I do or want to be.” As for Estevão, who was born in Angola and became a model at 14, “Alex taught me that I’m the prettiest black girl in the world,” she says. “People told me that before, but Alex made me believe it.”

They didn’t hit it off. “We were in two different parts of our lives,” says Rastegar, a writer and film producer. Seven years later that same friend, who had briefly dated Rastegar in the interim, intervened once more. “She was like, ‘You guys should be together,’ ” Mahdara says.
