'Ocean's Eight' Trailer: Here's Your First Look at Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna in Action

Get hyped, my friends, because the first teaser for Ocean’s Eight has been revealed, and Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Sarah Paulson are here to save us all.

We don’t want to keep you waiting, so go ahead and check out the 15-second teaser trailer, below, and then we can discuss. (The full trailer comes out tomorrow, December 19.)

The teaser doesn’t reveal too much, but so far the film looks hilarious (and glamorous, of course). Overall, it seems to have all the elements that made the traditional Ocean’s franchise such a smash—but with a necessary feminist twist. It’s just one of several female-focused reboots that have happened over the past few years: 2016’s Ghostbusters was a critical hit and a remake of Lord of the Flies is also in the works, for example. Because it’s 2017, though, we’re sure people will find something negative to say about Ocean’s Eight—and star Sandra Bullock is prepared for it.

“It’s like, let’s just take a breath and let’s just see if we come up with something fun. There should be a moratorium. There should be a rule: You’re not allowed to say anything nasty until after it comes out. Obviously, that’s never going to happen,” Bullock told Entertainment Weekly.

The actress also said she and the other cast members (Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter) were quick to bond on set.

“I realized as women we have been isolated for a while. I don’t even want to touch on that other subject, but women are now taking care of each other,” she said. “We all were like, OK, let’s just take care of each other for these six months and relish this opportunity we’re being given. But we don’t want it to be just for women. This is not a man-hating. We love the men. There’s men in this movie. We love them. But this one heist needs women.”

Ocean’s Eight hits theaters everywhere on June 8, 2018.

Is Rihanna Engaged? This Photo Has Several Fans Convinced

Over the summer, Rihanna fans flipped out when photos of her kicking it with a hot Saudi billionaire named Hassan Jameel hit the Internet. To be clear, this wasn’t because Rihanna needed a man; she was doing perfectly fine without him, selling out stadiums, counting her coins, and rocking the best outfit at this year’s Met Gala. The Navy’s just rejoicing the fact Rihanna is getting her life with someone finally worthy of her time.

Rihanna and Jameel have kept their relationship hush-hush since those first photos leaked. In fact, they’re so private RiRi tried to hide him under an umbrella when they were walking past paparazzi in August. (He’s a grown-ass man, but it did the trick.) The only information we have about them is whatever details Rihanna chooses to share on social media—which are few and far between.

That’s why everyone’s currently freaking out over a photo she shared to Instagram on Thursday night (December 7). It’s a paparazzi shot that shows our queen wearing a giant ring on that finger. I think you know where I’m headed with this: Several fans now think she’s engaged. Yup.

Here’s the photo sending her followers into a tailspin:

PHOTO: Splash News

And now, some, erm, excited tweets from Navy members who think this engagement is 100 percent real.

There are some skeptics, though, like this fan who pointed out Rihanna’s worn rings on that finger before and not been engaged.

And she’s right, of course. This photo, truthfully, doesn’t mean much. We wouldn’t get too excited about this just yet. There are a million reasons why Rihanna could be wearing this ring besides an engagement. She literally has a song called “Diamonds”—this type of bling isn’t out of the ordinary for her.

Rihanna Wore $1,340 Gucci Socks With Mules

She’s given us bops, she’s launched what’s arguably the best—or at least most inclusive—beauty collection of the year, and she was honored as a humanitarian for her charity work. So yeah, 2017 was good to Rihanna. But we should also never forget that Robyn Fenty is perhaps first and foremost a fashion icon, single-handedly capable of making us genuinely consider running out to buy a massive ruffled dress to wear with sneakers. The “Wild Thoughts” singer is back at it again, proving that her sock game is unparalleled, if occasionally unattainable.

The Internet lost its collective mind when the singer posted a picture Wednesday wearing Gucci knit socks that feature a crystal interlocking G pattern—as of publish time, her #OOTD post has almost 3 million likes and a close-up shot of the socks has more than 1 million likes. Oh, and the socks cost $1,340. Casual!

Rihanna paired the sparkly white socks with pointy white mules, a simple black slip dress, a high pony, an oversized puffer jacket, and, naturally, some reflective shades and a diamond choker. It’s only a matter of time before the Gucci socks sell out (yes, even at over a grand—the power of celeb influence is #real) so if you’re looking for a last-minute holiday splurge, well, it’s probably time to get shopping.

Also of note: that RiRi’s had such an impact on fashion this year that it was announced last month that she’s set to host the 2018 Met Gala in May alongside Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace, so again—Rihanna has unequivocally won 2017, even if she didn’t wear a pair of $1,340 socks like it’s no big thing.

Rihanna Refuses to Use Trans Models As ‘Convenient Marketing Tools’ for Fenty Beauty

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty campaign is one of the most diverse campaigns we’ve seen this year. In fact, it’s one of the most diverse campaigns we’ve seen, ever. While it was a long time coming, at this point, it’s clear that Rihanna’s commitment to casting a spectrum of people has paid off—both in terms of how well Fenty products have sold (like crazy), and in how much it means for people to see themselves represented as beautiful. But as one fan recently pointed out, one of the identities not represented in Fenty’s campaigns thus far is trans women.

After the fan suggested that Rihanna change that for future campaigns, she responded in her typically transparent style and walked us through her thought process. On Instagram, she wrote, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women throughout the years, but I don’t go around doing trans castings! Just like I don’t do straight non trans women castings! I respect all women, and whether they’re trans or not is none of my business!”

She continued: “It’s personal and some trans women are more comfortable being open about it than others, so I have to respect that as a woman myself! I don’t think it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool! Too often do I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike! There’s always just that one spot in the campaign for the token ‘we look mad diverse’ girl/guy! It’s sad!”

It’s undeniable that tokenism is still an issue in advertising—let alone if folks outside the young, thin, cis, straight, Eurocentric “norm” are represented at all. That’s been changing for the better recently though, with makeup brands like CoverGirl, Sephora, and Glossier including people of all kinds. We’ve still got a ways to go, obviously, until diverse castings are no longer news, but the recent campaigns have been a step in the right direction. Given how integral Fenty Beauty has been to furthering that conversation, we’d guess it’s only a matter of time until everyone ends up in the Fenty fold. No one knows the workings of Rihanna’s mind, of course, but herself. But from what we’ve seen, she’s got our back.

This Holiday Season, Rihanna Asks: Are You 'Thottie or Nice'?

When it comes to holiday gifts, socks are normally what you get from a distant family member who doesn’t know you very well—i.e. not exactly the at the top of the wish list. But leave it to Rihanna to make socks the must-have item to unwrap this season, all by asking a simple question: Are you ‘Thottie or Nice’?

For her latest collection with Stance, the Fenty designer introduced holiday-themed socks into the mix. There are five new styles: the Fenty Prep (a simple ribbed style with her brand’s logo printed on the cuff), the Saucy (featuring stick-art “Rhenna” drinking a glass of red wine), the Pure Platinum (a knee-high, hosiery-esque shimmery sock), the Fur Fatale (also a knee-high, but with a fur trim), and, finally, the Thottie. (If you’re unfamiliar with the term… we suggest you Urban Dictionary it.) Check it out.

In her last capsule, Rihanna released socks featuring her most iconic fashion moments. Just when we thought she couldn’t one-up herself… Bad Gal delivers.

You can shop the entire collection here. The crew socks retail for $14, while the knee-high styles will set you back $22.

Should you want to buy a pair, take a cue from Drake and snap a photo of yourself contemplating life’s greatest questions. Who knows—you might catch the attention of Rih herself.

Rihanna Begs Trump to Send Aid to Puerto Rico

PHOTO: Gabriel Maseda/NurPhoto/Getty Images

For more than a week, Puerto Rico has suffered the effects of Hurricane Maria, a category 4 storm that has left the entire U.S. territory without power potentially for months, without additional aid from other countries. That changed earlier today, when President Donald Trump finally waived the Jones Act, a 1920 shipping law that would prevent non-U.S. vessels from transporting goods between U.S. ports, after immense pressure from the nation, Puerto Rico’s governor, Ricardo Rossello, and other public figures. One of them was Rihanna, who on Twitter early Thursday morning urged the president to send aid to the 3.5 million American citizens who reside on the island.

The singer tweeted a cover of Wednesday’s New York Daily News, which superimposed the headline “American Tragedy” in large block letters and “No food, no water, no power, no medical care for the dying … Puerto Rico needs more help, Mr. President!” over a photo of victims of Hurricane Maria. For the caption, Rihanna wrote, “Dear @realDonaldTrump I know you’ve probably already seen this, but I just wanted to make sure! Don’t let your people die like this.”

The tweet has since gone viral with over 50,000 retweets and 116,000 likes, bringing much needed attention to the amount of international aid that would have been denied by Trump’s refusal to temporarily waive the Jones Act. Before that, the singer had twice tweeted at the president, quoting a CBS News video of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz saying, “I know that leaders aren’t supposed to cry…but we are having a humanitarian crisis here,” and posting a link to a video from The Shade Room calling for relief efforts.

On Wednesday, the President told reporters he based his decision on business interests, saying “a lot of people that work in the shipping industry…don’t want the Jones Act lifted,” reported Newsweek. The singer has yet to comment on the President’s announcement to backtrack on his initial statement, but she did send another tweet praising former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush for their fundraising efforts.

“Round of APPLAUSE to these gentlemen for taking control of this devastating situation!!! #CaribbeanGirl #OneLove,” wrote the singer, who is from Barbados.

Rihanna is not the only celebrity who has publically called for increased aid to Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands affected by Hurricane Maria. On Sunday, Jennifer Lopez, who is of Puerto Rican descent as well as cochair of the Empire State Relief & Recovery Effort, announced she would donate $1 million to relief efforts. Earlier, she had posted a video on Instagram urging fans to donate to Puerto Rico First Lady Beatriz Areizaga’s relief fund.

While social media is a good way to spread the word, here are some other ways you can contribute to the Puerto Rico relief effort.
