The 'Ocean's 8' Premiere Might Have Been the Best Red Carpet of the Year

What happens when you bring together eight of the most famous, talented, and stylish women in show business together for one project? You make one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year—as well as some red carpet magic.

To no one’s surprise, the cast of Ocean’s 8—Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Awkwafina—arrived at the movie’s New York premiere last night looking downright stunning. Sure, they’re each known for their unique sense of style, but high fashion is also in the DNA of the film’s plot: It follows the women through a high-stakes heist at the Met Gala. So, they dressed up in their finest Elie Saab, Prada, and Givenchy threads to celebrate.

From Paulson’s neon-fringed Prada to Awkwafina’s ethereal Reem Acra, see what the Ocean’s 8 cast wore to slay the red carpet premiere.

The New 'Ocean's 8' Trailer Will Make You Really Want to Plan a Heist With Sandra Bullock

I’m just going to lay all my cards out on the table. I never really cared about the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. Something about a bunch of macho dudes robbing a casino just struck me as blah. Now I know what those movies were missing: Rihanna. And Sandra Bullock. And Cate Blanchett. And Anne Hathaway. And Awkwafina. And Mindy Kaling. And Sarah Paulson. And Helena Bonham Carter, of course.

You see, these actors are at the center of the all-female Ocean’s Eleven reboot—titled Ocean’s 8—which is why my opinion on the franchise has changed. Not only do I want to see Ocean’s 8 multiple times, I’m also now dying to plan a heist with them all.

Especially after I watched the latest full trailer for Ocean’s 8, which hit the Internet on Thursday (April 12). I’m so invested in Bullock’s character Debbie Ocean, Danny’s sister who decides to heist the annual Met Gala with the help of six other women. Meanwhile, Hathaway plays Daphne Kluger, the wealthy celebrity whose $150 million necklace Debbie wants to steal. Watch the new trailer, below:

I’m not sure what about this trailer excites me the most: Hathaway’s deliciously over-the-top portrayal of Daphne, Blanchett’s shaggy blond hairstyle, Rihanna being a computer wiz, or Paulson’s glowing presence. (The American Horror Story alum has my favorite line in one of the teasers. “This is the Met Gay-la, after all” she says to a Very Important Woman working for the event. “Gah-la. The Met Gah-la,” she corrects Paulson. That’s literally me anytime I try to be fancy.)

Ocean’s 8 hits theaters June 8, 2018.

'Ocean's Eight' Trailer: Here's Your First Look at Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Rihanna in Action

Get hyped, my friends, because the first teaser for Ocean’s Eight has been revealed, and Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Sarah Paulson are here to save us all.

We don’t want to keep you waiting, so go ahead and check out the 15-second teaser trailer, below, and then we can discuss. (The full trailer comes out tomorrow, December 19.)

The teaser doesn’t reveal too much, but so far the film looks hilarious (and glamorous, of course). Overall, it seems to have all the elements that made the traditional Ocean’s franchise such a smash—but with a necessary feminist twist. It’s just one of several female-focused reboots that have happened over the past few years: 2016’s Ghostbusters was a critical hit and a remake of Lord of the Flies is also in the works, for example. Because it’s 2017, though, we’re sure people will find something negative to say about Ocean’s Eight—and star Sandra Bullock is prepared for it.

“It’s like, let’s just take a breath and let’s just see if we come up with something fun. There should be a moratorium. There should be a rule: You’re not allowed to say anything nasty until after it comes out. Obviously, that’s never going to happen,” Bullock told Entertainment Weekly.

The actress also said she and the other cast members (Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter) were quick to bond on set.

“I realized as women we have been isolated for a while. I don’t even want to touch on that other subject, but women are now taking care of each other,” she said. “We all were like, OK, let’s just take care of each other for these six months and relish this opportunity we’re being given. But we don’t want it to be just for women. This is not a man-hating. We love the men. There’s men in this movie. We love them. But this one heist needs women.”

Ocean’s Eight hits theaters everywhere on June 8, 2018.

The 'Feisty Women' of 'Ocean's Eight' Have No Patience for Sexist Trolls

Like the rest of us, Sandra Bullock remembers all too well the nonstop stream of sexism faced by the cast of the all-female reboot of Ghostbusters last year—but she and the rest of the women of Ocean’s Eight are ready to defend themselves and their movie from any criticisms the trolls throw their way. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bullock explained why she, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, and the rest of the cast of the new installment of the (previously all-male) Ocean’s Eleven series won’t be fazed by misogynistic attacks.

Bullock, who plays Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) sister Debbie in the upcoming film, said that she’s “still trying to figure out why” Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon were the targets of so much criticism before Ghostbusters had even arrived in theaters. “Forget what the final product was! There were four or five of the most talented comedians in that film. Everyone should’ve just taken a breath and said, ‘Let’s see what happens,'” she said. “It doesn’t take just five people to make a movie. It’s pretty much like around 300. So I keep reminding everybody, if you hate my film, remember there’s another 299 people all around me.” She continued, “We’re not a reboot. We’re just a ‘this is what’s happening in 2017.’ It’s not even a passing of the torch. It’s a parallel story of another family member that was raised in the same family Danny Ocean was, and what happens when Debbie steps out of jail with all of these amazing, powerful women.”

Bullock said that the Ocean’s Eight cast has already faced “some” sexism, “but boy, I mean, I’ll tell you, we’ve got some feisty women that will fight right back.” She added, “It’s like, let’s just take a breath and let’s just see if we come up with something fun. There should be a moratorium. There should be a rule: You’re not allowed to say anything nasty until after it comes out. Obviously, that’s never going to happen.”

The Oscar winner also talked about the collaborative environment of the Ocean’s Eight set. “If there’s ever more than two women in the film there’s rumblings of, ‘Oh, they’re having cat fights,'” she said. “[But] there was nothing, because, I think, because of the unique situation of this, and because we all are trying to achieve the same thing, we bonded pretty quickly out of necessity, and just because we like each other.” She continued, “I realized as women we have been isolated for a while. I don’t even want to touch on that other subject, but women are now taking care of each other. We all were like, okay, let’s just take care of each other for these six months and relish this opportunity we’re being given. But we don’t want it to be just for women. This is not a man-hating. We love the men. There’s men in this movie. We love them. But this one heist needs women.”

Ocean’s Eight hits theaters on June 8, 2018—but the first full trailer is rumored to be released sometime this month.
