Reese Witherspoon Revealed Her Natural Hair Color on Instagram — See Photos

Sure, Reese Witherspoon is best known for her roles in films and shows including Big Little Lies, Cruel Intentions, and Legally Blonde. But the actress is also often associated with her beautiful blond hair—we personally blame Elle Woods for that.

For pretty much ever, we’ve been convinced the 43-year-old actress’s natural color was blond, but apparently, I’m sorely mistaken. Witherspoon took to Instagram recently to share a childhood photo with her fans, revealing that her natural hair color is actually brown.

The photo was posted with the caption “Mom tip: Send your kid to school with a candy necklace so she can share it with all her new friends,” she wrote. In the throwback pic, Witherspoon’s hair is a light brown with just a hint of a natural blond highlight.

While her hair color is a surprise, we also can’t help but notice that this photo of Witherspoon looks just like her 19-year-old daughter Ava. And the comment section agrees. “Is this Ava or Reece???” says one fan while another says “I don’t know if this is you or your daughter.” Genetics are amazing, aren’t they?

Over the years, Witherspoon has tried a few different hair colors, ranging from deep brown, red hues to, of course, bright blond. Considering how great each color looks on Witherspoon, it’d be hard to figure out what her natural color is were it not for this childhood photo. She can pretty much wear anything. Still, we don’t see her ditching the blond anytime soon.

Your First Look at Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's The Morning Show Is Here

We finally have our first glimpse of Jennifer Aniston’s long-awaited return to television. The Friends’ alum stars alongside Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell in the Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show. Based on CNN’s Brian Stelter’s 2013 book, Top of The Morning, in which he chronicles the rivalry between Good Morning America and The Today Show, the series has been called by Apple a “high-stakes drama that pulls back the curtain on early morning TV.” And the freshly dropped trailer proves it’s just that—with an emphasis on the drama.

While we don’t actually see any of the actors (who all star as key players on the morning TV show) in this sneak peek, we hear them argue in voiceover as the camera takes us on a tour of the studio. “Don’t you ever question my integrity in my own house again,” Aniston warns her colleagues at one point. Later, she yells, “We are doing this my way!”

At an Apple Event this spring, Aniston revealed the show would be told “through the prism of those under-slept, over-adrenalized people in front of and behind the camera.” She added, “We take an honest look at the complex relationships between women and men in the workplace, and we engage in the conversation people are a little too afraid to have unless they’re behind closed doors.”

Witherspoon—who will be reuniting with Aniston for the first time since playing her younger sister Jill on Friends—also attended the same event, where she shared thatThe Morning Show is seen through the eyes of two ambitious, aspirational female characters.”

“It’s a high-velocity thrill ride in which we pose questions without easy answers and shine a light on the fault lines in our society at this very complicated cultural moment,” Witherspoon added.

While the official premiere date for the show is unknown—it’s slated for fall 2019—Apple has already ordered a second, 10-episode season. And though little is revealed in this first trailer, it’s clear the show will be a ripped-from-the-headlines look at the dramatic, often heartbreaking news cycle Americans see every day.

Reese Witherspoon’s Daughter Is Now Officially Her Twin

Big Little Lies season two is just days away from premiering, and its stars all got together in New York City Wednesday night to celebrate. Reese Witherspoon, who produces the drama and plays one of its central characters, brought her daughter, Ava Phillippe, to the premiere, and their resemblance is wilder than last season’s jaw-dropping finale.

Phillippe joined her mother for a few photos on the red carpet, which show just how much she looks like her mini-me. Now 19, Phillippe is around the same age Witherspoon was when she shot some of her first films, like Freeway and Pleasantville. Phillippe arrived at the Big Little Lies premiere in a short black cocktail dress, with her blonde hair styled in casual waves.

Reese Witherspoon had her daughter when she was married to actor Ryan Phillippe, whom she co-starred with in the nineties classic Cruel Intentions. Phillippe started college last year, something that Witherspoon recently described as an emotional experience during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s weird when your children go away to college,” she said.”It’s hard. I might have gone into her empty room, laid down on her bed and cried when she went to college.”

Luckily, Phillippe was back from school just in time for the season two celebration, which was also attended by Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Nicole Kidman, and yes, Meryl Streep. Streep pretty much made fans lose their minds when she decided to join Big Little Lies. She’ll play the mother of Perry Wright, Celeste’s (Kidman) abusive husband who, remember, died last season after Bonnie (Kravitz) pushed him down the stairs. The second season’s first trailer and these photos all but confirm Streep’s character will be stirring things up in a major way. The season two premiere is next Sunday, June 9 on HBO.

Reese Witherspoon on How Her Skin Has Changed After Having Kids

There’s perhaps no movie star with more anticipated projects on her plate than Reese Witherspoon. From the upcoming second season of Big Little Lies to Legally Blonde 3, the 43-year-old actress/producer/CEO just keeps giving us one gift after the other. But there’s one project she has yet to announce and would be fascinating if she did: the story of Elizabeth Arden.

Witherspoon has been the face of the iconic beauty brand (or its “Storyteller-in-Chief,” as they call her) for the past two years. Although Arden passed away years before Witherspoon was born, you get the feeling this was a woman the Oscar-winner was born to play. “I love her story,” Witherspoon tells Glamour, which was the inspiration behind the Broadway hit War Paint. “She started a beauty brand [in 1910] before women even had the right to vote. We stand here because of women like her, who were bold enough and headstrong enough to start their own businesses and pave the way for the rest of us.”

So while we wait for a Witherspoon/Arden movie to materialize, the actress found another way to honor the former nurse turned business owner—an intimate garden party to celebrate the launch of two new fragrances from the White Tea Collection and the brand’s most innovative sunscreen to date. Here, she tells Glamour about the essential beauty lesson she’s passed down to daughter, Ava, the city that inspires her look, and the makeup secret that her BLL character, Madeline Martha Mackenzie, swears by.

Glamour: What’s one beauty rule you swear by?

RW: Great skin care. As you get older and start seeing wrinkles and fine lines, it’s so important to moisturize and use great products that really hydrate and take care of your skin. I clean my skin every night.

What’s one beauty rule you think is B.S.?

RW: I don’t think beauty has to be prohibitively expensive. There are great products that are very affordable. You might invest in a more expensive skin care routine, but then also buy a Revlon eyelash curler.

Speaking of, if you had $20 and free rein of a drugstore, what would you pick up?

RW: Probably a Revlon eyelash curler! I like browsing and looking at colors and new developments from different brands. I’m just very curious about beauty.

Fill in the blank: I love my hair when…

RW: I love when I get my highlights. My colorist Lorri Goddard is the best. I’ve gone to her for 15 years, and she’s taken me from brown to blond to red back to blond. I just feel better getting my hair done.

You travel a ton. What city or country inspires you the most?

RW: I love going to Rio de Janeiro. I love beautiful, bronze skin with gorgeous bronze eyes. The women are so beautiful there and the men are so handsome. There’s such a joyful attitude there. There’s music and food, and it’s about really living your life to the fullest.

You’re about to be stranded on a deserted island. What three products do you bring?

RW: Definitely sunscreen. I love the new Elizabeth Arden Great 8 Sunscreen. It’s part of the eight hour product line, and it goes on clear, so you don’t have that white ghost face. After that, I’d bring the Elizabeth Arden serum eye capsules, which I use every day, as well as the night cream, which is really good and smells delicious.

Reese Witherspoon Loves That She’s ‘Earned’ Her Gray Hairs and Fine Lines

Reese Witherspoon has basically grown up in front of the world. She starred in her first film—the wonderful Man in the Moon—in 1991, when she was just 14 years old. Now, at 43, she’s not only a successful actress but an acclaimed producer who’s helping shepherd interesting stories about all different kinds of women through the Hollywood machine.

Even though she works in an industry that has long been focused on women’s looks—and struggled to know what to do with them as they get (gasp!) older—she’s not afraid of aging. In fact, she’s proud of the physical signs of getting older. “I have a point of view because I’ve been on this planet for 43 years, and I didn’t feel that same way when I was 25,” she says in a new interview with Allure. “I didn’t have the same things to say. I’m 43 and I’ve had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with a thoughtfulness about the changes I’d like to see in the world, and…I just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like ’em. I so prefer 43 to 25.” As a fellow 43-year-old woman myself, I very much agree with everything Witherspoon says here.

But she also gets those grays touched up by her longtime colorist, Lorri Goddard, and that’s OK too. “It takes three hours to have my highlights done, no joke. I go every seven or eight weeks,” she said. “I’m starting to get gray around the edges of my hairline. Lorri doesn’t like to call them grays, though. She says they’re ‘hyper-blonds.'”

Obviously, Witherspoon has looked fabulous at every age, but she does have some beauty regrets from the nineties—including dark brown lipstick, which she wore to get her driver’s license at 16, and ultra-thin eyebrows. “In the nineties, we plucked our brows really thin. I said ‘we’…at least I did. And it just looked awful. Thank God they grew back, but, I mean, who knows what they might look like now if I hadn’t plucked them into oblivion!”

Reese Witherspoon Had the Funniest Response to Rumors She and Jennifer Garner Are Pregnant

When you’ve been mega-famous as long as Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner have, I’m guessing you probably learn to ignore most of the ridiculous tabloid headlines you glimpse about yourself. But, seeing as how celebrities are also human beings with feelings, the especially outrageous ones can still make them do a double-take—or just give them a good laugh.

Case in point: A recent cover of OK! features a photo of the two women with the headline “Baby Bombshell! Shock and Joy for Hollywood BFFs.” Of course, Witherspoon had the most perfect response to the coverline. She posted the cover on social media with the caption, “Hey @jennifer.garner! Can we raise our imaginary babies together?”

The post obviously struck a chord with other celebs, who quickly chimed in. Gwyneth Paltrow simply commented, “???” while Sara Foster said, “That’s so amazing! Congrats to both of you! How exciting!” Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote, “Only if I can imaginary babysit!” to which Witherspoon responded, “Will you be the imaginary godmother?” Ali Wentworth even offered to throw the shower.

There were also some amazing responses on Twitter where one person wrote, “I often wondered what actors thought while going thru the checkout ? haha.” Another was surprised the story wasn’t about another Jen, “Well, it’s not Jen Anniston [sic] this time, so that’s genuinely surprising. I mean, she’s been pregnant for like 10 years at least ? #DontBelieveTabloids.”

Another user replied, “Oh come on now Rheese [sic], if magazine says it’s true, than it MUST be so! What do you know anyways? Of course they know your body better than you do!! ??”

There’s obviously lots of sarcasm here, but the headline—and some of the Twitter reactions—also raises a good point about tabloids and their continued scrutiny of female celebrities’ bodies. As Jennifer Aniston’s publicist told the New York Times in January, “Every week I get these emails, ‘We’re working on a story that Jennifer is pregnant. I will say, ‘This is a complete fabrication. There’s no truth to this or this is all ridiculous and completely false.’ And they still go with the story.”

We’re guessing that if tabloids decided to finally switch off the pregnancy rumor story cycle, it wouldn’t exactly be met with disappointment in Hollywood.
