The Bachelorette's Mike Johnson Suggests Producer Julie LaPlaca Would Make A Great ‘Future’ Lead

In July 2019, before he left the show, Lovato had posted footage of Johnson on the Bachelorette to her Instagram Stories, writing in the caption, “Mike I accept your rose.” In the video she could reportedly be heard saying, “Swing me, kiss me! Boo boo.” Just a few days later, he was sent home.

Johnson took to Twitter writing, “Jus saying, my future wife though girl you ready for smiles, adventure, comfort, growth, honesty, laughter, me falling using my inhaler and kissing your stretch marks and imperfections. Where u hiding.”

The two then had some major back-and-forths with likes and comments on Instagram and Twitter before allegedly taking it offline for some IRL dates. In September 2019, Johnson spoke out about the budding relationship. “I’m just getting to know Demi,” he told E! “I think she’s absolutely fantastic, and I don’t want no pressure on her, no pressure on me—we’re just trying to get to know each other. That’s all.” Sadly, by October, the relationship was done.

Back to the present, though—maybe Johnson was flirting with LaPlaca with those comments or maybe this is just his personality. Or, a third option: what if this is all just a setup to have her become the next Bachelorette (after Clare Crawley’s season, of course) and for Johnson to re-join the cast? Either way, we’re in.

‘Bachelor’ Producer, Julie LaPlaca, Finally Addressed Those Peter Weber Dating Rumors

At least one aspect of this very tangled season of The Bachelor has been cleared up: Julie LaPlaca, the producer who was rumored to have dated Peter Weber behind-the-scenes, finally set the record straight.

During this week’s finale, Weber proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss, took it back, and started dating Madison Prewett.

Just three days later, they split, his mom weighed in, and Selena Gomez took Madison under her wing. It doesn’t feel like the show has really ended, huh?

On Friday, March 14, LaPlaca–who has kept mum since rumors that she dated the pilot during his season–also took to Instagram to answer some burning questions. She posted a photo from the same New Year’s Eve outing that seems to have kicked off all the dating speculation.

The photo shows her in Times Square with Weber, but she said nothing really went on between them. “Yes that was @pilot_pete in the tan jacket, no we didn’t kiss at midnight,” she wrote in the photo. “But, whoever ends up as his copilot for life is one lucky lady, because this guy has a heart of gold.” She added a red heart and an airplane emoji.

Things seemed pretty suspicious back in January, when Weber’s dad posted a photo from the same night that shows his family with LaPlaca’s. All it said was, “New Year’s Eve lunch with the gang at Carmine’s.”

Robert Mills, an executive from ABC, played up the relationship a bit when Entertainment Tonight asked about the Bachelor finale and rumors of LaPlaca and Weber hanging out. “Well, I hate to get in the way of a good rumor, so I’m not going to confirm or deny about whether he ends up with a producer!” Mills said. “I don’t know how we’d ever top that though! But, it is crazy.” He added, “There’s a lot of craziness, it’s a roller coaster, but I would say even now the roller coaster hasn’t ended, and it won’t end until after After the Final Rose.”

So Weber, Prewett, and Sluss are all still single, folks! But before you slide into Sluss’ DM’s, remember that she has her eye on Tyler Cameron. Now that’s a couple we can see ourselves shipping hard.

Does Peter Weber End Up With a Bachelor Producer? ABC Weighs In

Peter Weber chose the women going to hometowns on Monday night’s (February 10) episode of The Bachelor: Kelsey, Hannah Ann, Madison, and Victoria P. But if one fan theory currently floating around the internet is correct, he doesn’t end up with any of them. Instead, he falls for a producer working behind-the-scenes.

A Reddit theory posted by u/krallie gives pieces of evidence that suggest Weber finishes the season hand in hand with a producer named Julie LaPlaca. For one, Weber and LaPlaca spent New Year’s together with each other’s families (according to tagged photos). Another tagged photo, per this Reddit theory, shows LaPlaca in a Seattle Seahawks hat (Weber is a fan). And in one pic of LaPlaca from New Year’s Eve in Times Square, Weber is reportedly standing in the background. Hannah Brown, who, remember, first dated Weber on The Bachelorette, commented on said pic, “This is really cute, Jules. I approve.”

But does this hypothesis have any merit? ABC is keeping mum on it—for now.

“Well, I hate to get in the way of a good rumor, so I’m not going to confirm or deny about whether he ends up with a producer!” Robert Mills, ABC’s senior vice president of alternative series, specials & late-night programming, told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t know how we’d ever top that, though! But it is crazy.”

He continued, “What we’ve seen about the finale over the years is that the ‘finale’ is really on that night when the show goes live. There’s a lot of craziness, it’s a roller coaster, but I would say even now the roller coaster hasn’t ended, and it won’t end until after After the Final Rose.”

As a longtime Bachelor fan, I approve this theory, but I’m also keeping it real. Peter Weber’s season, from the jump, has been dramatic, and there are several theories out there about who he ends up with. Women’s Health is convinced it’s Hannah Ann based on Venmo, people! Half the fun of being a Bachelor fan is indulging in these discussions (but with a good sense of humor).

Also, for what it’s worth, trusted blogger Reality Steve says there isn’t any truth to this producer rumor. So, like most things Bachelor Nation, it looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

'Get Out' Producer Is Catching Heat for Saying Women Don't Want to Direct Horror Movies

Jason Blum is a key figure in the horror movie business. He and his production company, Blumhouse, are responsible for some of the most popular (and critically acclaimed) scary flicks of the past few years, including Get Out, Paranormal Activity, and The Purge. His recent comments about female horror directors, however, aren’t receiving the same praise.

In an interview with Polygon earlier this week, Blum said the reason Blumhouse has never hired a woman director is because female filmmakers aren’t interested in horror. “There are not a lot of female directors period, and even less who are inclined to do horror,” he explained. (Hmmm, we can think of a few.) “I’m a massive admirer of [Babadook director] Jennifer Kent. I’ve offered her every movie we’ve had available. She’s turned me down every time.” Twitter users, unsurprisingly, weren’t too keen on his comments.

Blum was later asked about his comments by Variety, and he admitted that he “totally misspoke.” “I made a mistake about it,” he said. “Our audience is 55 percent women; the executives at the company we have are 50 percent women. I am passionate about hiring women, and I totally made a mistake in the way I represented that. We already work with a lot of women…. Today was a great day for me because I learned a lot and because there are a lot of women out there that I’m going to meet as a result of today, so I’m grateful for it.” To further his point, Blum also issued an apology on Twitter, reiterating how he’ll be more cognizant of women creators going forward.

Let’s hope he stands by his word.

2018 Emmys: Producer and Director Glenn Weiss Proposes to His Girlfriend During Acceptance Speech

Producer and director Glenn Weiss arrived at Monday night’s 2018 Emmys with a few statuettes already under his belt, but he ended the ceremony with one more Emmy and a brand-new fiancée. About halfway through the show, Weiss was awarded the trophy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for his position as the director of this year’s Academy Awards. Though his acceptance speech started out fairly run-of-the-mill, it soon took a shocking, heartwarming turn.

After doling out a few thank-yous, Weiss began speaking of his late mother, whom he said would’ve been proud of his big win. “Part of my heart is broken I don’t think it will ever be repaired. But she’s in me and she always will be. Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And Mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine,” he said, before becoming visibly nervous.

“You wonder why I don’t like to ‘call you my girlfriend?’ Because I want to call you my wife,” Weiss told a shocked Jan Svendsen, who was sitting in the audience. The crowd, predictably, went wild.

Weiss then pulled an heirloom ring from his suit pocket as Svendsen made her way up to the stage. “This is the ring that my dad put on my mom’s finger 67 years ago. And to my sisters and brothers: I didn’t swipe it, Dad knows I have it, OK?” he joked. “Jan, I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?”

With tears in both of their eyes, Svendsen accepted Weiss’s proposal and gave him a huge kiss onstage. And that is what we call a Hollywood ending.

'Full Frontal' Producer Describes What It Was Like to Witness Ireland's Historic Abortion Referendum Firsthand

When producer and correspondent Allana Harkin pitched her latest segment idea to the team at Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, she says eyebrows were raised.

“Everyone’s looking at me like, ‘Allana, where’s the fun part,'” Harkin told Glamour. The pitch? To cover Ireland’s historic abortion referendum. “All I did was throw up my hands, like, ‘It’s Ireland, everything will be funny.'”

In the end, Harkin traveled to Ireland to film the segment, which airs Wednesday night, just before the May 26 vote to repeal the Eighth Amendment, an amendment voted into the constitution in 1983 which banned abortion. Irish citizens, many of whom traveled to Ireland for the vote, ultimately passed the repeal, signaling a historic change for women’s reproductive rights in the country.

While the change was celebrated by many, Harkin says she found the mood to be more solemn in Ireland.

“Everyone we spoke to said, ‘Nobody’s saying they want an abortion.’ It’s more about a woman’s right to choose and a woman’s body and her health,” Harkin told Glamour. “It wasn’t like an in-your-face kind of celebration.”

That’s reflected in this exclusive Full Frontal clip for Glamour, which shows Harkin speaking to a voter about the gravity of the amendment.

“This oppression of women is absolutely normalized here,” Karen Twomey, Founder of Global Repeal Network tells Harkin in the clip. “We are kind of addicted to oppression in this country.”

“This story was a more personal one for me, simply because of my connection to the country,” says Harkin, whose parents were born in Ireland. “I’m looking at the situation in Ireland from a woman’s point of view—this is something that affects my life and affects my daughters’ lives. And I want them to live in a world where they receive really positive messages.”

But this is comedy, after all.

“We’re punctuating the news story with some really great jokes,” says Harkin. “We’re not journalists at all, but our job is to sort of turn the story on its head and find a new way into it.”

Full Frontal airs on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. ET on TBS.
