Taylor Swift Finally Commented on the Newly-Leaked ‘Famous’ Call Footage


Taylor Swift has broken her silence on the newly-leaked “Famous” phone call footage from 2016. And, reader, her response is good.

If you took a break from the internet this weekend, let me catch you up to speed: Late Friday night (March 20), footage of what appeared to be the complete, unedited 2016 phone call between Swift and Kanye West about his song “Famous” hit the web. That track, remember, has the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous”—which Swift took issue with at the time, specifically the word “bitch.” In a 2016 interview with GQ, West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, claimed Swift approved of the lyric ahead of time, then leaked footage of the phone call on Snapchat that seemed to corroborate that. Swift was quickly labeled a liar and “snake” by people on the internet.

But this new footage vindicates Swift completely. West never mentions in the call that the word “bitch” would be used in the song. In fact, at one point in the conversation, Swift literally says, “It doesn’t feel mean, but oh, my God, the build-up you gave it. I thought it was gonna be like, ‘That stupid, dumb bitch,’ but it’s not.” So you can imagine Swift’s hurt when the word “bitch” did make it into the song.

Fans have been waiting for someone in this trio—Swift, West, or Kardashian—to make a statement about this new footage. Kardashian “liked” the tweet, below, and Swift “liked” some posts on Tumblr, but no one has said anything.

Until now. Taylor Swift is the first person to officially break their silence on the issue, taking to Instagram Stories and urging fans to focus on “what really matters” right now—helping those affected by coronavirus—instead of petty drama.

She did, however, say a few pointed words before showing fans how they can donate to the World Health Organization and Feeding America.

“Instead of answering those who are asking how I feel about the video footage that leaked, proving that I was telling the truth the whole time about that call (you know, the one that was illegally recorded, that somebody edited and manipulated in order to frame me and put me, my family and fans through hell for 4 years)…SWIPE UP to see what really matters,” she wrote.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West haven’t responded to Swift’s post. Yet. Ahhh, it feels like 2016 again.

Paid Sick Leave Is Finally Becoming a Reality. Patty Murray Wishes It Hadn't Taken a Pandemic to Get It There


Well, I’m sorry it’s come to a pandemic for them to see the reality. It is my hope that this has finally sunk in and that we move forward in a smart way. I remember talking to a Safeway employee six or seven years ago who was working in the deli department and was obviously, visibly sick. I said, “Are you okay?”

And she said, “I can’t stay home. I don’t have any sick leave.”

I remember thinking, “Oh my god, she’s sitting here in a deli.” Everybody should think of that—workers at delis, grocery stores, hotels. Wouldn’t you rather they were home getting paid sick leave than here risking spreading it to everyone else?

One of the things that’s striking to me, as a citizen, is how disadvantaged we are here in the United States—in terms of dealing with this crisis—because we don’t have some of the things, like paid sick leave, that other developed countries have. We’re suffering now because of legislation we didn’t get passed decades ago.

Without a doubt. Without a doubt. All of these things that we have been told cost too much or are too radical are now coming home to roost with this pandemic.

Do you think that’s registering, especially with your Republican colleagues who have been resistant to these kinds of federal programs?

I think it is sinking in. People used to think, “Oh, that’s someone else’s problem.” But in a pandemic like this, they realize that someone else affects them. If that person is sick, they’re making other people sick. If a business can’t function, that has an impact. These kinds of social programs and policies are good for businesses, so that we don’t end up in the situation we’re in now.

Have any of those Republicans or even Democrats who resisted this said, “You were right”?

Well, no one here is very good at saying, “Oh my gosh, you were right.” Which is fine; I can take it! But they are all of a sudden sensing the need for this. It becomes personal for every single person in this country. It’s well and good for the mandate to be out there—“stay home if you’re sick.” But too many workers know it doesn’t apply to them because they can’t afford it.

You were a preschool teacher. Other women who serve in Congress, and in particular women elected in 2018, don’t come from traditional political backgrounds. Several I can think of are former nurses or are activists or veterans. At a time like this, how valuable is it to have those voices in Washington?

I was just talking with someone about the fact that women work in professions with their mother hat on. We’re thinking about other people. This conversation happened to be in the context of our own workplace in the Senate; I find a lot of the senators are thinking about themselves, but she and I were thinking about the staffers and workers in the Senate who have to be there because we are here. These are people who themselves have families. I said to her, “You sound like a mom.” And she said, “That’s just how we operate.”

But I think overall, women do see things in terms of communities and have experiences that inform that. Women tend to be the people in their families who take kids or parents to the doctor. It’s intuitive to us to think about these things on a personal level.

After we get through this, do you think America will be ready to have a fundamentally different conversation about programs like paid leave and universal health care?

I think so. We obviously live in a country that is very dependent on private companies and profits. We all benefit from that. But the question we have to ask ourselves now is: How do we develop an infrastructure that makes sure all Americans are safe?

‘Bachelor’ Producer, Julie LaPlaca, Finally Addressed Those Peter Weber Dating Rumors


At least one aspect of this very tangled season of The Bachelor has been cleared up: Julie LaPlaca, the producer who was rumored to have dated Peter Weber behind-the-scenes, finally set the record straight.

During this week’s finale, Weber proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss, took it back, and started dating Madison Prewett.

Just three days later, they split, his mom weighed in, and Selena Gomez took Madison under her wing. It doesn’t feel like the show has really ended, huh?

On Friday, March 14, LaPlaca–who has kept mum since rumors that she dated the pilot during his season–also took to Instagram to answer some burning questions. She posted a photo from the same New Year’s Eve outing that seems to have kicked off all the dating speculation.

The photo shows her in Times Square with Weber, but she said nothing really went on between them. “Yes that was @pilot_pete in the tan jacket, no we didn’t kiss at midnight,” she wrote in the photo. “But, whoever ends up as his copilot for life is one lucky lady, because this guy has a heart of gold.” She added a red heart and an airplane emoji.

Things seemed pretty suspicious back in January, when Weber’s dad posted a photo from the same night that shows his family with LaPlaca’s. All it said was, “New Year’s Eve lunch with the gang at Carmine’s.”

Robert Mills, an executive from ABC, played up the relationship a bit when Entertainment Tonight asked about the Bachelor finale and rumors of LaPlaca and Weber hanging out. “Well, I hate to get in the way of a good rumor, so I’m not going to confirm or deny about whether he ends up with a producer!” Mills said. “I don’t know how we’d ever top that though! But, it is crazy.” He added, “There’s a lot of craziness, it’s a roller coaster, but I would say even now the roller coaster hasn’t ended, and it won’t end until after After the Final Rose.”

So Weber, Prewett, and Sluss are all still single, folks! But before you slide into Sluss’ DM’s, remember that she has her eye on Tyler Cameron. Now that’s a couple we can see ourselves shipping hard.

Grey's Anatomy Finally Revealed What Happened to Alex Karev—and It's Major


Warning: Major Grey’s Anatomy spoilers ahead.

Grey’s Anatomy fans were shocked earlier this year when it was announced that Justin Chambers, one of the show’s original cast members, would be leaving his role in the middle of the current season. In fact, once we learned the news, his final episode had already aired.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers (a.k.a Alex Karev) said. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

What would become of Alex Karev? How would the show handle a pivotal character’s seemingly sudden departure? Of the original group of surgical interns we first met back in 2005, only Karev and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) remained—along with two of their mentors, Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). This being Grey’s Anatomy, really any plot twist was on the table, including an offscreen death, which many fans feared.

But Grey’s had a happier ending in mind, or at least some longtime fans will see it that way. We learned last week that Karev was not actually taking care of his sick mother, as he had told Meredith and his wife, Jo (Camilla Luddington). Nope, he was actually reunited with none other than his long lost love and first wife, Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).

We learned all of this by way of letters Karev sent to Meredith, Bailey, and Jo. He revealed that he called Izzie when he was rallying the troops to help save Meredith’s medical license earlier this season. (After surviving cancer, Izzie left Alex heartbroken and ran off to parts unknown in season six. He eventually married Jo.) They got to talking, and Izzie told him she had used the embryos they created during her cancer battle and given birth to twins, Eli and Alexis. The couple rekindled their relationship and he moved to Kansas to be with Izzie and raise their children. ‘I’m finally exactly where I should be. I never had that before,” Karev wrote, talking about giving his children the stable childhood and family he never had.

Grey's Anatomy Finally Hinted at Alex Karev’s Exit Last Night


On January 10, actor Justin Chambers surprised everyone by announcing he was leaving Grey’s Anatomy. “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he said at the time. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.” We also learned that we’d already seen the last of Karev in the November 14 episode.

Each week since then, fans have been tuning in to see if this will be the episode we learn the fate of Alex Karev. Given that this is Grey’s Anatomy, a show that has never shied away from major character deaths, fans feared Karev would be killed off. But given the clues we got in the February 13 episode, that doesn’t seem to be where things are leading.

Karev was referenced multiple times in the episode. During a conversation between doctors Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), about yet another hospital reshuffling situation, Hunt says, “Does Karev know?” Webber replies, “He’s dealing with family issues in Iowa. I called him to tell him the place was going to close and he texted me a laughing ’til you cry emoji with a party hat.”

But the more telling clues came from Karev’s wife, Jo (Camilla Luddington). She gets into a heated conversation with Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) who asks, “Are you going through something?” Jo then reveals that she can’t get a hold of her husband. “Alex hasn’t been returning my calls,” she said. “He says that he’s going through something and he needs time. And if I didn’t know better, I’d think he was getting revenge for when I needed time. But I know he would never do that so…I’m sorry. I’m anxious.” So maybe that’s what will happen—Karev will stay in Iowa to deal with his family and his issues, never to return to Seattle. With an ending open enough that a return is possible.

The episode ends with Jo walking into the empty apartment she once shared with Alex, a telling sign of what her future likely holds. As she looks around, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo
) says in one of her famous voiceovers, “When one thing ends, something new always begins.”

But this is Grey’s, after all, so we’re not counting out a shocking twist.

The First Trailer for Taylor Swift’s Documentary, ‘Miss Americana,’ Is Finally Here


Taylor Swift‘s song lyrics have always been deeply personal, to the point that it can feel like we know her intimately. Of course, we don’t really—but come January 31, we will all be privy to other sides of the superstar when her documentary, Miss Americana, debuts on Netflix.

The first trailer for the doc dropped Wednesday, January 22. And if it’s any indication, we’re getting a behind-the-scenes version of Swift at a pivotal time in her life and career that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. It opens with Swift preparing to go onstage where “no one that I know of in the audience actively hates me.” She then tells herself to “not get dead face.”

“Throughout my whole career, record executives would just say, ‘A nice girl doesn’t force their opinions on people. A nice girl smiles and waves and says thank you,'” she says in a voice-over. “I became the person everyone wanted me to be.”

She talks about stepping away from the spotlight for a year because she thought that’s what people wanted and having to “deconstruct an entire belief system.” But there are lighter moments in the movie too, like the light-up shoes she wears in the recording studio and silly footage from her tour.

We also see some glimpses of her family, in particular her mom, Andrea, who, Swift revealed on January 21, is battling a brain tumor. “While she was going through treatment, they found a brain tumor,” she told Variety. “And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before. So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family.”

Miss Americana starts streaming on Netflix on January 31. Mark your calendars accordingly.
