What Selena Gomez Just Said About Princess Diana Will Warm Your Heart

Selena Gomez revealed many tidbits about her music and life in her new interview with Dazed (see the stunning cover, below). But one of the most interesting soundbites the singer-actor gave is that she’s a massive Princess Diana fan.

Dazed had several influential people send Gomez questions for the interview—including photographer Brianna Capozzi, who asked, “Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?” The Rare singer said Princess Diana, and her reasoning was poignant and sweet.

Princess Diana. She was such a warrior,” Gomez said. “I love everything she did. There’s this interview I will never forget where she is like, ‘I just want to be the queen of people’s hearts.’ You know, she didn’t necessarily care for all of the rules that [were imposed on her].”

Writer Emily Segal chimed in after Gomez’s response, saying she loves all the stories about how Princess Diana reportedly used to go to gay clubs in drag with her friends. To that, Gomez said, “Yeah, like, come on! She is so…. Ugh! I can’t believe it. I just wish she was here.”

Selena Gomez can no doubt relate, on some level, to the media scrutiny Princess Diana endured when she was alive. Selena says her music has been instrumental in helping her get through the harder stages of her life.

“I was dealing with fame and with being run-down, dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues that I had,” she told Dazed. “It was all a bit confusing. When [my 2019 song] ‘Lose You to Love Me’ came out, I stood back and had this moment, like, ‘Oh…this is a huge reason why I’ve pushed myself through this. This is why.’ I was able to release a song that hopefully helps to heal some people, or just lets them know they are not alone. I was actually letting it go personally and when that happened, something inside of me just left. And that’s why I am grateful for the chapters of my life. I’m not saying that it’s gonna be easy from now on, but I have a lot more strength and a lot more courage and a bigger voice to stand up for what I deserve.”

This Video of Prince Harry Fixing Meghan Markle's Ponytail Will Warm Your Heart

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s royal tour of southern Africa kicked off on Monday, September 23, and it seems like they’re having a great time. Day one of the festivities, which took place in Cape Town, included some dancing, a moving speech about female empowerment, and a viral moment involving Markle’s ponytail.

What’s that last one, you ask? Well, I’ll show you. At some point during the day, Markle and Prince Harry stopped by a workshop in Cape Town’s Nyanga township that educates children on self-empowerment, where they posed for a few pics with students. As the photographer snapped away, Prince Harry noticed Markle’s ponytail was a bit out of place, and he casually fixed it for her. The Duchess of Sussex seemed unfazed by the move and just kept smiling for photos.

Check out the sweet moment for yourself, below. The duke is always looking out! (The Markle Instagram fan account, @_duchess_of_sussex, has the footage.)

This isn’t the first time Prince Harry has done something like this. Last year at an engagement, he fixed Markle’s hair after the wind slightly messed it up:

Prince Harry and Markle will explore several parts of southern Africa on their tour, including Malawi and Angola. Here are just a few photos from their first day in Cape Town:

17 Fleece Jackets Under $50 That Basically Feel Like a Warm Hug

In September, I turned 25 years old. To celebrate my birthday, my Aunt Terri sent me a lovely card that had a crisp $50 bill inside—“spend it on something nice,” she wrote. At first, I had sights set on the extreme: Why not I ~treat myself~ and put the cash toward a fancy massage, or maybe that Insta-famous bag everyone is posting about? But my sensible, just-entered-my-mid-20s side kicked in: I placed it in my wallet, and moved on. The moment will present itself, I thought.

A week later, it did: I was picking up an online order at a Uniqlo store (it’s free, people!), when I decided to meander around the racks of fall/winter clothes. I tried on a puffer coat, a cashmere hat… Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it—a a tailored fleece jacket that I absolutely needed to have. (When you know, you know.) It was so cozy, but also neutral, so I could see myself wearing it with pretty much everything I own. My instinctual reaction was confirmed when I looked at the price tag: $39.90.

Without even thinking, I walked to the counter, handed over Aunt Terri’s $50 bill, and floated out of Uniqlo with $10 to spare. And I’ve been wearing the fleece jacket nonstop ever since, even when it’s not actually cold enough for fleece. I’ve had multiple strangers—and my dental hygienist—approach to ask about it, and I proudly respond with how much I paid for it. Now, I’ve started hunting for more under-$50 fleece to add to my closet, and have been pleasantly surprised with my findings. Check out some of my favorites (including the Uniqlo jacket that started it all, obviously), ahead.

This Puffer Jacket Is a 'Fashion Coat' That Actually Keeps You Warm

I recently went through my closet and moved all of my summer clothes to the very back, replacing them with heavier pieces for the cold weather ahead. As I was bringing out my jackets, I remembered something funny: A few years ago, during Fashion Week in February, I was waiting for a car with a fellow Glamour editor, out in the freezing cold, when she looked at me up and down and asked, “Is that coat actually warm, or is that a fashion coat?” The coat in question appeared to be thick and substantial—but she was questioning my warmth level because I was shivering, jumping up and down in an attempt at warmth. But she was onto something: It might have looked great, but my coat wasn’t actually doing its job. It was a “fashion coat.”

There comes a point every winter when it gets so cold style is thrown out the window—whether you’re in New York or in Canada, where I grew up. Everyone ends up relying on puffer jackets, which might not always feel chic but get the job done. I could never find one that checked off all the boxes for me: extreme warmth, polish, and style. I would reluctantly buy my outerwear from active brands, which were great, but made me feel like I was going skiing every time I put on a puffer jacket.

Fast-forward to yet another freezing winter morning—this time I was meeting my friend for breakfast, and she arrived wearing a bold, red puffer jacket from Aritzia’s TNA brand. Then, like my colleague had done to me, I asked her: “Are you even warm?” It was probably just a “fashion coat”—it looked way too good to be functional. But she made me try on her Super Puff…and I immediately took it back.

Soon enough I was a Super Puff evangelist. (I now own it in three colors.) The first time I wore it to the office, my coworkers immediately perked up—since we see each other so often, we pretty much know everyone else’s wardrobes, and new additions don’t often go unnoticed. I hadn’t even sat down before our accessories director started asking questions, assuming my puffer jacket was made by some expensive designer. I gave her the spiel—and not long after, she, the market director, and the accessories editor had all bought their own Super Puffs.

TNA’s signature Super Puff retails for $228. This year, the brand introduced a bunch of varieties on the style—mid- and long-length, vest, light, and extremely oversize—which widened the price range: They start at $88 for The Little Puff and go up to $298 for The Super Puff Long.

These puffer jackets are filled with responsibly sourced goose down and made with a water-repellent fabric and engineered to provide warmth down to minus-20°F. They’re the perfect marriage of function and design—from the oversize fit and removable hood to the monochromatic snap buttons, thick zipper, and my favorite: supersoft sleeves with a thumb hole. Plus, they now come in 15 matte colors, six metallic colors, and even a floral print, so there’s truly a style for everyone.

With the Super Puff, I no longer have to choose between what I want to wear and what I have to wear. It looks just as good during February Fashion Week as it does when I’m walking my dog in the snow—in other words: It’s definitely not just a “fashion coat.”

You can check them all out in the video, above, and watch Pink’s incredible reactions.

In fact, the singer was inspired to try out new melodies and renditions of her own songs after hearing some of the covers. “Who is this?! That’s better than I will ever sound,” she said in response to one of the cover artists. “Actually, now I know how it’s supposed to sound. That was incredible. Is she a recording artist that makes records and puts records out?” When someone in the background responded “no,” she said, “OK, well, that needs to change. I love that. I want to own that.”
