Queen Elizabeth II’s Brooch From Her Coronavirus Address Might’ve Had a Hidden Meaning

When Queen Elizabeth II addressed the British public about the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, April 5, she did so wearing a meaningful piece of jewelry.

According to Harper’s Bazaar Australia, experts suggest the turquoise and diamond brooch was chosen because of the color’s correlation with love, protection, and emotional balance, while “enhancing leadership powers.” The piece apparently belonged to Her Majesty’s grandmother, Queen Mary.

Per Town & Country, the brooch was gifted to Queen Mary on the day of her wedding in 1893 by the Duke of York, the future King George V. The publication suggests Queen Elizabeth II could have chosen the turquoise pin to “link” herself to her grandmother, who helped support the king during the First World War.

“I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time,” the queen said in a televised address to the nation on Sunday. “A time of disruption in the life of our country; a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all.

“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it. I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge,” she added before thanking essential workers on the front lines and those practicing self-isolation and social distancing at home.

“We can take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return,” she concluded. “We will be with our friends again. We will be with our families again. We will meet again.”

No matter what message Queen Elizabeth II hoped to send with her choice of jewels, people from all over the world were impacted by her encouraging words, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly.

According to a source who spoke to Harpers Bazaar, the two “were both moved” by the address. “They described it as not just a demonstration of experienced leadership, but also warmth, reassurance, and comfort,” the source added.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

This Photo of Princess Charlotte Has a Special Meaning for Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton just gave her first-ever podcast interview this week and gave the world insight into her life as a mom to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The duchess sate down to chat with Giovanna Fletcher on Happy Mum, Happy Baby as part of her ongoing work to foster discussions around parenting in the early years of childhood development. She talked about her own “happy childhood” and how she tries to bring the lessons she learned growing up to her own family with Prince William.

“I think the things that really resonate with me most are the simple things and actually I see that now with my own children. Life now is so busy, so distracting and actually sometimes the simple things like watching a fire on a really rainy day provides such enjoyment,” she said. “I remember that from my childhood—doing the simple things, going for a walk together, and that’s really what I try and do with my children as well because it totally strips away all the complications, all the pressures.”

There’s one photo of Princess Charlotte, in particular, that she feels captures those simple, special times. “I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and really for me it’s moments like that that mean so much to me as a parent, and I try every day to put moments like that in, even if they’re small or even if I don’t have time… but that in an ideal world is what I would like to do,” Middleton said.

Kensington Palace then shared the sweet image taken by Middleton on Instagram. Charlotte appears to be wearing one of the same outfits from the photos the Cambridges released for her fourth birthday in May, so perhaps it’s from the same shoot.

We love getting these glimpses into the royal family’s life behind the scenes. Please do more podcasts, Kate!

Selena Gomez Just Got a New Tattoo—and It Has a Very Sentimental Meaning

Selena Gomez has been busy lately. She’s been on a major promotional tour for both her album, Rare, and her role voicing a giraffe in the new Robert Downey Jr. movie, Dolittle.

But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been able to take some time for herself for activities like…getting a new tattoo. The singer/actor posted a video to Instagram revealing her new ink: the word “rare” written in script on the side of her neck. “Did it again @bangbangnyc ? rare,” she wrote in the caption. Rare, of course, is the name of Gomez’s new album which dropped on January 10, and will also be the next single to be released.

Selena Gomez’s third studio album (and first since 2015’s Revival) features a number of lyrics fans think are references to her high-profile relationship (and breakups) with Justin Bieber, though she has not said as much directly. She has opened up, however, about how personal this project is to her. “I’ve said this before, but I used to be terrified of saying anything. I would find myself protecting people that never protected me or cared for me,” Gomez told Billboard. “And I wouldn’t want to say the wrong thing, and I wouldn’t want people to think that I had any other motive, other than just being a kind person—though that is who I am and I am proud of that. I was just done, you know? Just done being silent, and I felt like I deserved to have a moment for myself, after going through so much, and throwing that all into this album. It wasn’t even a thought in my mind that I was doing the wrong thing.”

She also said she’s in “happiest place I’ve ever been in my life” so perhaps she wanted to mark the occasion permanently, as she’s done in the past. Gomez also recently revealed the tattoo on her arm was in commemoration of her kidney transplant.

You Season 2: The Hidden Meaning Behind Love and Forty's Names

You season two spoilers ahead. Consider yourself warned.

Netflix dropped the second season of its hit show, You, the day after Christmas, and it would seem—based on internet conversations—that people consumed it almost immediately in a holiday marathon. But watching the show so quickly may have caused fans to miss a few Easter eggs.

The second season takes Joe (Penn Badgley) from New York to Los Angeles as he tries to hide from his not-so-dead ex-girlfriend, Candace, who knows the truth about his stalker-y, murderous ways. He’s assumed the new identity of Will and gets a job at a very L.A. market named Anavrin (Nirvana spelled backwards), owned by the very rich Quinn family.

The Quinn twins—Love and Forty—work at the store, and Joe/Will is quickly enmeshed in their lives and becomes obsessed with Love. Their names are, admittedly, pretty wild—James Scully, who plays Forty, admitted that to Glamour last month. But they each actually have special meanings: They’re both terms used to score a tennis match.

For the uninitiated: Each game in tennis is scored in a unique way. In fact, “love” is the term for “zero”—as in a game technically begins with a score of “love-love,” though you won’t often hear it worded that way. When someone scores the first point, the score becomes “15-love,” and if the other player continues to not win any point the score would become “30-love” and then…you guessed it, “forty-love.” It’s a weird system, which is perfect for this weird family.

So what you maybe thought were just wacky names rich people in L.A. would name their children are actually…tennis-related wacky names rich people in L.A. would name their children. We even see Love and Forty play tennis together, making this revelation all the more clever.

This latest nugget has us questioning what else we may have missed this season. Looks like we’ll have to watch it all over again as we wait for that elusive third season.

Meghan Markle Is Wearing New Gold Rings A Special Meaning

There are a few things we know to be true about Meghan Markle. She’s an animal lover. (She’s the proud owner of two rescue pups and one of her royal patronages is Mayhew, an animal welfare organization that protects vulnerable animals.) She often picks pieces from brands and designers that support causes she’s aligned herself with, like female empowerment and sustainability. And she has an incredible collection of delicate rings. She combined all three last week when she debuted a brand-new accessory with an amazing backstory.

On Friday, Markle was photographed attending a a roundtable discussion with Prince Harry on gender equality at Windsor Castle with The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) and One Young World. Markle looked sleek in a red leather BOSS by Hugo Boss skirt, a V-neck Joseph sweater, and Emily Mortimer’s Hera Diamond and Gold Studs. She also wore some new bling: On her right hand, she showed off two cool new gold rings that were made by the Montréal-based company Vargas Goteo.

The brand is dedicated to supporting endangered animals around the world by donating proceeds to animal charities. According to Its website, “each collection raises awareness and contributes directly to carefully selected ocean and wildlife organization campaigns. These include anti-shark finning, manta ray conservation, coral reef restoration, anti-ivory poaching and anti-rhino poaching organizations.”

Meghan Markle’s Gorgeous Birthday Cake Had a Special Meaning

Meghan Markle just celebrated her 38th birthday this month. We’re sure Prince Harry and baby Archie made the day special for the Duchess of Sussex, since the celebration reportedly included a treat from one of the subjects in the issue of British Vogue she edited: Luminary Bakery. Markle mentioned the cake shop, which gives jobs and training to women who are experiencing poverty or domestic violence, in the magazine—so it’s especially meaningful that the bakery created a cake for Markle’s birthday.

Hello! reports that Markle chose to have a quieter birthday get-together at Frogmore Cottage with husband Prince Harry and her new baby, which of course included one of Luminary Bakery’s creations. While we don’t know what her cake looked like, we’re sure it was a great match for the duchess’s celebration based on the bakery’s gorgeous Instagram:

Last week Luminary Bakery posted a photo of the note Markle sent the business after she included it in British Vogue. In it Markle thanks the business for its work and explains why it was important to highlight Luminary Bakery. (She also demonstrated her calligraphy skills in the process, natch.)

“When I knew I would be secretly guest editing the September issue of British Vogue, including Luminary Bakery was a non-negotiable,” Markle writes in the note. “The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there—you all embody what it means to be ‘forces for change’. Thank you for being a part of this special project.”

The bakery also published a note on Instagram thanking Vogue and letting their new followers know more about what they do: “Luminary is a social enterprise working to empower the UK’s most disadvantaged women. We offer skills training in the art of baking, paid employment in our business and a supportive community to help women thrive,” the post said. It makes sense that they’d want to thank her in, literally, such a sweet way.
