Orlando Bloom Says He Was Celibate For 6 Months Before Meeting Katy Perry

Get ready for some TMI from Orlando Bloom!

On Sunday, The Sunday Times shared an in-depth interview with Orlando Bloom, where he went deep on his personal life, including his decision to go celibate just before meeting his now fiance, Katy Perry.

“I wasn’t happy,” the 43-year-old actor, who split from supermodel Miranda Kerr in 2013, shared with the newspaper. Thankfully, his friend, professional surfer Laird Hamilton, offered some words of advice. “Laird said, ‘If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out.”

“It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, ‘Who am I going to meet?’ I was suddenly, like, ‘Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends,'” Bloom added.

In the interview, Bloom revealed that he never felt as though he had ever developed a true friendship with women because sex was always a part of the equation. “I was going to do three months,” Bloom said of his original plan, “but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself.”

Yes, for those of you who were wondering, Bloom’s celibacy also included abstaining from masturbation. “It was insane. I don’t think it’s healthy,” he said. “I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there.”

Some six months into his celibacy stint, Bloom met Perry and, as you know, the rest is history. The pair announced their engagement in 2019, and just a few weeks ago, Perry revealed she is pregnant with their first child together in the music video for her song, Never Worn White.

“This kind of joy isn’t something you can put into words—or really wrap your head around. Obviously, we’ve known for a long time before going public. As you can imagine, it’s such an incredibly precious, private, yet commonplace moment to be sharing with the world,” Bloom said of the pregnancy. “The whole family is over the moon.”

Katy Perry Is ‘Blooming,’ According to Orlando Bloom's Latest Tribute to His Pregnant Fiancé

Katy Perry’s fiancé Orlando Bloom showed the pregnant pop star and their baby-to-be some love on Instagram just days after the singer announced the couple is expecting their first child, via her music video for “Never Worn White.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean star shared a gorgeous photo of Perry posing in a colourful dress at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 event in Australia, where she performed on March 7.

His sweet post marks the first time Bloom has spoken publicly since Perry confirmed the big news on March 4 in her new music video, debuting her growing belly in a stunning all-white ensemble.

She later told fans during an Instagram Live that she and the actor are “excited” about the baby, admitting, “It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I thought I would tell you guys in the best way through a piece of music.”

It was then Bloom’s turn to share his excitement over the news, captioning his sweet tribute, “My babies blooming ❤️.” Bloom also has a 9-year-old son, Flynn, with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

We see what he did there and we appreciate it. This isn’t the first time the couple has used Bloom’s last name in a bit of cheeky wordplay. When they announced their engagement in February 2019, Perry captioned her Instagram post “full bloom,” which also referenced her flower-shaped ruby and diamond engagement ring.

Following the pregnancy announcement, the “Fireworks” singer also joked on Twitter that she’s “so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore… or carry around a big purse” to hid her baby bump before revealing that the baby was planned.

“Well, it wasn’t on accident,” Perry said in a new interview with SiriusXM’s Mikey Piff. “I’m so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals that I’ve been kind of able to check off my list and dreams and the life I’ve lived thus far, and I think I’ve just been trying to create this space in my own life where I’m not running myself too ragged and like, you know, creating space for something new to happen like this. And I think we were both looking forward to this new interval of life and sharing this, so, that’s kind of how it happens, you know?”

Honestly, I’m not seeing any of that friction Perry was talking about between these two.

Katy Perry Says ‘There’s a Lot of Friction' Between Her and Fiancé Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have a lot going on these days. The couple just announced they’re expecting their first child, by way of Perry’s latest music video for “Never Worn White.” They’ve also been planning their wedding and juggling two high-profile and extremely busy careers.

Like with any other couple, all that stress can cause tension—but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. “I have consciously or unconsciously picked a partner that makes sure I keep evolving into the best version of myself,” she said during a recent On Air with Ryan Seacrest interview. “There’s a lot of friction between my partner and I, but that friction breeds something beautiful. It can breed a lot of light.”

“It’s just one of those relationships,” she continued. “I don’t know about anyone else that’s listening whatever kind of relationship they’ve had—and I’ve had many—but it’s like we basically, we get down to the mat and come back up every time.”

As long as everyone’s communicating and working through any issues, it sounds like there’s nothing to be worried about with these two lovebirds. Bloom proposed to Perry during a Bachelor-worthy helicopter ride on Valentine’s Day 2019. “It was really sweet,” she said at the time. Bloom even arranged to have their family and friends ready to celebrate as they landed.

Since breaking the news of her pregnancy, Perry stepped out in public for the first on March 7—without having to hide her baby bump with a large purse. She was rehearsing for a performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 Final in Melbourne, Australia.

So, why was the “Never Worn White” video was the right moment to make the big announcement? “Honestly, I was getting way too fat to hide it, so I was like, ‘Well, I think this song would be a great reveal! Let’s start there,” she said on Sirius XM Hits 1, per Billboard. “And that’s how I communicate things—I communicate through music.”

Orlando Bloom's New Tattoo of His Son's Name Is Spelled Wrong

Orlando Bloom, fiancé of Katy Perry and the sexiest pirate from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (don’t argue, that’s a fact), seems to have had a bit of a misstep at the tattoo parlor.

Bloom, who co-parents his 9-year-old child Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, took to Instagram to share his new tattoo: a sweet ode to his son. But then fans noticed something was off. The very cool, hella trendy tat by artist Balazs Bercsenyi is supposed to spell out his son’s name in morse code, but it…doesn’t. Before we get into what went wrong, I have some questions. What’s with this morse code renaissance? Is Bloom a member of the #BongHive? The power that Parasite has…

Anyway, back to the ink in question. On February 12, Bloom shared an artsy black-and-white shot of the sleek line tattoo with the caption, “new #tattoo can you guess who?”

If you guess “Frynn,” you’re probably good at reading morse code, like some of Bloom’s fans on the ‘gram. “If the morse code is supposed to spell out Flynn then there is a mistake,” one commenter wrote. Apparently, there’s a crucial dot missing. Who else is getting major flashbacks to the time Ariana Grande accidentally got “BBQ grill” tattooed on her palm in Japanese? Fixing that error required a removal procedure, even more ink, and some lidocaine shots for the pain. Ouch.

Fortunately, Orlando Bloom and Balazs Bercsenyi are well aware of the mistake and are going to fix it. Even better, unlike Grande’s mishap, it seems Bloom’s typo will take only a small amount of effort to rectify. “A beautiful reminder for @orlandobloom of his son,” Bercsenyi wrote in his own caption of the same picture. “Yes, a dot is missing, we know, it will be fixed :).”

All’s well that ends well, I guess. In the immortal words of that one guy’s chest tattoo in We’re the Millers, “NO RAGRETS.”

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s Relationship: A Complete Timeline

It’s an exciting day for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who confirmed on Valentine’s Day they’re engaged after three years of dating on and off.

“A shallow person will have only shallow relationships,” Bloom wrote on Instagram the day of their engagement. “Real love is not one person clinging to another, it can only be fostered between two strong people secure in their individuality. Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince wrote in a work called Wind, Sand and Stars, ‘Love is not two people gazing at each other, but two people looking ahead together in the same direction.'”

It’s been quite the ride for the couple, who first began a flirtation in early 2016 and, through several ups and downs, made their way to a proposal. Below, check out a complete timeline of their relationship:

January 2016: Perry and Bloom reportedly have a mild flirtation at a Golden Globes after-party. “Katy and Orlando had a total dance-off—it was the best part of the party,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Katy literally dropped to the floor and was waving her booty around, beckoning Orlando.” That same month they saw a production of The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey in Culver City, California, and posed for a photo.

May 2016: Us Weekly reports Bloom and Perry are an item but are consciously avoiding being photographed together. A prime example of this was at the amfAR Gala during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where they sat at separate tables.

Katy Perry Reveals the Extravagant Way Orlando Bloom Proposed

Earlier this month, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom took a more permanent step in their on-again, off-again relationship when they announced their engagement. But, gorgeous ring aside, we didn’t know many of the details…until now.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Perry revealed the extravagant way Bloom popped the question. And, as Kimmel correctly observed, there were definitely undertones of a date on an episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Here’s what happened: After a Valentine’s Day dinner, she was under the impression they were going to go see some art. Instead, the couple pulled up to a helicopter. “It was really sweet,” she says. “He asked me to marry him in a helicopter.”

However, all did not go exactly as planned inside said chopper. “We had champagne in the helicopter, and the box [with the ring] was in his pocket. He had written down everything he wanted to say in a note, you know, to divert, right? He was going to pull it out while I’m reading it,” Perry explains. “So I’m reading it, but I’m hearing that the champagne is, like, broken. The bottle’s everywhere, and I’m still looking at the note because he’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket. And it rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne. And I’m like, ‘No, I’m just reading the note. I know you’re not doing anything.'”

Needless to say, it all worked out when Perry said yes. But Bloom wasn’t finished with the surprises. After what Perry described as a James Bond-style landing on top of a building in downtown Los Angeles, she was greeted by her family and friends, who were waiting to celebrate with the couple. “He did so well,” she said. “It was really sweet.”

Watch her tell the full story, below:

Katy Perry also recounted how the two met—over a stolen In-N-Out burger at a Golden Globes party, as one does. “He stole one [burger] off of my table. I was sitting with Denzel Washington, and he took it. I was like, ‘Wait, who…oh, you’re so hot. Fine, take it.’ Then I saw him later at a party and was like, ‘How are those onions resting on your molars?’ He was like, ‘I like you.'”

From hamburgers to helicopters—it’s basically a modern fairy tale.
