Keke Palmer Says You Can Literally Never Go Wrong With These $98 Jeans

Keke Palmer might be far from the Strahan, Sara & Keke studio in Manhattan’s Times Square—but as they say, the show must go on. Palmer, a coanchor on the weekday talk show, is continuing to film episodes of the GMA spinoff from her home in Chicago, where she’s quarantined with her family. And though this not an ideal format, the ever adaptable Palmer is getting used to conducting interviews over Zoom. “It’s so crazy to me because before all of this, Zoom never mattered to any of us,” she says with a laugh. So what is Keke Palmer’s Zoom style? Is she business on top, schlubby sweats on the bottom? “Today I did beat face and a top, but that’s because the other days I looked how I usually look during quarantine,” she jokes. “I just thought people deserved to see more than that.”

Here, the musician, Hustlers actor, and breakout star of the viral “Sorry to This Man” meme shares more of the personal faves that are getting her by these days.

The last thing I bought

Makeup! During social distancing, I’ve run out of things to do with myself so I’ve decided to become my own makeup artist. I got some Nars concealer, foundation, good old Orgasm blush, a Natasha Denona palette—they’re highly pigmented, and I’m a big fan of hers—and then I got some eyelashes to play with. I don’t really do such heavy makeup in my everyday look, but I wanted some more varied options. I got so much makeup, so I’m going to be doing some fun tutorial videos soon.

NARS Orgasm Blush

Markle has touted Nars’ Orgasm Blush as giving off “a perfect rosy flush tone that brightens the face,” and the product (plus everything else on narscosmetics.com) is 20 percent off from 11/22 to 11/27.

My fave app

Instagram is still my favorite app on my phone. I love the comedy on there—Jay Versace and Rickey Thompson. I love their pages.

The best dish to cook at home

There are two things I’ve gotten really into lately; one’s a zucchini soup that’s really delicious and makes me feel healthy. And I’ve also gotten into making spaghetti bolognese. It’s not the two-hour version—it’s the quick, shortcut one. I put in whatever I want—I chop up carrots, onions, celery, zucchini, and put it all together with meat, garlic, tomato sauce and paste, and tagliatelle pasta. I really love it because it’s quick and easy for when I’m in the carb world. I get most of my recipes from Pinterest and different articles online.

My fave reality show

Love Island, honey. Love Island has come in and stole the show—specifically the U.K. version. They have their own language and a total world of their own. I’m so obsessed with it.

My feel-good song of the moment

Banks’ “Fuck ’Em Only We Know.” She’s so cool. I love that song.

The best pair of leggings

When I’m working out, I just want form-fitted. Nike has been really good at making sure everything is held in one spot. The more everything jiggles, the more difficult the workout becomes for me. So I love Nike sportwear—I have a capri pair and a pair that goes all the way to the ankles. If I’m wearing leggings for my everyday life, Forever21 or Urban will do me just fine.

My favorite scent

Hermès Musc Pallida. I’ve been wearing it for about a year now, and I think it’s unisex. It’s a perfume oil, which I like because they last so much longer since you don’t have to use as much and there’s not as much alcohol in them. I first found this in an airport while I was traveling. For whatever reason, you get to see all the really good stuff in the international areas in airport stores.

How I practice self-care

When it comes to wellness, working out plays a really big part for me. Over time it’s become more second nature to me and something that I enjoy, rather than something I have to force myself to do. Since we can’t go to the gym right now, I do a lot of body-weight exercises—push-ups, lunges, curtsy lunges, fire hydrants, squats, jumping jacks—all of the moves you can do wherever you are. That’s really important for me. I also meditate and do yoga, which helps me to stay at peace. Back in the day, I did a lot of Vinyasa yoga, and it’s done me well during this time. I can go online and find a lot of people to do yoga with, but I’ve just been doing it on my own. It really helps to keep me calm and my mind at ease.

My fave workout

I’m not afraid of weights, and I also love Pilates. I use ClassPass, which I think is such a genius app. I also dance in my free time—it’s a very fun and cheap way to get cardio in, which is quite difficult for me.

The best beauty products I use

I love Anastasia’s Brow Gel. I go for more of a bushy-natural look, but everyone has a different style that they like. I also use the Dior Pump ’N’ Brow, which I really love. It comes in a couple of different colors, and I use the dark brown. Also, sometimes when I don’t want to do too much to my eyes but still want some definition, I’ll put some of my blush on my eyelids for a natural glow.

My fave movie snack

A slushy. Even if I’m not hungry, I’ll always get that cherry slushy. It’s the best.

The fashion trend from the early 2000s that I miss the most

Bling and low-riders. Remember when bling was on every damn thing? Bling on your jeans, bling on your hat, bling on your glasses, bling on your belt.

My favorite piece of clothing

A good pair of Levi’s. I think they’re still the best jeans ever—they come in so many assorted cuts, feels, old school, new school, high-cut, low-cut. Right now I’m wearing a vintage high -ut pair that are straight boot-cut. To me, Levi’s are a standard piece of clothing to have—you can never go wrong.

A fave color to wear

I love patterns, yellow and purple—colors that really pop on my skin.

My go-to sneaker

The pair of Gucci sneakers that I got this year—they’re a collaboration with Disney and have Mickey Mouse on them. Girl, they go with everything. They’re the most perfect shoe, and they’re understated. I think you can count on certain designers to use really great materials that last a long time, but at the same time, I’m not the kind of person that wants to be like, “Louis, Louis, Louis, Gucci, Gucci, Gucci.” So what I love about these sneakers is that you can’t immediately tell they’re Gucci—they’re just a nice pair of shoes.

The romantic comedy I always watch

Brown Sugar. It was very grounded and seemed to be rooted in something very real. I’m a big fan of the writer/director Rick Famuyiwa, and I love the actors in it—Sanaa Lathan, Taye Diggs, Queen Latifah, Mos Def—a lot of good talent. And the storyline is about falling in love based on the love of music. Music brings everybody together.

Cheating Is Wrong. I'm Still Glad I Did It

Early into my marriage, my father learned that he could no longer call me on the phone and start talking openly. If my husband wasn’t home when my dad called, I’d answer the phone and say, “Hey, I can talk.” And we’d talk about the divorce we both knew I wanted, or else I’d just cry while he listened, furious and helpless. But it was rare that I answered the phone this way. My husband was always home.

We shared the most stifling homes together: first, my junior year dorm room and then, during my senior year, an apartment in downtown Annapolis that was so tiny we couldn’t even fit our sofa through the front door. We had to move it in by dragging it around the back, smashing in the glass rear door of the vacant apartment next door, and pushing the sofa through that apartment until it was free to come through the other side into ours. These were spaces that were never meant to house more than one person.

That was my husband’s position: We fought because we were jammed in unnaturally stifling circumstances, like factory-farm chickens packed so tightly that they have to be debeaked so they don’t peck each other to death. I was only a year away from graduation, at which point we’d have a second stream of income that would allow us to upgrade our space. This apartment and the fights for which it was responsible—all that was temporary. Soon, we’d move on to better things. “Tell your dad not to worry,” he’d say, which I never did.

My friends were sympathetic, but all of them put together didn’t have the resources I would have needed to leave and live alone. Plus, it would have cost me a couple thousand dollars to break our lease and put down a deposit somewhere else. Once, after a particularly bad fight, I attempted suicide. In the hospital, I knew no one would be able to see me outside of visiting hours; such was my desperation. But during the hospital visit, I was foggy and sad. When I got home, I was furious with myself. I’d wasted the last precious time I’d likely ever have to myself when I could have been hatching a plan.

In the end, I didn’t set the wheels in motion to end our relationship. Or at least it didn’t feel deliberate at the time. One day, serendipitously, my husband was too sick to join me to see a friend. I went alone, and the friend, whom I’ll call Jake, confessed his interest in me. Under any other circumstances, I likely would have shot him down, but I was starving.

The sex alone was nothing to write home about, but the whole assignation was an unprecedented hours-long span during which I felt free. Most of the time, I had nowhere to go and no money to spend when I got there. I had no option but to spend my free time with my husband, in whose presence it was difficult to imagine a future free of him. I was less thrilled by the physical act of infidelity than by the freedom it had rented for me. At Jake’s apartment, I could call my father and speak candidly to him, and I did.

“Hang on,” my dad said a few minutes into our conversation, during which Jake had put on headphones and was bobbing his head to some music. “How long can you talk?”

I barked out a laugh. Nothing was particularly funny, but a year of the nervous energy that characterized my marriage was bubbling up through the cracks any way it could. “I can talk all day,” I said, and then, still laughing, I started to cry. Jake peered over at me and hurriedly looked away. “I can talk to you all day about anything I want.”

When I got home to my husband that afternoon, I was blissed out. “Hope you’re feeling better,” I said.

Some well-meaning people want to know why I cheated and didn’t leave, and other even more well-meaning people understand why I didn’t feel like I could leave but still think I shouldn’t have cheated. I understand. And to an extent, I agree. It’s not a kind thing to cheat on somebody; it isn’t respectful. When you cheat, the other person has an understanding of your relationship that you’ve secretly decided you no longer share.

Orlando Bloom's New Tattoo of His Son's Name Is Spelled Wrong

Orlando Bloom, fiancé of Katy Perry and the sexiest pirate from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (don’t argue, that’s a fact), seems to have had a bit of a misstep at the tattoo parlor.

Bloom, who co-parents his 9-year-old child Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, took to Instagram to share his new tattoo: a sweet ode to his son. But then fans noticed something was off. The very cool, hella trendy tat by artist Balazs Bercsenyi is supposed to spell out his son’s name in morse code, but it…doesn’t. Before we get into what went wrong, I have some questions. What’s with this morse code renaissance? Is Bloom a member of the #BongHive? The power that Parasite has…

Anyway, back to the ink in question. On February 12, Bloom shared an artsy black-and-white shot of the sleek line tattoo with the caption, “new #tattoo can you guess who?”

If you guess “Frynn,” you’re probably good at reading morse code, like some of Bloom’s fans on the ‘gram. “If the morse code is supposed to spell out Flynn then there is a mistake,” one commenter wrote. Apparently, there’s a crucial dot missing. Who else is getting major flashbacks to the time Ariana Grande accidentally got “BBQ grill” tattooed on her palm in Japanese? Fixing that error required a removal procedure, even more ink, and some lidocaine shots for the pain. Ouch.

Fortunately, Orlando Bloom and Balazs Bercsenyi are well aware of the mistake and are going to fix it. Even better, unlike Grande’s mishap, it seems Bloom’s typo will take only a small amount of effort to rectify. “A beautiful reminder for @orlandobloom of his son,” Bercsenyi wrote in his own caption of the same picture. “Yes, a dot is missing, we know, it will be fixed :).”

All’s well that ends well, I guess. In the immortal words of that one guy’s chest tattoo in We’re the Millers, “NO RAGRETS.”

The Biggest Game of Thrones Fan Theories From Season 8 That Are Now Proven Wrong

Well, it’s almost over, people. After eight grueling seasons, Game of Thrones is about to come to an end on Sunday, May 19. We’ll finally know everything: who lived, who died, how that whole Iron Throne nonsense turned out. That also means no more speculation, so all those fan theories we love so much are closing up shop.

Honestly, reading Game of Thrones theories this season was more fun than watching the show—and some of them actually turned out to be true. (Others, however, held up worse than King’s Landing.) Regardless of what happened, these theories are physical proof GoT fans are the most dedicated and have a sharp attention to detail.

So let’s go through the best ones from this season and see which ones never came to pass, shall we? Careful: Spoilers ahead.

A YouTuber brought forth the idea that Petyr Baelish paid one of the Faceless Men of Braavos to die in his place so he could get the hell out of dodge. But this didn’t check out: We experienced the entire eighth season of GoT without Littlefinger, which all but confirms he’s dead, dead, dead.

This theory was delicious: It posed that the Night King only sent his army to Winterfell as a distraction for him to go to King’s Landing undetected and murder Queen Cersei. Of course, this didn’t happen. The Night King very much went to Winterfell—and Arya very much killed him.

Evidence for this was mostly rooted in the books. Unfortunately, though, no resurrected ancestors came to the Starks’ defense. Not that they needed help, of course. Please see: Arya stabbing the Night King all by her damn self.

HBO

Fans thought Dany’s trusted adviser wasn’t who she said she was, pointing to her demeanor and ability to speak 19 languages as evidence. Alas, she turned out to be just a regular gal from Astapor whose heart beats for Grey Worm.

Sadly, it was the pesky ceiling that did Cersei in—but for a while fans posited it could be Sansa. After all, Maggy did tell Cersei in her prophecy, “Queen you shall be…until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.”

Wouldn’t it have been the scam of the century if it turned out she was lying about her pregnancy, like so many fans believed at one point? (She was filmed in one scene drinking wine, after all.) But no: She actually was expecting, which made her sudden death all the more tragic.

Lena Headey on Game of Thrones season eight.
HBO

It doesn’t really matter what he did at this point. Tyrion didn’t stop Cersei from retaining her position on the throne: that ceiling did.

This goes back to Maggy’s prophecy, which states, “The valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” “Valonqar” is High Valyrian for “little brother,” so it was hypothesized that either Tyrion or Jaime Lannister would be Cersei’s undoing. But then a Redditor pointed out her unborn baby could be her demise as well, pending that he was a boy. He’d technically be the “little brother” of Cersei’s dead children. (Maggy’s prophecy didn’t say her valonqar, just the valonquar.) None of this ended up happening. CC: that damn ceiling.

Ugh, this one was just so brilliant. Its main roots were in what Melisandre told Arya back in season three: “I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me: brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. Eyes you’ll shut forever.” Arya had already murdered people with brown eyes and blue eyes, but no one with green eyes, which Cersei has. It made perfect sense, then, that Arya would be the one to end Cersei once and for all.

Even the *Game of Thrones* Actors Get Their Show Theories Wrong

The final season of Game of Thrones is fast approaching—mark your calendars for April 14. One thing that the series has delivered on since it premiered in 2011 has been the twists and turns in the story arcs of your favorite characters. These can get so extreme, it has inspired plenty of impassioned fan theories over the years. Even for the upcoming eighth season, which hasn’t even premiered, there are already plenty of predictionsabout a statue of Jon Snow, about Sansa and Daenerys’ relationship, and more. And although we do know a bit about what to expected from the last six episodes, we’re still pretty much in the dark about who will claim the Iron Throne—and, of course, which of our favorite characters will emerge unscathed. As it turns out, fans aren’t the only ones who remain clueless on the latter front: The actors themselves don’t know, either.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, told The Sunday Times that she and her mom wrote out who they thought would survive by the time the end credits rolled on the finale of the eight season. And apparently, neither of their brackets made it very far.

“I said, ‘Let’s predict the final series. You call who you think is going to be alive and who you think is going to be dead. So will I.’ And we did. And we were both wrong,” she said.

Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry Baratheon, had a similar experience. “At the top of every script there is a cast list for every character involved in that episode. A few of us were tempted to check if we were in the last one,” he told The Sunday Times. Look, Gendry’s the last surviving blood Baratheon. He’s got to have a pretty strong claim. But I don’t even trust the fact that I have the answers in my brain. It feels like you’re walking around with a secret that the whole world wants to know.”

The cast may be well aware of how everything wraps up now. Still, they admit it’s going to be an emotional experience for viewers.

“It was very, very bittersweet,” Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. “The day where we had the final read-through for the final script, it was really bittersweet. It was hard. At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, ‘End of Game of Thrones.’ As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears. There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.”

Whew. We’ll be getting the tissues ready—but at least we’re not alone in being completely off-base about some of our favorite characters’ fates.

This $12 Scar Cream From Amazon Saved My Skin After a Facial Gone Wrong

About a month ago I had a really wonderful facial that suddenly took a very dark turn. After a thorough consultation and what was perhaps the best face massage of my life, my aesthetician moved on to extractions. Now, extractions are never fun, but these were particularly painful because of congestion and an under-the-surface breakout on my forehead that required a lot of picking and squeezing.

I wasn’t surprised to have quite a bit of discomfort, but I was surprised by what felt like a needle (I had my eyes closed the whole time and my brain was in spa mode, so I wasn’t paying attention) picking and slicing at a milia (hardened pus trapped below the skin—very chic) close to my left eye. I left my facial with the glow I was promised, but I was also covered in red spots, the biggest being a dark wound where the milia was extracted.

I tried not to cry while tipping my aesthetician, and immediately canceled my plans for the evening. As soon as got home, I wiped away my tears and buried myself in research on what to do to fix this mess.

The damage before using Hiruscar

Bella Cacciatore

If it seems like I’m being a touch dramatic, let me give you some background. For some reason, my skin is a delicate flower that holds on to redness—like the temporary one you get after a facial—for years. I’ve been told by my dermatologist that this is postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, not scarring. But still, it’ll linger. At 22, I’m still working on marks I have from high school breakouts. That’s why I wasn’t thrilled to have a large wound right by my eye, which was all but guaranteed to become a red spot.

Deep in the comments section of one of my favorite sites, I came across a scar ointment from Thailand called Hiruscar. The reviews convinced me this could fix my problem, but to be safe I cross-checked with some other sites. MakeupAlley? Glowing reviews. Amazon? Tons of five stars. I’ve never clicked one-step checkout so fast.

Two days later (bless Amazon Prime in these situations), the tiny tube arrived at my doorstep. Hiruscar is a clear gel that has a very slight oniony smell (more on that in a second) and absorbs quickly. It’s not greasy or oily. For the best results, the brand recommends using it three times a day, but I’ve only been using it once.

According to Hiruscar’s website, the gel’s healing powers come from its six key ingredients. That onion smell I mentioned? It can be attributed to allium, a compound found in garlic (remember when Instagram had us rubbing garlic on pimples?) that has microbial properties that can help reduce redness in inflamed skin. Hiruscar also has aloe and vitamin E, which are well-loved for their healing and redness-reducing properties; vitamin B3, which hydrates and can improve skin elasticity; allantoin, which provides moisture and helps with cell turnover; and mucopolysaccharide polysulphate (MPS), an anti-inflammatory compound.

That was about a month ago. I’ve been applying the gel on the spot on my eye once a day, every day, and it has all but vanished. I first noticed it lighten after about a week of using Hiruscar. It’s still a little pink, but that’s still much less noticeable than my usual postblemish pigment. I’ve started using the gel on some older spots on my cheeks, in conjunction with my usual acid regimen, and have noticed a bit of lightening—nothing too dramatic, but I’ll happily take all the help I can get.
