Orlando Bloom Says He Was Celibate For 6 Months Before Meeting Katy Perry

Get ready for some TMI from Orlando Bloom!

On Sunday, The Sunday Times shared an in-depth interview with Orlando Bloom, where he went deep on his personal life, including his decision to go celibate just before meeting his now fiance, Katy Perry.

“I wasn’t happy,” the 43-year-old actor, who split from supermodel Miranda Kerr in 2013, shared with the newspaper. Thankfully, his friend, professional surfer Laird Hamilton, offered some words of advice. “Laird said, ‘If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out.”

“It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, ‘Who am I going to meet?’ I was suddenly, like, ‘Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends,'” Bloom added.

In the interview, Bloom revealed that he never felt as though he had ever developed a true friendship with women because sex was always a part of the equation. “I was going to do three months,” Bloom said of his original plan, “but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself.”

Yes, for those of you who were wondering, Bloom’s celibacy also included abstaining from masturbation. “It was insane. I don’t think it’s healthy,” he said. “I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there.”

Some six months into his celibacy stint, Bloom met Perry and, as you know, the rest is history. The pair announced their engagement in 2019, and just a few weeks ago, Perry revealed she is pregnant with their first child together in the music video for her song, Never Worn White.

“This kind of joy isn’t something you can put into words—or really wrap your head around. Obviously, we’ve known for a long time before going public. As you can imagine, it’s such an incredibly precious, private, yet commonplace moment to be sharing with the world,” Bloom said of the pregnancy. “The whole family is over the moon.”

Katy Perry Says ‘There’s a Lot of Friction' Between Her and Fiancé Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have a lot going on these days. The couple just announced they’re expecting their first child, by way of Perry’s latest music video for “Never Worn White.” They’ve also been planning their wedding and juggling two high-profile and extremely busy careers.

Like with any other couple, all that stress can cause tension—but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. “I have consciously or unconsciously picked a partner that makes sure I keep evolving into the best version of myself,” she said during a recent On Air with Ryan Seacrest interview. “There’s a lot of friction between my partner and I, but that friction breeds something beautiful. It can breed a lot of light.”

“It’s just one of those relationships,” she continued. “I don’t know about anyone else that’s listening whatever kind of relationship they’ve had—and I’ve had many—but it’s like we basically, we get down to the mat and come back up every time.”

As long as everyone’s communicating and working through any issues, it sounds like there’s nothing to be worried about with these two lovebirds. Bloom proposed to Perry during a Bachelor-worthy helicopter ride on Valentine’s Day 2019. “It was really sweet,” she said at the time. Bloom even arranged to have their family and friends ready to celebrate as they landed.

Since breaking the news of her pregnancy, Perry stepped out in public for the first on March 7—without having to hide her baby bump with a large purse. She was rehearsing for a performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 Final in Melbourne, Australia.

So, why was the “Never Worn White” video was the right moment to make the big announcement? “Honestly, I was getting way too fat to hide it, so I was like, ‘Well, I think this song would be a great reveal! Let’s start there,” she said on Sirius XM Hits 1, per Billboard. “And that’s how I communicate things—I communicate through music.”

Katy Perry Reveals the Extravagant Way Orlando Bloom Proposed

Earlier this month, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom took a more permanent step in their on-again, off-again relationship when they announced their engagement. But, gorgeous ring aside, we didn’t know many of the details…until now.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Perry revealed the extravagant way Bloom popped the question. And, as Kimmel correctly observed, there were definitely undertones of a date on an episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Here’s what happened: After a Valentine’s Day dinner, she was under the impression they were going to go see some art. Instead, the couple pulled up to a helicopter. “It was really sweet,” she says. “He asked me to marry him in a helicopter.”

However, all did not go exactly as planned inside said chopper. “We had champagne in the helicopter, and the box [with the ring] was in his pocket. He had written down everything he wanted to say in a note, you know, to divert, right? He was going to pull it out while I’m reading it,” Perry explains. “So I’m reading it, but I’m hearing that the champagne is, like, broken. The bottle’s everywhere, and I’m still looking at the note because he’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket. And it rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne. And I’m like, ‘No, I’m just reading the note. I know you’re not doing anything.'”

Needless to say, it all worked out when Perry said yes. But Bloom wasn’t finished with the surprises. After what Perry described as a James Bond-style landing on top of a building in downtown Los Angeles, she was greeted by her family and friends, who were waiting to celebrate with the couple. “He did so well,” she said. “It was really sweet.”

Watch her tell the full story, below:

Katy Perry also recounted how the two met—over a stolen In-N-Out burger at a Golden Globes party, as one does. “He stole one [burger] off of my table. I was sitting with Denzel Washington, and he took it. I was like, ‘Wait, who…oh, you’re so hot. Fine, take it.’ Then I saw him later at a party and was like, ‘How are those onions resting on your molars?’ He was like, ‘I like you.'”

From hamburgers to helicopters—it’s basically a modern fairy tale.

Rachel Bloom Writes a Love Letter to Carol Burnett

In a world short on joy, humor can be a unifier and a survival tool. In that spirit, we bring you our Comedy Issue, a month-long celebration of funny (and fearless) women and the enduring power of a good laugh. Here Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom salutes the woman who made her see the value in being herself onstage.

As I sat back down at my seat in the Beverly Hilton after winning the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a television series in 2016, I did what any millennial with a touch of ADHD would do: I checked my email. And the first thing that popped up was a message from Carol Burnett congratulating me. Not to sound ungrateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press, but that moment was my real Golden Globe.

A month or two earlier our mutual friend (and my Crazy Ex-Girlfriend costar) Donna Lynne Champlin told me Carol had asked for my email address. My response to her was, “OF COURSE YOU CAN GIVE CAROL FUCKING BURNETT MY EMAIL ADDRESS. GIVE HER MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND MY LIVER TOO.” It was laughable that Carol felt she needed permission to email me. But when I finally got to meet her, I realized that, in a wonderful way, her fame still hasn’t quite sunk in. Carol Burnett doesn’t know that she’s Carol Burnett.

She was the first comedic actor whose essence I couldn’t put into words—all I knew was that I couldn’t stop watching her. When I performed my own rendition of “Little Girls” from Annie for my eighth-grade talent show, the director told me not to copy her mannerisms. (Not because I couldn’t try—of course I did—but because she is a performer who is un-copy-able.)

I read Carol’s memoir One More Time during an eight-hour bus ride in 2009 and was struck by the fact that, like me, she had trouble booking acting gigs during her first year living in New York City. She put together her own musical showcase with women in her boarding house and got discovered singing the original song “I Made a Fool of Myself Over John Foster Dulles,” which reminded me of a song about an older gentleman that I had written called “F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury.” I had forgotten about it until I read Carol’s book. That song became a music video that got me my agent.

I realize now that this is a lot about me. Forgive me, but that’s the only way I know how to gush over an icon who has done as much for female comics as she has. If Carol hadn’t ignored the head of CBS when he said that variety was a “man’s game” in the sixties, she wouldn’t have made it possible for me—and all of my female creator-performers in TV—to do what we do. She may not ever know that she’s Carol Burnett, but at least now she knows how much I love her.

St. John blazer, turtleneck, skirt, $495; Jimmy Choo pumps, $650. Ulla Johnson dress; Ventrone Chronicles earrings, $45; M. Gemi pumps, $248. Crap Eyewear sunglasses, $79 each.

Read on for Glamour west coast editor Jessica Radloff’s interview with Carol Burnett:

GLAMOUR: Talk to me about the importance of mentoring talent like Rachel Bloom.

CB: I don’t think about it as mentoring. I just think about it as I’m a fan of hers. We’re friends. I watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Donna Lynne [Champlin], who is on the show, played me on Broadway in a play [Hollywood Arms] that my daughter and I wrote about my growing up with my grandmother and my mother. So I was watching it to see Donna Lynne and I got hooked on the show.

GLAMOUR: Did you have anyone who was instrumental to your own success?

CB: Lucille Ball. But she never considered herself a mentor. We were buddies. She was 22 years older than I, and she hired me on her show. Not I Love Lucy, but the later incarnations of that, so I was able to work with her. Then when I got my show, she came on as a guest, so it wasn’t like the years between us mattered. We were friends. And that’s what I consider Rachel.

[embedded content]

GLAMOUR: What qualities do you love about Rachel?

CB: Aside from all the music stuff, which of course I love, she’s a very talented actress. So to see what she comes up with—the lyrics and the music—is just overwhelming. And then to see her in some of the more serious scenes, she’s the whole ball of wax. Early on [in my career], I remember thinking, I want to be able to say things funny so that you can put a spin on a line and get a laugh. Because sometimes if you read it on the page it doesn’t translate as being funny. Rachel does that; she says things funny. And that’s what I admire.

GLAMOUR: Going back to the days of The Carol Burnett Show, what’s changed in comedy and what hasn’t?

CB: Funny is funny. I dare anybody to look at the dentist sketch with Tim [Conway] and Harvey [Korman] and not totally crack up today. And that’s 45 years old. So that can remain the same. What has happened I think, and I’m kind of sad about it, is that people on television want to be edgy. Sometimes a bit too much. And I’m not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but I find that some of the sitcoms today feel like they’re written by a bunch of high school boys in a locker room. They’re not clever. Look at All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Cheers…they were clever, funny, and classy. There are very few today that have that. So that’s what I’m sad about.

GLAMOUR: Were you told you were funny growing up?

CB: I wasn’t. But I never tried to be funny, so naturally I wasn’t told that. I was a very quiet student, a complete nerd in high school. I was editor of the high school paper, and a good student, so it was kind of a shock when all of the sudden I started [theater] at UCLA because I had no idea that I would ever wind up like this. At all. There should be no hurry to decide [what you want to do in life]. Let it happen.

Rachel Bloom is the cocreator and star of CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Watch Carol Burnett now in Netflix’s A Little Help With Carol Burnett.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Just Reunited on a Tropical Vacation in the Maldives

Even though Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom ended their romantic relationship about a year ago, it seems their connection is definitely not gone. The exes were spotted on vacation together in the Maldives this week, hanging out and enjoying the warm weather.

According to E! News, a source confirmed, “Katy was in Dubai and then stopped over in Maldives where she met up with Orlando.” She was just a few hours away, so she swung by to catch up with her old flame. What a life.

“Katy and Orlando have never lost touch and it’s nothing serious,” according to an E! News source. “They keep in contact frequently, and Orlando is understanding of her crazy schedule right now. It’s pretty casual between the two.”

Someone even caught the pair grabbing a bite together despite their baseball cap disguises.

After the two split last February, Perry cleared up rumors about any bad blood between them saying, “U can still b friends & love ur former partners! No one’s a victim or a villain.”

This isn’t the first time Perry and Bloom have been seen together since their split. In August, they went to an Ed Sheeran concert together and were spotted kissing and holding hands.

“Well, you know, I think people are in and out of your life,” she explained on “The Morning Mashup” at the time, according to People. “It’s nice to keep people you love around you. When you get older, lines get blurred. And you know what, I’m really busy. I’m about to go on tour for another year.”

If “keeping it cool” involves a quick swing by the Maldives, that actually kinda sounds ideal.

Celeb Lawyer Lisa Bloom Says Representing Harvey Weinstein Was a 'Colossal Mistake'

PHOTO: Frederick M. Brown

In an explosive New York Times investigation published October 5, some incredible reporting—and many brave women—uncovered that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has allegedly spent decades sexually harassing women while apparently hushing women who might speak up with financial settlements. Days after the story broke, Weinstein was fired from his own production company and is now reported to be in a treatment center.

But before the allegations against Weinstein went public, power lawyer Lisa Bloom, who’s known for taking on women’s rights cases, was hired to advise Weinstein. Her agreement to represent him came much to the befuddlement of feminists, as well as her own mother, who happens to be Gloria Allred—a lawyer famous for taking on high-profile sexual harassment cases. (Recently, Allred’s clients have included at least 28 women accusing Bill Cosby of sexual misconduct and three women accusing President Donald Trump of sexual misconduct.) Bloom quit as Weinstein’s lawyer on October 7 and has now admitted in a Buzzfeed interview published Saturday that taking the job was a “colossal mistake.”

She’s known for representing female celebrities like Mischa Barton, Blac Chyna, Kathy Griffin, and a number of women who accused former Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly of sexual harassment. Because of her previous work advocating for women, it seemed strange when it came to light that Bloom was set to defend him—and according to a statement she posted on Twitter the day the story broke, she’d been advising Weinstein about a year before he was fired.

“As a women’s rights advocate, I have been blunt with Harvey and he has listened to me,” she said in the statement. “I have told him the times have changed, it is 2017, and he needs to evolve to a higher standard. I have found Harvey to be refreshingly candid and receptive to my message. He has acknowledged the mistakes he has made. … He is an old dinosaur and learning new ways.”

She told Buzzfeed that during her time working for Weinstein, she wasn’t aware that he’d been accused of sexual harassment. Bloom says she was told that she was hired to help him handle his anger and workplace attitude and that when she learned of the accusations she was “absolutely shocked.” It didn’t help matters, however, that the Weinstein Company was planning to turn a book of hers into a mini-series.

Bloom resigned two days after the Times story came out and tweeted, “I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein. My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement.”

In her Buzzfeed interview, Bloom explained her initial decision to represent Weinstein: “I can see that my just being associated with this was a mistake. All I can say is, from my perspective, I thought, ‘Here is my chance to get to the root of the problem from the inside. I am usually on the outside throwing stones. Here is my chance to be in the inside and to get a guy to handle this thing in a different way.’ I thought that would be a positive thing, but clearly it did not go over at all.”

Shade also seemed to come from her mother, who said that if she’d been asked to advise Weinstein, “I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sex harassment.” Allred posted a more positive statement on Facebook Saturday, however: “I would like to say that my daughter Lisa Bloom is and always has been a champion for women’s rights….Nothing that has happened in the recent past has altered my views of Lisa’s commitment to protecting and advancing women’s rights. I stand behind Lisa and support her.”

Bloom told Buzzfeed that, going forward, she won’t represent men accused of sexual misconduct, even if they claim to be innocent. She added, “I will just make the best choices I can out of every situation. I have clearly not been successful. I think anybody who does big bold things fails. And I definitely failed on this one.”
