Eva Mendes Just Gave a Rare Interview About Ryan Gosling


Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are a notoriously private couple, so it’s exciting when either of them opens up about their relationship. Mendes last did this in February, talking specifically about how her family celebrates their Cuban heritage. But in a new interview with Women’s Health, the actress gives a little more insight into her relationship with Gosling. Spoiler alert: They’re still very much in love.

In fact, it was Mendes’ love for Gosling that changed her mind about having children in the first place. (The couple has two daughters, Esmeralda and Amanda.) “It was the furthest thing from my mind,” Mendes tells Women’s Health about having kids. Then, she says, “Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”

Fast-forward several years, and Gosling and Mendes are parenting pros, though she says they’re “just starting to get out of survival mode”: “I’m starting to feel like a person again.”

She credits both her and Gosling’s families for helping them through this “survival mode.” “We have an amazing support group: Ryan’s mom, my mom, Ryan’s and my sisters,” Mendes says. “It’s a village that helped us. My heart goes out to women who do this alone. I basically come from a single-parent household; although I love my dad, my mom mostly raised four of us on her own.”

Gosling gives Mendes plenty of credit too. In his acceptance speech for La La Land at the 2017 Golden Globes, he thanked her for raising their daughter and carrying their second while he was filming. All this happened in tandem with Mendes’ brother, Juan Carlos, fighting—and losing—a battle with cancer. Gosling ultimately dedicated his award to Juan.

Watching this on screen, Mendes says, was “like a dream.” “What I heard was that he said my brother’s name. It was the most beautiful gesture, and I had no idea Ryan was going to say it.”

This New Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams Interview Adds Fuel to a Big ‘Game of Thrones’ Theory


When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is, Who’s going to win the Iron Throne on Game of Thrones? OK, that’s an exaggeration, but I am curious, as are the millions of people who watch Game of Thrones. Last week we published a theory positing that it’s Daenerys Targaryen who ends up on the Iron Throne when it’s all said and done. But it’s a new day, and there’s a new theory suggesting that—wait for it—Sansa Stark nabs the throne by the series finale.

The evidence? A new Rolling Stone interview with Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Maisie Williams (Arya). What Turner says and Rolling Stone writes both suggest things turn out well for Sansa in the GoT finale. Read this excerpt, below:

“The things that girl has gone through are just unbelievable and
awful,” [Turner] says. Sansa’s was a slow journey toward mastery of her
environment; she was always smarter than she might have seemed, with
Turner showing us just how acutely she examined her world through
crystalline blue eyes.

This might not seem like much, but pair it with this excerpt in which we learn Turner was so happy with the GoT ending, she hung up the storyboard of the final scene in her house:

She was particularly moved when [showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] presented her with a
storyboard of their favorite Sansa scene, which happened to be her
very last scene of the entire show. Tur­ner already has it hanging at
home; no one’s noticed.

So what in that scene was so exciting it propelled Turner to display it proudly? Winning the Iron Throne, perhaps? At this point, it’s the only explanation that comes to my mind.

Of course, this is all hearsay, but compare it with what Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) said last year about how Game of Thrones ends for her character. “It fucked me up,” she told Vanity Fair. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is.”

It’s clear from this Clarke is not pleased with Daenerys’ trajectory, which means the Iron Throne probably isn’t in her cards. That leaves it wide open for Sansa Stark, and I hope she claims it.

We’ll find out the answer for sure when Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 14, at 8:00 P.M. on HBO.

Melissa McCarthy Says Someone Actually Asked About Her ‘Tremendous Size’ in an Interview


In a new interview with InStyle magazine, Melissa McCarthy opens up about the body-shaming she experienced early on in her career. After her breakout role in 2011’s Bridesmaids, the actress says she became a target for offensive questions at press junkets. During one instance, McCarthy recalls a journalist flat-out calling her “grotesque.”

“Years ago, I was at a press conference for either The Heat or Tammy and somebody from a very big organization kept asking me, ‘Why do you always feel the need to be so grotesque?’” McCarthy tells InStyle. “It was a huge interview with maybe 100 people in the room and he was sneering.”

She remained calm, though. “What are we talking about? I can’t answer your question because I don’t understand it,” McCarthy said in response to the reporter. He then said, “You look sloppy, you’re not wearing any makeup, your hair is not done, you’re yelling at people.”

McCarthy took this opportunity to point out the double standard between men and women on film. “I was like, ‘OK, so have you ever asked this of a guy? I’m playing a character. You need to get out more if you don’t think there are real women like that,’” she said. “[The journalist] goes, ‘Oh, fine, I’m aggressive, call it whatever you want. If you don’t want to answer the questions, you shouldn’t come to the panel.’”

But the Can You Ever Forgive Me? actress didn’t back down. “I was like, ‘I really want to answer your questions. I’m sorry I didn’t wear makeup in a part. I’m sorry I didn’t look pleasant for you. But I also don’t think you should be here writing about movies,’” she said.

McCarthy received a similar line of rude questioning while promoting Bridesmaids seven years ago. “[The reporter] kept asking, ‘Are you shocked that you actually work in this business at your tremendous size?'” she recalls. “I just remember all the blood drained out of me. I thought, ‘With my tremendous size, I could tackle you so quickly.'”

This conversation happened on camera, but producers from the outlet assured McCarthy they’d never air the journalist’s remarks. “It happens all the time, to the point where it’s fascinating because they don’t do it to men,” she said. “Not to be a jerk or single him out, but when John Goodman was heavier, did anybody ever talk about his girth?”

Monica Lewinsky Walked Out Of An Interview After Being Asked Question About Bill Clinton


Monica Lewinsky is no stranger to media scrutiny, having endured a national scandal involving then President Bill Clinton more than 20 years ago. In the advent of the MeToo movement, she’s discussed reckoning with that moment and moving on, but on Monday the affair was back in the news after an Israeli news anchor asked her an “off-limits” question about Clinton at a public event, prompting Lewinsky to walk offstage just moments later.

Lewinsky attended a conference in Israel on Monday to deliver a speech on online harassment and cyberbullying—a cause she has taken up recently and that she discussed with Glamour last year. However, the event took a turn when she sat down for a scheduled 15-minute talk with Yonit Levi, who referred to remarks Clinton made on the Today show in June when asked about Lewinsky. (Clinton told interviewer Craig Melvin that he apologized “to everyone in the world” when asked if he offered a personal apology to Lewinsky.) When asked if she was still expecting an expression of regret from the former president, Lewinsky paused and then said, “I’m so sorry, I’m not going to be able to do this,” before getting up and walking away.

On Twitter, Lewinsky explained that there had been “clear parameters” set before the interview about “what we would be discussing and what we would not.”

“I left because it is more important than ever for women to stand up for themselves and not allow others to control their narrative,” she said via a note posted in a tweet. “To the audience: I’m very sorry that this talk had to end this way.”

Lewinsky also took media outlets to task for the way they reported the incident. In several articles, Lewinsky is described as having stormed off stage and becoming “angered” by Levi’s questions. Lewinsky clarified these characterizations, writing, “stormed? not quite. politely said i was leaving? yes. walked as fast as i could off stage in heels? yes.”

Lewinsky revisited her time interning in the White House in a powerful op-ed for Vanity Fair in which she described the post-traumatic stress that the highly publicized affair caused and questioned whether or not the relationship was truly consensual, given Clinton’s position of power. Still, she has worked to move past Clinton’s narrative being so entwined with hers, and on Monday, it was clear that she wasn’t going to let someone else steer the conversation for her.

Sophie Turner Beauty Interview: Hair Color, Makeup, and More


No one knows the life-changing power of hair color better than Sophie Turner. The 22-year-old actress and face of Wella Professionals is a natural blond, but in her biggest roles to date—as Sansa Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones and as Jean Grey in next year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix—she slays as a redhead. We had the opportunity to talk with the breakout star, who’s engaged to DNCE front man Joe Jonas, about how she uses hair color as a reflection of her emotional state and who her current girl crush is. (Spoiler alert: It’s Cardi B.)

Glamour: Will you try a new hair color once GOT and X-Men wrap?

Sophie Turner: I would definitely consider dyeing my hair brunette or something crazier like a bright pink. I’m not sure what mind-state I’ll be in once Game of Thrones ends, so I might want to stay just like Sansa and keep the red. We’ll see!

Glamour: You tend to go with classic waves when your hair is red. What’s your favorite way to style it when you’re blond?

ST: I like to leave it natural and let my hair do its own thing—I had it cut a little shorter recently, which felt edgier. All I do is put in an antifrizz balm, and I’m good to go.

Glamour: What’s your hair care routine?

ST: I use Wella Fusionplex shampoo and conditioner every other day. It protects hair from heat damage, which is amazing, because when you’re on set, it’s always being curled or straightened. And I put on Wellaplex No. 3 Hair Stabilizer mask while I tidy up my room and watch an episode of 90 Day Fiancé.

Glamour: Other must-haves?

ST: Tom Ford eyeshadow and Dior Diorshow Mascara. That’s my favorite mascara; I cannot go a day without it. And Charlotte Tilbury undereye cream. It wakes me up, gets rid of the puffiness, and deals with the bags.

Glamour: Has acting changed your approach to beauty?

ST: When I see myself onscreen with bad hair or bad skin, it affects me. The world can see it. It’s important for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep my skin and hair looking their best.

Glamour: Who’s your current beauty inspiration?

ST: I love the way Zoë Kravitz changes it up so often. Like her hair: One minute it’s short, the next she has dreads, and then she’s blond. And Cardi B is killing it. Every look is so amazing and transformative.

Roseanne Barr Apologizes for Her Racist Tweets in a New Interview


Roseanne Barr, who starred in ‘90s sitcom Roseanne and this year’s subsequent, short-lived revival on ABC, has apologized for the racist Twitter rant that eventually lead to the revival’s cancellation.

On May 29, she posted a since-deleted tweet that said, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby= vj.” It reportedly referred to an online claim that the CIA spied on French presidential candidates, with “vj” referring to Valerie Jarrett, a former Obama aide. (In the aftermath of the cancellation, Jarrett would call the tweet a “teaching moment.”)

In the subsequent days, ABC cancelled the Roseanne revival—which brought in huge ratings to the network—and announced The Connors, its spinoff, in which Barr will have no financial or creative involvement.

In her first interview since the tweet, Barr apologized for her words on Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s podcast at Stand Up NY. According to the New York Daily News, the interview actually happened two days after the initial tweets in May, but the rabbi—a friend of Roseanne—waited to release the audio until early this morning.

“I’m a lot of things. I’m a loudmouth and all that stuff, but I’m not stupid, for God’s sake, and I never would have wittingly called any black person … say they are a monkey,” she said, at times crying during the 30-minute long podcast. “I never would do that! And I didn’t do that. And if people think that I did that it just kills me. I didn’t do that, although they think I did. And if they do think that I am so sorry that I- ya know, it was so unclear and stupid. I’m very sorry but I don’t think that, I never would do that.”

“Of course, no I don’t excuse it,” she said, saying again during the interview that she was on Ambien when she tweeted. “I horribly regret it, are you kidding? I’ve lost everything. And I regretted it before I lost everything and I said to God, ‘I am willing to accept whatever consequences this brings because I know I’ve done wrong.’ I’m willing to accept what the consequences are. And, I do. And I have.”
