Netflix's Outer Banks Season Finale Recap: All Your Questions, Answered

If you’re obsessed with Netflix‘s new series Outer Banks, you’re not alone. The beachy teen drama is a perfect mix of Riverdale, Gossip Girl, and The O.C. with a little bit of The Goonies mixed in, so it’s no surprise it’s a hit both with critics and fans alike.

The show centers on John B. Rutledge (Chase Stokes), a 17-year-old who lives in the Outer Banks region of North Carolina and leads a band of not-so-rich misfits named the Pogues: JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), and Pope (Jonathan Daviss). After John B.’s father mysteriously disappears and leaves behind hints of where the Pogues can find a $400 million treasure, they set out to find it.

They’re not the only ones hunting for the gold, of course. On the other side of the spectrum, we have the Kooks, the Outer Banks’s rich elite, of which Sarah (Madelyn Cline) is a part of. Her father, Ward (Charles Esten), is also hellbent on finding the treasure, and the other Kooks in town—including Sarah’s boyfriend, Topper (Austin North), and brother, Rafe (Drew Starkey)—love undermining the Pogues whenever they can.

As you can imagine, it doesn’t take long for things to come to a head. By the Outer Banks season finale—spoiler warning—Sarah has dumped Topper and fallen deeply in love with John B. The two flee to the Bahamas, where the treasure is now located, after it’s revealed that Ward is the one responsible for the disappearance (read: murder) of John B.’s father. And there’s a new romance on the horizon, too, for Kiara and Pope.

With so many cliffhangers and no confirmed season two, we chatted with Madelyn Cline to figure out where the Kooks and Pogues go from here. She answered all our questions about the finale and then some. Read on.

Glamour: What were your thoughts when you saw where Sarah was going in the season finale?

Madelyn Cline: We have such great writers, and they’re very, very receptive to our ideas. I remember there was a point when one asked me, “Do you think you, as Sarah Cameron, would choose your family or John B.?” I remember thinking on it and telling her, “I wholeheartedly believe Sarah is 100% absolutely head over heels for John B., and I think she absolutely would get on that boat with him.” There’s one part in the show when John B. tells Sarah, “You’re all I have.” I told the writer that at that point John B. is also all Sarah has. Her world just crumbled around her, so it’s a no-brainer that she would have gotten on that boat with him and risked everything.

So what do you think will happen next? Do you think they’re going to set up shop in the Bahamas or get the treasure and come back?

In my mind, what I see is this Blue Lagoon or Castaway-type scenario where they get to the Bahamas and have the gold bars, and they live in this really romantic, Bonnie and Clyde-type Blue Lagoon world. They’re just in this honeymoon phase of, “We’ve run away from home, we’re in love, we’re in this beautiful place, and there are no problems.” I would really love to see everything they’ve been running from catch up to them. I think they might have to go back to the Outer Banks because of the Pogues and confront all the things they’ve been running from.

How do you think Sarah will process what came out about her father? Could you see them having some kind of relationship? Where do you think that relationship’s going to go?

The Schitt's Creek Series Finale Made People Very Emotional on Social Media

The rise of Schitt’s Creek as one of the most popular shows on television is very much a modern-day success story. While it had an original core audience after its American debut five years ago on the channel Pop, it became hugely popular once its first two seasons began streaming on Netflix in January 2017.

However and whenever you met the wonderfully wacky Rose family—Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis—and the many colorful residents of the titular town, you likely fell in love with them. I know I did. The show and its characters are highly meme-able and have become internet staples. And last night, April 7, fans bid an emotional farewell to it. (The final season is not yet streaming on Netflix.)

When we first met the Roses, they were incredibly out-of-touch rich people who suddenly found themselves penniless and living in a roadside motel in Schitt’s Creek, a town they’d purchased as a joke. But over the course of six seasons, the characters grew and evolved and became heartwarming, hilarious beacons of light, hopefulness, and acceptance. That made the finale even more heartfelt. While I’ll miss all the “Ew, Davids,” Moira’s weird pronunciations and wig collection, and Alexis’s perfect way of sliding a random fact from her past life into casual conversation, it’s the relationships I’ll miss most of all. As far as finales go, I think this one was pretty perfect—from Patrick and David’s wedding to the final goodbyes for the family. I’m still a weepy mess.

And I wasn’t alone, as many fans also worked out their feelings about the finale on social media:

Co-creator and star Dan Levy wrote a heartfelt note to the cast, crew, and fans ahead of the April 7th episode. “This show has been the love of my life for the past seven years,” he said. “Getting to tell these stories, build these characters, and watch them grow has been a privilege for which I will always be grateful.”

He continued, “As for our viewers, getting to share this show with you, getting to watch you champion it, tell your friends about it, herald its messages of love and acceptance with such empathy and passion… that is something I will never forget. The stories you have shared with me over the years have made me laugh and cry and feel empowered to keep making things that mean something…Thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to watch our show. I am forever grateful for this time we had together. Here’s to many more stories and many more memories, whatever they may be.”

Until we (hopefully) meet again, Roses.

'This Is Us' Season Four Finale Recap: Who Is the Mother of Kevin's Child?

Back at Toby and Kate’s house, Kevin and Rebecca have a heart-to-heart. She admits she changed her mind about the clinical trial because she began to view it as “an investment in my future.” Kevin now knows. Rebecca knows that Kevin knows. And we know that World War III is about to break out when Kevin confronts Randall. The scene that follows is one of the most intense this show has ever done. At first, Randall pretends he has no idea what Kevin is talking about, before finally admitting he needed to do whatever was necessary to give their mom the best possible chance. Kevin is furious that Randall couldn’t side with him just this once. Randall tries to walk away, but Kevin goes after him. Then Madison shows up at the house, and Kevin says it’s not a good time. Randall ends up leaving, and Madison blurts out that she’s pregnant. “You’re the father,” she says. “And I know I’m a complete stranger to you, and I know how much you love your high-school girlfriend, but I’ve decided I’m going to go through with this. You don’t know my medical history, but this is kind of a miracle for me. But I need you to know I will not ask anything of you, emotionally, financially, all of it. You can still find the great love story you deserve.” Kevin whispers he might pass out and says he needs some air, but isn’t walking away from the conversation.

Of course, when he goes outside for air, he runs into Randall. The two argue about who’s really been there for Rebecca over the years. Then Kevin says if he was there the night of the fire, he would have been able to save Jack. Randall counters, “But you weren’t there, and when he died, he died ashamed of you. I think that’s the part that really gets you…the shame he felt for you and the pride he felt for me. You’ll never know what it’s like to devote yourself to anyone other than yourself. You’ll pretend but it will just be a performance. A tired, stale performance, like all of your performances.”

The whole thing is awful, sad, and beyond uncomfortable. Kevin then says he used to think the worst thing that happened to him was the day his dad died, but it was actually the day they brought Randall home. Shit. Kevin goes back to the house and declares that he’s all in with Madison. “I’m sick of chasing ghosts,” he says. “I’m all in, Madison. Whatever you need, I’m all in. I want to be a father. I think I’d be great at it.” Madison then admits she’s not just pregnant with his child, but his children. Twins. While this is all happening, we see Cassidy pay Nicky a visit in his trailer, followed by Sophie in Time’s Square looking up at Kevin’s cologne ad. (You just know we haven’t seen the last of them. Well played, Dan Fogelman.)

In the last few minutes, older Kevin—with a wedding ring on—is back at Rebecca’s bedside. His twin daughter is there, too. Nicky’s there as well and wearing a wedding ring. When Randall enters, Kevin puts his hand on his brother’s back. So no matter what’s happened in the time since, they’ll come together when it counts.

Whew. With so much to unpack, we called up Justin Hartley to get more details on those scenes with Sterling K. Brown, my theory about Kevin’s future, and more. Read on.

Peter Weber Was ‘Visibly Shaken’ After the ‘Bachelor’ Live Finale

“The hits start coming and they don’t stop coming.” —Smash Mouth and Bachelor Peter Weber, probably.

Let me explain: Tuesday, March 10, marked the emotional finale for the latest season of The Bachelor, and it was brutal for Weber, who proposed to a girl he was clearly not in love with just to dump her and end up with someone else whom he knows his entire family hates. To say he was put through the wringer on this live finale would be an understatement.

First, his ex-fiancée, Hannah Ann Sluss, took him to task. Then his own mother, Barb, who seriously said his relationship with Madison Prewett would fail.

“Chris, [Peter is] going to have to fail to succeed. That’s it,” Barb said to host Chris Harrison on the live finale. “All his friends, all his family, everyone that knows him knows that it’s not going to work.” If I were Weber, I would be mortified—and according to Chris Harrison, he absolutely was.

“He was backstage standing next to Madison, visibly upset, venting to producers, just shaken,” Harrison told Us Weekly on Wednesday, March 11. “His world got kind of shaken on live TV. That’s something I don’t wish on anybody. It was uncomfortable, and he was probably embarrassed—probably angry, and rightfully so.”

John Fleenor/ABC

Harrison also spoke at length to Glamour’s West Coast editor Jessica Radloff about the incident, which he somewhat blames himself for. “I was sad and a little depressed afterward,” he said. “For that to happen on my watch, I felt a little guilty. I felt a little responsible, and I tried to fix it. I felt bad, like I had a hand in this, and that sucks.”

In the very candid interview, Harrison confirmed Barb and Peter Weber’s relationship has been “damaged” and questioned whether Peter’s mother could have backed off her son and his girlfriend a little bit. “Barb and Peter Sr. flew across the world, but maybe Barb needs to consider who this is about. Maybe it’s not about her. Maybe this is about her son and not about her Instagram followers or her DMs. I think that may have gotten lost a little bit,” he said.

Bachelor Finale Recap: Everyone Is Now Team Hannah Ann

The Bachelor finale aired on Tuesday, March 10, and Chris Harrison didn’t lie: It was quite the dramatic ride. Here’s what happened (warning: major spoilers ahead).

Even though he was still conflicted with his feelings for Madison, who left on Monday’s episode, Peter decided to propose to Hannah Ann, the only woman left standing in the competition. The engagement itself was beautiful, but you could tell something was off. That something was the fact Peter couldn’t give his entire heart to Hannah Ann because he had lingering feelings for Madison. Peter tells Hannah Ann this and, obviously, she doesn’t take it well. She completely reads Peter his rights for leading her on, confusing her, and robbing her of her first engagement.

This carried on to the After the Final Rose ceremony, too, where Hannah Ann reunited with Peter for the first time since ending their engagement. She literally told him that if he wants a real relationship, he needs to become a man. I screamed. The audience shouted. Even Peter’s own mother, Barb, seemed to be on Hannah Ann’s side.

The reactions to this moment—a true first in Bachelor finale history—were incredible. See them for yourself, below:

As for Madison, Chris Harrison ended up going to Alabama and informing her of Hannah Ann and Peter’s breakup. Madison reveals she’s still in love with Peter, and goes to L.A. for a second chance with him. She also appeared on After the Final Rose, where it was eventually revealed that Peter is still in love with Madison.

This did not sit well with Barb, who explained why she’s so anti-Madison: She says Madison made the family wait three hours to meet her the first time because she was conflicted about moving forward with Peter. Barb is resentful of the fact that Madison wasn’t all in with Peter the way Hannah Ann was, but Madison made an important point on After the Final Rose (in front of Barb): This was her journey, too. Madison was there to find a husband just as much as Peter was trying to find a wife. Peter and Madison were unable to see eye to eye with Barb by the end of the sit-down. It was the future in-laws fight of your nightmares. Naturally, the Twitter reactions were epic.

This was, my friends, the most awkward Bachelor finale I’ve ever seen. How about y’all?

Peter Weber Says the ‘Bachelor’ Finale Is ‘an Insane Ending’

Unfortunately, the audience wasn’t able to get that information, and it maybe came off like, “Why is Peter making this decision?” I trusted Victoria, and there’s more personal stuff to it that will stay between the two of us. I learned a lot about Victoria, especially in the fantasy suite, and that made me feel confident about [choosing to believe her].

Have you talked to Merissa since the season ended?

No. No communication.

Francisco Roman/ABC

So let’s talk about Madison then. Did you ever ask her why she would go on The Bachelor knowing that sex is often a very big part of it?

I haven’t talked directly to her about that, but I never once held anything against her. That definitely made it very difficult week for me, no doubt about that, but her expressing her views and having to share what was on her heart with me was always in her right to do. It’s never too much for me, and I understand.

There are so many conspiracy theories about what happens on your finale. Chris Harrison even said, “If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.” So why hasn’t it been spoiled?

I don’t know. I think when I made that statement [earlier this year that it wouldn’t be spoiled], I was just throwing it out there. I’ve truly believed it. I thought there was a reason that it wouldn’t be spoiled. But I’m even a little shocked just with the day and age we live in, social media and whatnot. It’s an insane ending, it is. And it’s the hardest last week of my life. So that’s really all I can say about that.

But then we have Chris saying that you don’t even know how this is all going to end. So are you terrified the “After the Final Rose” special will be just as difficult?

I wouldn’t say terrified because I can honestly say where I’m at right now, I am very happy. I say it over and over, but I followed my heart the entire time. A lot of people, I think, will be surprised. There’s a lot of unexpected stuff that happens up until the very last second, that’s for sure. I think that’s why it’s not been able to be spoiled. Soon everyone will know.

My personal theory is that it’s either Madison or Hannah Brown at the end. Because when your mother says, “Go back and get her,” it seems she’s referring to a relationship she’s invested in. Obviously, she met Maddie in the very beginning of your season and knows Hannah.

Eric McCandless/ABC

Right. I think that’s a very fair theory. My mom is very emotional, and she can’t hide her emotion at all. She definitely has opinions that she feels like she has to get across to me. I know it only comes from a place of love. She’s my biggest fan.

And she doesn’t even know how this season ends?

You guys will have to tune in to see.

You are so well media-trained. I can’t imagine how hard this has been not to say anything. [Laughs.]

It’s very hard. The finale is crazy. That’s all I can say. [Laughs.]

This interviewed has been edited and condensed for clarity.

The Bachelor two-night finale airs Monday, March 9, and Tuesday, March 10, on ABC. Jessica Radloff is the Glamour West Coast editor. You can follow her on Instagram @jessicaradloff14.
