Kate Middleton's First Instagram Post Is Deeply Emotional


Kate Middleton has been in the middle of a five-day tour of Pakistan with Prince William, and between the red carpet arrival, school visits, and even a scary electrical storm, it’s clear the trip has meant a lot to her. Over the weekend, the Duchess of Cambridge shared some of her thoughts on the communities in Pakistan she’s visited, and she was so moved by the people she met, she wrote her first caption on the Kensington Royal Instagram account.

The post includes several photos that show Middleton and Prince William meeting with groups of children, as well as playing a game of cricket in Lahore. A long caption alongside the images was attributed to “Catherine,” (a.k.a. Kate Middleton) and included her reflections on the past few days she’d spent getting to see how different families, particularly one at the SOS Village orphanage, come together and care for kids in need.

“The community at the SOS Village is built around family—and the best possible family you could imagine—where everyone comes together to nurture, love and protect the children in their care,” she wrote. “These vulnerable children, many who have come through traumatic circumstances, are nurtured in this caring environment and are able to form these quality relationships that they so desperately need to thrive.”

The royal couple’s last day in Pakistan was on October 18, and the trip wrapped up with an unexpected event. After their flight got stuck in a lightning storm that forced their pilot to abort two landings, Prince William and Middleton missed an engagement in Khyber Pass. So instead, they went to the Army Canine Centre and spent some time learning how dogs are trained for certain military tactics. The visit meant that they got to play with a few puppies, which seems like the perfect finale to a busy tour.

The Game of Thrones Cast All Reunited at the Emmys, and People Are Emotional


The Game of Thrones cast had an epic reunion at the Emmys on Sunday night (September 22). Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, and Carice van Houten all hit the stage together to pay tribute to the show, which ended this summer after eight glorious seasons.

The audience gave them a standing ovation when they first walked out, and the emotion was palpable. Each cast member had a chance to talk briefly, and their words were met with rapturous applause. When it came time for Christie to speak, fans screamed so loudly they muffled her speech. What can I say? This fandom runs deep.

Simone Biles Gets Emotional Talking About How USA Gymnastics Failed Athletes


Simone Biles made history twice in a row this week during the U.S. Gymnastics Championships: First she nailed a triple-double during a floor routine and then she pulled off a perfect double-double dismount, making her the first female athlete to land both moves in competition. She ended up winning her sixth all-around title, a massive milestone for the 22-year-old athlete.

Biles has been busy celebrating her legendary performances. On Monday she posted an image on Instagram that shows her looking absolutely overjoyed and captioned it, “That feeling when you make history…twice.”

But her victories weren’t the only powerful thing she did last week. In an interview before she competed, Biles addressed reports that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee failed to protect athletes like herself from former physician and team trainer Larry Nassar, who is serving multiple lifetime sentences after being convicted of criminal sexual conduct.

After an 18-month investigation, a bipartisan Senate committee announced that both organizations “knowingly concealed abuse by Larry Nassar, leading to the abuse of dozens of additional amateur athletes from summer 2015 to September 2016,” according to a report from the Washington Post.

Before competing, she told reporters, “They couldn’t do one damn job. You had one job. You literally had one job, and you couldn’t protect us,” she said. “And it’s just really sad because every time I go to the doctor or training, I get worked on and I don’t want to get worked on, but my body hurts. I’m 22. At the end of the day, that’s my fifth rotation, and I have to go do therapy, but it’s just hard, and we try to work through it, but it’ll take some time. I’m strong, I’ll get through it, but it’s hard.”

Biles has been committed to shining light on abuses in the gymnastics world, and she’s supported other victims of assault. Last year she wore a leotard specifically to honor survivors. As she explained, “I stand with all of them, and I think it’s kind of special to unite.”

Taylor Swift's New Song 'The Archer' Is Making People Emotional


Taylor Swift released a new song off her upcoming album, Lover, on Tuesday, July 23. Titled “The Archer,” the track is a departure from the first two singles she’s put out from Lover, “ME!” and “You Need to Calm Down.” The song is subdued and synthy, and packed with some pretty gut-wrenching lyrics.

Interestingly, “The Archer” is track number five off Lover, which is significant if you know anything about Taylor Swift‘s music. The pop icon has historically made the fifth song off her albums emotional, vulnerable, and deeply personal. (Please see: “Delicate,” “Dear John,” and, of course, “All Too Well.”) This was unintentional at first, but Swift has since caught on and now makes deliberate choices for her fifth tracks.

“So track five is kind of a tradition that really started with you guys because I didn’t realize I was doing this,” Swift said Tuesday on an Instagram live-stream. “But instinctually I was putting a very vulnerable, honest, emotional song as track five. So because you noticed this, I started to put the songs that were honest, emotional, vulnerable, and personal as track five.”

“The Archer” is all of those things. “I’ve been the archer, I’ve been the prey/Who could ever leave me, darling/But who could stay,” she sings in the chorus, which some fans are reading as a nod to her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. They say he is the one who has stayed with her.

“Imagine Taylor sitting on her couch with Joe and she says, like, ‘I want to show you something,’ and she catches her guitar and sings ‘The Archer’ to him,” one fan wrote.

Some people think “The Archer” is a continuation of the “Delicate” music video, in which Swift becomes invisible but then is seen by a mysterious guy at a bar (presumably Joe).

'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke's Emotional Goodbye to Daenerys Will Break You


Just one week after HBO aired its final episode of Game of Thrones, fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the show’s eighth and final season in the documentary The Last Watch. If you tuned in, you definitely saw how Kit Harington reacted to that shocking Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen scene in the finale—but there’s also there’s a good chance you’re still sobbing over Emilia Clarke‘s emotional goodbye to Dany. Truly nothing could have prepared viewers for the footage that shows the actress getting her hair done and the moment hitting her hard.

“There’s definitely an exhale of breath,” she tells her hairdresser, Candice Banks, as she gets her blonde wig put on for the last time ever. “It’s kind of exciting to sort of think: ‘Oh, who am I without this, then?’ I wonder.”

“That was Emilia’s last shot on Game of Thrones,” a crew member announces in the next clip after Clarke finishes up her final scene. She later hugs showrunner Dan Weiss and co-star Maisie Williams before heading back to her trailer to discover that someone had written “Goodbye Dany, Hello Emilia” on her mirror.

It’s safe that no matter how fans really felt about the series finale, it’s hard not to get emotional over Clarke’s goodbye.

If that wasn’t enough, she also bid farewell to Dany last week on Instagram, thanking her for shaping her “as a woman, as an actor, and as a human being.”

“Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me. The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart,” she wrote. “But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams.

“Without you there is no us. And now our watch has ended,” she concluded.

Although there’s no more Khaleesi (or is there?), at least fans can hold out for the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel that’s reportedly in the works at HBO.

Emilia Clarke and Sophie Turner Penned Emotional Farewells to 'Game of Thrones'


Tonight is truly the end of an era: Game of Thrones, one of the most talked-about shows of recent years, is ending after almost a decade. It’s been eight seasons of blood, sweat, and tears (speaking for the characters here) as Westeros’ contenders have fought their way to the Iron Thrones. Although we’re not sure who’s going to wind up on it—that answer will play out in Sunday night’s finale—it’s safe to say that the last episode is going to be an emotional one for the show’s fans. But it’s a big night for the cast, too: After all, they’ve been inhabiting their characters for years—some of them for the duration of the show—and for younger members like Emilia Clarke, who plays Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, and Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, that means their characters have taken up most of their adult years. Leaving them behind after tonight is a big deal. Both actresses took to Instagram on Sunday to pay tribute to their time with Game of Thrones—and the posts will truly tug at your heartstrings.

“Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me,” Clarke wrote in hers. But to you, dear kind magical fans, I owe you so much thanks, for your steady gaze at what we’ve made and what I’ve done with a character that was already in the hearts of many before I slipped on the platinum wig of dreams. Without you there is no us. And now our watch has ended.”

Turner didn’t spare us any tissues with her post, either. She addressed her character directly in a thank-you note to Stark:

“Sansa, Thank you for teaching me resilience, bravery and what true strength really is. Thank you teaching me to be kind and patient and to lead with love,” she wrote. “I grew up with you. I fell in love with you at 13 and now 10 years on.. at 23 I leave you behind, but I will never leave behind what you’ve taught me. To the show and the incredible people who make it, thank you for giving me the best life and drama lessons I could have ever asked for. Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Thank you for giving me this chance all those years ago. And finally to the fans. Thank you for falling in love with these characters and supporting this show right through till the end. I’ll miss this more than anything.”

It’s truly the end of an era, but we can’t wait to see what these two lend their talents to next.
