Hillary Clinton Read 'Fire and Fury' at the 2018 Grammys


The 2018 Grammy Awards were full of surprises: Kesha and SZA were both snubbed; Nick Jonas kept dreams of a Jonas Brothers reunion alive; and Hillary Clinton put in a pretty convincing bid for a second Grammy. That’s right: The former secretary of state and presidential candidate popped up in a pre-taped segment during Sunday night’s ceremony in which a handful of stars read from Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff’s controversial new book about President Donald Trump’s first year in office.

The clip, in which Grammys host James Corden pretended to be searching for the next winner of the Best Spoken Word Album award, started with John Legend reading an excerpt about Trump’s reported habit of leaving midway through important meetings because he’s “bored,” followed by Cher talking about the POTUS’s signature bird’s nest–like hairdo, Snoop Dogg reading a claim that Trump did not enjoy his own inauguration, Cardi B being surprised to learn that he reportedly prefers to be in bed by 6:30 p.m., and DJ Khaled basically turning his lines into one of his hit songs (“another one!”). The last person to audition kept the book in front of her face as she read the first few lines, but after James declared her the best reader, she lowered the book to reveal that she was, in fact, Hillary Clinton.

“That’s it! We’ve got it! That’s the one,” James declared. Hillary, who won the spoken word award for the audiobook version of her 1996 book It Takes a Village, replied, “You think so? The Grammy’s in the bag?” “In the bag!” James confirmed.

Though the Grammys audience screamed and cheered when Hillary appeared onscreen, not everyone was thrilled with her cameo in the video. Nikki Haley, the current U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, tweeted her distaste for the segment. “That part ruined the Grammys. Such a shame,” she wrote in response to one person who expressed their love for Hillary’s part. Nikki went on, “I have always loved the Grammys, but to have artists read the Fire and Fury book killed it. Don’t ruin great music with trash. Some of us love music without the politics thrown in it.”

Hillary Clinton Allegedly Protected Campaign Adviser Accused of Sexual Misconduct: Report


The New York Times published a story on Friday that claims Hillary Clinton ignored complaints about sexual harassment against a senior campaign adviser, Burns Strider.

According to the report, Strider, who worked closely with Clinton on her 2008 White House run, was accused of “repeatedly sexually harassing a young subordinate.” The young woman ultimately made a complaint against Strider after he allegedly “rubbed her shoulders inappropriately, kissed her on the forehead and sent her a string of suggestive emails,” the outlet alleges.

After it had been filed, the complaint was escalated to the campaign manager, who reportedly urged Clinton to release Strider from his duties. But, per the Times, despite this recommendation to cut him loose, Strider remained on the team at Clinton’s request.

As a result of the allegations against him, Strider was reportedly docked several weeks of pay and ordered to undergo counseling. The young woman who made the accusations was moved to a new job within the campaign, the Times reports.

As with most political staffers, the signing of a nondisclosure agreement during the campaign that barred employees from publicly discussing campaign ongoings prevented the young woman from coming forward with the story on her own. When reached by a reporter from the Times, she declined to comment.

Following Clinton’s failed White House run in 2008, Strider went on to lead a group, Correct the Record, that backed Clinton’s 2016 candidacy. According to the Times, Strider was fired several months later, however, with “workplace issues” as the catalyst for his release. It was noted by the Times that these “issues” included allegations that he “harassed a young female aide” at the organization.

The New York Times reached out repeatedly to Strider for comment, but has yet to receive a reply. You can read the whole story here.

Clinton responded to the story via Twitter on Friday: “A story appeared today about something that happened in 2008,” she wrote in a series of two tweets. “I was dismayed when it occurred, but was heartened the young woman came forward, was heard, and had her concerns taken seriously and addressed. I called her today to tell her how proud I am of her and to make sure she knows what all women should: we deserve to be heard.”

Hillary Clinton Makes Guest Appearance on The Daily Show's 'Song for Women 2017'


What a year. 2017 has been terrible, inspiring, sad, empowering and pretty much every emotion in between. And through it all, it’s been pretty important (aka a survival tactic) to keep a sense of humor even during dark times.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah certainly helps and last night correspondents Dulcé Sloan and Desi Lydic released their collaboration “Song for Women 2017” to commemorate the year that was. Lydic’s character is a pretty on-the-nose portrayal of the type of white girl feminists that sometimes makes you cringe while Sloan appropriately shuts her down when necessary. The duo takes on everything from the women’s march (remember how great that was?) to Trump (“that pussy grabber with the terrible tan”) to the triumphs of Beyoncé, Elizabeth Warren, and ‘Wonder Woman’. “Who knew you could direct when you have boobies?”

Of course, the song gets interrupted by DJ Mansplain who tries unsuccessfully to take control of the narrative only to be shooed out of the recording booth. But there is one guest star on the track who totally steals the show—Hillary Rodham Clinton, who the duo brought in to add the perfect finishing touch to their viral hit.

I don’t know about you, but I still get a little choked up every time I see HRC making an appearance. I may or may not have openly wept watching her on Ellen last week. But while I long for what might have been, it does bring me joy to see her cutting loose, even if only to lip sync a cameo on a Daily Show parody tune. If she can still laugh, I can still laugh.

Hang in there, fellow women. Here’s hoping we tear the doors off this whole thing in 2018! Until then, “take us home” Hillary.

Hillary Clinton Had the Best Response After an 'SNL' Cast Member Got a Tattoo of Her


It’s not often that Hillary Clinton drops into Instagram comments to compliment a tattoo. But such was the case with SNL cast member Pete Davidson, who recently took to the social media platform to show off some new ink he’d gotten. Ink, that is, that just so happens to be of the former presidential candidate.

“Wanted to get @hillaryclinton a Christmas gift so I got a tattoo of my hero,” he captioned the pic of the tattoo, located smack on his right leg. “Thanks for being such a badass and one of the strongest people in the universe.”

The tattoo is a power-suited Clinton with a sassy look on her face, a sparkling necklace and brooch, and pretty much exuding as much power as a cartoon version of someone can. Super-sweet, right? What happened next was even better. Clinton, notified of the tag, sent some love his way in the comments.

“Thanks, @petedavidson,” said Clinton, who has had her fair share of appearances on SNL. “This makes it significantly less awkward that I’ve had a Pete Davidson tattoo for years. But seriously, I’m honored. Merry Christmas my friend.”

Davidson was dying—as the rest of us probably would be—and he commented back “OMG WHAAAAAAAT!!!!” because that is the only appropriate response for a situation like this.

Hillary Clinton Just Got Real About What She Wishes She'd Said to Trump During That Second Debate


One year and a few months after the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton is getting real about her experience running against now-
President Donald Trump—and on Saturday at the Teen Vogue Summit, she opened up about one moment in the second debate that no one’s likely to forget.

As Clinton and Trump faced off on October 9, 2016, and tackled subjects like ISIS and taxes, the then-Republican nominee personally attacked Clinton, saying she was the “devil” with hate in her heart and downplayed his lewd comments about women as “locker room talk.”

On top of the personal attacks, Trump snakily moved around the stage and aggressively stood too close behind Clinton as she spoke. Many women watching at home—who were well familiar with that feeling of discomfort when an aggressive male deliberately inserts himself in your space—wanted her to stand up to Trump right then. Instead, Clinton kept things professional.

Back to the present: On Saturday, Clinton told young audience members at the Playa Vista, California, summit what she really wanted to say at that debate and why she kept her mouth shut instead.

Given the timing of the debate, which came just after the infamous Access Hollywood tapes were leaked, Clinton knew Trump would be on edge and desperate to win the debate.

“So I said, ‘We have to be calm,’ and I maintained my composure,” Clinton said to Black-ish and Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi, who moderated the panel.

But the double standard that caused her to keep her mouth shut didn’t hit her until after the debate.

“I thought about that, and what would have happened if I spun around and said, ‘You love to intimidate women, but back up, you creep!’ I think it would have been really satisfying. But I also think given the way women are covered..they would have said, ‘She can’t take it,’ or, ‘We don’t want an angry woman in the Oval Office.’”

Clinton also briefly touches on the topic in her book, What Happened, and frequently contemplates what would’ve happened if she stood up for herself at the debate.

“It sure would have made for better TV,” she wrote. “Maybe I have over-learned the lesson of staying calm, biting my tongue, digging my fingernails into a clenched fist—smiling all the while, determined to present a composed face to the world.”

At the summit, she drew from her experiences during the debate—and over the course of her life—to dish some wisdom to those in the audience.

“We have to make it not only safe for women, we have to make it possible for us to express a full range of human emotion…without being so negatively judged,” she said. “Remember when he called me a nasty woman? All of that stuff he did didn’t end up hurting him that much because men are given a much broader range of emotions to demonstrate their authentic feelings.”

“Be part of the changing culture so it’s not viewed as disqualifying if you’re standing up for yourself and speaking up for yourself,” Clinton added.
