Kate Middleton's Brother James Is Engaged to Longtime Girlfriend Alizee Thevenet

Prepare yourselves for another royal wedding—well royal-adjacent, that is.

Kate Middleton’s younger brother, James Middleton, confirmed Sunday on Instagram that he and longtime girlfriend Alizee Thevenet were engaged. Rumors began circulating after The Daily Mail published reports that Thevenet had been spotted with a sparker on that finger. Middleton seemed to nod to the rumors in his social media post, captioning a sweet selfie of pair, “She said OUI. Our secret is out but we couldn’t be happier to share the news,” alongside champagne emojis and their couple hashtag “#jalizee.”

The selfie—in which Thevenet rests her hand on Middleton’s chest—perfectly shows of the bride-to-be’s new (and quite large) sapphire ring. While details of the jewelry have yet to be revealed, it is very reminiscent of the diamond and sapphire ring Prince William gave to Kate Middleton in 2010—which once belonged to Princess Diana.

While the 32-year-old didn’t reveal exactly how he proposed, he did share some hints on Instagram Stories. Middleton posted a clip of the duo swimming underwater, captioning it, “I asked @alizeethevenet a question the other day…” He followed it up with a photo montage from throughout the years, teasing her response with the caption, “And she said…”

Middleton and Thevenet have reportedly been dating since last year. They’ve kept their relationship largely private, but Thevenet was spotted on vacation in St. Barts with James, Pippa Middleton and her husband, James Matthews. She also accompanied Middleton to Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding this past May, and she has appeared on James’s Instagram sporadically.

Neither the Duchess of Cambridge nor Pippa have yet to publicly congratulate their brother and new sister-in-law-to-be on their engagement, but we wouldn’t be surprised if their wedding drew a large number of royals, including Meghan, Harry and Archie.

This Big Little Lies Theory Makes a Convincing Case That Corey Is Perry's Brother

The end of Big Little Lies’ second season is near, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how the hit HBO show will tie all of its loose threads together. The series is known for its surprise reveals and cliffhangers, so it’s understandable why fans think there are major twists on the way as the finale approaches—and one theory involves Jane Chapman’s love interest, Corey.

According to Reddit user emmyeggo, Corey (Douglas Smith) might be more than just a guy Jane (played by Shailene Woodley) has been dating: He could be Perry’s (Alexander Skarsgård) brother. If you watched episode five of season two—spoilers ahead—then you remember that Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) saw Corey leaving the police station, sparking speculation that he’s an undercover cop. On episode six, he denies being a detective, but emmyeggo thinks he’s still hiding that he and Perry are related.

The Reddit user writes that they’ve based their theory on a few different details, including the structure of Liane Moriarty’s previous books. Namely, that you can “expect the unexpected.” The episode seven description also says Celeste “questions Mary-Louise about a tragic event from Perry’s childhood.”

So far, there have been several mentions of Perry’s deceased brother—something emmyeggo believes could be part of a big twist. “It’s highly likely that there was some sort of trauma inflicted upon Perry, and it’s not too far-fetched to believe that Mary-Louise had a motive to fake her other son’s death. There could be a myriad of logical explanations for this (of which we know Celeste starts to ‘question,’)” emmyeggo writes.

“Also to keep in mind – the way that the ’Perry was Jane’s rapist’ plot twist was so effective is because Jane and Perry were never introduced to each other in present time, so the audience struggled to put the two and two together,” emmyeggo continues. “Though Corey and Mary-Louise have been a big part of Jane’s life this season, Corey and Mary-Louise have actually never been in the same scene together…” “Jane also has a flashback to her assault when dancing with Corey, which would make sense if they were brothers. Celeste also looks at Corey very strangely at Amabella’s party.”

Here’s the scene the user is referring to:

The Reddit user also points out that Mary-Louise mentioned that her husband remarried after the trauma, which could also open Perry up to having step siblings. Even if Corey turns out to have known Perry in some way, there’s still the question of what his motives could be in establishing a relationship with Jane.

Kate Middleton's Brother James Wrote a Powerful Essay About Mental Health

For years, the rising generation of the royal family—specifically Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry—has worked through their Heads Together foundation to change the conversation around mental illness and combat stigma around it, especially within the United Kingdom. Prince Harry, in particular, has been especially vocal about his own struggles, opening up about being “close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions.” Now, Kate’s brother is contributing to the conversation: In a new op-ed for the Daily Mail, James Middleton—who has historically remained quiet on all matters concerning his family—openly applauds his royal sister and brothers-in-law for their work as he opened up for the first time about his own years-long battle with anxiety and depression.

In the essay, Kate’s younger brother describes the challenges of living with severe dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and how that morphed into an exhausting struggle with anxiety and depression later in life: “Each night sleep eluded me,” he writes. “During the day I’d drag myself up and go to work, then just stare with glazed eyes at my computer screen, willing the hours to tick by so I could drive home again. Debilitating inertia gripped me. I couldn’t respond to the simplest message so I didn’t open my emails. I couldn’t communicate, even with those I loved best: my family and close friends.”

Middleton goes on to acknowledge that although he’s privileged, that doesn’t make him “immune” to issues with mental health. “I know I’m richly blessed and live a privileged life. But it did not make me immune to depression,” he says. “It is tricky to describe the condition. It is not merely sadness. It is an illness, a cancer of the mind.”

According to the World Health Organization, depression is an extremely common mental health disorder affecting more than 300 million people of all ages worldwide. But despite its wide reach, depression—as with many other mental health conditions—is often culturally stigmatized. In the UK, open discussions around depression and other mental health issues are still largely more taboo than not—for men in particular—making Middleton’s essay especially important. “For many men, opening up about their feelings is the biggest social taboo,” wrote Chris Hemmings in 2016 for the Independent, a British newspaper. Instead, he writes, “[we] bury our heads in the sand—or bottle, to be more accurate, as alcoholism rates for men in the UK are three times that of women.” A report from the UK’s Mental Health Foundation places suicide—which, the report reads is “associated with depressive disorders across the globe”—as the leading cause of death in the UK among people 20 to 34 years old, with more than three times as many men as women dying as a result of suicide.

Despite his sister’s advocacy and the fact that the Middleton family had become “desperately worried” about his well-being, James writes that he found it difficult to open up to them at first, explaining that often with depression, “those who are closest to you are the hardest to speak to.” Ultimately, it was the royals’ years-long advocacy for openness around mental health that helped James come forward with his own story.

“I feel compelled to talk about it openly because this is precisely what my brother-in-law Prince William, my sister Catherine and Prince Harry are advocating through their mental health charity Heads Together,” he says.

“They believe we can only tackle the stigma associated with mental illness if we have the courage to change the national conversation, to expel its negative associations,” he writes. “So it wouldn’t be honest to suppress my story. I want to speak out, and they are my motivation for doing so.”

Ultimately, Middleton hopes that by opening up about his struggle with anxiety and depression, he’ll encourage others to do the same. Props to him for speaking out—and continuing to unravel the stigma.

The Photos of Princess Charlotte and Prince George Arriving to Meet Their Brother Are Too Much

Princess Charlotte and Prince George officially have a younger brother. Kensington Palace announced on Monday morning (April 23) that Kate Middleton has given birth to her third child, a boy. Not much is known about royal baby number three yet, but the Palace revealed on Twitter he was born at 11:01 A.M., weighs 8 pounds, 7 ounces and that Prince William was in the room for the birth.

Until we learn more information, though, these pics of Princess Charlotte and Prince George arriving to St. Mary’s hospital in Paddington, London (where Middleton gave birth) to meet their new sibling should tide you over. Dozens of paparazzi captured snaps of the brother and sister, ages 4 and 2, respectively, holding their father’s hands and walking into the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s. Princess Charlotte even waved to the media in a few of the pics, which is so cute, royal family aficionados may explode.

Below, check out two videos of Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince William walking into the hospital wing:

Kensington Palace posted an official pic of the children and Prince William entering the hospital, too. “Prince George and Princess Charlotte arrive with The Duke of Cambridge at St Mary’s Hospital to meet their little brother,” officials wrote in the caption. Just look at Charlotte’s wave!

And here are a few more pics, because I know you want more. I’m living for Prince George’s head-to-toe lewk.

How Princess Charlotte Is Making History Following the Birth of Her Baby Brother

The arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child, a boy, on Monday (April 23) is a history-making event for several reasons—one of them being it won’t change their daughter Princess Charlotte’s throne succession spot. The 2-year-old is currently fourth in line to be the head of the British monarchy, but she would have been bumped to number five with the arrival of her brother had a certain act not passed in 2013.

It’s called the Succession of the Crown Act and because of it Princess Charlotte will be the first female royal to not lose her place in line for the throne to a male heir. The act states that succession is based fully on birth order—not the sex of the child. Before this was passed, male royals would jump ahead of older females in the succession line. But now, Princess Charlotte is four spots away from the throne, her baby brother is five, and that’s solely because of when they were born. Hear, hear!

Kensington Palace announced early Monday morning Middleton and Prince William had welcomed their third child and second son. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz,” the Palace tweeted. “The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Prince Harry is now sixth in line from being king thanks to the arrival of Prince William and Middleton’s new child, but we’re sure he’s not sweating that. After all, he’s getting married to Meghan Markle in less than a month: an event that literally millions of people are eagerly waiting for.

'Riverdale' Season 2 Episode 11 Recap: Betty and Her Brother Are Getting Creepily Close

Tonight’s Riverdale was predictably bonkers. Allegiances were formed. Threats were made. Archie looked hotter and doofier than ever. Here’s what went down (spoilers ahead, natch).

We start with Jughead bemoaning about how “everything” and “nothing” is the same at Riverdale High School since it absorbed South Side High. He’s being melodramatic, as always, and notes that Archie is particularly feeling the heat. You see, Archie’s playing detective with the F.B.I. to uncover Hiram Lodge’s scams, and Jughead seems to think he’s in “turmoil” because of it. I disagree, though, because Archie clearly has enough cognitive function to try out for the basketball team. If he has time to shoot hoops, he’s clearly not stressed. So can everyone in this town just calm TF down?

The town’s about to throw a celebration in honor of its founder, General Augustus Pickens, and Hiram and Hermione Lodge and Fred Andrews ask Mayor McCoy if they can sponsor the event to bring the North and South Siders together. Veronica’s in on this meeting, too, which seems innocuous but is probably capital-E Evil. Detective Archie interrupts the meeting, sweaty from basketball practice, and has an awkward moment with Hiram. Archie’s onto your games, dude (and also looks very hot covered in sweat).

Now we’re at the Cooper residence, where Chic is staying after 20+ years of being off the radar. Hal’s not having it, though, and wants to know when Chic is leaving. Chic then starts telling the family about the night Betty rescued him from his hostel owner (who was beating him up) because he wasn’t in the mood to “work.” What the hell…does Chic do? (Apparently, he and Betty both dig their nails into their palms, so that’s probably going to come up again at some point.)

Later, “Special Agent Adams” has a meeting with Archie and tells him he has to get close to Hiram in order to get the information the FBI needs. Archie agrees, and I can already predict this will end badly because he isn’t slick enough to lie.

At school, Betty tells the crew about Chic; they all agree he’s hot but sketch, and Veronica suggests Betty bring Chic to the Lodge-sponsored Augustus Pickens celebration “Pickens Day.” Jughead leaves to go hang with Toni Topaz, and Betty pouts. Archie asks Veronica how he can win points with her dad, and she tells him to go out for the wrestling team because Hiram did that in high school. Sports! Men love sports!

PHOTO: The CW

Toni and Jughead’s hang-out isn’t casual: He’s actually interviewing Toni’s Serpent grandfather for an oral history report—and learns that Augustus Pickens, the “founder” of Riverdale, ordered the slaughter of the Uctana tribe, who first owned the land. The survivors went on to form the Serpents. Naturally, this enrages Jughead. He scowls a lot.

Also scowling is Mayor McCoy, who’s not pleased with Veronica’s friendship with Josie. Hermione thinks it’s because Mayor McCoy isn’t cool with how involved Veronica’s become with Lodge Industries. She says she’ll have a “chat” with McCoy if her “coldness persists.” Is Hermione going to…kill the mayor?

Chic Cooper update: Kevin realizes he recognizes Chic from webcam videos on the Internet, which is very scandalous for this small town. Betty goes down a rabbit hole watching his videos and is clearly shook. But her shock is interrupted by Jughead, who tells her all about Augustus murdering the Uctana tribe. It turns out that Barnabus B. Blossom, Cheryl’s ancestor, hired Augustus to do the job. Jughead wants to turn this into a story for the school paper, and Betty tells him to get a quote from Hiram Lodge first. Hiram hangs up on him, and now suddenly he’s my favorite character.

Also scandalous: These wrestling tryouts, which are so homoerotic that Call Me By Your Name is trembling. Archie’s royally flopping in front of Veronica’s dad, which is hilarious. Finally! A thing he’s not good at! Veronica says he can also win her father’s favor by singing with her at Pickens Day if he’s not a natural-born wrestler. That’s a more boring, less sexy course of action, but whatever.

What’s not boring, though, is this Chic Cooper cam-boy revelation. He goes back to the hostel to pick up his laptop and camera but the landlord threw it all out. Betty tells him to calm down and that he can stay with the Coopers as long as he wants. He scoffs at this, because he clearly has more videos to make and can’t do them there. He has to make his coins, Betty! In the greatest act of sisterhood ever, Betty gives Chic a camera and laptop…but he doesn’t even say thank you. WTF?! Listen, you can’t be rude and creepy.

Speaking of rude, Hiram is next-level terrible to Archie about his wrestling flop, saying it takes a “certain kind of a man” to wrestle. This enrages Archie, so he ditches the Pickens Day singing gig, makes out with Veronica in front of Hiram, and decides to give wrestling another shot. This is…not the way to win over Veronica’s father, bro. But that’s Archie for you: making doofy, chest-puffing decisions as per usual.

And it totally backfires: At tryouts the next day, Hiram teaches the guys his “signature move” (LOL, bye) which involves him putting Archie in a fucking chokehold. While Archie is gasping for air, Hiram whispers to him, “I always win” like a full-blown sociopath.

Chapter Twenty-Four: The Wrestler

PHOTO: The CW

Archie later confronts Hiram at the Lodge house about why he doesn’t like him. Hiram’s basically like, “You’re weak and not good enough for Veronica,” and Archie’s like, “You were in prison, freak.” Archie and Hiram then go running (???) and Hiram gives some speech about how Archie will “never” win their feud and that he’ll tolerate him until Veronica dumps him. They resolve nothing, because toxic masculinity.

Meanwhile, Jughead publishes a hit piece about Augustus Pickens, which pisses off Toni because Jughead name-drops her grandfather in it. But her grandpa is happy about it and says something must be done now that Jughead’s “re-opened the wound”. Oof.

The piece pisses off Mayor McCoy, as well, who tells Josie she can’t sing with Veronica anymore on Pickens Day. McCoy spills everything to Josie about the Lodges and their plans for the South Side, which causes Josie to flip out and bail on singing with Veronica.

Back in Chic land, Betty tells her long-lost brother she thinks she and him have the same “darkness.” Teens! She says she’s cool with his cam “career” and wants to “compare scars” from their joint nail-digging. His response is essentially, “Um, no. Bye” because how else do you respond to “Let’s compare scars?”

Alright, all this wrestling’s getting annoying now: Archie wins a dumb match against Chuck Clayton and grins exactly how a high school jock would. This causes Hiram and Archie to have a semi-nice moment together at the Pickens Day celebration. Mr. Lodge then tells Archie they should meet later that night to “discuss some things,” whatever that means. He’s probably going to murder Archie. It’s fine; I’m fine.

OK, it’s not that: Hiram tells Archie he has to be the “best” if he wants to date Veronica and offers him an internship to learn business ropes. This, conveniently, is exactly how Archie can learn more about Hiram and do what Agent Adams asked. Blah, blah, blah, where’s Cheryl, blah blah blah.

Also at Pickens Day: The Coopers, who get in a huge fight about Chic—in front of Chic. Hal tells Alice about Chic’s cam-boy videos and says “she knows why” they have to kick him out. To this, Alice says she’ll kick Hal out again if she has to. LOL, what other crazy shit is this blond family hiding? P.S.: Penelope Blossom starts hitting on Hal, like, an hour later, so there’s some adultery afoot.

Clearly, the Lodges are hiding something at Pickens Day, too: The Serpents crash it, and Toni tells everyone about the Uctana tribe and how Augustus Pickens slaughtered them. Instead of getting enraged, though, Hiram plays nice and applauds Toni for using her voice to “fight for justice.” He says the South Side can be a place where they celebrate the “rich tapestry” of the Uctana and basically gets everyone to applaud him. Lies! Lies, everywhere!

This isn’t good enough for the Serpents, though, because it’s implied at the end they behead the Augustus Pickens statue in the middle of town. Hiram says he wants the people responsible dealt with “swiftly.” So, is he going to kill them? Why is there so much bloodshed on this teen show?!

Oh, remember that whole “darkness” talk Betty and Chic had? Turns out Chic has this “darkness” too and cams on the Internet to escape it. Betty says she wants to learn how to “escape” as well, and then Chic opens up his laptop suspiciously. So…is Betty about to start cam-ing? Are they about to watch Ozark on Netflix? WTF?
