This Pic of Reese Witherspoon Hurling Ice Cream at Meryl Streep Is a Work of Art

Reese Witherspoon is the funniest part of Big Little Lies, full stop. Yes, all the actresses are phenomenal on the show, but Witherspoon brings some necessary comedic relief to the otherwise heavy drama. Her one-liners still kill me, more than a year after season one premiered on HBO. And things are only going to get better with season two. For one, all the cast members are returning, including Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz. Plus, Meryl Streep is joining rank as Perry’s mother. Yes, that Meryl Streep. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Big Little Lies sweeping the Emmys (yet again) in fall 2019.

Not much is known about Streep’s character at this time. We know, from photos, that she shares a moment with Celeste (Kidman) and her two twin boys. And thanks to this new shot from the set, we also know Madeline (Witherspoon) pelts her with an ice cream cone.

Check out the photo for yourself, below. You won’t be able to look away.

“I am praying Reese pelts Meryl with that ice cream. #BigLittleLies,” one fan wrote on Twitter, to which the actress responded, “No need to pray. I got her ! ??.” Witherspoon’s tweet seems to be a confirmation that this photo is, in fact, an actual still from Big Little Lies.

So what the hell did Streep’s character do to warrant an ice cream chucked at her? Did she start a petition to end Madleine’s production of The Book of Mormon? Did she throw shade at Madeline’s charity function outfit? Was Madeline’s ice cream just gross?

Regardless, the Internet’s loving this pic and turning it into memes and jokes. Below, just a few examples:

Plus a few we made ourselves:

BLL season two can’t come soon enough.

Reese Witherspoon Is Launching Her Own Channel and Unscripted Series

Reese Witherspoon is already an actress, producer, and entrepreneur. Now it looks like she’s adding reality star to that list. Well, kind of: Witherspoon announced today that AT&T and her production company Hello Sunshine will launch Hello Sunshine Video On Demand, a new subscription channel that will spotlight female talent with two new series, including an unscripted show starring Witherspoon herself.

The weekly interview show will be called Shine On With Reese and it’ll give Witherspoon a chance to talk with inspiring women artists, activists, and writers. She’s already got a hefty lineup scheduled that includes Dolly Parton, Ava DuVernay, Pink, America Ferrara, and others. The series kicks off on July 17, and a press release describes each episode as a chance for Witherspoon to uncover “what inspires, motivates, and gives joy to each of these trailblazers, and hear their perspectives on ambition, work, family, and hopes for the future.”

“I am thrilled to have such like-minded, creative collaborators at AT&T to help Hello Sunshine pursue our mission of elevating and showcasing the voices of women that we have such admiration and respect for,” Witherspoon said in the release. “I am so excited for the world to experience the stories from our partnership with AT&T, which are set to be equal parts entertaining, inspiring, thought-provoking and unabashedly real.”

Take a peek, below:

That’s not all she has planned, though. She’s debuting a second show on September 4 that will be called Master the Mess. Think HGTV magic: Two decluttering experts, Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin of the Nashville home organization business The Home Edit, will travel around and give families home makeovers. We can feel the tears welling up already. People can subscribe to Hello Sunshine VOD by going to channel 1112 on Direct TV.

It’s unclear how Witherspoon has time for all of this—she’s currently busy hanging with the Big Little Lies cast filming season two of the show, coproducing an adaptation of Celeste Ng’s novel Little Fires Everywhere with Kerry Washington, staying at the forefront of Hollywood’s Time’s Up initiative, and probably still reading that 15,000-word Elle Woods dissertation her fan wrote.

But as long as nothing gets in the way of Legally Blonde 3, we’re here for whatever she has coming next.

This Photo Is Proof That Reese Witherspoon and Emilia Clarke Could Be Sisters

In a cross-over universe we never dreamed would exist, it appears that Elle Woods and Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons, are actually sisters—if not downright twins. The two (OK, fine, the actresses that play them) posed for a picture together on the red carpet of the Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday, and it’s actual perfection. Twitter is also freaking out because well, it’s absolutely iconic legends Reese Witherspoon and Emilia Clarke together, and honestly what more could you ever want from life a picture?

The moment between the Big Little Lies and Game of Thrones actresses was caught on camera, and everything about it was incredible: take, for instance, the matching confident smiles and insanely complementary dresses. Both wore black—presumably a continuation of the all-black dress code at the week’s earlier Golden Globes ceremony to support Time’s Up. Clarke opted for an embellished Dolce and Gabbana dress (she’s the face of its new frangrance), and Witherspoon went for Prada. Apparently they share the same stylist, so similar vibes might be expected, but this is just next-level good.

Don’t believe us? Take a look yourself:

The Twittersphere, of course, promptly went into action:

As another commenter tweeted, “EMILIA CLARKE AND REESE WITHERSPOON I WILL NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS.” Time to get started on that fan fiction, you guys—Big Little Lies featuring the women of Westeros, perhaps?

Reese Witherspoon Is Making a Series About Your True Crime Podcast Obsession

“Serial” and “My Favorite Murder” fans, buckle up: Reese Witherspoon has just teamed up with Apple to executive produce the true crime series of your dreams, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Titled Are You Sleeping, the series—currently in production and based on Kathleen Barber’s novel of the same name—follows a murder case that regains national interest after a podcast surrounding the case goes viral. And while it can be said that, at first glance, the storyline seemingly mimics a more dramatized version of investigative journalist Sarah Koenig’s hit 2014 podcast, “Serial,” on a closer look, it appears to also poignantly expose American society’s deep-seated obsession with podcasts about serial killers and unsolved murders—and the consequences that arise as a result.

Already—and unsurprisingly—the show has big names attached to the project, including Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, who’s set to star in the series, and The Good Wife writer Nichelle Tramble Spellman, who’s working on the script. What’s more, the mastermind behind “Serial” herself, Sarah Koenig, has signed on to be a consultant for the project.

As of yet, the release date for the series has not been announced—but once it has, we’re positive this one’s going to be a hit. Just don’t watch this one before bed.

Reese Witherspoon and Zendaya Are Partnering for an Amazing New Movie

Reese Witherspoon has made a habit over the past few years of picking female-centered projects. From Gone Girl to Wild to this year’s Emmy-winning smash Big Little Lies, Witherspoon is using her power in Hollywood to amplify women’s voices in front of and behind the camera, and we’re so here for that. Now Zendaya is adding to the girl power by collaborating with Witherspoon as a co-producer on an amazing new film—and she’ll star in it too.

Deadline reports that Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, will produce a new psychological thriller, A White Lie. The movie’s based on the Karin Tanabe novel The Gilded Years and centers on a light-skinned black woman named Anita Hemmings (who will be played by—wait for it—Zendaya). Hemmings was the first black women to graduate from Vassar College in 1897—a time when African Americans weren’t allowed to attend the school. Hemmings passed as a white woman to get her degree.

The movie will show Hemmings fully immersing herself into upper-class New York society, where she’s treated as a wealthy white woman. She even finds romance with a rich Harvard student, but he doesn’t know her real identity (nor does anyone else). She has to keep it a secret—hence, ya know, the title.

This project seems like a perfect fit for Zendaya, who’s spoken candidly in the past about wanting to tell more black women’s stories. In fact, she echoed this sentiment at Glamour‘s Women of the Year Awards on Monday night, where she presented congresswoman Maxine Waters with a lifetime achievement award.

“Have you ever been the only woman in a room? What about the only black woman in a room? Our next honoree has reminded us over and over again when we are faced with the despair and defeating odds of that room, we can not allow it to intimidate us,” Zendaya said.

Reese Witherspoon Shares That a Director Assaulted Her When She Was 16

Since allegations of Harvey Weinstein’s long history of sexual assault and harassment came to light, countless people in Hollywood and beyond have come forward to share their stories. On Monday night, Reese Witherspoon joined in and spoke up about her own experiences with sexual assault and harassment.

While introducing Laura Dern, Witherspoon’s Big Little Lies costar and one of her “very favorite people in the whole world,” at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event on Monday night, Witherspoon took a moment to acknowledge the heartbreaking stories that have been flooding in for almost two weeks, according to Elle. “This has been a really hard week for women in Hollywood, for women all over the world, for men in a lot of situations and a lot of industries that are forced to remember and relive a lot of ugly truths,” she said.

“I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly, and I found it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate. A lot of the feelings I’ve been having about anxiety, about being honest, the guilt for not speaking up earlier or taking action. True disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16 years old and anger that I felt at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment.”

“And I wish I could tell you that that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly, it wasn’t,” Witherspoon continued. “I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault, and I don’t speak about them very often, but after hearing all the stories these past few days and hearing these brave women speak up tonight, the things that we’re kind of told to sweep under the rug and not talk about, it’s made me want to speak up and speak up loudly because I felt less alone this week than I’ve ever felt in my entire career.”

The 41-year-old went on, “And I’ve just spoken to so many actresses and writers, and particularly women, who’ve had similar experiences, and many of them have bravely gone public with their stories. And that truth is very encouraging to me and to everyone out there in the world, because you can only heal by telling the truth. Very smart, wise women have told me that in the past three days, and I feel very encouraged by this group of people tonight who have created a community of people who are champions now of a new attitude toward harassment in our industry, and every industry that’s going to address the abuse of power in this business and every business, and I feel really, really encouraged that there will be a new normal.”

The Oscar winner, who brought 18-year-old daughter Ava Phillippe to the event, went on to address the young women in the room. “Life is going to be different for you because we have you, we have your back. And that makes me feel better because, gosh, it’s about time.”

She also suggested a new “course of action” for the Hollywood powerhouses in attendance. “I just want to say, there’s a lot of people here who negotiate quite frequently with different companies and heads of companies, and I think maybe during your next negotiation, this is a really prudent time to ask important questions like, who are your top female executives? Do those women have green-light power? How many women are on the board of your company? How many women are in a key position of decision-making at your company? Asking questions like that, I found, it seems so obvious, but people don’t ask those questions,” Witherspoon said. “If we can raise consciousness and really help create change, that’s what’s going to change this industry and change society.”

Witherspoon wrote about creating this kind of meaningful change in an essay for the October 2017 issue of Glamour. “All we can do to create change is work hard. That’s my advice: Just do what you do well. If you’re a producer, you’ve got to produce. If you’re a writer, you’ve got to write. If you’re in corporate America, keep working hard to bust through the glass ceiling. If you want our voices to be represented in government—and I think we’re all getting behind that idea now—encourage women to run and help them with their campaigns. If you are one of those people who has that little voice in the back of her mind saying, ‘Maybe I could do [fill in the blank],’ don’t tell it to be quiet. Give it a little room to grow, and try to find an environment it can grow in.”
