Meryl Streep and Billy Porter Hug at 2020 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes hadn’t even gotten underway yet, but we already have one of the standout moments of the night involving two of our favorites: Meryl Streep and Billy Porter.

In footage captured as the celebrities got settled in the ballroom, a camera captured a perfect moment between the two stars where they greeted each other, hugged, and kept on hugging. Now all I can imagine is a meeting between Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada) and Pray Tell (Pose). Just imagine the conversations they could have about cerulean blue, fashion history, and what he’s wearing to the next ball. The category is…my dreams!

Watch the moment for yourself below. “How many celebrities can you see? Don’t miss the part where Meryl Streep hugs Billy Porter. #GoldenGlobes,” Ramin Setoodeh tweeted with the footage.

Given how much the internet loves both a Streep and a Porter meme—you know you’ve used that gif of her and J. Lo clapping a million times—people were very excited, to say the least. “Meryl hugging Billy Porter, I’m not okay,” one person tweeted. “MERYL TOUCHING BILLY’S COAT!!!! i’m dying, she’s so cute ?????,” another wrote. And we think this person definitely has the right idea: “This is everything. Please can Meryl and Billy work together? #GoldenGlobes.”

At one point, Porter appears to say to Streep, “You didn’t see the train, boo.” And, well, that was just perfection.

Then, they threw Ana de Armas from Knives Out and Taron Egerton into the mix.

This is why the Golden Globes are always the most fun awards show of the bunch. You’ve got film legends like Meryl Streep chatting with newly crowned TV legends like Billy Porter—and that’s before the stars even sat down and started drinking all that champagne at the table. We can’t wait for the next commercial break to see what other celebrity worlds collide as famous people scramble back to their tables.

Everything We Know About ‘The Prom,’ the Netflix Musical Starring Ariana Grande and Meryl Streep

There is a lot happening at Netflix lately. There’s been some bad news, like the company announcing it would stop streaming The Office in 2021. But there are exciting developments too, like tons more Queer Eye, another round of GLOW featuring Oscar winner Geena Davis, and even a series all about Dolly Parton.

And among those new developments is a star-packed musical we can’t wait to see. Deadline reported that Glee and Scream Queens creator Ryan Murphy is getting started on a massive film called The Prom, starring Ariana Grande and Meryl Streep. Those two icons are just the tip of the iceberg. The script will be based on a Tony-nominated Broadway musical of the same name, and the cast is made up of a seemingly endless list of stars. Here’s what we know about the project so far.

It’s based on a Tony-nominated Broadway musical.

The Prom made its debut in Atlanta in 2016, and then it came to Broadway in 2018. It follows the story of two washed-up Broadway actors, Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman, who travel to Indiana to defend a high school girl’s right to take her girlfriend to prom. The show scored six Tony nominations earlier this year, including nods for Best Musical and Best Direction.

The cast is next-level good.

Streep will play Dee Dee Allen, and James Corden will star as her professional partner Barry Glickman. The cast will also include Nicole Kidman and Andrew Rannells as friends of the actors, while Awkwafina will play a publicist. Over at the high school, Keegan-Michael Key will take on the role of the principal, as well as a love interest for Streep. Grande will portray Alyssa, the popular secret girlfriend of the main character, Emma. There’s currently a national search for the actor who will play Emma.

On October 10, Deadline reported that Kerry Washington is also joining the star-studded cast, though we don’t know exactly what her role will be yet.

The film is part of Ryan Murphy’s five-year Netflix deal.

Murphy previously made headlines for signing a five-year deal with Netflix, reportedly valued in the $250 to $300 million range. Murphy, who worked with Grande on Scream Queens, has shared that he has about 10 projects in the works for Netflix, including three moves, four TV shows, and three documentaries.

The 15 Best Meryl Streep Movies of All Time

Meryl Streep is generally considered the G.O.A.T. when it comes to acting—it’s basically one of the few things that we all can agree on in 2019. The woman has been nominated for 21 Oscars (winning three times) and 31 Golden Globes (winning eight), along with countless other awards spanning her multi-decade career.

She may currently be hurling height-oriented insults at Reese Witherspoon on HBO’s Big Little Lies, but here we’re breaking down her greatest movies of all time. From Miranda Priestly to Karen Silkwood, every Streep role is pretty iconic—just by the sheer fact that she’s playing the character. She can do straight-up comedy (Death Becomes Her), musicals (the Mamma Mia films), and, of course, gut-wrenching drama (Sophie’s Choice, anyone?)

Here are our 15 favorite Streep movies.

This Pic of Reese Witherspoon Hurling Ice Cream at Meryl Streep Is a Work of Art

Reese Witherspoon is the funniest part of Big Little Lies, full stop. Yes, all the actresses are phenomenal on the show, but Witherspoon brings some necessary comedic relief to the otherwise heavy drama. Her one-liners still kill me, more than a year after season one premiered on HBO. And things are only going to get better with season two. For one, all the cast members are returning, including Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz. Plus, Meryl Streep is joining rank as Perry’s mother. Yes, that Meryl Streep. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Big Little Lies sweeping the Emmys (yet again) in fall 2019.

Not much is known about Streep’s character at this time. We know, from photos, that she shares a moment with Celeste (Kidman) and her two twin boys. And thanks to this new shot from the set, we also know Madeline (Witherspoon) pelts her with an ice cream cone.

Check out the photo for yourself, below. You won’t be able to look away.

“I am praying Reese pelts Meryl with that ice cream. #BigLittleLies,” one fan wrote on Twitter, to which the actress responded, “No need to pray. I got her ! ??.” Witherspoon’s tweet seems to be a confirmation that this photo is, in fact, an actual still from Big Little Lies.

So what the hell did Streep’s character do to warrant an ice cream chucked at her? Did she start a petition to end Madleine’s production of The Book of Mormon? Did she throw shade at Madeline’s charity function outfit? Was Madeline’s ice cream just gross?

Regardless, the Internet’s loving this pic and turning it into memes and jokes. Below, just a few examples:

Plus a few we made ourselves:

BLL season two can’t come soon enough.

Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, and Saoirse Ronan Might Star in a *Little Women* Remake

Greta Gerwig‘s reported next project is on track to be a big one. The writer, director, and actor made history last year when she became only the fifth woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for best director for Lady Bird. Now, she might be onto something just as amazing: Columbia Pictures’ remake of Little Women.

Gerwig first joined Columbia’s adaptation of Little Women in 2016 to do a rewrite of the script’s first draft, but Variety reports Sony was so impressed with Lady Bird, executives are trying to win Gerwig over to make Little Women . The company is reportedly even ramping up pre-production to compel her to take the lead on the film.

Several major actors are said to be in talks to join the cast, including Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Saoirse Ronan, and Timothée Chalamet. If everything falls into place, this would mark a reunion for Ronan and Chalamet, who both starred in Gerwig’s Lady Bird.

If Gerwig takes on Little Women, it would be her second project as a solo director. (She co-directed a film with Joe Swanberg in 2008.) The novel by Louisa May Alcott, following four sisters in post-Civil War America, has been adapted a number of times, with the 1994 adaptation starring Winona Ryder receiving the most attention.

This is all the information we have so far about this remake, but it looks like it’s coming at a convenient time for all. Streep will most likely wrap work on season two of HBO’s Big Little Lies soon; Stone’s next big role in The Favourite will hit theaters in November; Ronan recently finished production in Mary Queen of Scots; and Chalamet recently began filming his next project, Netflix’s The King.

Meryl Streep Just Broke Her Own Oscars Record for the Most Acting Nominations

Typical Streep! Grande Dame of film acting Meryl Streep was just nominated for Best Actress for her role as Katharine Graham in Steven Spielberg’s The Post, a historical drama about The Washington Post battle against the Nixon administration to publish the Pentagon Papers. This is Streep’s 21st acting nomination, breaking her own record for most nominated actor ever. She’s well ahead of the game, since Jack Nicholson and Katharine Hepburn are tied for second place, with a measly 12 nominations apiece. While Streep is the most nominated actress in history, she isn’t actually the biggest winner; while she and a handful of others have three statuettes at home, Katharine Hepburn is the only person ever to take four for acting.

“I am honored beyond measure by this nomination for a film I love, a film that stands in defense of press freedom, and inclusion of women’s voices in the movement of history,” Streep said in a statement, per the Huffington Post following Tuesday’s nominations announcement. “Proud of the film, and all her filmmakers. Thank you from a full heart.”

The Post was also nominated for Best Picture, but the buzzy and timely drama failed to crack other categories. Still, there’s no denying that Streep is really good in it. Streep faces stiff competition for Best Actress, though. She’s up against Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird). McDormand is the clear favorite to win after this past weekend’s SAG Awards win.

But, undoubtedly, this latest nomination only further cements Streep as the greatest film actress of her time. She only very rarely makes a bad movie, and it’s never bad because of her. She can next be seen on the big screen in two highly anticipated musical sequels: Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! and Mary Poppins Returns. Viva La Streep!
