Sonoya Mizuno of ‘Devs’ and Her Sisters Are Hollywood’s Next Royal Family

“We each of us had our thing, our exercise,” Sonoya says. (Their father, thousands of miles away, was so aesthetically inclined that to this day his art-filled home is used for commercial photo shoots.) And just outside in the garden, or close by in the kitchen, their mother encouraged them to express themselves through art and movement. It was rural England in the 1980s, and they were a mixed-race family with a single mother. They say they weren’t exactly fighting off party invitations.

“It was actually quite hard to fit in at schools,” says Miya.

“We’re definitely kind of like a strange-looking family because we were six children, all half-Japanese, with a white mother, growing up in very rural Somerset, and it was very unusual for that time, or maybe even now, for there to be families like that,” says Sonoya. “We very much stuck together.”

So they painted. They danced. They sang arias. They cooked. Their mother died when they were still relatively young, and the older children helped parent the younger ones. Their childhood hobbies turned into adult professions, even as they had to take up side-hustles, one brother becoming a pest-control worker, the sisters taking on odd jobs. Eventually, it paid off.

“None of us work in investment banking,” Mariya jokes, summing up the Mizuno family destiny. “My mum used to make this joke that she had six children so she could have one dentist, one doctor, and one lawyer.”

“But we ended up being the same,” Maya says.

“Bummer!” jokes Sonoya.

Older sister Saya is a painter, designer, and landscape architect. Jinya is the head technician in an arts gallery. Tomoya is the head chef at a boutique hotel and a DJ. And the three younger sisters’ work—Sonoya’s acting, Miya’s photography, and Mariya’s AD work—is so closely tied that it led them to the same set for the high-concept, futuristic Devs.

A production still of Sonoya in Devs, taken by Miya

Being on set together “meant that someone always had your back, if you were having a bad day, one of your sisters would be there to catch you,” Mariya says. They ate lunch together. After long, grueling hours, they carpooled home together. During tired moments, Miya would show them still photographs she had taken. “We would celebrate together,” Miya says. When Sonoya had difficult scenes to film, she says, “it really was such a support having my sisters there because at the end of the day I know that I could just see their faces.” For her sisters, watching her do takes was difficult in its own way. Miya says she would have to remind herself, again and again, “It’s just TV! It’s not real!”

Princess Diana's Sisters Played a Special Role in Archie's Christening

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor‘s royal christening on Saturday (July 6) was notably intimate compared to those of his royal cousins. New details about the official portraits released from the event suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle handpicked two special guests to pay tribute to Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, at the private ceremony.

Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were among the tightly edited group of 25 invited to attend Baby Archie’s christening today. They also appeared in the formal group portrait released this afternoon, pictured between Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother, and Prince William.

The sisters’ appearance is a symbolic gesture to Princess Diana’s role in Archie’s upbringing. Her sisters don’t make appearances as frequently as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but they’ve nonetheless stepped in to fill Princess Diana’s role in absentia. Early reports said that Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale were among the first people to learn of Archie’s birth. It’s fitting that they’re present for a major milestone in the young royal’s life.

Including Princess Diana’s sisters in the christening ceremony is just the latest way that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have acknowledged the late royal in their public lives. On Mother’s Day this year, the Sussexes shared a photo of Baby Archie with Princess Diana’s favorite flower, the forget-me-not. “Paying tribute to all mothers today—past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you,” they wrote.

Prince Harry has opened up about remembering his mother in recent months. In May, he spoke with veteran Dennis van der Stroon about his loss. “He said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother,” van der Stroon said of Harry. “He said he meets a lot of people in his work who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother, or relatives, and when he hears their story, as he heard my story, he said he doesn’t feel so alone.”

Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, Relatable Sisters, Had a 'Tiny Fight'

Queen of Kit-Kats Kourtney Kardashian took to Instagram on Thursday night (January 24) and revealed she and Kylie Jenner had a “tiny sister fight” two days before their family’s epic Christmas party. (You remember the one: John Legend performed. Paris Hilton was there. My invitation was somehow lost in the mail.) Their tussle, however, was short-lived: Kourtney posted a photo of herself and Kylie cuddling at the party—a clear indication any disagreement they had was resolved.

Check out the sweet pic for yourself, below.

It’s a pretty relatable post if you have siblings. I can’t count the number of holiday fights I’ve had with my sister that ended just as quickly as they started. Anyone with a brother or sister has absolutely been there. Kourtney and Kylie really are just like us, you guys—well, minus that whole multibillion-dollar empire thing.

One detail about their fight is making me scratch my head, though. Kylie commented on Kourtney’s post and said she “loves” their “tiny fights,” and Kourtney responded with three mystifying words: “teeny teeny tiny.”

Instagram

All this (probably) means is that whatever they were fighting over was insignificant. Maybe Kourtney wanted to add Kim’s song “Jam” to the holiday playlist and Kylie was like, “No, Travis Scott only.” Or maybe Kylie did a dramatic reading of that Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode where Kim called Kourtney the “least interesting” to look at.

But let’s get creative for a second. What if Kourtney and Kylie’s fight was about something literally “teeny tiny?” Did they have a disagreement over who’s better at rocking tiny sunglasses?

What if Kourtney followed the Instagram-famous egg that broke Kylie’s record for the most-liked photo? That would be a “teeny tiny” fight over something actually small.

Were they fighting about ants? Maybe they were whispering during the entire argument. Who knows? I’m glad they made up, obviously, but I need answers. Big answers.

Kim Kardashians Says She and Her Sisters Fight After They Watch Episodes of *KUWTK*

With Keeping Up With the Kardashians now marking its 15th season of petty fights and rich people drama on the network, its main star, Kim Kardashian, has reached a creative milestone in her own right. The reality star appeared on the latest episode of Ashley Graham’s podcast to talk about the longevity of her career, revealing that E! has always given her unprecedented creative control when it comes to editing and approving scenes for the show. “I’m not in the actual editing room but I watch every cut and every edit,” she explained. “And that, I think, has always been the magic to being ourselves and showing everything, because we know that we could really have a say in it. [It’s] really rare for them to give us that from the start.”

Kardashian’s control is similar to the one her mother, Kris Jenner, has possessed for many years on the network, which has been criticized for the sheer scope of its influence—by fellow E! stars, no less. Still, Kardashian makes it clear that her creative involvement isn’t to make her look better in comparison to other family members: “We’ve never really edited out crazy content.” All of their infamous on-screen fights, in fact, have become a fundamental tenet of the show—as silly as that sounds—but re-watching those moments when they air still isn’t a fun experience for the family.

“When you watch it, you get heated all over again. We literally start fighting all over again over the same thing,” Kardashian continued. “Even if we like are so crazy mad at each other, it won’t be long before we’re all good. The fact that so many people text me even now if a rerun comes on, they’re like, ‘Are you and Kourtney okay?’ And I’m like, ‘We went on vacation together. This has been months since we filmed that.’” Ah, the magic of television.

The Kardashian Sisters Are Fighting on Twitter, and People Think Kris Staged It

Grab an oversize salad and one of those Sprites from Khloé’s refrigerator that she’ll never drink, because there is some maybe real, maybe staged Kardashian drama happening on Twitter right now—and it’s all I can think about.

Like most Kardashian fights, the root of this one is something very serious and life-changing: the family’s Christmas card photo. Last week E! shared two clips of Kim and Kourtney arguing because they couldn’t coordinate their schedules for the card’s photo shoot. Kourtney wanted to stop at 4:00 P.M., but Kim had a business meeting then, ergo conflict. It was A Whole Thing that ended with Kim saying Kourtney is the “least interesting” sister to look at. Yikes.

Please note that both Kourtney and mama Kris Jenner laugh during this argument, so…how real is it? I mean, Kim does raise her voice a few octaves, so there must be a smidgen of truth to it.

Regardless, it’s operatic. Watch the video for yourself, below.

Shortly after, E! shared part two of the fight, in which Kourtney calls Kim an “evil human being,” and Kim rebuffs by saying Kourtney is acting like a “lunatic.” At one point, Khloé and Kim are basically running around a backyard. It’s very important.

[embedded content]

This all led to a stream of social media posts from Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé. First, Kim replied to a fan who took Kourtney’s side, saying the eldest sister is “sick and tired of being forced to stay relevant” by participating in a bunch of photo shoots. “Oh word, did Kourt tell you this? She sure wanna live that Kardashian life though, and BTW this photo shoot was our Christmas card,” Kim wrote.

When another fan chimed in, saying this fight was just your standard sibling drama that’ll be resolved in a day, Kim took the affirmative.

The tension escalated, though, when Kourtney offered a little insight to E! News about why she’s at such odds with her sisters. “I think it started at the end of season 14, a lot of tension building between us,” Kourtney said. “I felt like every day almost I was being picked on and criticized, and I just couldn’t take it anymore.”

She said the tension among herself, Kim, and Khloé is still “ongoing.” “I’ve been really working on myself a lot, and I think through my growth, I’m better at expressing myself,” Kourtney added. “I think in the past I’ve always been great at like not being emotional. I think that I’m better now at expressing my feelings. So I think this is ongoing. It’s a lot of communication instead of letting things go back into the way that they were. It’s definitely a process, and you’ll see it throughout the season.”

Then Kourtney posted this cryptic Snapchat about anger management, which fans took to be a diss at Kim.

Everything came to a head last night (August 5) on Twitter, conveniently during the Keeping Up With the Kardashians season-15 premiere. “You hear that??? If I don’t take my meeting as scheduled then I couldn’t launch my ULB KKW BEAUTY collection! AND I had this ONLY time slot to plan my baby shower, but Kourt wouldn’t budge to help a sis out,” Kim said, in reference to the aforementioned Christmas card schedule showdown.

Kourtney soon responded with a comment about how her main priority is being a mother.

Which Kim found insulting. “And mine is not? The shoot was with our kids!!!!! My #1 priority is being a mother as well and I can work too, so can you,” she wrote to Kourtney.

That’s when Kourtney conceded—slightly—saying Kim is an “amazing” mother, but they just have two separate outlooks on parenthood. She noted the sisters are always “ride or die,” in case any fans are worried #ChristmasCardGate is going to dissolve the Kardashian empire.

Kim echoed the love. “dont ever get it twisted, me, Kourtney and Khloe are GOOD! ALWAYS!!!! Never question that,” she wrote. Kourtney agreed, simply replying back, “Unconditional love.”

But wait! There’s more! Khloé chimed in on Kourtney and Kim’s tussle, claiming she just wanted “peace” between the sisters. Kourtney called bullshit on that, writing, “Khloé let’s be honest here.”

And that…didn’t sit well with Khloé. “What the fuck does that mean?? I didn’t want peace??” she wrote, to which Kourtney replied she did “eventually.”

Khloé then started chewing Kourtney out in a series of tweets. “Stop looping me into your drama with Kim! Don’t ever tweet me that shit again,” she wrote. She was sure to hashtag #KUWTK in all her tweets too, which is perfectly normal behavior in a spontaneous family fight.

The sisters were apparently supposed to have a conference call to settle their differences (LOL). That didn’t happen.

Oh, and Kourtney’s apparently pissed at Kris, as well.

Who, keep in mind, fans think staged this entire brawl for ratings. The devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder, etc., etc.

This really is the Shakespearean tragedy of our time.

Kim Kardashian's Sisters Praised Her for Looking Skinny, and People Aren't Happy

Kim Kardashian and her sisters are very into working out. That’s no secret. However, sometimes people perceive their obsession with looking a certain way as problematic. Exhibit A: When Khloé Kardashian offered tips for looking “thin AF” on her website. And now we have exhibit B: A new round of videos in which Kim Kardashian’s sisters praise her for looking skinny.

Here’s what happened: On Sunday evening (July 29), according to BuzzFeed, Kim was attending an event with her sisters Khloé and Kendall when, at one point, the conversation turned to Kim’s recent weight loss. Kim, of course, documented the conversations on Instagram Stories. “I’m really concerned, I don’t think you’re eating. You look so skinny!” Kendall says at one point, prompting Kim to let out an excited, “What?! Oh my God, thank you!”

“I’ve never seen a human being look so good. You are a walking Facetune doll,” Khloé says, while Kendall interrupts to hold up her tiny handbag and say, “My purse is as tiny as you!” “Oh my god, the compliments!” Kim says, before turning the camera on herself to show off her body in a pair of skintight latex pants. She goes on to trade more comments about looking “skinny” with Khloé, then films a conversation in which Khloé and her friend Malika Haqq speculate that Kim must only be eating “celery, maybe some lettuce,” and “different flavors of oxygen.”

Kim then announces to her sisters and followers that she’s “down to 119 pounds,” prompting Khloé to say she looks “anorexic” around her waist.

As you can imagine, Twitter users aren’t pleased with Kim, Kendall, and Khloé’s word choices in these Instagram posts. Many are saying the sisters repeatedly complimenting each other for being “skinny”—rather than the much more empowering “healthy” or “strong”—sets a toxic and dangerous example for their followers. See some of the disappointed comments, below:

This should go without saying, but “skinny” and “hot” aren’t synonymous. Beauty and health come in all shapes and sizes. It’s high time for everyone (the Kardashian-Jenner sisters included) to remember that.
