Here's Why Women Watching the Golden Globes at Home Will Be Posting Pictures of Themselves Wearing Black

On the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night, you’ll likely see a sea of women—and male allies—wearing black. This, in part, is thanks to Time’s Up, an initiative launched on January 1 by 300 women in Hollywood with the goal of ending “systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace,” whether that’s in Hollywood or in occupations like restaurant and agricultural work.

Some of the founding members of Time’s Up—including Amber Tamblyn, Uzo Aduba, Tessa Thompson, Shonda Rhimes, America Ferrera,, and Reese Witherspoon—have stressed the importance of using public events such as tonight’s Golden Globes as a platform to show solidarity by wearing black on the red carpet.

But Time’s Up is hoping to make the movement even broader by advocating for everyone—even those watching at home—to wear black.

“On Sunday we wear black,” the organization posted to Instagram. “To stand in solidarity with women and men everywhere who have been silenced by discrimination, harassment or abuse. Wherever you are, whoever you are, whatever you’re doing. Join us. #TimesUp”

“What people are doing collectively to change the narrative and to change the way women are treated and the power dynamic is important,” Amber Tamblyn told Glamour on Saturday. “None of it should be dismissed and all of it is powerful.”

Tessa Thompson added to Tamblyn’s point. “It makes sense to actually engage, to lean in, to use this moment both on the red carpet and on the stage to amplify this idea of real change,” she said. “That, to me, is why this moment at the Globes is indeed really powerful and has the capability to reach all kinds of people. It’s a time to take the microphone that you’ve been given and to use it in a new and exciting way.”

As part of that amplification, celebrities are spreading the word on social media to encourage people at home to join in on tonight’s movement by wearing black—whether you choose to wear a black dress (hey, watch parties are fun) or black leggings.

Please Enjoy This Bizarre Video of Melania Trump Watching Ballerinas

When you’re the First Lady and you invite reporters to your home to tour your newly hung Christmas decorations, sometimes things can go awry. For instance, you might enter the White House Grand Foyer only to find your two visiting ballerinas have yet to finish their performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Cursing this departure from your planned morning itinerary, you find yourself standing there, awkwardly plotting your next move. Heaven knows crossing that dance floor would be a disaster, so you wait patiently for the dancers to finish.

For some First Ladies, they’d make the most of watching the ballerinas from a distance that can only be described as thisclose and view it with nothing but wide-eyed wonder. For the always inscrutable Melania Trump, it was a moment to stand conspicuously still, emoting absolutely nothing, as the dancers twirled through a beloved holiday classic.

Of course, Melania is known for her stoic demeanor and maybe standing in the White House entryway, stone-faced with her arms at her side, was all part of her scheduled programming. But it did make for some truly strange visuals—ones that The Hill’s Jody Kurtz naturally captured on video and shared on Twitter.

The First Lady seemed blissfully unaware of how bizarre she looked standing there and eventually even cracked a smile. And despite the somber kickoff to the White House Christmas decorations tour, Melania really is excited about the forthcoming holidays.

“The President, Barron, and I are very excited for our first Christmas in the White House,” the First Lady said in a statement. “As with many families across the country, holiday traditions are very important to us. I hope when visiting the People’s House this year, visitors will get a sense of being home for the holidays. On behalf of my husband and Barron, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and joyous holiday season.”

Pink‘s voice is among the most recognizable in Hollywood. Her songs are powerful, her messages are clear, and above all, she remains true to herself. That’s why her fans are so loyal to her. If you type any of Pink’s song titles into Youtube, you will find an endless number of covers by her loyal following and young artists who are inspired by her music.

Whether these YouTube singers want to get discovered or they just can’t get enough of Pink’s music, it’s clear that each cover was carefully crafted with the hope that Pink will one day hear it. So when Pink stopped by the Glamour office the other day, we decided to play some of them for her.

And we may or may not have found her some new backup singers, considering many of them actually gave her chills. From fun guitar renditions to soulful acoustic covers, it’s awesome to see how differently her fans interpret her music. You can check them all out in the video, above, and watch Pink’s incredible reactions.

In fact, the singer was inspired to try out new melodies and renditions of her own songs after hearing some of the covers. “Who is this?! That’s better than I will ever sound,” she said in response to one of the cover artists. “Actually, now I know how it’s supposed to sound. That was incredible. Is she a recording artist that makes records and puts records out?” When someone in the background responded “no,” she said, “OK, well, that needs to change. I love that. I want to own that.”

Watching Kim Kardashian Cry About Feeling Unsafe on Vacation Is Heartbreaking

Roughly one year ago, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room while visiting Paris. It’s an incident she’s since been quite open about—both in interviews and on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. From her comments, it’s clear her life was irrevocably changed by the robbery. She’s now not as public on social media, she doesn’t post as many updates in real time, and she’s beefed up her security immensely. In fact, Kardashian said on the show she can’t sleep at night now unless a handful of security guards are outside her house.

Even still, Kardashian has anxiety about her safety, which is totally understandable. We see an example of this uneasiness unfold in the next episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. While on vacation in Mexico, Kardashian had an anxiety attack about feeling unsafe in the villa she was staying—and the cameras captured the entire thing.

“I just have anxiety. Are you sure it’s safe here? ” Kardashian says to Joe Francis, who owns the villa where she’s staying, on the phone. “Why did I come, you know?” She’s crying pretty intensely in this scene, too.

“Ever since Paris, I go through this worst-case scenario mode in my head,” she says in a voiceover interview. “I was so excited to come on this trip, and I had no idea I was going to end up feeling this way. But it hit me right as we were getting off the plane that all these people at the airport are ‘gonna see 17 or 18 girls with all of our Chanel bags and Louis Vuitton this. It just hit me, like, we’re the biggest target ever.”

Watch the moment happen for yourself, below. It’s truly heartbreaking.

The cure for Kardashian’s paranoia is unclear. What happened to her is traumatizing and terrifying. Thankfully, she has a supportive family who’s helping her cope. We hope she can find peace of mind soon, though. No one should ever feel unsafe while on vacation—or anywhere, for that matter.
