After seven seasons and countless fan theories, winter is here: The end of Game of Thrones is in sight. We don’t know much about the final six episodes, save for their air dates and length. (Though, we can watch the trailer for the umpteenth time to try to unearth new Easter eggs.) One of the biggest mysteries going into Game of Thrones season eight is who will, ultimately, end up on the Iron Throne. There are several fan theories about this, but a new pic HBO just dropped offers a strong clue.
Take a look at the pic for yourself, further below. At first, it just looks like a normal rendition of the Iron Throne, but check out the bottom. See those eyes? For this graphic, HBO literally put the throne on top of Drogon, one of Daenerys Targaryen’s three dragons. We never see creatures in photos of the throne, so this is an interesting development.
And it could mean a number of things. Or nothing! However, the dominant theory is Drogon’s presence means Daenerys ends up on the Iron Throne, and she takes her dragons with her. They’re a scary trio, so it’s probably wise she doesn’t leave them behind if she does win the throne.
It’s important to take all these theories and hypotheses lightly. HBO is notorious for including images in Game of Thrones promos that never actually make the show. That being said, I’m fully on board with Daenerys taking the throne once and for all. Jon Snow, who?
This isn’t the only big GoT theory to pop up in the last few days. A Redditor named DaughtersOfTheHarpy posted a convincing hypothesis nine days ago suggesting the Night King is after Bran Stark. “The Night King has had many opportunities to kill Jon,” they write. “If he was after him that bad, he would have killed him by now.” Good point.
We’ll find out the answers to these theories and more when Game of Thrones season eight premieres Sunday, April 14 at 8 P.M. ET on HBO. That’s only a few weeks away, but it feels like a lifetime.
We’re less than a month out from the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones. While we don’t know who will reign on the Iron Throne when all is said and done, Sophie Turner is out here doing her best to reign over our hearts. She’s starring in Jonas Brothers videos, slamming Piers Morgan over his tweets about mental health, and skiing with future sister-in-law Priyanka Chopra.
Now she’s chugging wine in the name of the Starks (her Game of Thrones family, for the uninitiated). Turner and her fiancé, Joe Jonas, were attending a New York Rangers game when she was shown on the Jumbotron screen. Instead of shying away from the camera, Turner did a little dab move, raised a fist and her glass of red wine, which she then downed as the crowd went wild. Even wine-loving queen Cersei Lannister would have to admit she’s proud of Sansa in that moment.
Turner posted a video of the stunt on Instagram with the caption, “Send it for the starks ?.”
Her comments section quickly lit up like a who’s who of Hollywood. “Hahahhaha ammmmmazing,” wrote Vanessa Hudgens. Drake said, “Wow inspiration for 2020 and beyond.” Ashley Graham dubbed Turner “my girl.” Meanwhile, the JoBros weighed in on a Barstool Sports post of the same video, as captured by Comments By Celebs. “Oh my god,” Nick said. Joe kept it simple with the ? emoji.

As with all things GoT, there will surely be a Reddit thread dedicated to theorizing what Turner’s caption tells us about Sansa’s fate on the show. But whatever happens to the Stark family and Winterfell, Sansa will be with Turner forever. “When I started playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, I was 13,” she said recently. “Now the series has finished filming and I’m 23, so it feels like I grew up with the character. She’s part of me.”
We’re only a few weeks away from the season-eight premiere of Game of Thrones, and there’s a lot to think about. So much that the Internet is filled to the brim with fan theories despite the fact we don’t know much about the season at all. Granted, many of these theories don’t have much going for them, but some actually hold water. We’ll know everything for sure when Game of Thrones premieres April 14 on HBO, but, until then, here are all the fan theories worth reading.
Everyone was so happy to see Littlefinger go last season, but one fan, who goes by Neo on YouTube, posits that he isn’t really dead. Rather, Neo thinks Littlefinger paid one of the Faceless Men of Braavos to die in his place so he could escape Winterfell. It makes sense when you think about all the times Littlefinger may have brushed elbows with the Faceless Men. Remember the fifth episode of season seven, when Littlefinger has a hushed conversation with an unfamiliar woman? He drops a coin in her hand—the same kind of coin, Neo theorizes, that Arya used to pay a Braavosi in an earlier season. The conclusion? This woman was actually a Faceless Man sent to kill Arya, but Littlefinger intervened and asked it to die in his place instead. Neo’s video, below, offers more details:

The evidence for this comes from what Sansa is wearing in this teaser for season eight: a scaly, navy-colored outfit. Remember, the house sigil for the House of Tully—Sansa’s mother’s house—is a fish. Sansa wearing something inspired by the House of Tully suggests she plans on honoring her family next season, which doesn’t bode well for Daenerys Targaryen, whose family caused some pretty intense damage to the North.

In the latest Game of Thrones trailer, Arya is running away from something—but what that something is we don’t know. It must be terrifying, though, because Arya is spooked despite the fact she’s carrying a knife made out of dragon glass, which kills White Walkers. Plus, she’s Arya Stark. She has a kill list! She’s more than equipped to handle anything that comes her way, which is why some fans think what’s chasing her is more psychological, like a White Walker version of Littlefinger or a dead family member reanimated by the Night King…like Ned Stark.

This theory first popped up back in 2017, but it’s still very much in play. We already had a hunch Daenerys and Jon were going to get together—aunt-nephew relationship be damned—but something she tells him in season seven suggests a baby might also be in the future. “The dragons are my children,” she says. “They’re the only children I’ll ever have. Do you understand?” GoT writers are known for throwing curveballs, so Daenerys making such a declarative statement about how she can’t have kids could mean just the opposite is going to happen next season.

Recall last season, when Cersei told her brother Tyrion she was expecting a baby and purposefully turned down a glass of wine because of it. Now, compare that to what we see in the latest GoT trailer: Cersei seemingly drinking a glass of wine. So does this mean she isn’t pregnant, after all? And if she isn’t, why would she lie? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen on GoT, but fans are certainly buzzing. “Ain’t she pregnant tho ?she wasn’t drinking wine when Tyrion talked to her after the meeting in the dragon pit,” one person tweeted.
This comes from another blink-and-you-missed-it moment in the new trailer. Midway through it, Cersei sheds some tears, which is rare. So rare, in fact, that the last time we saw her cry was when her daughter, Myrcella, died in season six. If that’s the barometer for Cersei showing emotion, then something pretty devastating must happen in season eight—like Jaime dying. Several fans have picked up on this.
This theory really picked up steam last season, but the evidence has been there for a while. In season five, Maggy the Frog gave young Cersei a prophecy that said she would wed the king, have three golden-haired children, and that someone younger and hungrier would come down the stairs behind her. Those three things have happened, which means the last part of the prophecy will most likely come true as well: “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” “Valonqar” is a High Valyrian word that translates to “little brother.” If you think this means Tyrion is the one who will do Cersei in, keep in mind that she’s technically the older twin between her and Jaime. More evidence for this occurs during the season seven premiere of GoT, when Cersei and Jaime are having a conversation while standing on a giant map of Westeros. She’s hovered over an area called The Neck, and he’s standing next to the Fingers. Coincidence? Maybe…but maybe not.
Cersei is on Arya’s kill list, after all. But it’s a bit more complicated than that. The major theory here is that Arya will kill Cersei using Jaime’s face, which would not only complete the prophecy from Maggy the Frog, but it’d also help Arya get one step closer to finishing her kill list. Arya has an ax to grind with Cersei and the combat skills to defeat Jaime. Using his face to get into Cersei’s inner circle is a genius (albeit ice-cold) way to get everything she wants.
The season eight premiere of Game of Thrones is roughly a month away, and fans can’t stop buzzing. Of course, it doesn’t help that HBO keeps dropping new pics and promos every other day. With each update, viewers get a little more excited—and they post about a billion fan theories on the Internet.
The latest one, based on a brand-new pic of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), is particularly interesting. Earlier this week HBO released a new GoT poster featuring Sansa wearing what looks like a scaly, navy-color outfit and sitting on the Iron Throne. This might seem innocuous at first, but remember the house sigil for the House of Tully—Sansa’s mother’s house—is a fish. The House of Tully’s words are family,duty, and honor, so Sansa’s wearing scales implies she has every intention of keeping up those values when she finally meets Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in season eight. And that’s bad news for both Dany and Jon Snow (Kit Harington). If Sansa plans to honor her family in the season ahead, that basically means Daenerys will be enemy number one (among the living, at least)—with Jon right behind her, given that he bent the knee to Dany and pledged the North’s allegiance to her.
Why is that, you ask? Remember, the Targaryens burned Sansa’s grandfather and Uncle Brandon alive. Plus, Rhaegar Targaryen “kidnapped” Jon’s mother, Lyanna Stark (Ned’s sister and Sansa’s aunt), which is what started the last war in the kingdoms. So, in other words, the Targareyens have done some serious damage to the North—Sansa’s territory.

People in the North haven’t forgotten about what the Targareyens did to them, and Sansa certainly hasn’t. In season seven she reminded Jon of all the damage they caused, and the other Northern Lords cheered her on. Sansa clearly has an ax to grind, and this new photo suggests she’ll have no problem grinding it when she and Daenerys finally meet face-to-face.
And here I was hoping these two would be best friends. We’ll find out everything for sure when Game of Thrones premieres Sunday, April 14, on HBO.

It was a long time coming for fans, who had been waiting to see Littlefinger pay for all the scheming he’s done in Winterfell. I mean, right before Arya slit his throat, Sansa casually reminded him that he betrayed both her and her mother. He was a bad apple, simply put, and fans weren’t sad to see him go.
But what if Littlefinger isn’t actually dead? That’s what a YouTuber who goes by Neo suggests in this recently-unearthed fan theory. Neo posits Littlefinger paid one of the Faceless Men of Braavos to die in his place so he could GTFO. Of course, Game of Thrones fans know the Faceless Men have the shape-shifting abilities to easily pull this off—and Neo has evidence to back his theory.

Obviously, Neo’s theory has its problems. For one, we’ve never seen a Faceless Man use their abilities to die in someone’s place. Also, bringing back such an abhorrent character might anger the fandom. Game of Thrones has pulled more shocking stunts, though. At the very least, this is interesting fodder to keep us occupied until the show returns April 14 on HBO.
