What All the Game of Thrones Women Wore to the Season 8 Premiere Red Carpet


In the game of Thrones, there are only two options: You win or you die. We will know the fate of the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens soon enough—how many alarms have you set for April 14?—but before the eight and final season airs, the cast of Game of Thrones gathered in New York for their last red carpet premiere all together. And they came to win.

Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Emilia Clarke, and more of your favorites from the Seven Kingdoms arrived wearing spectacular looks from designers like Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Valentino. (Though, a few of Westeros’ most familiar faces didn’t make it: Lena Headey, who plays Cersei, was home sick.) The night’s fashion was as fiery as the Mother of Dragons: red lace by Oscar de la Renta, orange tulle by Ermanno Scervino, intergalactic prints by Iris van Herpen. Game of Thrones actors past and present looked good—and quite different from their on-screen personas.

Emilia Clarke's Braid at the Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Nodded to Daenerys


Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons—that’s how most of us came to know actress Emilia Clarke on Game of Thrones. But we should also probably add Master of Red Carpet Beauty to her title.

Seriously, she (and her glam squad) never disappoint whether it’s debuting a new hair color or going all-in on dramatic hair and makeup, like she did for the GoT season eight premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Wednesday night.

Let’s start with the hair, complete with an intricate braid that hairstylist Jenny Cho confirmed was a nod to Clarke’s most famous character. “EMILIA ?. For tonight’s look, I wanted to incorporate a braid as a nod to #DaenerysTargaryen, the queen of dragons #khaleesi,” Cho captioned an image of the look on Instagram. From the loops and varying braid widths to the sprigs of hair springing forth and visible from the front, it’s everything Dany stans could dream of.

The makeup, by Kate Lee, was equally dramatic—with both a bold eye and lip—and fit for a queen.

Lee also shared a shot of the Chanel makeup kit she used to create Clarke’s look. She broke down all the products she used in her Instagram. For the strong ’90s lip, she combined Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres in Rouge Noir ($31), Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care ($50), and the darkest shade from Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eye Shadow ($62) as a lip powder.

On her eyes, Lee relied on Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Mystère et Intensité ($62), Troy Surratt Smoky Eye Baton in Canons de Beauté Burgundy ($35), Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Brun ($32), and Chanel Le Volume Mascara in Ecorces ($32). She also filled in Clarke’s beautifully strong brows with Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Miineral Brow Pencil in Brown ($37) and Chantecaille Full Brow Perfecting Gel ($40).

Emilia Clarke Just Called Out Kit Harrington for Complaining About His *Game of Thrones* Shoots


Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, and the rest of the Game of Thrones cast are currently doing the press rounds for season eight, which premieres April 14 on HBO. Granted, the show doesn’t necessarily need promo at this point—it’s a full-blown phenomenon—but we’ll happily watch the new interviews and dissect them accordingly.

Take Clarke‘s latest one, which happened on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night. The Mother of Dragons hilariously teased her co-star Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) for complaining that his GoT shoots are intense. Colbert co-signed this, saying the last time Harrington was on his show, he complained about the tough GoT shoots in Iceland, where he wore about “40 pounds of fur.”

“He’s got the worst, I know,” Clarke said jokingly. “He does really like to tell everyone that. ‘It’s really heavy, it’s really heavy.'”

The actress continued, “That’s cold weather in Iceland, but there’s short filming hours because there’s only, like, four hours of daylight. Whereas, I’m in a quarry in, you know, Malta, in 100-degree heat—passing out every single season because I have two sets of hair on my head. But yeah, so Kit’s always complaining that he’s got it worst, but he’s definitely got it better. He’s drinking by 2 P.M. because there’s only, like, two hours of daylight.”

Emilia Clarke also revealed she told her mother about how Game of Thrones ends. “I’ve got to be honest, I did, I did, not just my dog, I told my—I wasn’t supposed…I told my mom, but the good thing about telling my mom these things is she’s a vault because she’s just done forgotten it—I told her,” Clarke said. “I was like, ‘I’m not going to tell you twice, you missed your chance!'”

Luckily, we’ll all know who reigns on the Iron Throne soon enough.

This New Footage From *Game of Thrones* Season 8 Teases Some Big Jon and Dany Theories


The season-eight premiere of Game of Thrones is less than two weeks away, and fan theories are reaching a fever pitch—even more so now that HBO has released two new promo videos which contain new, never-before-seen footage.

The videos clips are short, but they contain a ton of material for fans to dissect. In the new footage, we see Tyrion addressing the crowd (“We must fight together, or die”) at Winterfell, where Sansa and Dany can be spotted together at the head of table. Does that mean these two are actually getting along? We see the Unsullied getting into formation for battle, Beric Dondarrion lighting up his sword with the Hound, and a glimpse of Arya and Jon finally being reunited as his voiceover says, “Think back to where we started, now it’s just us.” (Those two haven’t been together since season one!)

But it’s the scenes with Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen that are garnering the most online buzz.

That moment where Jon walks away as Dany stares into the fire—possibly at Dragonstone? Yeah, people on Reddit think that might be the moment the couple learns they are, in fact, aunt and nephew. “Dany looking towards the fire while Jon turns away is totally when she learns the truth,” one commenter wrote. Obviously, we can’t know exactly what’s going on in the scene, but it seems logical Jon learns his true parentage at some point this season and that it will have a drastic effect on his relationship with Dany.

Though some think he may just be leaving her to go to battle—but wouldn’t she be joining him?

There’s also a shot of Varos, Tyrion, and Davos looking up overhead at something, which many assume to be Dany’s dragons. But the newest theory is that Jon may be riding one of them. “They’ve seen dragons before. There’s only one reason why they are looking at dragon like that – someone other than Daenerys is riding,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Game of Thrones season eight officially returns Sunday, April 14 on HBO. We’ll get all our answers then.

Even the *Game of Thrones* Actors Get Their Show Theories Wrong


The final season of Game of Thrones is fast approaching—mark your calendars for April 14. One thing that the series has delivered on since it premiered in 2011 has been the twists and turns in the story arcs of your favorite characters. These can get so extreme, it has inspired plenty of impassioned fan theories over the years. Even for the upcoming eighth season, which hasn’t even premiered, there are already plenty of predictions—about a statue of Jon Snow, about Sansa and Daenerys’ relationship, and more. And although we do know a bit about what to expected from the last six episodes, we’re still pretty much in the dark about who will claim the Iron Throne—and, of course, which of our favorite characters will emerge unscathed. As it turns out, fans aren’t the only ones who remain clueless on the latter front: The actors themselves don’t know, either.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, told The Sunday Times that she and her mom wrote out who they thought would survive by the time the end credits rolled on the finale of the eight season. And apparently, neither of their brackets made it very far.

“I said, ‘Let’s predict the final series. You call who you think is going to be alive and who you think is going to be dead. So will I.’ And we did. And we were both wrong,” she said.

Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry Baratheon, had a similar experience. “At the top of every script there is a cast list for every character involved in that episode. A few of us were tempted to check if we were in the last one,” he told The Sunday Times. Look, Gendry’s the last surviving blood Baratheon. He’s got to have a pretty strong claim. But I don’t even trust the fact that I have the answers in my brain. It feels like you’re walking around with a secret that the whole world wants to know.”

The cast may be well aware of how everything wraps up now. Still, they admit it’s going to be an emotional experience for viewers.

“It was very, very bittersweet,” Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017. “The day where we had the final read-through for the final script, it was really bittersweet. It was hard. At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, ‘End of Game of Thrones.’ As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears. There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.”

Whew. We’ll be getting the tissues ready—but at least we’re not alone in being completely off-base about some of our favorite characters’ fates.

This New Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams Interview Adds Fuel to a Big ‘Game of Thrones’ Theory


When I wake up in the morning, my first thought is, Who’s going to win the Iron Throne on Game of Thrones? OK, that’s an exaggeration, but I am curious, as are the millions of people who watch Game of Thrones. Last week we published a theory positing that it’s Daenerys Targaryen who ends up on the Iron Throne when it’s all said and done. But it’s a new day, and there’s a new theory suggesting that—wait for it—Sansa Stark nabs the throne by the series finale.

The evidence? A new Rolling Stone interview with Sophie Turner (Sansa) and Maisie Williams (Arya). What Turner says and Rolling Stone writes both suggest things turn out well for Sansa in the GoT finale. Read this excerpt, below:

“The things that girl has gone through are just unbelievable and
awful,” [Turner] says. Sansa’s was a slow journey toward mastery of her
environment; she was always smarter than she might have seemed, with
Turner showing us just how acutely she examined her world through
crystalline blue eyes.

This might not seem like much, but pair it with this excerpt in which we learn Turner was so happy with the GoT ending, she hung up the storyboard of the final scene in her house:

She was particularly moved when [showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] presented her with a
storyboard of their favorite Sansa scene, which happened to be her
very last scene of the entire show. Tur­ner already has it hanging at
home; no one’s noticed.

So what in that scene was so exciting it propelled Turner to display it proudly? Winning the Iron Throne, perhaps? At this point, it’s the only explanation that comes to my mind.

Of course, this is all hearsay, but compare it with what Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) said last year about how Game of Thrones ends for her character. “It fucked me up,” she told Vanity Fair. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is.”

It’s clear from this Clarke is not pleased with Daenerys’ trajectory, which means the Iron Throne probably isn’t in her cards. That leaves it wide open for Sansa Stark, and I hope she claims it.

We’ll find out the answer for sure when Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 14, at 8:00 P.M. on HBO.
