Beyoncé and Jay-Z Just Surprised This Teenager With a $100,000 Scholarship


When Jay-Z and Beyoncé aren’t busy being two of the biggest stars on the planet, they’re changing lives. The latest example of their altruism came Wednesday night (September 19) at their most recent stop on the couple’s On the Run II Tour, in Glendale, Arizona. The dynamic duo surprised an Arizona teen, Mikayla Lowry, with a $100,000 college scholarship.

“They said my name and I was like, ‘WHAT?’,” Lowry told ABC about the experience. “It just felt unreal.” The scholarship comes courtesy of an initiative from the Shawn Carter Foundation and the BeyGOOD Initiative, which is responsible for doling out over $1 million in scholarships to youths who are in major need of assistance.

On Sunday, Jay and Bey were in Houston, where they continued making dreams come true. “I didn’t know what to say, and she gave me a huge hug and Jay-Z was just like chilling,” Alezae Uresti, another 17-year-old who received a scholarship (this time in Bey’s hometown) told ABC. “So I gave her a hug, and then after that, me and Beyoncé took a picture and I told Jay-Z, ‘Come on, come on, get in the picture,’ so we all took a picture.”

Each winner of the scholarship is selected by the Boys & Girls Club of America, an organization devoted to enabling “young people most in need to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens,” according to an official official press release. According to the Shawn Carter Foundation website, “The mission of the Shawn Carter Foundation is to help individuals facing socioeconomic hardships further their education at post secondary institutions.”

Beyoncé has a long history of giving scholarships to exceptional teens in need of financial aid. After her game-changing Coachella set in April, she donated $100,000 to four historically black colleges and universities.

As for Mikayla, she’ll get to be the first person in her family to go to school, thanks to the scholarship. “Everyone was just happy for me,” she told ABC. Watch Mikayla have her life changed forever, courtesy of DJ Khaled, in the above video.

And although 2017 definitely gave us some swoon-worthy moments from the biggest names in Hollywood—like Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber rekindling their romance, or Serena Williams tying the knot with Alexis Ohanian—there have also been several hookups that might have slipped under even the most watchful of radars.

Of course, there’s no shortage of romantic gossip when it comes to famous celebrities. Jennifer Lawrence Just Surprised Kris Jenner With the Most Genius Christmas Gift


Jennifer Lawrence, goddess of great banter and constant realness, is apparently pretty magnanimous when it comes to gifting presents. Case in point: the gift she gave apparent BFF Kris Jenner for Christmas this year—and with a classic J.Law twist.

Lawrence has been close to the Kardashian family for awhile now. “The Kardashians are more comforting to me, I think,” the actress said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’ve been watching them for 11 years, so I grew up with them, and I know all of them personally. The Housewives, they go in and out. They’re fighting all the time. There’s something more comforting about the Kardashians.”

Kim Kardashian freaked out—”OMG is this real?!” she wrote on Snapchat—and thus, a high-profile best-friendship was born, complete with one very drunken night in which Lawrence wound up drunk and naked in Kris Jenner’s closet. Since then, J. Law has even appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to guest-interview Kim K—a moment that quickly went viral.

All that said, it must be pretty hard to figure out what to get the family that pretty much literally has everything (and what they don’t have they can create a line of in about two seconds), but J. Law managed to do it. This season, she appeared to gift Kris her No. 1 item on her Christmas wish list: a Porsche.

Jenner, of course, posted about the gift on Instagram. “My BFF #Jenniferlawrence asked me what i wanted for Christmas and of course I said a Porsche, DUH. My girl didn’t disappoint. Thank you Jen I love you!!! #bffsforever #christmassurprise #jlaw #soexcited” she wrote.

But remember how we said there’s a twist?

That’s right: Instead of a full-sized, very operational vehicle, Jenner got what looks like a Saint West-sized mini-Porsche. Still beats those electric jeeps we had as kids though, TBH.

Selena Gomez Just Surprised Her Bride-to-Be Cousin With Her 'Dream' Wedding Dress


First Taylor Swift reportedly bought an entire house for a homeless, pregnant fan; nowSelena Gomez has reportedly made someone else’s end-of-2017 wishes come true—this time in the form of a wedding dress.

Gomez, who is planning to serve as maid-of-honor for her cousin Priscilla DeLeon’s wedding, flew down to Texas for the big bridal shower this week. Part of the trip, apparently, included a dress fitting—with a serious twist, according to the bride-to-be’s Instagram.

“When your maid of honor makes your dream dress a reality and surprises you with it!” DeLeon captioned a video she posted. In the video, she and Gomez are hugging, and it looks like she’s posing with a sign that says “I said yes to the dress” in gold letters.

It looks like the wedding dress moment was followed up with Mexican food and margaritas with friends, including quite a lot of posing with fans, because Gomez is just that kind of person.

Speculating about whether there’s wedding bells in Gomez’s future—because, you know, weddings and Justin Bieber—is as annoying as a relative asking over the holidays why you still haven’t settled down yet, so we’ll skip all that and proceed right to the best part: that this world-famous pop icon was happy to make the time to fly to another state and make sure that her cousin got the dress of her dreams. But let’s see the dream dress! Now that we’re deeply invested in this saga, we want pictures.

Taylor Swift Debuts a New Surprised Face After Winning Song of the Year at the CMAs


One of the hallmarks of “Old” Taylor Swift is her surprised face. You know what I’m talking about: It’s the wide-eyed, open-mouthed expression Swift made every time she scooped up an award between 2007 and 2014. The surprised face was endearing at first—because it seemed genuine—but as the years went on, some people grew skeptical of it. Swift even mocked the face in her “Look What You Made Me Do” video—and perfectly captured people’s feelings about it when she had one of her clones say, “You can’t possibly be that surprised all the time.”

Well, she can be, but the face is changing. Exhibit A: Last night’s Country Music Awards, when Swift, unsurprisingly, won Song of the Year for “Better Man” (which she wrote for the band Little Big Town). Swift wasn’t at the actual ceremony because she has Saturday Night Live rehearsals, but a friend filmed her reaction to finding out she won the big award. And her surprised face was—well, just have a look at it yourself:

It’s different, right? Instead of widening her eyes and placing her hands over her mouth, New Taylor stares at her friend intently and cocks her head. It’s the expression you made in math class when you studied all night but recognized nothing on the exam. Or the face you made when your best friend told you she’s getting back together with her scrub ex-boyfriend. It’s quite literally the face Aubrey Plaza makes in this (haunting) Parks and Recreation GIF.

In other words, it’s intense—like Swift gave her surprised face the “Bad Blood” treatment or something. But isn’t that the Reputation era in a nutshell? Even the surprised face gets a makeover.

Old Taylor might really be dead, after all…because New Surprised Face Taylor killed her. (Kidding.)

Liam Hemsworth Adorably Surprised Miley Cyrus on 'SNL' Last Night


Miley Cyrus and Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth are hands-down one of the more elusive and private couples in Hollywood right now. Which, you know, good for them—they always keep us guessing (namely about the rings they’ve been caught wearing…). But on November 4, he surprised her on Saturday Night Live (Miley was the musical guest), and the result says one thing: that the two are crazy about each other. And yes, it’s adorable.

For a spoof of The Price Is Right, Miley plays an audience member named Amanda partnered up with another Hemsworth, Liam’s brother and Thor star Chris—played in this skit by SNL cast member Alex Moffat. They’re joined on the gameshow by other celebrities, like Tilda Swinton (played by Kate McKinnon), Lil Wayne (played by Chris Redd), and Bernie Sanders (played by host Larry David).

After fake-Chris’ intro, “Amanda” turns to him and cheekily asks, “You’re cute; do you have a brother?”

The gang sets out to guess the price of a washing machine, but the Aussie native gets The Price Is Right and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire confused, telling the host, “I’d like to phone a friend, mate.”

Just like that, Liam (actual Liam!) appears on screen—much to Miley’s IRL surprise. Although Miley-as-Amanda doesn’t actually say anything (way to keep in character!) she breaks out into a huge glowing smile as she turns around and looks up at him.

The feeling is mutual, too: Saturday Night Live‘s Instagram account shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Liam watching Miley backstage in his costume. It’s adorable.

Honestly cannot handle these two. We’d 100-percent vote for them as SNL co-hosts—sooner rather than later, please.
