Meryl Streep and Billy Porter Hug at 2020 Golden Globes


The Golden Globes hadn’t even gotten underway yet, but we already have one of the standout moments of the night involving two of our favorites: Meryl Streep and Billy Porter.

In footage captured as the celebrities got settled in the ballroom, a camera captured a perfect moment between the two stars where they greeted each other, hugged, and kept on hugging. Now all I can imagine is a meeting between Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada) and Pray Tell (Pose). Just imagine the conversations they could have about cerulean blue, fashion history, and what he’s wearing to the next ball. The category is…my dreams!

Given how much the internet loves both a Streep and a Porter meme—you know you’ve used that gif of her and J. Lo clapping a million times—people were very excited, to say the least. “Meryl hugging Billy Porter, I’m not okay,” one person tweeted. “MERYL TOUCHING BILLY’S COAT!!!! i’m dying, she’s so cute ?????,” another wrote. And we think this person definitely has the right idea: “This is everything. Please can Meryl and Billy work together? #GoldenGlobes.”

At one point, Porter appears to say to Streep, “You didn’t see the train, boo.” And, well, that was just perfection.

Then, they threw Ana de Armas from Knives Out and Taron Egerton into the mix.

This is why the Golden Globes are always the most fun awards show of the bunch. You’ve got film legends like Meryl Streep chatting with newly crowned TV legends like Billy Porter—and that’s before the stars even sat down and started drinking all that champagne at the table. We can’t wait for the next commercial break to see what other celebrity worlds collide as famous people scramble back to their tables.

Hillary Clinton Wants to Give Meghan Markle a Hug


Meghan Markle is in the middle of a legal battle with the British tabloids and recently admitted how difficult the negative media attention directed at her since she married Prince Harry has been. But over here in the U.S., she’s racking up high-profile supporters, like Beyoncé, Serena Williams, and Ellen DeGeneres. Former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also a big fan.

“Oh my God, I want to hug her!” Clinton, no stranger to being derided in the press, said in a recent interview with BBC Radio 5. “I feel as a mother I just want to put my arms around her. I want to hug her. I want to tell her to hang in there and don’t let those bad guys get you down. Keep going, do what you think is right.” She even offered some techniques for dealing with the public pressure, like humor and deflection—but added “it is tough what she’s going through and she deserves a lot better.”

“I have a great deal of feeling toward and about her [Meghan] because it’s one thing to be told what it will be like when you step onto the biggest stage with the brightest spotlight, joining the royal family…and yet it still is really hard to imagine,” Clinton continued. “It takes some getting used to, to have your every move scrutinized and analyzed, and frankly things made up about.nAnd I really wish her and her husband the very best because they are struggling to have a life of meaning and integrity on their own terms—and that’s hard enough if you’re just walking around in today’s world, but if you’re on that big a platform, it’s really difficult.”

Clinton also said that she thinks race and gender do play a part in the coverage of Markle. “I don’t think there’s any doubt of it,” she said. “I think even if you go back and look at social media from the time the engagement was announced, race was clearly an element in it. And to think that some of your, what we could call mainstream media, actually allowed that to be printed in their pages, or amplified, was heartbreaking and wrong.”

“She is an amazing young woman. She has an incredible life story. She has stood up for herself. She’s made her own way in the world. And then she falls in love and he falls in love with her, and everybody should be celebrating that because it is a true love story,” Clinton said. A young Meghan Markle, of course, famously wrote the then-First Lady a letter as part of her campaign to get a sexist dishwashing soap ad changed when she was just 11. (Spoiler: It worked.)

Here’s hoping these two amazing women can get together to work on a charitable project together soon—or at least meet up for a glass of wine.

17 Fleece Jackets Under $50 That Basically Feel Like a Warm Hug


In September, I turned 25 years old. To celebrate my birthday, my Aunt Terri sent me a lovely card that had a crisp $50 bill inside—“spend it on something nice,” she wrote. At first, I had sights set on the extreme: Why not I ~treat myself~ and put the cash toward a fancy massage, or maybe that Insta-famous bag everyone is posting about? But my sensible, just-entered-my-mid-20s side kicked in: I placed it in my wallet, and moved on. The moment will present itself, I thought.

A week later, it did: I was picking up an online order at a Uniqlo store (it’s free, people!), when I decided to meander around the racks of fall/winter clothes. I tried on a puffer coat, a cashmere hat… Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it—a a tailored fleece jacket that I absolutely needed to have. (When you know, you know.) It was so cozy, but also neutral, so I could see myself wearing it with pretty much everything I own. My instinctual reaction was confirmed when I looked at the price tag: $39.90.

Without even thinking, I walked to the counter, handed over Aunt Terri’s $50 bill, and floated out of Uniqlo with $10 to spare. And I’ve been wearing the fleece jacket nonstop ever since, even when it’s not actually cold enough for fleece. I’ve had multiple strangers—and my dental hygienist—approach to ask about it, and I proudly respond with how much I paid for it. Now, I’ve started hunting for more under-$50 fleece to add to my closet, and have been pleasantly surprised with my findings.
