Rowan Blanchard Just Shared the Best Advice For Dealing With Body Image Insecurities

There’s a whole range of messaging we receive these days about our bodies, from the ever-present advertisements featuring Photoshopped “ideals” of what we’re “supposed” to look like, to the many, many bloggers and companies who, thankfully, champion body acceptance and positivity. But constantly blocking out insidious images and messages acting to undermine our confidence can be exhausting. Actress Rowan Blanchard shared the best advice with Coveteur recently about her ongoing journey with mental health and body image. Her words are wise and beyond necessary: She emphasizes that it’s not about being perfect or feeling perfect but just checking in with yourself and staying grounded in a world gone body-image crazy.

“I feel like a lot of how we think about health is with goals, whether that’s to lose weight, or to look…what’s marketed as ‘feminine’ or what’s marketed as ‘fit’. I try to think of it as what’s being healthy and what’s not being healthy,” she said, adding that although she’s aware of making healthy food choices, “I’m never over-conscious about it because I’m pretty young.”

In addition to smart guidelines like turning her phone off before bed, Blanchard’s advice to young women—though any age could benefit from it!—is pretty honest: “I feel that pressure to look a certain way, so I don’t feel totally exempt from this or like I have this figured out…I grew up with a lot of magazines that were marketed towards teens that had headlines about how you can lose weight, or how you can look ‘fit,’ or how you can get a ‘bikini body,’” she said. “Those types of headlines inherently breed that sort of self-loathing young women already have. Specific advice I give myself whenever I feel very insecure, or insecure about my body, or how I look in a dress—all of these things—I try to tell myself that a lot of it is in my head. This is a hard one, because I’m still a teenager who’s insecure every day.”

She also adds that if you find yourself struggling with a hangup, you’re not alone. As Blanchard said, “No matter how I’m feeling, there is another person in the world that feels exactly how I feel in the moment. I think we often forget that we’re a part of such a grander thing.”

Um, preach, Rowan Blanchard. And I’m not even a teenager.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Just Shared Their Official Engagement Photos

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry know how to take a good photograph together. Just look at how electric they looked at the Invictus Games back in September, or at the photo call they had in November after announcing their engagement. They’re two of the most photogenic people on the planet—and they’re in love, which makes for some pretty dazzling visuals.

So it’s only fitting the future Duke and Duchess mark their engagement with an official photo shoot. And because the Kensington Palace Twitter handle is A-plus, we all get to see some of the shots. “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen to release official photographs to mark their engagement,” the Palace tweeted early Thursday morning (December 21) before sharing these two gorgeous snaps:

Kensington Palace revealed the photos were taken by Alexi Lubomirski at Frogmore House, which is in Windsor, We’ll give you a few seconds to swoon over these pictures—because that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will officially tie the knot on May 19, 2018 in at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, but details other than that are sparse. “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry,” Markle’s parents told Kensington Palace about her daughter’s engagement. “Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy and passion for us parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan,” commented Prince William and Kate Middleton to the palace, as well. “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton Just Shared Their Christmas Card Photo

Even the most cynical people can’t help but melt over the Royal Family’s Christmas card photo. Every year, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children—Prince George and Princess Charlotte—release a holiday portrait, and it seems like each one is cuter than the last. Remember the one from 2015, where the family posed in a field and Prince George had the most adorable, goofy grin? Prince William didn’t even look at the camera—he was too distracted by his son’s cuteness. Or how about this Cambridge Christmas/thank-you card, which wasn’t anything official but nonetheless utterly charming? This family certainly knows how to take a festive photo, that’s for sure.

And this year’s is no exception. The Kensington Palace Twitter account released the photo that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be using for their cards this year, and it’s literally too adorable and perfect for words. But don’t take our word for it: Check it out for yourself, below:

There are a lot of wonderful things happening in this pic. For one, Prince William’s delightfully cheesy smile. Also, look how precious Prince George looks holding his father’s hand! And Princess Charlotte’s silly grin? I’m done. This photo has the power to part clouds, TBH.

This photo isn’t the only news Kensington Palace announced this morning, though. We received an update about Princess Charlotte’s pre-school plans, too. “Their Royal Highnesses have also announced this morning that Princess Charlotte will attend the Willcocks Nursery School in London from January 2018,” the Palace tweeted.

“We are delighted that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen the Willcocks Nursery School for Princess Charlotte. We look forward to welcoming Charlotte to our nursery in January,” Willcocks Nursery School said in a statement via Kensington Palace.

Before school’s in session, though, Prince Charlotte and Prince George have a season of holiday fun ahead. And if this photo’s any indication, the Royal Family is about to achieve maximum levels of, “Awww!” next week. We can’t wait.

Gigi Hadid Shared Some Rare Pics of Her and BFF Taylor Swift in Honor of Tay's Birthday

Taylor Swift turned 28 on December 13, and it was not only a day for the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer to reflect on her past year—she said it was a great one for her—but it also was the perfect opportunity for her friends to post some rarely seen, adorable pictures and share their love for the squad originator.

Selena Gomez posted an incredibly heartfelt note for her BFF; Lily Aldridge shared her love of Tay and her cat Meredith; and Karlie Kloss squashed any rumors that she and the pop star are anything less than friends with her own greetings for the star. And although Gigi Hadid was noticeably silent on T.Swift’s big day, she made up for it on Friday by posting a couple of photos of the two of them that we’ve never seen before.

The model posted a belated Instagram to wish Swift a happy birthday with photos of the pair cuddling up and looking extra cozy, saying, “a belated wish to an incredible friend, a brilliant mind, a huge heart : HAPPIEST BIRTH[week] my T @taylorswift , you know I love you beyond. You make me so proud ! ❤️✨”

These two are just too cute—and they’re known for doing other best-friend things together, like filming their own version of James Corden’s The Late Late Show’s “Carpool Karaoke” to Swift’s duet with Hadid’s boyfriend Zayn Malik, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” Or, you know, kicking ass in the “Bad Blood” music video.

It’s great to see so many women coming together to celebrate such a big day for their friend—and we’re so glad to know that these adorable best-friend selfies exist.

Selena Gomez Shared the Sweetest Birthday Message for Taylor Swift

Today is a very special day for Taylor Swift fans. As any good member of her squad will tell you, December 13 marks the singer’s 28th birthday (hence her deep and never-ending love of the number 13).

While fans of the singer were busy tweeting up a storm wishing the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer a happy birthday, her famous friends were equally busy sharing selfies with Taylor on Instagram. First, model Karlie Kloss shared a throwback image of the with the simple message, “Happy happy birthday @taylorswift!”

Next, fellow model Lily Aldridge shared her own Taylor Swift picture on Instagram (and this one also featured Taylor’s cat, Meredith). She wrote in the caption, “We love you So So So So So Soooo MUCH!!! Happy Birthday @taylorswift!!!!!”

Yes, both of these shoutouts are nice—and Taylor surely appreciated them—but Selena Gomez wrote a heartfelt message to commemorate Taylor that has us near tears. “I’m glad you were born. You write all the thoughts some aren’t able to articulate. (ME!) Thank you for giving a voice to this world that is authentic and inspiring,” Selena wrote in an Instagram post alongside a brief, soundless video of the two giggling up a storm. “I wish some knew how big your heart actually is… it’s fierce, bold, and freaking wild with light. I’m glad you protect that. Love you @taylorswift.”

See it in full, below:

The two first met and became friends way back in 2008, when Taylor was dating Joe Jonas and Selena was dating his brother Nick. And according to Selena, their friendship was the best thing to come out of either relationship.

“We actually dated the Jonas brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez said in an interview with KISS FM in early December. “It was amazing because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked. It was the best thing we got out of those relationships.”

As for one day making everyone’s dreams come true and doing a duet with her BFF, Gomez said, “anytime, any place.” She added, “She has been a fighter, a warrior, and a friend through all of this.”

Ashley Judd Just Shared Her Go-To Way to Respond to Sexual Harassment

Ashley Judd—like many women—is no stranger to instances of sexual harassment. The actress was one of those on record in the bombshell New York Times investigation that revealed decades of alleged sexual harassment and assault by former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. This week, she opened up on Good Morning America about the encounter she had with him early in her career, saying that “there has to be a real profound understanding on the part of the sexual predator that what he was doing was wrong and criminal.” She also accepted the “Speaking Truth to Power” award at the Women’s Media Awards on Thursday.

Now, in a Teen Vogue interview published Saturday, Judd shared how she responds to sexual harassment—particularly the sort encountered on the street. Yelling, “Stop! That is inappropriate and unwelcome,” Judd “holds her hands up like catcher’s mitts, telling her potential harasser to stop what they’re doing and, at the same time, making her hands like a shield between her and the hurtful comments.”

Judd adds that expecting to be harassed isn’t something we should have to do, but “disrupting the structures” that allow it to occur is really important. So practicing what to do when it happens—getting comfortable with making the gestures and speaking loudly, in her case—is important for her to be able to respond in a way that she’s comfortable with and feels empowering.

For those who don’t feel like they can respond, Judd says, just being able to extricate themselves from the situation—in whatever way is safe—is important.

“Feeling safe is everything,” she told Teen Vogue. “That’s essentially what is taken from us when we experience sexual harassment and microaggressions.”

She added that two things that can’t be taken away are your power and instinct. “You are ineffably powerful,” she told Teen Vogue. “If it feels wrong, it is wrong.” And it’s more than OK to make that known.
