These Taylor Swift Fan Theories Will Convince You She’s Dropping New Music Soon

Taylor Swift fans love a good theory—especially when it comes to her music. Before she released her sixth studio album, Reputation, in November 2017, Swifties were running rampant with theories about what her next era would be. At one point they thought the new album was going to be about space—like, the actual stars and planets. And the evidence was there! The FBI honestly needs to recruit new agents from the Taylor Swift fan base, because their sleuthing skills are unparalleled.

And now they’re at it again. Roughly 14 months after Reputation, the Swifties are convinced Taylor’s next era—which we’ll call TS7—is upon us. As always, they have the receipts to back it up. Let’s go through (1) all the reasons why Swifties think new music is coming soon, and (2) what that new music could be.

Swift has allegedly talked about releasing new music this year.__ Perez Hilton claims Swift told him she plans to release new music before her 30th birthday, which is in December 2019. Also, keep in mind that at last year’s American Music Awards, Swift said this: “I always look at albums as chapters in my life. And I’m so—to the fans, I’m so happy that you like this one. I’m so happy that this means that you like this one. But I have to be really honest with you about something: I’m even more excited about the next chapter.” This at least hints Swift is working on new material.

The Scrabble saga of October 2018. A few months back, Swift posted a photo of herself playing Scrabble with her mom. The letters she had on display were B, I, O, I, E, letters whose point values, ironically, add up to seven. Swift fans were quick to point this out and suggest it was a nod to TS7.

Seven palm trees means…TS7? On Sunday (February 24), Swift posted a photo of palm trees and captioned it with seven corresponding emojis. This is yet another reference to that number and further fuels the idea new music is coming.

But this could also mean a countdown…starting at seven. The proof for this lies in Swift’s next two Instagrams. On Monday she posted a photo of herself sitting on the sixth (6) stair of a spiral staircase.

She then uploaded this photo, with five (5) holes in a fence and her face in the middle:

Obviously, the idea is once Swift reaches one (1), there will be a special announcement—possibly about new music.

That fence pic and the Scrabble photo have a strong connection. She’s wearing the same flowered shirt in each—and the flower featured is the woodland forget-me-not, Myosotis sylvatica, which blooms in April.

The stamps in Swift’s fan calendar. As BuzzFeed points out, specific dates are “stamped” on Swift’s 2019 fan calendar: April 13, May 13, July 13, August 13, and December 13. There’s also a flower marked on March 2, which is when the aforementioned “countdown” would end. The consensus? Swift is making a big announcement on March 2, and April 13 could be the first major date connected to it. BuzzFeed also says Swift is rumored to be Elle magazine’s April cover star. That issue, presumably dropping in early March, might tee up whatever Swift has planned for the spring.

YouTube is also doing something fishy. Swift has 245 videos uploaded to the site, but only 243 are visible, according to BuzzFeed. This could mean she has two clips prepared to drop after this countdown. Orrr it could just be two old clips she doesn’t want to release. The first theory is more exciting.

Well, that depends on which fan you ask. Palm trees, though, seem to hold significance. A Reputation promo photo of Swift features her wearing a jacket with seven palm trees. The trees also show up in the “End Game” and “Delicate” videos.

Also, consider the placement of the palm trees in Swift’s Instagram pic. There are four on the left, two on the right, and one in the middle. One fan posits the first four represent Swift’s country albums, while the last two are her pop ones. TS7 lands right in the middle, which leads some to think it will be a country-pop fusion or something totally new.

The word eternal also keeps popping up. It was stitched on the dress she wore to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. Palm trees, if you’re curious, symbolize “triumph, peace, and eternal life,” according to one fan’s Tumblr post. It all comes full circle.

10 TV, Music, and Movie Moments You Need to Know About for the Week of February 24, 2019

This week’s slate of new TV shows, movies, and music is quite exciting. We kick things off with the Oscars, which should be interesting for several reasons, including (1) the lack of host, (2) the fact there’s no clear front-runner, and (3) that Lady Gaga is gracing us with her presence. Yes, my obsession with A Star Is Born has reached a fever pitch. I’m far from the shallow!

After the Oscars, though, we roll into this week with the return of The Voice, World of Dance, and a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. See? I told you this week is stacked.

Here are all the TV shows, movies, and music moments to put on your radar for the days ahead:

The Oscars: For the first time in 30 years, the Oscars won’t have a host. But that’s okay, because Lady Gaga will save us all with a live performance of “Shallow.” 8 P.M. ET on ABC

Kim Petras Live: The up-and-coming transgender pop star embarked on her first round of solo shows this past weekend. She continues in Los Angeles tonight before doing a few more select dates overseas. Buy tickets here

The Voice: John Legend joins an already-impressive roster of judges, including Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine. These blind auditions are going to make me cry, aren’t they? 8 P.M. ET on NBC

World of Dance: Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough are back for another season of spellbinding choreography. It’s honestly the perfect Tuesday night entertainment. 9 P.M. ET on NBC

Whiskey Cavalier: Scott Foley is returning to your television screens as Will Chase, an FBI agent who’s assigned to work with a new partner following a personal breakup. Drama and romance ensue, obviously. Let’s just hope Will Chase isn’t as problematic as Jake Ballard from Scandal. 10 P.M. ET on ABC

Better Things: Pamela Adlon is the brains behind (and the face of) this bitingly real comedy about motherhood, which kicks off its third season tonight. 10 P.M. ET on FX

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 11 is here, and I already have my favorite queens picked out. (I’m looking at you, Silky Nutmeg Ganache.) 9 P.M. ET on VH1

[embedded content]

Into The Dark: Treehouse: A celebrity chef retreats to his family’s vacation house after a wave of bad press. What’s waiting for him, though, is far scarier than a nasty review. Streaming on Hulu

The Widow: The British series, starring Kate Beckinsale, is finally available on American streaming. It centers on a woman (Beckinsale) who believes her husband is dead…until she sees him alive and well on the evening news. Streaming on Amazon Prime

The Killer Downstairs: This deliciously campy drama focuses on a woman who rents her basement suite to an unassuming man, but things get ugly when he begins developing an unhealthy, deadly obsession. 8 P.M. ET on Lifetime

Taylor Swift Fans Are Convinced Her New Music Will Be About Mermaids

There’s nothing Taylor Swift seems to love more than dropping hints to fans about her music. She’s been known to hide cryptic messages and clues about her work just about everywhere in the time between album releases: Her clothes, her music video sets, even games of Scrabble. And according to some fans on Twitter, Swift’s not giving up that habit in 2019.

Just days after her Reputation stadium tour landed on Netflix, fans sounded the Easter egg alarm on Twitter. Apparently, Taylor Swift been using a handful of outfits during her Reputation promo to hint at the theme of her unconfirmed seventh album, with a surprising source of inspiration: mermaids.

Let’s take a look at the evidence.

Earlier this week Swift gathered her squad for a New Year’s Eve party where guests were asked to dress up as their childhood heroes. The singer dressed up as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, complete with a red wig and green tail. By itself, the look appears to be just an elaborate homage to the character—but fans say it’s more than that.

On Twitter, fans noted that mermaids have appeared in Swift’s wardrobe in suspicious places: As a patch on a jacket she wears in the official Reputation magazine, and on a T-shirt she wears in behind-the-scenes footage from the Reputation Netflix special. Take a look:

Fans also pointed out that The Little Mermaid has a special Swift-ian connection to the singer: The Little Mermaid was released the year of her birth, 1989. (Which, as fans know, was also the name of her fifth album.) Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

OK, so Swift has a long history with The Little Mermaid. But could she be singing about it on her album? Read into what mermaids symbolize and the theory gets even more convincing. Mermaids, according to one user, represent “freedom” and “independence.” Another added that Ariel transforms from a mermaid to a human in The Little Mermaid—so the seventh album could be about transformation. Fans are besides themselves about the possibility, natch.

Swift has been known to wear outfits with symbols alluding to her music. Her Reputation era has been marked by snake imagery on her costumes and in her music videos, referencing her feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. She even released a line of snake rings for fans to get in on the look.

She’s also hinted that new music—maybe or maybe not including mermaids—is on the way. On stage to accept the award for Best Pop/Rock Album at the American Music Awards in October, she suggested that a new chapter is in the works. “I always look at albums as chapters in my life,” she said. “And I’m so—to the fans, I’m so happy that you like this one. I’m so happy that this means that you like this one. But I have to be really honest with you about something: I’m even more excited about the next chapter.”

Then, in November she suggested on Instagram that she had signed a new record deal with Universal Music Group and Republic Records, posting a photo with UMG chairman/CEO Sir Lucian Grainge and Republic Records cofounder and CEO Monte Lipman. “My new home,” she captioned the picture.

Still, all the theories are just that—theories—until we receive confirmation from the singer. After all, fans have stood by theories that didn’t shake out before: Remember when we thought Reputation would be a time-themed album?

For all we know, Swift is just reconnecting with her childhood hero for the moment. We’ll have to wait until the seventh album officially appears to see if she’s been looking “Under the Sea” for inspiration.

Alex Rodriguez Loves Jennifer Lopez So Much, He Works Out to Her Music

Alex Rodriguez proved himself the ultimate Instagram boyfriend in 2018, taking photos of Jennifer Lopez seemingly every chance he got. Now, he’s bringing that energy into 2019, first by working out to Lopez’s music.

The baseball vet posted a video to Instagram on Wednesday (January 2) of himself and Lopez sweating it out at their local gym. Just watching this clip will elevate your heartbeat, so it’s a good thing Lopez’s song “Limitless” is playing in the background. It’ll keep you motivated to the very end—just like (I’m assuming) it did for Lopez and Rodriguez’s actual workout.

“The grind never stops,” Rodriguez captioned the video. “What are you going to make of 2019?” I’m not sure what I’ll make of 2019 yet, but I know I will do it set to Jennifer Lopez’s severely under-appreciated discography.

Check out Rodriguez’s video for yourself, below:

So what other J.Lo-inspired workouts will A-Rod do this year? Burpees set to “Love Don’t Cost a Thing?” Weight training while blasting “Waiting for Tonight” (or “Weighting for Tonight”)? A half marathon listening to nothing but “Dance Again” on a loop? The possibilities are, well, limitless.

“Jennifer has given so much to me and my kids over the last two years,” Rodriguez told People magazine in December about his relationship with Lopez. “Her best quality is undoubtedly her generosity. I see it every day and my kids see it as well.”

Lopez returned the favor, telling People about Rodriguez, “Everything feels healthy and different. We bring something to each other’s lives that is profound, good and healthy.”

Now go buy “Limitless” on iTunes. It’s a bop!

The Best Music Moments of 2018

Who killed it in music this year? Well, there are several names that come to mind. First and foremost, there’s Beyoncé, whose Coachella set was a cultural tour-de-force. There was also Taylor Swift, who embarked on her highly-anticipated Reputation Stadium Tour, and didn’t disappoint. It was so good, in fact, it’s becoming a Netflix special.) Along the way we also received some A+ albums (welcome back, Robyn), songs (“Thank U, Next,” anyone?), and music videos (again…”Thank U, Next”). So much happened on the charts this year that we really are far from the shallow now. Yes, that pun was completely intended.

Below, Glamour‘s music highlights for 2018.

Women Are Praising Cardi B for Breastfeeding in Her New Music Video

Some people may be starting to slow down as the holidays approach, but not Cardi B. The rapper has certainly had an eventful 2018, and it looks like next year will be just as big. This year along we saw her career continue to soar, complete with five Grammy nominations. She gave birth to an adorable baby, Kulture. But she also split from her husband of one year, Offset, and had that very public feud with Nicki Minaj.

But in true Cardi form, she’s sending 2018 off with a bang today, December 21, by releasing the highly-anticipated video for her hit single, “Money”. While the video has a lot going on—including nudity and dancing on poles—it does show one major nod to her current life as a new mom: breastfeeding. In multiple shots throughout the video, Cardi can be seen breastfeeding while looking as glamorous as ever.

Take a look:

And you can see more in the full video, below:

This is yet another fantastic step toward normalizing the (yes, very normal) practice of breastfeeding. (In similar news, actress Rachel McAdams wore breast pumps in a magazine cover shoot earlier this week.) It’s exciting to see Cardi put a positive message about breastfeeding out into the world, especially in the video for a song that references her career and daughter. Working mom or not, breastfeeding is a natural part of many mothers’ lives.

As with all things Cardi B, social media lit up with praise upon the video’s release. “Cardi B breastfeeding in her music video is so good for the culture (and Kulture),” one user wrote. “Deftly blending high fashion, sex work, and — yes — breastfeeding, Cardi B’s video for “Money” is the logical culmination of three decades of feminism in hip-hop,” wrote another. “Tbh the fact that @iamcardib shows that she can breastfeed and be a bad ass really just set the tone to normalize breastfeeding,” said a user. See more opinions here:

Well done, Cardi—we can’t wait to see what you bring us all in 2019.
